ThePicK Sympathies on the lack of creme eggs, in fact sympathies on the lack of chocolate all together! Hope you manage to replenish your stocks soon!

TDW Can't stand creme eggsShock how can this possibly be?! I will happily eat some extra ones to save you from themGrin

Warlin · 08/02/2012 11:18

Morning all

Loving the scan news...callme congrats on yo sur 'probably' boy :)

Just a quick one as feeling really shitty here. Zero sleep last night so working from home today...actually more daytime tv watching than working! Hurt my neck yesterday so couldn't get comfortable. I also have a really sore throat/ bad cold and have now practically lost my voice :( Plus my bump feels really weird...think I've had another growth spurt and feel like everything inside it is big squashed up! I'm really big now and it's gettting in the way already. On the plus side my dreamgeni arrived yeserday so fingers crossed I'll get more sleep tonight.

Sorry for the rant...I'm never normally sick but seem to be picking up one thing after another these days.

TDW will be so nice to have another scan with DH...so excited that he's home soon.

Creme eggs are great...mmmmm....had a whole packet of mini eggs the other day...gotta love Easter Grin

Good luck for any scans today x

MammaInTheMaking · 08/02/2012 11:28

Groupon have another deal on preggo scans in London today. They seem to have one pretty much every week. May be worth seeing if there's a deal in your area to save a bit of cash?

Baby snoozed all day yesterday and decided it was party time when i was going to bed. It's turning out to be a little rascal! We're getting loads of stuff second hand which is fab and so appreciated. Anything i've bought so far has been in the sale or with some kind of voucher. The only thing we're splashing out on is a friggin expensive pram/travel system thing. I'm telling myself it's ok by only having packed lunches for the next month and saving the extra £4 i spend a day at stupid London priced sandwich shops. We still need a wardrobe and change table/draws unit. I reckon Ikea's going to get a visit soon. We don't have a car so it limits how much stuff we can get from ebay and freecycle type places.

Good luck for today's scans :)

ThePicKvickPapers · 08/02/2012 11:36

oh god, am drooling at the thought of creme eggs now, must source some!! :o I shall also eat any surplus from TDW :o

Mamma I think Ikea do deliveries on larger items, so it might not be so bad. Would be worth hiring a car or getting a taxi if not, as we always end up laden with more stuff than we intended to get :o the Antilop highchair is brilliant btw, for anyone looking for IKEA bargains for the future! we are planning a trip there soon, as we are decorating the kids room this month and I want some new stuff for it. the aged cotbed is so decrepit now, I think I need to brighten up the room a bit! oh, and re: change table - we just had a chest of drawers that was not too tall, and put a changing mat on that. We are doing the same this time. Changing units are a bit of a waste of money/space IMO! Ooh, and the baby gym here is a great investment too - we had a fabric archway one and a wooden one like this IKEA one, and DS would scream at the fabric one and loved the wooden one. Every baby who has borrowed the wooden one has been the same, weirdly!

Warlin hope you are better soon, we had a bad night too, and it's crap, isn't it? enjoy your working from home day :)

MammaInTheMaking · 08/02/2012 13:27

Hey Pick thanks for the info. We checked out Ikea delivery and they charge £30 for what we were looking to get. Seems a bit steep really so we figured we'd hire a van to get it. Agree with you on the chest of draws/change station thingy. I reckon we'll be doing exactly as you have done.

Just bought a baby sling from Snugbaby. Pretty chuffed as another thing off the list!

Shelduck · 08/02/2012 13:46

Hello everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself. I've been happily lurking on MN for a couple of weeks, but have just found this thread, so I think this is where I need to be!

I'm now 22 weeks with DC1, following mmc last July. Successfully through scan a couple of weeks ago, and finally feel that I can relax a bit. (And DH's knuckles are not quite so white!) Now feel that I'm actually pregnant rather than just tentatively pregnant, and that having a baby is something that will almost certainly happen rather than something that might happen if nothing goes wrong. So I now feel like I can actually start making plans and looking forward a bit - hence joining MN!

Bump coming along nicely. (It was a race between bump and boobs for a while there, but bump now definitely winning.) Currently enjoying lots of little kicks and round ligament pain (not so much).

So that's me. Hope I'm not being too rude not commenting on other posts yet. Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do :) but will get up to speed soon, promise.

Kveta · 08/02/2012 13:54

welcome aboard Shelduck! don't worry about getting up to speed, I still haven't :o add yourself to the stats though! and congrats on your pg, hope you are managing to enjoy it now!

Dalrymps curse you and your creme eggs, I managed to track some down at lunchtime, and now baby is having a great time kicking away at my bladder after the sugar rush! I wish she'd kick me more to the front sometimes, so that DS and DH could feel her, and so that my bladder didn't feel constantly under attack!

Mamm I am now plotting an IKEA trip this weekend, as we are picking up the pushchair from north london, and it just so happens to be near the Tottenham store - so if we went there, that would be 3 of the 4 London stores visited :o a fabulous achievement :o

oh, I meant to say - those of you with SPD/PGP/Whatever it is currently called - how is it manifesting itself? I am starting to hurt when I get out of bed, when I get out of the car, and after climbing the stairs, but only in my groin area. Does that sound like the beginnings of SPD? it's basically whenever I move my legs apart, if that makes sense?

Why do we do this to ourselves again?!

OP posts:
Kayzr · 08/02/2012 14:05

Shelduck Welcome and congats!!

Kveta Thats exactly how SPD/PGP/Whatever started with DS2. Sorry Smile

MammaInTheMaking · 08/02/2012 14:07

defo do the Ikea run if you're in the area. why not?? you'll be able to pick up loads of useful stuff in there. we're South London so i'm scheduling DP in for a trip to Croydon in March!

Baby's been going nuts this lunch, as if it was having a paddy in there. Sometimes when it kicks internally it feels like it's booting my bum. that's probably the most uncomfortable thing it does.

Welcome Shelduck! I appreciate the worries you've been through and now feeling like you're safe and can really believe this is happening. I also had a MC in August and it's only recently that i've started to chill out. But now that we're at this point i think we really have to believe. Keep sending the happy hormones to baby :o

Kveta · 08/02/2012 14:24

Kazyr Damn. Angry Sad

Mamma Croydon is the only one we haven't visited :o one day... :o

bemybebe · 08/02/2012 14:26

mamma well done with snugbaby! regarding the changer/bath - I have picked up m&p one from gumtree for £50gbp and hope to sell it on once we finish with it. keep an eye on those listings, they do come up in london area and the one I have (called evolve changer) can be easily disassembled to a very manageable size that you can take on the tube (but do not wait til you are 39+ wks)

welcome shelduck I know how you feel as all my pg so far were very difficult and i still do not have a child that i took home. but i feel much better this time.

MammaInTheMaking · 08/02/2012 14:31

Another good tip from bemybebe! That's 2 in 1 day. OK, i need to get my butt onto Gumtree :o

Who's thinking about the cloth nappy route? I am. Have been reading about them and it seems mind boggling! Have filled in the form on the Nappy Lady website to see what's recommended for our needs.

ceeej · 08/02/2012 14:32

Welcome shelduck and yay for being able to relax a bit and make plans :) I wouldn't worry too much about catching up, it's hard enough keeping up day to day sometimes! my bump has also definitely overtaken my boobs now, not going to be long before I loose sight of my toes.

mamma my LO has just worked out booting me backwards too, DH pulled such a funny face when I told him she was kicking me in the bowels!

Warlin hope you feel better soon, I'm sure easter chocolates will help speed your recovery :)

Even though we know the sex I'm still struggling to get DH to think about possible names, he's such an analytical person that the idea of just falling in love with a name doesn't really work for him but I can't think of a 'rational' way to come up with one. Every time I hand him a book of names he reads a few pages then complains that it includes loads of 'stupid' names. Need a new strategy but not sure what it is yet.

ceeej · 08/02/2012 14:35

mamma I'm keen to use cloth nappies but holding off doing the research until the thesis is finished (because baby stuff is so much more interesting and therefore distracting), when I had a quick look there did seem to be a bewildering range available though!

Kayzr · 08/02/2012 14:45

Mamma I got Bambino Mio cloth nappies for DS2. I have never regretted anything more in my whole life. They leaked all the time, gave him awful nappy rash and were a complete disaster. I have quite a few friends that use cloth nappies that get on fine with them. Since then I have read quite a few reviews of Bambino Mio ones that say they are really bad for leaking.

StarlightDicKenzie · 08/02/2012 14:51

Hi all.

Is anyone else getting Braxton Hicks already?

They were really taking my breath away last night..

MammaInTheMaking · 08/02/2012 14:52

that's so disappointing Kayzr, poor DS2 leaking and getting rash. I bet that was one of the most annoying things to deal with :( From what i've been reading the Bumgenius and Little Lamb ones seem to get pretty decent reviews. Although when it started going on about inserts and bamboo and other things i got thoroughly confused. Will defo be going down the second hand route with these, try and few different makes and then pick one or go for disposables. I really don't want to use disposables exclusively though. I'm not 'green' enough to not see the worth in disposables for convenience, but i am 'green' enough to want to try and limit our impact on the planet... If anyone has any clue or somewhere that explains things simply then give me a shout!

I've posted on here more today than i probably have in my entire pregnancy. Really must do some work Wink

Kayzr · 08/02/2012 14:57

Yeah I have only heard good things about Bumgenius ones. I was tempted by washable ones but with all the washing 2 adults and 3 children will create I think it might be a bit much.

itchyfootedlady · 08/02/2012 15:29

welcome shelduck ... kveta fingers crossed you don't have PGP! Apparently don't do breat stroke when swimming, avoid stairs as much as possible and try and keep your knees together. Sounds like 19th century etiquette lessons :)

oooh, I have done the nappylady online form thing and am now at least going to try the reuseable route as it seems cheaper and greener in the long run... my mum thinks i'm nuts when i could just use disposables! Bumgenius look to be the best for what I need, although nappylady recommended some hideously complicated 5 part package with random additional stuff that confused me as a first option... then bumgenius second and it sounded a lot easier! You can get them on ebay... whats the betting i'll be bidding against you ladies shortly! If you see itchy on ebay then don't hike up my price please - we can share the stuff!!! Also looked at the biodegradeable ones as a compromise but they are more expensive than normal which is a bit steep. Aparently Asda do the best cheapest ones and they are great of your baby has sensitive skin as its all cotton stuff.

also excellent IKEA tip earlier - I can't remember who posted the wooden play gym thing but its lovely... am now visiting the Birmingham store at the weekend when we visit my mum and dad! Since scan i have been stupidly verexcited and have done no work at all... just looked at baby things online. Trying to buy a chest of drawers on ebay for babies room, sofa bed delivered on Friday so we can still have guests... cute IKEA rug chosen and DH has started to design a mobile for the cot. God help us there's another 4+ months of this!

ceej have you seen the www.magicbabynames.com/ site, its great fun and might reduce the amount of names your DH has to look through? We have now added Lara and Megan to the ever expanding list. Tried to talk about names last night and degenerated into picking on each others favourites in a bid to boost our own faves. Very childish... and ruined at least two options by the time we had finished!

Can't work. Just can't. I don't care about any of it... back to ebay and searching for drawers!

CathFin · 08/02/2012 15:55

itchy - I'm a bit name obsessed at the moment and despite already having a Martha all the girl names I like end in 'a'. I did mention Teresa to a friend yesterday and she was quite negative about it - not sure why, I do quite like it but I'm not sure it will be what we end up with!

Welcome Shelduck! I'm 21 weeks and have my scan tomorrow, planning to start properly sorting my things out once we have a bit more certainty that everything is okay in there (despite it being my 3rd!)

Also going to the doc tomorrow - can't remember if I said about my hyper salivation with this pregnancy but it is horrible and if they can give me something I'd definitely consider it as I either end up sucking mints when I am out or in company or I spit in a cup if I'm at home. It's worse than gross.

ChateauMargot · 08/02/2012 16:29

Another one here hoping to go the cloth nappy route - Nappy Lady suggested Teddys for us, with Bumgenius as backup. Also rather like the look (and price) of the Bamboo pop-ins on the NCT shop site... agree, though, it's a minefield trying to decide!

Have just heard that our landlord wants to put our rent up by 13% so it looks as though we're going to be moving in April! Not ideal, but better than going when our lease ends (June 21 - yup, my EDD!) or paying massive rent for an extra six months before having to start looking all over again. Deep breaths...

SeriouslyStrongCheddar · 08/02/2012 17:48

Sorry I don't have time to namecheck everyone - off out in 10 mins!

Another one for cloth nappies here - Nappy Lady has recommended Teddys so I'm just waiting until I get paid a bonus in March so I can buy!

Okay, question for those experienced with babies - if baby has a bedside cot at home and we go on holiday when he's around 3 months old, will he freak out if he's in a travel cot or a strange cot where he's not at the side of the bed and can't see us on the same level? I know this is a bit far ahead, but I want to book a holiday for September and suddenly wondered how babies adapt to changes with their sleeping arrangements!

emblosion · 08/02/2012 18:13

Hi everyone,

Scan today was great, everything looks fine thank goodness - bump still smallish and have only been feeling slight movement so had been fretting a bit. Am feeling a bit more relaxed now and have bought some baby vests!

Our trust policy is not to tell you babys sex, so we are getting a surprise, we're both happy enough to wait and see so that's ok! However it does not make the name search any easier, still zero that DP and I actually agree on....

margot, ceej and mamma I'm also considering cloth nappies, have heard good things about bumgenius and motherease and also naturebabies? I'm actually thinking of going for old fashioned terry nappies - more of a faff to fold but I don't mind that really. I'm definitely going to use disposables for the first couple of weeks tho while we get into the swing of the whole looking after a baby thing!

Am loving the IKEA link also, yet again on my phone so can't scroll to see who posted it but thanks :)

Kveta I also feel like baby is kicking my bladder this evening - ouch! Really hope your aches and pains are not the start of SPD/PGP, sympathies to all that are suffering with it at the mo. I find my back has been getting quite achy, but higher up which is strange and uncomfortable.

Had a tour of the birthing centre at the MLU today after my scan, felt really reassured by the midwives. They are very nice and have signed me up to an active birth class in a few weeks which I'm looking forward to.

Oh, and now I really want creme eggs too! Has anyone tried the mini ones? Om nom nom....

Anyway, sorry to anyone I missed, hope all is well x

emblosion · 08/02/2012 18:19

Ps margot that is rotten of your landlord re: rent increase, how does he justify such a big hike? Hopefully you will find somewhere super nice to move to.

SSC glad you posted about the travel cot/baby sleeping thing as I have been wondering about this too as planning to go and visit family around September time also!

Miniangel · 08/02/2012 18:49

Hi Ladies

I've had my scan earlier and happy to report that all is well and the baby is healthy. I didn't realise how scared I was. The baby was busy sucking it's thumb. Initially we didn't want to find out but halway through DH changed his mind but the baby's position didn't allow us to find out. We are ok with that. The sonographer was quite nice and explained everything.Although we have another scan on 14th feb at the new hospital so don't know whether we will be able to resist finding out then.

Amethyst do give us an update soon.
Tea & Florin we are planning to go to the baby show at the end of feb too. Probably end up going on Sat.
