I have to disagree slightly with Kveta I have nothing but absolute praise for Mamas and Papas. The pram I had with DS1 was amazing and I had nothing but brilliant service from them.

On the other hand I would never ever by anything big from Mothercare. I have had loads of problems with them and I know loads and loads of people that have had problem after problem. Their customer service is the worst I have ever come accross. I will buy clothes and bedding from them but never a pram or car seat or furniture. They have a really bad reputation on here too.

We are all ill with coughs here. I feel awful, got hardly any sleep as I couldn't stop coughing.

Hope you are all well.

Kveta · 13/02/2012 09:51

Kazyr maybe it's a geographical thing? think our 'local' M+Ps is Chelmsford, and they have a bad customer services reputation - it could be just that one shop! We haven't used them after hearing horror stories from friends, so can't say I have any personal experience!

I have not been massively impressed with mothercare, but have not had any issues as such (except when our Gro-Egg broke and Mothercare said it was the GroEgg company that should be held responsible - so we contacted them, and got a new GroEgg 2 days later, so not a big deal for us). We got our Graco and our highchair from them, and although the pushchair was crap, it wasn't their fault (just not a great pushchair design) the highchair was fine. Wish we'd got the antilop from IKEA though, as it was half the price and really wipe clean!! :o

hope your coughs get better soon, lots of lemon and honey (and whisky :o) to make you feel better! Brew

Erm, yeah, FormBy I believe you have to pay to advertise on Mn, sorry.

Dalrymps · 13/02/2012 10:10

Morning ladiesSmile

kayzr Hope your cough's are better soon. I'm choked with the cold and now ds2 has it, great start to half term!

I bought a ziko from mamas and papas when ds1 was born and wasn't too impressed. It was flimsy and we had a problem with the wheel on it almost immediately. I would consider buying from there again though as it was just the one bad experience.

Not bought a buggy from mother care.. After the ziko we bought a Quinny online and have loved it ever since.

Florin · 13/02/2012 10:25

I have heard not to good things about mothercare plus a bit worried they are going to go bust incase we do have problems with anything. Think we will get our pushchair from John Lewis which hopefully shouldn't be too bad.
Got my scan this morning feeling a mix of nerves and excitement. Just hoping our baby boy is growing healthily.

Dalrymps · 13/02/2012 10:29

Florin - hope the scan goes ok, I'm sure it'll be just fineSmile

ffnorm · 13/02/2012 10:41

Hi all - as usual it will teach me to not log in for a few day, spent last hour catching up on all the chat and scan news Smile

Welcome dontbugme and congrats to all those who've had their scans. Good luck today Florin

Went back for the completion scan on thurs to see if they could measure her profile and the cheeky monkey had both hands over her face - had to laugh and after much banging on my belly by the sonographer she moved her hands and all is good...

Was having a conversation at work yesterday about how some people are happy to make uninvited commentary about the sex of your baby (like my MIL who said it better be a girl) It's just rude and annoying Angry

I too haven't bought anything, don't know what's wrong with me but I'm panicking about lack of space...

Hope everyone has a good week!

Kayzr · 13/02/2012 10:52

Florin Have a good scan.

Welcome Dontbugme

I want lemsip and ibruprofen and sleep Sad

Kayzr · 13/02/2012 10:54

Oh and I haven't bought anything other than a few clothes. I know everything I want to buy but we are waiting a bit yet as we don't have a huge house and worried about storage.

Warlin · 13/02/2012 11:13

Hi all

Good luck florin. I'm sure all will be fine and enjoying seeing you LO again. We have the heart scan next wed and I cannot wait to see him again. I'm def getting more movement now so hoping all is still ok.

I'm joining the coughs and colds bus. I have been feeling miserable since last Tue. Have a cought that's in my chest and can't sleep as my throat is agony at night. Fed up with feeling so run down. Think I need to start eating some more meat (as a struggling to convert veggie it takes a lot of effort...!)

Interested to hear all the M&Ps and Mothercre debate. Mothercare are doing a 10% day on the 24th feb so I took the price they had offered me for that and took it to a local retailer on Sat where we ordered our bugaboo pram :) saved £100 overall so well chuffed and wanted to support the local retailer as their aftercare is good.

My MIL was saying that she heard that M&P furniture was supposed to be poor quality.....I was planning on getting our cot etc there. Any advice? Where has everyone else bought cots, moses baskets etc?

ffnorm how rude of your MIL Angry. it will be fantastic to get either sex as long as it's healthy..so annoying when people speak out of turn.

Time is dragging in I think...not sure I can cope with working full time for much longer when I feel so rubbish...roll on May :)

Hi to everyone else x

10000fireflies · 13/02/2012 11:22

Amethyst here's that bra Same bra in John Lewis is £29.70, still a bit pricey at £26 from this retailer (haven't tried them btw), but really was lovely. Think you can get via Amazon too. I see I was duped though. Fabric v v v soft and lovely, but no real silk there.

Good to know to avoid MotherCare ownbrand. DH was tempted by them. We have found a fall back, buy in emergency, super-cheap, light-weight pushchair suitable for newborns which we can get in June if all else fails until the summer sales start.

Florin - good luck with scan
Welcome dontbugme
FFnorm good to hear your scan was all ok

Hope everyone with cold/bugs is feeling better soon.

Dalrymps · 13/02/2012 11:43

Warlin the nicest and cheapest cot we found was from John Lewis. It is still going strong for ds2 nowSmile I have also heard that M&P furniture is poor quality although haven't bought any myself so couldn't say for sure..

Miniangel · 13/02/2012 12:03

Florin Good luck for your scan.
Welcome dontbugme
FFnorm I agree with the annoying gender commentary. People should keep their opinions to themselves.
Warlin I agree with Dalry the john lewis cribs and cots are really nice. We are getting the glider crib as it's very handy and the space in our bedroom is limited . Which bugaboo did you get?

Do the list of things that we have to reserach get any shorter? My friend recently said I should reserach nurseries before the baby is born as all the good have a huge waiting list. Another one suggested to look up sickle cell storage/ donation options. My list is getting bigger by the day of things to think about. First have to make a decision on prams though.

Kayzr · 13/02/2012 12:08

DS1's cot was from Mothercare and was a bit of a disaster. Half of the screws etc were missing. Then when they finally sent us some more and we put it together it seemed really flimsy. It would shake if DS1 moved. My stepdad took it apart and put it back together which made no difference.

So we got a new one from Kiddicare. Pretty much everything DS2 had was from Kiddicare. I've always found them to be brilliant.

I have only heard good things about John Lewis, I've never used them as there isn't one anywhere near here.

Dontbugmemalone · 13/02/2012 12:14

Thank you all for the welcome :)

I haven't been on an antenatal thread before so I'm unsure as what to actually write!

Dalrymps · 13/02/2012 12:16

Yeah, kiddo are also good. Got ds1's bed from thereSmile

Forgot to say, I think John Lewis do free delivery of spend is over £50. We got our cot delivered as the one here is 60 Miles away.

Dalrymps · 13/02/2012 12:16

Kiddo?!Grin kiddicare!

Kayzr · 13/02/2012 12:25

Is anyone else suffereng with heartburn? I have it really bad and the gaviscon seems to have completely stopped working. I was wondering if anybody is using something else?

CathFin · 13/02/2012 12:37

Kayzr - I prefer Rennies tablets - I have a bit of a gagging thing going on with Gaviscon, yewk!

We had a basic mothercare cot which has been fine - I don't buy much in there though, I think a lot of its very over priced.

Our cotbed came from Kiddicare and is great too.

Had to take DS to A&E on Saturday night with a bout of croup - luckily we were in and out within about an hour but I was feeling pretty shoddy and then he kept me up for 2 hours with his cough last night so I'm not feeling too perky today either. Luckily DH and inlaws have taken kids out for a couple of hours so I can put my feet up!

Hi Dontbugme!

bemybebe · 13/02/2012 12:47

"Is anyone else suffereng with heartburn? I have it really bad and the gaviscon seems to have completely stopped working. I was wondering if anybody is using something else?"

I am since about 14 weeks. Thank god for maternity presciption exemption, I would have to take out a mortgage with my Gaviscon consumption.

Liquid Gaviscon, I have to say, is the best thing, especially when taken preventatively. The only other way to handle it is to choose the right foods (limit anything acidic, fruit juices in particular set me off) and eat at least 3 hours before going to bed. You can also choose to lie on high pillows at night or for daytime snoozing to elevate your chest and limit heartburn, but I have to keep my legs up at least 8 hours a day, so I do not have this option.

Warlin · 13/02/2012 13:44

Thanks for the cot advice...I will try John Lewis. We don't have one locally either you can order online and they deliver.

dontbugme just write about anything that is bothering you, any advice you need to just if you feel like a good old rant :) We are all friendly and helpful I promise!

I have heartburn too but recently has been replaced by continuos coughing. Feel sorry for the LO as his head must get thrown around with it all. Hope he's ok :)

AmethystMoon · 13/02/2012 14:03

Welcome on board dontbugme, don't worry about what to write, we talk about all sorts - our worries, embarassing pregnancy related incidents Blush, and we get things off our chests a lot too..very therapeutic Grin

Good luck with your scan today Florin

Hope all of you with colds n coughs feel better soon. I had a very short lived cold over the weekend. Sore throat, very tired and blocked nose on Friday, bit worse Saturday but then seem to be almost back to normal today - very unlike me, my colds normally go on for weeks! Hoping this is a freaky pregnancy thing, but I suspect not Confused

Kayzr I've been getting heartburn more and more and found the only thing that works is eating very small amounts at any one time, otherwise boy do I suffer. I think LO is taking up lots of room and my stomach must be squeezed away in a tiny little nook somewhere! Oh and I'm with Cathfin on the Gaviscon...yuk yuk yuk, makes me gag too much!

I've avoided doing any research for prams and cots....all too much for my brain. So I just bought a small cot off of eBay based on its size as I don't have lots of room (it's arrived and is fab), just ordered a mattress to fit it. My pram is an icandy cherry which I got second hand off of the notice board at work (think I've already said this...eek baby brain again) for £110, was £600+ new, bought it based on price (love a bargain me) nice neutral colour (fudge), VV good condition, I can put it up and down on my own and it is light and I can lift it. I am rubbish I know, but I am blissfully naive as it's my first baby Grin.

SpecialJK · 13/02/2012 14:03

hi all. busy weekend and now I'm feeling run down with sore throat, headache and congestion. Hope I can shake it off.

Went shopping for the first time at the weekend, got my first babygro Grin and some vests. didn't go too extravagant... yet!
Had MIL helping with pram shopping, was really useful to have her there. narrowed it down to icandy strawberry or uppababy vista we think. Main drawback of strawberry is its shorter and I'm worried LO will grow out of it too quickly, but I also figured that when he/she is older, may want to manage with just a cheap maclaren fold up anyway rather than trailing a larger pram around. Any views from the 2nd/3rd timers Smile

welcome dontbugme

good luck for today florin

MammaInTheMaking · 13/02/2012 14:32

Just ordered some cloth nappies! 5 x bumgenius freetime and 7 x Totsbots Bamboozle Stretch. My friend is giving me all of her Bimbles and Bumbles and wraps so i reckon i'm good for nappies. Just need to sort out some boosters and wraps and i'm sorted :D

I ordered the Strawberry last week special. It just seemed to tick all the boxes plus baby can sleep in the carrycot overnight which seemed like a big big bonus. I agree with the size thing but am thinking the same as you...by the time it outgrows it i'll prob be getting a small fold-up anyway. I get the impression that the Strawberry is slightly more generous in size than the previous ones anyway.

My cousin is giving us her cot at the weekend so i think literally the only essential i still need is the chest of drawers!

Proper organised (and way too excited that baby is coming!)

Went to my first NCT Relax Stretch and Breathe class at the weekend and it was fantastic. I thoroughly recommend to everyone.

Hello Dontbugme! Find the stats a little way up the thread and add youself to it :o Just write anything that comes to mind, or lurk about on the thread. I go through days of reading but not writing and then a day of going a bit nuts and writing every couple of hours!
