Just wanted to add that I used a hypnobirthing track during pregnancy and like the rest of you, mostly fell asleep! I also did pre-natal yoga and a bit of active birth prep.
I was lucky enough to have a completely natural birth with just the TENS machine (the baby helped by being in the right position, it was quite fast, and my waters only broke as I started pushing!). They kept offering me gas and air but I didn't want anything to break my focus. I used deep yoga breathing and some of the hypno visualisations and the distraction of the TENS machine on boost to get through the contractions and found that the painful bit of the contraction was over in three breaths, which is easy to cope with.
I didn't use any of the stuff I'd packed! No music, water spray, flannels, ice drinks, aromatherapy, nothing! But then, I was 8.5cm when I got in to the MW unit. Do be advised that if you're really going for it with the hypno and breathing they may underestimate your progress when you call up the unit - they didn't believe me when I called as I was still very calm!
(realises she was very very lucky with her birth experience)
