Dalrymps DS is 2.4, we are very much doing a relaxed approach to potty training, didn't plan to start yet, but he wanted to! think it will be quite a while yet though before he's out of nappies!

Florin my mum, whose eldest child I am, said upon being told her first grandchild was a boy 'oh, it's always best to have a son first!' Hmm And my grandmother is not happy that I'm having a girl this time, as she wanted me to have 2 sons like she did. I have come to the conclusion that you can't win, and that what some people consider polite conversation is actually incredibly bloody rude! You do realise that you will be a MIL one day :o how scary is that concept?! I don't have a MIL, as she died 18 years ago :( DH has a MIL though and she has insulted him inadvertently more than once!!

hope everyone has a good weekend planned! I was supposed to be off to the cinema tonight, but friends cancelled again (for wholly legitimate reasons, so can't be angry at them!), so stuck at home eating chocolate with DH as usual, with The Big Bang Theory on E4 as usual. Sigh!

florin how bloody insensitiveAngry annoyed on your behalf. Take no notice, some people, honestly!

Kveta good idea to be relaxed about the potty training. I wish ds was ready as then I wouldn't have 2 sets of nappies to change when ds3 gets here but I'm no going to rush him. If I started before he was ready it would just be counterproductive. Enjoy your chocolateGrin Dalrymps scoffs down a creme egg

Dalrymps · 10/02/2012 21:15

Oh meant to mention. We thought we were set for the name - Jude Harrison. Well turns out we've decided we're not sure now so back to the drawing board..

Any suggestions?Smile

CathFin · 11/02/2012 07:27

Florin your mil sounds like she was being a bit thoughtless (to say the least!).

I have heard so many out of order comments since I had children that I just ignore most of it now!
Have a good weekend everyone, I am going bra shopping today!

ecstatica · 11/02/2012 11:21

Morning girls,
Bemybebe Also happy that you are here with us you take it as easy as you like Grin
Florin -- I am with Cathfin. I try to ignore any comments that come our way now, there will always be someone, funnily enough, usually the closest to us!
Dalrymps -- I have looked at a few names and that's it although I'm constantly being asked what we've chosen. I haven't a clue so no suggestions from me but I'll be interested to see what others recommend.
K - Kayzr and Kveta - I keep getting you both mixed up!!!
Tea n Hobs - Aghhh...are you downing the old Gaviscon? It's not funny is it. Had it bad last PG, has not decided to join me yet as it is probably waiting for the SPD to get worse!
Warlin Hope you had some rest y'day.
TDW - Hope you're well today.

Hello to all the girls, I've only, as you can tell, gone back about a half page.
I need to refill the hot water bottle, down some pain relief and have promised DS1 a game of Guess Who :) See you all later.

p.s. have not planned or bought anything yet -- what is wrong with me?!?

Shelduck · 11/02/2012 12:10

Hi all,

Florin - what a rude thing for your MIL to say - but also what a strange thing to say! Don't you sometimes wonder what goes through people's heads before they open their mouths?!
CathFin - hope the bra shopping goes OK. I'm still feeling a bit shocked from realising that it's been about 18 years since I last wore a non-wired bra. (Am I that old, or just big?!)
Tea n Hobs - :( I'm not looking forward to the heartburn. But it does amuse me that with each new delightful sympton, my digestive system is gradually turning into that of DH. Kind of like a reverse sympathetic pregnancy. I think he'll be well stocked with Gaviscon to ply me with.

Feeling quite excited today because I've finally managed to get DH to feel a kick. I realised about a week ago that I could feel kicks through the skin, but they're so unpredictable and usually strongest when I'm lying in a funny position. So I've been trying to engineer this all week with no success. Ends with DH withdrawing hand, giving a sad little sigh and saying forlornly "Hiding from daddy!" But not today - had a full-on aerobic routine of kicks first thing this morning [ooh - we've just woken up again, just to emphasise the point], and DH was able to get in the right place at the right time to catch some of them. Very pleased!

ChateauMargot · 11/02/2012 13:40

Florin what a silly comment for MIL to make! People do come out with the strangest (inadvertently quite stupid/hurtful) things. Before we knew that the baby was a girl, FIL told us that he was relieved my BIL and SIL had had a girl because the men in his family have 'bad genes' (in terms of having terrible tempers, etc.). Wondered what on earth he would have said if it had turned out that we were having a boy!

ecstatica I've not bought anything yet apart from a picture book that makes DH and me both laugh out loud, and a pair of booties (used to announce pregnancy to DH last year). Still feels like tempting fate to start buying babygros, etc. - although I have lots of things bookmarked on my Favourites..!

Cath good luck with the bras. I'm still wearing underwired, although one bra is very definitely uncomfortable now (the others seem alright for the moment). Was rather hoping I could hold out until breastfeeding starts to shell out for maternity bras?..

ecstatica · 11/02/2012 13:47

Chateau Margot Thanks for that. I think that's the underlying problem, i feel like i'm tempting fate. With DS1 I was buying and was given unmentionable amounts of baby stuff from both Grandmothers and friends from the off I think there were bags and bags of stuff that never even got a look at! I want to shop but something is stopping me and now making me anxious -- I don't know what on earth is wrong with me, perhaps because I'm just not feeling well Hmm I'll give myself another few weeks and see how I feel. Feel really silly TBH!
Not myself today, hormones no doubt!

Ohh....in my attempt to buy something baby related I visited an ebay seller who apparently sells the custom made blankets...wait for it... that Peaches Geldof bought and mentioned in Hello Magazine! So it that floats your boat and you've chosen a name there's an idea :)

ChateauMargot · 11/02/2012 14:01

Ha ha... will have to check those out!

I don't think you should feel anxious about not wanting to shop. Apart from anything else, we also know that we'll probably be receiving loads of stuff as gifts, plus hand me downs from BIL and SIL (they wanted to give us two huge bags of clothes a couple of weeks ago, but even then it felt too early to accept)... and I honestly don't yet know if we'll want to use, say, a sleep sack or blankets, baby carrier or sling, etc. so not much point buying stuff now that might not suit us/the baby once she's here...

thedogwalker · 11/02/2012 14:43

Hi everyone, Florin feel for you hun, it's just so insensitive. When I told my DM, that I was having a HEALTHY DS2, she said, oh never mind, it can't be helped. When I said, did you hear me, the LO is healthy, she just said, well you must have wanted a DD this time, made me quite Angry at the time, but I have let it blow over as I don't think she realised what she really had said, and DH and me are happy that we are having another DS, he will be a great pal to the DS1.
Shelduck oh what a lovely story, made me smile. So glad your DH got to feel the kicks Smile
I've not done any shopping yet, sorry but I'm going to be recycling alot of DS1's clothes as that are all still in good condition. I found with DS1 that we had so many clothes, that he only wore some a few times before growing out of them, so they still look brand new. I will nearer the time buy this LO some new things, like his coming home outfit etc, but I won't be shelling out loads. Hope everyone is feeling good and having a great weekend, take care xx

TheLittleMe · 11/02/2012 17:01

eek, well done to all of you for being so restrained on the shopping front - I on the other hand have gone out and bought E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G! Literally, clothes to pram, cot to steriliser. I am a bit of a shopaholic though!

CathFin · 11/02/2012 17:33

Shelduck - I went to my trusted bra shop and bought two underwired bras, the other ones make my boobs look bliddy awful and this time I'm really not bothered about anything apart from being comfortable and these ones are (so far). I did try on one maternity bra and it was truly awful.

Will go back and get some feeding bras at about 38 weeks, really hope this time that my boobs settle down to a size where I can wear some of my old bras instead of having to replace everything (again!).

Also used my 30% off voucher in Gap to get some more maternity tops!

Spent too much really - oops!

Dalrymps · 11/02/2012 20:29

I am just wearing my feeding bras from last time at the mo as I seem to fit them and they're a whole lot more supportive than any maternity bras I've tried and still not underwired.

Of course when my milk comes in I'll get bigger so I think I'm gonna need some more feeding brasHmm

ecstatica · 11/02/2012 20:33

Thelittleme -- I'm more inclined to say well done you! I was so prepared with DC1.
I've had a very hormonal day and lots of anxieties about everything, I think i'm just really, really tired as was evident from bursting into tears while cooking -- my DS1 told me to sit down and that he could finish the curry if I told him what to do...bless, he's only just 6.
Cannot wait to get the crutches, hobbling around and feel fat and pathetic.
Sorry for the moan. I would take to bed with a book but even that is uncomfy.

Promise not to post until moans are well and truly over :)
Will be a happy face next time.

SeriouslyStrongCheddar · 12/02/2012 11:18

Morning all!

Interesting to hear where everyone is with shopping. I've bought a few bits and bobs but got very angry with DHL about a delivery yesterday morning so made myself feel better by going on ebay and buying a ridiculous number of vest and babygros Grin

My mum and dad visited yesterday and brought over my crib from when I was a baby to use for daytime naps downstairs (the baby's naps, not mine - unfortunately) - one trip to B & Q later to replace missing bolts, it was assembled in the lounge and looks pretty much okay! It's a bit warped here and there but looks functional - and if it saves us having to buy one, I'm all for it! They also bought some of the stuff my mum's been knitting (very cute) and a gift of a Tummy Tub and stand (which is great as the stand can be used as a stool / step and also converts to a potty for later use!).

Spent some time sorting out some old clothes yesterday so my mum could take them for a charity shop - unfortunately, all the dust has really aggravated my asthma. Took so many doses of steroid inhaler / normal inhaler yesterday I lost count! Didn't really sleep much due to wheezing etc so feel pretty shattered today - it'll calm down after a couple of days but could really have done with a restful weekend as it's a bit mad at work at the moment!

Anyway, hope everyone is having a good weekend and I'm off to watch a film!

Kayzr · 12/02/2012 11:23

Seriously I am also feeling pretty angry with DHL. I have ordered something for the wedding from a website that imports. So I have to pay import tax, fine thats ok. But I had a letter yesterday saying I have refused to pay it when they've tried to deliver it. But they have never tried to bloody deliver it!!

Miniangel · 12/02/2012 13:55

Hi Ladies

Hope you all are having a great weekend. All this talk of shopping. My wish list on amazon is getting bigger by the day. We went for the john lewis nursery advice tour yesterday. It was awesome as the advisor showed us everything patiently and explained all the features. You don't have to buy anything but it's a great for research purposes. I would highly recommed it.

I have decided on all the big items expect the pushchair. I am stuck between bugaboo chameleon and Stokke Xplory. Both cost the earth and have their pros and cons. Has anyone used a Stokke?

I have got the fisher price swing from a friend of mine and this is our first baby item in the house. It's very exciting.

Kveta · 12/02/2012 15:39

hi all, we got our phil and teds today, very exciting! took DS round IKEA in it, and found it has a flat tire, but otherwise, pretty good. just need to clean my britax now to sell it on (sob!). just need to get our travel cot back from my sister now, as baby will be using it for the first few months.

DS is being EXTREMELY hard work this weekend, totally irrepressible and up to mischief all the time. DH and I have been taking turns to lose our temper with him!

regarding bras, I just got some non-wired ones, and will get new nursing bras nearer the due date.

insomnia is still a bloody nuisance - I have averaged 3 hours sleep a night over the past week, and am broken with tiredness at the moment. Last night I woke up at 1, and just could not settle back to sleep, it was a long night. think tonight will need drugs...

right, DS is being horribly quiet, must go and find out what he has destroyed now...

AmethystMoon · 12/02/2012 16:08

Hello everyone, phew just spend half an hour catching up on all of the posts!

I'm glad your re-scan went well Thelittleme :)

Kveta your story about your DS and his first toilet poo really made me laugh, just the thought of him sticking his head in to get a better look Grin

I'm another one desperate to get to 24 weeks. My Mum was born at 25 weeks, and considering she was born in 1954 and baby special care units didn't exist, she must have been a tough little thing! I'me 21 weeks now and just want the next month out of the way.

I hope you're feeling a bit better Warlin here's a Brew to cheer you up.

Florin That was very thoughtless of your MIL. I don't really have one, well I do but she doesn't acknowledge me. Long story but basically DP's family are close to his Ex wife and they think he left her for me (he didn't) and so as far as they are concerned I don't exist. They won't even send his birthday cards to our house, they send them to his office! It doesn't bother me but I feel sorry for our baby as he won't know one set of grandparents :( From my past experience (I was married before) I think MIL always feel threatened by their DS's DW or DP and so feel the need to be a bit snipey on occasion to remind you they are his Mum! Thats aaid I know a few friends who have lovely MIL....I just have never had a DH or DP with a particularly pleasant mother!

Shelduck my DP felt our LO one kick for the first time yesaterday too Grin, felt so nice that he can share that too now.

Ecstatica I hope the crutches help you and lessen the pain, it must be very draining for you to feel in pain all of the time.

Whilst we're on bra talk I am very Envy of those of you still in their normal bras. I started out as a 34C, was up to a 34D by 9 weeks, 36D by 12 weeks, 36DD by 17 weeks and now a 36E and growing!!! It's costing me a fortune. I tried to economise by buying cheap bras from Tesco, but they fit so badly I've ended up with big red scars at the front of my chest and on my shoulders, which still haven't healed. I'm now in wireless maternity bras but am dreading needing to buy any more maternity bras. I'm really hoping the growth slows and I can just wait to buy a coupld of nursing bras nearer the time.

Have a fab Sunday evening, right off to finish the housework...

CathFin · 12/02/2012 21:17

Kveta - get some Slime for your P&T tyres. It not only fixes the puncture but means you won't get any more for 2 yrs. I did my tyres finally last month and so far so good. I'd been getting loads of flats and it was doing my head in!

Amethyst - I can see why 24 weeks is important for you - amazing how tough your mum must have been!
Forunately my cup size is the same, but my back size has gone up so I was pretty uncomfortable.

rrrayray · 12/02/2012 21:31

Just popping in for a quick hi.

10000fireflies · 12/02/2012 22:11

Evening All

Am glad to hear I?m not the only one who hasn?t bought anything. I?ve knitted quarter of a matinee jacket, and we have made a half hearted bid on a pushchair on ebay. Sadly, not much chance of hand-me-downs as most of our friends with young kids live abroad, and friends in UK with kids had them 10-15 years ago! We will start making a list soon and checking out the NCT sales and ebay etc.

Mini I love the Xplory too, but DH not keen. It doesn?t fold down that well, but I love the idea of having the baby so high up. Plus doubles as a high chair!! Have you checked out reviews on MN and also Which? And shouldn't I be making the final decision as I'll be using it the most??!!

Amethyst I was going to suggest bra extenders, but see it?s your cup size increasing as well as back. Saw some bras in JL, which were just sized S/M/L/XL and were super-comfy with silk. Can?t find on website though. Will post details if I find. Thinking of getting one myself. Are lovely and soft.

I felt what could almost be described as kicks today, but not absolute. At least we have the Doppler and heard the heartbeat again this am. Suspect may have boy on board. I seem to be transfixed with Top Gear, followed by ?Toughest Place to be a Train Driver?. GrinGrin

For everyone who?s feeling a bit worried, try the mantra I learnt on another thread: ?for today I am pregnant?. Is quite good to repeat to self now and then.

Has everyone had their 20 week scan now, or are there more to come? Get well wishes to everyone who?s feeling grotty. Have a good week. Xx FF

AmethystMoon · 13/02/2012 08:19

I like the sound of those nice soft bras 10000fireflies, if you do find any details I'd be interested. I've heard the NCT sales are good and I got a bargain cot from ebay £30, a lovely nursing chair for £67 (£279 new) and a pram/pushchair (icandy Cherry) off of a notice board at work for £110 (over £600 new!), so hopefully you'll find some bargains too, there's certainly lots out there. Good luck.
I'm off to see my MW shortly, hoping she'll let me hear the heartbeat again :) It seems odd having no scans to look forward to now, but if I don't have to have any more I guess that is good news as nothing to worry about.

Have a good day everyone :) x

Kveta · 13/02/2012 09:29

thanks CathFin, will get some slime for the tires! DH is very taken with the phil and teds, so I am pleased we went for it in the end!

RE: stokke etc - I have tried a number of extortionate high-end prams/pushchairs out, and really can't see that much difference between them. The Bugaboos and iCandys seems to be very similar to the Britax/Oyster ones, and the Stokke looks like a golf cart - I really do not find it aesthetically pleasing! I know a lot of folk with the mothercare My3/My4 ones, and they rave about them. Not heard anything positive about the mamas and papas range at all (all friends with them have had problems, and then even bigger issues with customer services!). I would advise though, based on my current experience, that if you plan to have another baby withing 2-3 years, seriously consider getting one that can convert to a double!! I am kicking myself for not just getting a phil and teds or similar 3 years ago, it would have made life a lot cheaper! Just my experience though :) Oh, and don't get a Graco Mosaic whatever you do...

I took an antihistamine last night, and managed a full night of sleep (up twice, but fell asleep afterwards, yay!). So hopefully this week won't be too knackering! I could so easily have stayed in bed all day today though.

happy monday everyone :o only 5 days until the weekend, woohoo!
