Poor old Shon - not just one of them at it either!

I've had constant messages from my evil MiL asking if I'm 'alright' etc etc - basically code for have you gone into labour yet. i'M IGNORING THEM ALL AND i'M GETTING CROSS AT dh FOR RESPONDING. She will find out after he's born and not a moment sooner.

Oops, sorry about caps lock mess up. Nice MiL will be told when it kicks off, but she's nice, and normal, and sane, so I don't mind. When she sends a text asking if I'm OK I know she is genuinely asking after me. I wish I just had the one MiL and it's easy to guess which I'd pick.

shonnomanom · 05/01/2012 16:21

butterfly Thanks, and yes I would love a few days between today and my baby for sure.

Fantastic news giraffe, hope your both well x

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm dohnuts!

Oh ouch on the fall fryn

Sweeps It depends on the health board. Here the consultant can perform one at 39weeks but the community mw isnt allowed to do it until 40week has passed. And also your limited to 2. The mw said yesterday that if the 2nd didnt work it was unlikely a 3rd would.

Frilly if its important to you than it is importnant and they need to respect that Make sure you make yourself heard.

Thank you Ladies! And thank you fish
Its annoying in a normal 'nearing the end' situation but its just worse today because of the arrival of the twins. What makes it worse is that I got a text today telling me 'half jokingly; that i need to hurry up because there is a lot of birthdays in january! SERIOUSLY!!!

Oeisha · 05/01/2012 16:35

sho I'd have said something, I'm feeling very feisty today. Oooh, I could say something for you?! MWHAHAHAHA!!!
...if anyone wishes me to be increadably tactless and inappropriate with their friends/relatives on FB, regards a "fuck off, they'll come out when they're ready" I'm sure I can excell...

fryn Getting checked was sensible. Glad everything's ok.

I was threatening to not tell my parents when I go into hospital as I was that paranoid (still am really) that they'll just gonna pitch a tent in the carpark...but the email we sent the other night seems to have worked. FX...

Thanks to my late get up, I've just got out the bath/shower...needed to wash my hair (shower bit) and have the anesthetist tomorrow, so figured I'd get it out the way. And then figured if I was doing my hair now, and showering tomorrow morning (?!) I might as well have my usual evening soak in clary sage now...and actually DO something with the remainder of the day...so I suppose I'd better go sort washing...

MissRee · 05/01/2012 16:38

Ouchies!!!! Just had my sweep... on the plus side, I'm 1cm dilated, cervix is down to 1cm thickness and soft and baby is fully engaged Grin She did make me bleed... Errr quite a lot Sad

Feeling rather uncomfy but hopeful now!

DeeOfTheNorthPole · 05/01/2012 16:53

Hi Ladies - congrats to those already enjoying newborn cuddles.

Pls can I ask a very stupid question...I have a sweep booked for next wednesday and was wondering what to 'wear' ifkwim? At the moment I am using pantyliners in case of any little leaks (and cos I'm worried my waters will go somewhere completely inappropriate). Should I go along with a normal pantyliner in my knicks or nothing but take a maternity pad? I feel such a Blush for asking this but it's all I can think about!

God I hope everything just starts by itself before wednesday!

MissRee · 05/01/2012 16:56

Literally just had my first sweep and took a sanitary towel along in my bag. Glad I did as she made me bleed quite a bit and used a massive amount of lube Blush

fishandlilacs · 05/01/2012 16:56

dee wear your normal pants and have a pad at the ready.

DeeOfTheNorthPole · 05/01/2012 17:16

Thanks v much MissRee and fish. I'm sooo glad we've got this forum to ask all sorts of daft questions - I'd be lost without it!

fishandlilacs · 05/01/2012 17:22

Does anyone on here reckon that sweeps actually work? I don't think i have ever heard of anyone getting started by one in real life-but they must do mustn't they otherwise the MW would do it?

I had about 5 sweeps with dd I had 2 then MW gave me a nother sneaky one even though she wasn't supposed to then I had another couple when induced. It didn't seem to have any effect. I think i may start a chat thread about it just to up the focus group as it were.

tigana · 05/01/2012 17:28

They are recommended by NICE guidance, so there must be reasonable evidence that they work often enough to be worth it.
Would like to hear lots of nice stories along the lines of "had sweep monday morning, baby born by tuesday dinnertime" please!!

DeeOfTheNorthPole · 05/01/2012 17:30

I'd be interested in knowing fish. I said yes as I'm huge and very uncomfortable and am willing to try anything to get things started but then have read lots of comments saying that sweeps didn't have any effect.

Now I'm wondering if I should go ahead with it - I think I probably will but tbh don't really want to put myself through something uncomfortable if it's not going to be much use...

MissRee · 05/01/2012 17:31

A few of my friends went into labour the day they had their sweep but of course it may well have happened without the sweep, who knows?

If nothing else, it's good to know my cervix is softening and lengthening and basically "doing it's job" GrinGrin

DeeOfTheNorthPole · 05/01/2012 17:31

xpost with tigana. That's exactly what I'm after....nice stories pls!

Oeisha · 05/01/2012 17:53

Humm, just been sick. Felt like a sudden bout of bad indigestion and then BLURGH...just after DTD with DH too - poor sod's now paranoid it was something to do with that. I did take gaviscon at about 1615 as was feeling a bit grim, but nothing too bad. Now, is sudden vommiting something the MW would want to know about...Hmm Still no epigastric pain. No swellings... But still wiht the headache and flashign lights, which weren't too bad, but had gotten a bit worse about 20mins before...Hmm

And another 'weird' thing. I get this weird "pulsing" on left of bump. Kinda where Abi's back is (in theory). Doesn't seem fast enough to be her heart beating, or the cord etc, but could it be her 'breathing'??? Placenta seems to be left... If you put your hand on it, you can't feel it, but DH has seen it now and has made me think I'm not hallucinating.

sarahken · 05/01/2012 19:13

Can I join? Have had a planned section booked for the 2nd Feb since 12 weeks but they have put it forward a week to 26th Jan due to a low lying placenta :)

Oeisha · 05/01/2012 19:16

Welcome sarah Grin!
Here's our stats list.

BigHotMama · 05/01/2012 19:29

Congratulations to nanny and giraffe can't wait to hear more details! Thanks

My consultant wrote in my notes to have sweeps at 40 wks and then every 2 days to get me started and favourable for VBAC. But my MW said they don't offer them until 41 weeks so guess I'll have to hang in till then which could be 1st feb eeeeeek! I have heard rl stories from girls having a sweep then going into labour next day so for some itust work but didn't work with my ds.

Feeling really tired during the day and sleeping quite well during the night apart from when turning over and rearranging dream pillow.
Walking ds to school is killing my back and it's only 5 mins walk away but determined to do it to get me off my ass.

Re breast pumps I'll be using the Avent Isis IQ which I had with ds. You start pumping manually then press button and it automatically picks up the rhythm you want to use.

Started packing few bits for hospital bag today seems quite surreal doing it.

Sorry to hear about your fall fryn and glad your ok.

Am now thinking of doughnuts the krispy Kreme variety mmmm.

Feeling more pressure in the fanjo area and had few tightenings today making me wonder if they could be hb's? Almost feels like smurf wants to break out my belly? Like a tightening at top and bottomif bump at same time?

Good luck to ladies who had sweeps today and are we still waiting to hear from Green and Worm?

Keep smiling ladies as our babies will be here soon not too long now

X

Ohh! I can't remember if it was on this thread, or elsewhere, or just my imagination where it was mentioned, but apparently sore armpits/swollen nodules in armpit can be a sign that milk's coming through...Grin
