Can you get one sided contractions?

shonnomanom · 24/01/2012 19:09

I don't miss the bump but I definitely miss feeling baby move about in there. There is something amazing about it. Although snuggly cuddles are amazing and I wish every one of you ladies-in-waiting cuddles soon x

Fryn · 24/01/2012 19:30

No idea why I'd dropped off the details bit! Anyway, all added now. I would imagine that some of the earlier ladies must have dropped by now! (I certainly hope so!)

I missed my bump after having DD - only briefly though! The joy of being able to bend over soon overcame the missing bit...

The only thing I miss about my bump is that it didn't make any noise and need feeding every two hours! Smile

Me and DH are alternating staying up at nights, it's my turn tonight, we figure one of us might as well get a few hours kip in a row rather than us both being knackered! I'm hoping James is going to settle better at night before its back to work time haha Hmm

Unfortunately it means I get longer to indulge in the chocolate HobNobs whilst watching reruns on UK Gold... Smile

Karmanna · 25/01/2012 10:28

Morning all. Hope everyone's ok today.

I'm so sore after the sweep and I'm walking like John Wayne! Although nothing really happening - had a bit of a show last night and some mild contractions but they've all about stopped now. Still 3 days to get things going before induction on Saturday! Any tips bearing in mind my sore pelvis means I can't really move about and even bouncing on the ball is painful...

Karmanna · 25/01/2012 11:47

Wow, it's quiet on here today!!!

addictediam · 25/01/2012 12:18

Hoping that's a good sign for all the overdue ladies!
Sorry karma no idea what you can do with a sore pelvis.

Fryn · 25/01/2012 12:25

Apparently if you eat about 15 pineapples that might help! I don't want to think what it'll do to your stomach though... Hope you de-sore soon. Or that baby comes - that would obviously be the best outcome!

Eugh - so bored. FiL came round to try to sort out our dishwasher, but doesn't look as though it's worked. The horror of actually having to wash up is more than I can bear! And there really is limit to the amount of property porn I can watch. Looks like a trip to Ikea is in order. Sigh.

Karmanna · 25/01/2012 12:36

Addicted, yes lets hope so!

Fryn, :o at 15 pineapples - I heard that too, ridiculous isn't it. I've opted for some RLT and a clary sage bath. Think I just lost the remainder of my mucus plug so I really hope things kick off in the next day or so!

Boo for broken dishwasher! DH is currently my dishwasher but would be nice to have a real one!

xshevix · 25/01/2012 13:06

Hi everyone Smile hope youre all okay. got a midwife app at 2.30 might have a moan at her about how uncomfortble i am and how sore my spd is atm and see if she'll do a sweep haha. Had 2 texts and a phone call already today, getting annoying now.

BigHotMama · 25/01/2012 13:12

Hi ladies, I dtd last night hoping it might kick off during the night and I would have a baby on my due date which is today but nowt happening here either. At least it knocked me out and slept really well so it did do something.

Anyone heard from oiesha ?

I'm starting my baby diary today to keep me occupied Smile

Karmanna · 25/01/2012 13:23

BHM, I think Oeisha and Dee are either in labour or enjoying newborn snuggles as they've gone quiet! FX!!!!!

xshevix · 25/01/2012 15:29

Alls well Smile the mw said ill have a sweep next weds and am booked for an induction next friday Sad i hope she shows up before then, proper bummed out now haha.

addictediam · 25/01/2012 20:08

Xshevix sending labour vibes to you, hopefully baby will turn up on its own.

Having lots of movements very low down atm, very odd feeling!

supadupapupascupa · 25/01/2012 23:40

my waters have gone! just need some contractions now!!
so for the 2nd pregnancy my waters have gone gradually, and both times been told its not waters grrrrrrrr it bloody well is! no doubt about it and all confirmed this eve.
induction fri morning if nothing happens by then.....

xshevix · 25/01/2012 23:59

Aww yay :-) I hope they start soon for you x

BigHotMama · 26/01/2012 07:32

Yeah supa you know your body best, how on earth do they get it wring twice? Fx there's not long left for you now.

Let's hope to hear some birth announcements off oiesha and see today.

Had another good nights sleep after listening to hypnobirth app on phone I haven't got a clue what she says but it must really help me relax and drift off.

So not many left at all here now. I have got 11 overdue days to go until I'm booked in for CS as induction didn't work for me with ds so they prefer not to do it this time. Really want to go into labour naturally so can experience it but at back of my mind I feel it will end up with CS on 6th feb. Positive mental attitude needed is what I need and just want my baby and me safe.

Hope you ladies are all taking it easy now and just trying to enjoy last bit of calm before the madness x

Karmanna · 26/01/2012 10:04

Yei Supa, fx it kicks off today!!

BHM, are you opting for a hypnobirth? I thought about that but it's probably a bit late to start looking into it now...

I've got to go to hospital today for baby monitoring as doctor wanted to induce me before Sat but no room on ward. Only 2 days to try and get things to kick off naturally!

BigHotMama · 26/01/2012 11:08

Ooh good luck today karmanna I was told how good the hypnobirtthing CDs were and how they help relax you when your in pain, tbh I use them to get to sleep as mind keeps racing and preventing me getting to sleep. I just don't cope well with pain so am willing to try it but not sure if it will help when the time comes. I downloaded an app so its on my iPhone now for whenever I need to listen to it and relax. It sends me to sleep so I haven't got a clue what she says after about 5-10 mins Blush

ghosteditor · 26/01/2012 11:20

Just wanted to add that I used a hypnobirthing track during pregnancy and like the rest of you, mostly fell asleep! I also did pre-natal yoga and a bit of active birth prep.

I was lucky enough to have a completely natural birth with just the TENS machine (the baby helped by being in the right position, it was quite fast, and my waters only broke as I started pushing!). They kept offering me gas and air but I didn't want anything to break my focus. I used deep yoga breathing and some of the hypno visualisations and the distraction of the TENS machine on boost to get through the contractions and found that the painful bit of the contraction was over in three breaths, which is easy to cope with.

I didn't use any of the stuff I'd packed! No music, water spray, flannels, ice drinks, aromatherapy, nothing! But then, I was 8.5cm when I got in to the MW unit. Do be advised that if you're really going for it with the hypno and breathing they may underestimate your progress when you call up the unit - they didn't believe me when I called as I was still very calm!

(realises she was very very lucky with her birth experience)

BigHotMama · 26/01/2012 13:02

Very Envy of your story ghost sounds amazing, I really hope my body can do it as naturally as possible too but do remember being in total agony and crying at 3cm with ds so if this can help me deal with the pain of contractions I'll try anything. What did you visualise?

addictediam · 26/01/2012 15:02

Nothing frromoeesha or Dee?
Hoping they have both had their babies by now.

Karmanna · 26/01/2012 15:24

Wow, ghost, that sounds like the perfect birth - not sure I'd have the self disclipine to totally tune into something like that, especially not if I'm in pain!!

Monitoring went well, baby's in perfect position for labour so I'm hoping if nothing happens before Sat morning the induction won't be too horrible as it seems as though my body is ready. Having a few mild contractions already!

ghosteditor · 26/01/2012 15:35

I sincerely doubt I would have been able to keep it up for a long labour, but the breathing out and calm does help your natural hormones do the work fast. I visualised blowing up a balloon with my breathing out and then as the contraction waned I imagined it floating away. Very hippy dippy but it was suggested on the hypno track and really helped me. I was on all fours for almost all of the contractions too, which helps to open your pelvis. Having said that, only a few of the contractions were genuinely painful so I always knew that within a few breaths I could rest again. I appreciate that I was extremely lucky but I think if you can trust your body in the early stages then it helps the birth hormones do their work (with the proviso of course that the baby is in a good position, and no other complications, which is a big if!)

ghosteditor · 26/01/2012 15:35

Sounds good karmanna!
