Welcome Shelduck, glad things are now feeling real for you.
Itchy, I'm going to have a look at the name website, as me and DH can't decide on a name, hopefully that will give me some inspiration before he comed home next week. Megan was on our short list for a girl, infact we agreed on some girls names, no use now, I don't think DS would take too kindly to being called Megan Grin
Chataeu That's a steep rise, has the landlord given a reason for such a large increase?
SSC my DS has always used his travel cot without a problem, but then I suppose it depends on each child and how good they are at going to sleep in the first place. DS has always been great at going down, which is why I'm thinking this LO is going to be a right monkey, as to have 2 DS who are good would be true good to be true, but I have my fingers x.
Emblosion and Amethyst glad the scan went ok and that LOs are doing well.
I have booked my scan for the 24 February so that DH can see our LO before he goes away again. He will be so happy as he thinks he has missed his chance.
Hope eveyone is well take care xx

CathFin · 08/02/2012 19:53

Chateau - I would both check whether that increase is legal and also remind the landlord that you are good tenants, pay on time etc etc.
We also rent, each year we have negotiated when the landlord requested a raise and have either negotiated the requested amount down significantly or totally (except this year but they did put double glazing in so we didn't have much to moan about!). Good luck with that anyway!

ecstatica · 08/02/2012 21:03

It is detrimental to my health if I do not log in at least once a day! I am now seriously knackered from catching up on all your posts Grin
How many of us are left for scanning now? (sorry, sounds like products on factory line!) And welcome to all newbies! :)
For those of you lovely ladies on Maternity Leave or homemaking, enjoy every second of browsing and surfing for those baby things! Although I was a bit bored at times, in hindsight, my first pregnancy was so relaxed and there was so much time to nest, arrange, shop etc.. I also met fellow Mumsnetters during that time, had lunch and a baby shopping trip with one when we were both 7mths, was lovely. Life is certainly different with 3 running around now Hmm, wonderful but different. I've just bought each DS a dressing up costume, so now have Spiderman, Superman and some Transformer DH is peeved that I didn't choose Batman Hmm onwards and upwards for DS2's birthday prep.

I've been eating all day Blush it's not funny!

MonkeyJr · 08/02/2012 22:02

Hi All,

Congratulations on all the scans - you are all making me v jealous as mine is not until Monday. Not long to go now though! And thanks to all those that made me feel better about my slightly lax eating of late - I just crave those carbs all the time and I managed 3 creme eggs the other night.

This weekend is going to be maternity clothes shopping as I am now popping out of all my work clothes - wish me luck!

rachyroodle · 08/02/2012 22:41

Hi all, Anyone else have a little cry during One Born every Minute tonight?

Ceej, Marj, Mama, Emblosion - want to have a look at cloth nappies too so will have a look at Nappy Lady now and see what they say. Think the likelihood is that I will use disposables at the very beginning though. I have never even changed a disposable before so think I should start with the simplest option and work my way up!

SpecialJK · 09/02/2012 07:48

Hi ladies. In dublin for work, so 2 days to catchup on, we can talk!

mamma have you looked at the local councils website? Our offers free cloth nappy starter packs to try.

Spoke to midwife yesterday and not banned from sex, phew! Smile

Looking forward to getting home. Planning on buying first baby stuff this weekend, how exciting!

tdw very excited for you that DH is due home soon, I know how that feels Grin

Glad to see that everyone is still getting good scan results. Any more to go now?

Kayzr · 09/02/2012 07:56

Morning.

I have a MW appointment today. Seems ages since I last went.

We've been forecast more snow. Bloody stuff Smile

Hope you're all well

HorseyGirl1 · 09/02/2012 08:10

Scan went well and everything looks perfect. We are having a little boy - love my bumpy so much. xx

itchyfootedlady · 09/02/2012 08:43

Oh christ... here comes another hormonal day... just read all the posts, got to horseygirl and cried. i love my bumpy too! :)

had a 'date' last night with a girl from Yogabirth. I say date because it was as nerveracking as being 15 again! I arranged to meet her in a pub for a dandelion and burdock... woohoo... and she was 5 minutes late due to snow, I thought I had been stood up. DH thought it was massively funny before I went out when i asked if my bump looked big in something and took the piss out of me for wearing mascara. Making friends as an adult is hard work! As it turned out she was lovely and i invited her up to see my baby crochet patterns on the way home. i think we might see each other again :)

SpecialJK · 09/02/2012 09:09

hi - forgot to say on the discussion about buying stuff, checkout your local NCT website (even if you're not going to their classes or are not a member)

They have regular 'nearly new sales' running, usually in spring. I'm going to my local one early March, hoping to pick up some stuff there.

Also agree on the changing tables, my friend has always just either used the floor or a low level chest of drawers. She also said a wardrobe is a waste of money, as baby and kids clothes are so small they don't really need hung up. She got a load of chest of drawers she uses and it seems to have worked well, so I'm going to try the same thing. (plus I don't really have space for a baby wardrobe)

Back to work! Smile

thedogwalker · 09/02/2012 09:15

Morning all, Rachy I didn't have a little cry at OBEM, I cried buckets. Kayzr hope all is well at MW appointment. Horsey cngratulations on your boy. Itchy glad your 'date' went well. I've made loads of new friends since having DS, it is harder but worth it in the end. I'm still off work due to illness, can't wait to shake this bug. Hope everyone has a good day, take care xx

TeaandHobnobs · 09/02/2012 09:45

Rachy, TDW not only did I cry at OBEM, but I made DH watch for the first time and he cried too! Which is unheard of! I think I have known him cry a total of 3 times in the 7 years we have been together (last night being number 4). He said he feels really traumatised now! He is not good at that sort of thing - can't cope with gore, suspense, anything like that. At least he has now come around to agreeing to hypnobirthing!

Congrats on your boy Horsey!

And sorry you're still not feeling well, TDW, hope things improve soon Thanks

Thanks for the reminder about the nearly new sales SpecialJK - I think there is one near here at the beginning of March. Does it matter if you're not an NCT member so don't get in as early?

We have absolutely no room for a changing table, so our solution will probably be a changing mat on the floor, or the chest of drawers in the other bedroom - although I did say to DH "well of course we won't be able to use that in the night if people are staying in there"... He said "well they'll just have to do the nappy changing" !!!! Shock Of course his grand plan is to come downstairs in the night and use the table down there - "in the dark?" I said (we currently have no bannister or rail)... "no I'll switch the light on obviously" ............

ChateauMargot · 09/02/2012 11:53

thedogwalker CathFin emblosion - thanks! It's a hefty increase, though not as much as what our last landlord tried to pull on us (15%). Only explanation is that other lettings agents are telling him the property is worth a lot more (we disagree, although it is a nice flat in a useful part of London), and with the Olympics this summer he's keen to make some extra bucks.

In a way we're relieved because if he can find new tenants he'll release us early and we can more in April - so, two months to get settled before the birth. We've also got extremely noisy neighbours here, and there have been one or two other minor annoyances about the flat, so we're not particularly attached to it. Really hoping that we'll manage to find something lovely and affordable... though it's depressing how much money we could save by going down to a one-bed (we're just on the cusp of being able to afford really nice 2-beds, but we're already at the limit of what we can pay each month)...

bemybebe · 09/02/2012 12:32

tea did you consider one of these tray things for changing nappies that go over the top of the cot? these seem to be a reasonable solution if the space is an issue.

AmethystMoon · 09/02/2012 12:38

Welcome Shelduck :)

I had my scan yesterday and everything looks okay...so relieved as I was so worried something might be amiss - there just seems so much that can go wrong. I'm having a little girl, am very happy as I really didn't mind :)

Congrats on your scans too miniangel, emblosion and Horsey, glad everything is good for you.

I'm thinking about cloth nappies too Mamma and have also filled in the nappy lady form..just havent' got around to reading the reply!

Must update our list now.

It's lovely to read happy scan news like this. I'm so pleased for everyone :)

The SPD, can't get used to new name yet, is bad here today. I barely slept last night and still haven't got a referral for the hospital. Called to speak to m/w who is on holiday so had lovely GP call me to say she'd moved it along and i'd have a call from physio not later than tomorrow :) I did call private physio but at 80quid for initial consultation and 60 thereafter I'm not sure it's good timing!

ChateauMargot - I'm sorry to hear about your landlord, London rentals must be extortionate right now. I hope you find something reasonable and in good time -- fingers crossed :)

Not much to say except 'owwwww'. I think the crutches will be next on things to P* me off and make life more difficult Hmm
On that happy note, wish you all a lovely day :)

Kveta · 09/02/2012 12:53

wow, lots of talk since yesterday!!

congrats on the new boys and girls, please update the stats!

we will be using disposable nappies again, as I value my washing machine too highly to try reusables! however, everyone I know who has used cloth says they are brilliant (the nappies, not the friends :o), I think they all went with bumgenius brand, not sure why. We will stick with pampers/huggies after trying all the value brands on DS and finding these were the only 2 which don't leak.

Chateau have you considered moving further out of London? I say that because we did, and got a lot more house for our money! Lived in Westbourne Park (10 mins from the station, on a dodgy road!) for a few years in a 1 bed top floor flat which was costing us £1100pcm, then up to Hertfordshire and got a 2 bed house, with garden and parking for 2 cars, and 5 minutes walk from the station/10 from town for £750pcm!! DH finds the commute much easier than it was fighting the tube to Paddington every day like he used to have to do. Still hates it though!

I still refuse to watch OBEM, but did guess from FB that last night there was a forceps delivery that went nasty? So so glad I didn't see that. although, FWIW, I had a forceps delivery with DS and although it was not a pleasant experience, he was fine, and so was I a few weeks later! I think I have a pic of him at 6 hours old on my profile, and you can see his bruising - but it was gone a few days later. So not all forceps deliveries are horrifying. Would still rather avoid one this time if possible!

speaking of DS, he slept through again last night - so this week, since we removed his dummy, he woke once friday and saturday night (and went back to sleep), slept through sunday, monday, woke once was calpoled, then slept in our bed tuesday night (so he slept, we didn't), then slept again last night - it's the best run of sleep we have had since september Shock and this time we can't make a baby in response to getting some sleep, so hopefully DH and I will actually get some rest at last!! :o

CathFin · 09/02/2012 12:53

Whoop - scan all okay here too, and a lovely sonographer. Makes it so much nicer - didn't find out the sex so we will have a surprise in June!

I have always changed mine on the floor (or the coffee table!) although I did quite fancy a changing table last time I didn't want to spend the money (cheapskate!).

Would definitely recommend the nearly new sales, see if you can volunteer to help - they you can see what is going on sale and normally get first dibs on stuff before the doors actually open. Depends where you are of course - we seem to end up with a lot of 'volunteers' at our local sale!

Kveta · 09/02/2012 12:55

xposted ecstatica sorry to hear your SPD/PGP is bad :( hope the physio helps.

OP posts:
MammaInTheMaking · 09/02/2012 13:05

Got my reply from the nappy lady. must say i'm impressed with all the information and it's really helped to explain all the different components!

I've been recommended TotsBots Bamboozle Stretch and Bumgenius Freetime. It also gives a breakdown of costs and the difference between disposables and reusables is huge. I've shown it to DP (who was quite against reusables) and his eyes lit up. So i think this is the green light to start researching in ernest! To be honest i don't think i'll be making any purchases until next pay day. Tonight i'm off to John Lewis to order the pram :o

With the baby wardrobe...thanks for the advice special. i had also started to question the need for a wardrobe seeing as i don't plan to hang anything up. Also am looking at a change area which isn't purpose built, more the mat on top of the chest of drawers type thingy. Will have to be a decent size though to fit all this stuff i'm planning on..... :)

Congrats on the boys and girls. I make it 9 boys and 11 girls!

I have my flu jab tomorrow. Oh OBEM, i was traumatised by the birth of Laragh, that poor couple going through that. Thank goodness she came out eventually. I don't think i'd have been so calm, forceps are my worst nightmare over everything else they could do...

ChateauMargot · 09/02/2012 13:14

Kveta we could definitely save by moving out of Zone 2, but one thing that's really important to DH is being able to walk to work, or endure at most two stops on the tube - saves money and also much less stressful. I'm also a total city girl at heart, have lots of friends in the area, etc. (I'm actually from overseas, so no family here) which means it would be hard to move further out, especially now...

Watched OBEM last night and was horrified by the forceps delivery - am gung ho for a water birth with minimal or no drugs, but give me a CS if it comes to that, please!

Lovely news about all the scans :)

Warlin · 09/02/2012 13:31

Wow you have been busy ladies from yesterday..has just taken me ages reading through all the posts :) Great on all the scan news...make sure everyone who knows the flavour updates the stats and there is no mission of me remembering who is having what!

Still feeling rough here though have got my voice back. Wish I could shake this awful cold and feel normal again.

We had a viewer on the house last night who seemed keen but haven't heard yet which isn't a good sign Confused. Just really want to get moved..it's so frustrating...all this nursery talk and we can't buy anything as we don't know where the nursery is going to be.

Felt traumatised at last night's OBEM....poor poor woman going through that and broke my heart to see the splint on wee Laragh....would be my worst nightmare having foreceps too..

mama thanks for keeping tally...9 boys, 11 girls and a few unconfirmed

I'm dying to see LO again but have to wait to the 22nd. Need new work trousers too.....only have one pair and fed up looking at them but can't find any!

Hope everyone's day is ok. I'm meeting my friend tonight who has a 3 week old daughter so keen to see how she's doing.

DH met an old work colleague yesterday who is due early March and said she'd not as big as me...! Shock my bump is big for 22 weeks

With you all on the carbs..had 2 creme eggs yesterday (after all your talk!) and a curly wurly today...mmmmm

Florin · 09/02/2012 14:43

Congratulations on all the scan news. We started off with more boys at the beginning but now the girls have over taken!
We have a nct nearly new sale at the beginning of March, we are definitely going. We are nct members which allows us a 30minute head start on the general public. Guessing it will be a run and grab exercise. Dh and I are going to work out what are our priorities before we go so we know what we are looking for. Does anyone know how you pay for everything? Do we need to take a wod of cash? Finally won a swinging glider crib on eBay so going to pick that up tonight. Really excited about it I think having that in the house is going to make it feel much more real. Baby Jasper's first life jacket turned up last night too so he is all set for the boat. Now just need to bid on one of those pop up samsonite travel cots so he has somewhere to sleep when when we are onboard. Might need to get him a little sailor outfit to wear too!
Hats off to you all looking into disposable nappies my goddaughter was in them and have to admit I didn't like them, the extra washing and just dealing with them was to much for me. However I have a massive stack of unused traditional terry's nappies. Mil bought them to use for dh but then decided to use disposables once he was born. I am guessing they will make handy clothes to mop up baby put under baby etc.

CathFin · 09/02/2012 16:15

Florin email the organiser but we have used chip and pin at ours, or cheque or cash. Probably actually depends on if it is a table top sale with people selling their own personal stuff, or whether your branch organise all the stuff for sale and then give the owners their cut afterwards....
