Happy new year everyone, not long for those of us that haven't popped yet!

WOOHHHOOO! Congrats giraffe Thanks and mini-girruff, welcome to the madness! Bear

Woke up at 1230. Obviously needed the sleep, but have now missed the sorting office window (postie was too lazy to leave with neighbours, or in wendyhouse like I asked...)

I've been getting intermittent cramping. MW said it was probably baby rolling her head about further, but it might be early signs. I had a very stong feeling in bed lastnight though that something had changed. Can't put it down to anything in particular mind you, so probably wishful thinking.

Capybara · 05/01/2012 13:16

Wow, a baby Giraffe! :) Huge congratulations!

Oeisha · 05/01/2012 13:16

Ooooh, if the kicks often feel like 'peddling' in the ribs, that's probably baby getting more engaged...apparently karmana so might not be all bad news. I've noticed buggerlugs does this occasionally.

Karmanna · 05/01/2012 13:23

Ooh, really? I thought he'd moved back up again - ok I won't lose hope just yet then. I'm back on my birthing ball with my RLT! :)

Oeisha · 05/01/2012 13:29

Grin no guarantees, but yeah. That's another thing I asked about at my appt (I was so pleased whrn I saw which MW it was, she's lovely). I put the apparent feeling like she's not as engaged to her just not sucking her thumb/trying to scratch the shit out of my innerds for a while. They can float a bit up, but not usually very dramatically if you're 4/5 engaged. Different story if 4/5 palp. But who knows, SIL went from 4/5 engaded to breech in about 2mins with her first, but she said it was really bloody obvious and uncomfy. Either way RLT and bouncing can't harm.

Bignorkz · 05/01/2012 13:37

Due date tomorrow, still no sign of the little blighter, period type pains I was having are now gone...kicks seem to be getting a little lower though...wishful thinking?!

And no, I still haven't packed my bag Wink

Capybara · 05/01/2012 13:45

You make me feel better Bignorkz - mine isn't 100% ready either :) HOWEVER, I did blow a ridiculous amount of money on a new nightie yesterday. I may be forced to wear it as a sundress after the birth, in order to justify the expense, but it is very pretty and practical too (easy to pull down in order to feed, red and blue paisley pattern unlikely to show leaks!)

Spagbolagain · 05/01/2012 13:48

giraffe congrats!!
Have just been to supermarket and given in to a chocolate doughnut. Oh well.

Pack that bag norks ! Or are you a spontaneous type? :o
I still haven't done loads of things. Like making a list of phone numbers, getting some pillows together, deciding on a name......

It can wait till after the doughnut.

MissRee · 05/01/2012 13:52

Hmmm my bag isn't 100% ready either. Have a feeling I'll be finishing it in early labour or just before I leave for induction Grin

fishandlilacs · 05/01/2012 13:54

I have just ordered my lakeland heated airer. :) Go me.

bored and fed up-wanted to play on my computer game (saddo geek emoticon) this aft but it wont load. Daytime TV simply doesn't cut for me-I have tried to watch it. Loose owmen make my teeth itch, I lve cooking shows but they are all repeats or americanised rubbish. I loathe JK and antiques or property shows.

and I can't find my raspberry leaf tea capsules anywhere.

I am so moany and wingey today. I may just have to start a fight on AIBU :)

tigana · 05/01/2012 13:57

Congratulations giraffe and good luck worm!

Due date tomorrow for me too. Just been to see MW and she gave me a sweep...urk, had forgotten how not-very-comfortable a sweep could be. Already "a good 2cms" dilated and soft, so I was feeling all hopeful... but having googled, any optimistic ideas about having a baby today/by tomorrow have almost vanished.

Bignorkz · 05/01/2012 14:08

Agree, daytime TV is shite, I love a bit of Jezza Kyle but haven't got up early enough to see it since I started mat leave Wink . Sky-plussed it for later though!

My stuff is ready for the bag (ish) I just haven't gathered it all together yet, i've probably forgotten summat! Bit concerned as baby's going home outfit looks tiny (its a normal newborn size), DH keeps saying "babies are tiny!" but I might end up packing another one just in case..... Hmm

DH and DF are upstairs putting a wardrobe and drawers together to finish the nursery so that leaves me with crap on the telly or Mumsnet as entertainment...Smile

I want a doughnut now. Not a chocolate one though, one with sugar and jam where you challenge yourself to not lick your lips before finishing it!! Grin

Bignorkz · 05/01/2012 14:11

My midwife hasn't mentioned me having a sweep, she just said she'd book me in for an induction 10-12 days after due date if nowts happened by next Tuesday. I take it that sweeping is not done as a matter of course then?!

Fryn · 05/01/2012 14:17

Congratulations giraffe and nanny, and good luck worm and everyone else in labour/about to go into labour/hoping to go into labour!

I spent a couple of hours in triage last night after falling flat on my face like a small child, and in puddle to top it off (oh the shame!). I knew everything was fine, but that nagging feeling I should get it checked out won in the end. The doctor was a little unnervingly overly familiar - the first thing he did was squeeze my thigh and then held my hand while he checked my notes Hmm Anyway, if he hadn't been as camp as a row of tents I'd have been worried! My hip is agony today though, and my knee bloodied and bashed - hoping G2 doesn't come early as I won't be able to kneel or do anything useful during labour if s/he does!

I also had to do a comedy running round shoving stuff in a bag in case they wanted to keep me in - so on the plus side, my bag is now half packed! Mostly with totally random and useless items, but still...

red I shall be calling that number after listening to what was going in triage - they didn't seem to have any ante natal or postnatal beds, so frankly home birth really does sound like the best option - at least I can provide my own mattress!

spag I have doughnut jealousy. A slightly green banana just isn't cutting it by comparison.

tigana 2cm is better than nothing (some poor girl I heard in triage last night had been having contractions every 5 mins for 14 hours and wasn't at all dilated - so think positive!)

Spagbolagain · 05/01/2012 14:21

Ooh the doughnut was nice. Highly recommended.

I think sweeps are generally offered from 41 weeks? They can do it every 3 days or something, so can try a couple of times before intervening further with medical induction. I will be asking for one next week if still no action.

fishandlilacs · 05/01/2012 14:23

OOof fryn oochy oo on your fall bless you x

bignorkz from what i gather a sweep should be offered as a matter of course. I have been offered one, almost everyone else on here has been too and i deffo had several last time with dd. It didn't make one iota of difference with dd as i was still induced and she was still dragged out in the end. You dont have to have one though.

ParsleyLion1 · 05/01/2012 14:25

Whoop whoop! Congrats giraffe Thanks x

ParsleyLion1 · 05/01/2012 14:29

Link to STATS list for whoever wanted it..

FrillyMilly · 05/01/2012 14:35

Congratulation giraffe

Oh fryn I hope you are ok. You did the best thing getting checked out as otherwise it would have been playing on your mind.

I've got my 38 week appointment tomorrow with midwife and don't know if it's worth mentioning I would rather my EDD go off scan (would make it 4 days earlier). I mentioned after my scan but midwife at hospital just said oh it doesn't matter. I think it does matter though if I go over 40 weeks as an induction could potentially be done when I'm nearly 43 weeks. I know that won't necessarily happen but I'm the type that needs to prepare for all possible scenarios.

Is it obvious when baby engages? It never happened until labour with DD. I've been feeling heavier down there and more pressure. Especially if I sit up properly. Kicks still off to the side but I don't think he has the room to stretch his legs up under my ribs. I've been getting popping sensations really low down too. Does anyone else get this?

Karmanna · 05/01/2012 14:42

Thanks Parsley - that was me!

addictediam · 05/01/2012 15:15

Congratulations giraffe, well done.

Fryn · 05/01/2012 15:40

Thanks for the sympathy, ladies - just what I needed! The worst damage was to my pride!

frilly - I think with the second one, they tend not to engage until you're actually in labour apparently, but if you're feeling pressure it certainly sounds as if bubs is heading south! Worth asking tomorrow about the sweep I guess?

shonnomanom · 05/01/2012 15:55

Permission to scream please AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone looked at my FB today? There should be rules that involve suitable comments that should not be said to an overdue pregnant lady when her sister has just gave birth early!

Oh im biting my tongue! Angry

Ok as you were ladies. Thank you.
Im going to go back and catch up on the days chat now.

tigana · 05/01/2012 16:05

oh shon sympathies. I'm not overdue yet and I'm already SO irritated by all the "any news" bollards DH and I are getting...as if one of us will suddenly look all shocked and say "Oh, well, crappydoodle, did we forget to you? The baby was born a week ago...gee, must've slipped my mind!"

fishandlilacs · 05/01/2012 16:11

soothes sho's brow with cool flannel and virtual beverage of choice xx

I know exactly how you feel only my sister is beginning to impinge on my due date now and i'm going to be resentful.

you and your sister have beautiful names by the way.
