Grin oops

Laura032004 · 20/03/2006 12:52

Diddle - I would concentrate on buying vests and babygrows, people always seem to buy outfits rather than the basics.

I've got about 20 vests and 20 babygrows (bought 2nd hand at NCT nearly new sale for about 40p each) in newborn and 0-3 sizes. I know that they're not in NB size for long, but at those prices, it doesn't really matter. You will be amazed how many they can go through (sick, poo leaks, wee during nappy change.....!!!), and you don't want to be continually washing! Personally I go for white so they can go on a hot wash and stay nice and clean.

Hi all
Have just got back from doctors- went to see about swollen feet- and he was more concerned about my breathlessness, and said it could be a DVT. I didn't even tell him I was breathless, he had just noticed. Does anyone else get breathless? At the NCT class they showed us a picture of the uterus resting against the lungs and said that this would cause shortage of breath, and as I'm so short, I just assumed it was that. Anyway, he's given me a diuretic to see if that works, and will monitor it over the week.
Hmmm, am bit worried now.
Laura- NCT classes really good, but very long! Fri night was 3 hrs and 4 hrs yesterday. We did a role play of a caesarean which was really useful- it made me feel a bit more prepared!

PomsMum · 20/03/2006 14:51

Just been to a home birth workshop run by our local NCT - all sounds good to me, anyone else thinking of going for/already had a homebirth?

slinkstah · 20/03/2006 14:52

im getting breathless too, its a horrible feeling but i think its normal. i felt baby kick my ribs for the first time on saturday and i jumped right up in shock and pulled my sacro-iliac muscles which killed!

i can't wait to go shopping, when should i get a pushchair? i have no ones elses house to store it and heard its bad luck to have it too early before baby born so when is the best time?

as for babygrows, i recon get loads especially if breastfeeding as baby poo is runny and escapes the tightest of nappies.
also my dd and ds were 7.7lb and were only in newborn stuff for a week or 2 so get plenty of 0-3 too:)

bubbly1973 · 20/03/2006 14:55

abbey, thats a coincedence you should mention about shortness of breath..i posted on the 'pregnancy' thread earlier asking just this..

i was soooo out of breath this morning, i cried myself with worry, and then an hour later, postman had been and theres a note from hospital regarding my antenatal appt, and the bloods have come back showing im low in iron

one quick call to doctors and i am now on iron tablets.

have you had your bloods taken to check for iron? i remember my sister in law being out of breath that she couldnt get enough oxygen and she insisted they check her iron level even though she wasnt in her 3rd trimester, reluctantly they took it, followed by an emergency call for her to get to surgery asap as she was very very low on iron!

have your iron checked out if you havent done so already and insist they do it! thats my advice Smile

bubbly1973 · 20/03/2006 14:58

slinkstah, are you just out of breath or do you get the sensation that it doesnt matter how deeply you breath in air it just doesnt seem to be doing the trick...a bit like if you were suffocating?

cos thats how i felt, and im low in iron...if you feel like the above, id get it checked out, however if you just feel breathlessness, then it could just be baby taking up a lot of space

slinkstah · 20/03/2006 16:22

it feels like no matter how deep i breath in its not doing the trick, maybe im low in iron too. i lost alot of blood in the cervical stitch operation i had 3 weeks ago but have been taking pregnacare regulary too so hope im not too low in iron.
they do bloods at 28 weeks don't they?

bubbly1973 · 20/03/2006 16:28

slinkstah, yeh thats when i had my bloods done, i will be 29 weeks this thursday, so lucky they did them

i too am taking pregnacare, but when i asked about this, they said that there wasnt enough in there for me to get my iron count back on, so i will be on iron tablets probably till after i give birth.

what you describe does sound like your low in iron perhaps worth giving your midwife a call?

bubbly1973 · 20/03/2006 16:30

by the way slinkstah, you could order your pushchair and have them keep it in the shop for you

thats what i did and i think i went looking and bought one when i was about 30weeks

dont forget, if they dont have the one you like in stock, it could take a few weeks to get one in, so dont leave it too late, then tell them at the shop you will collect it when you feel is the right time

bubbly1973 · 20/03/2006 16:32

i should add im sooo jealous at you first time mums who are buying all new, ive got all my stuff after ds so not buying anything Envy

slinkstah · 20/03/2006 17:02

thats a good idea about keeping it at the shop. i have 2 kids already but last one was born almost 7 years ago so have no baby stuff saved, its great buying all new:)
im not scrimping on this one either so all the stuff i buy now will last for the next one or 2 :)

I am looking for a bedside crib but seems no one sells one anymore, i thought a bedside cot might be too big as i have a small room.
im also not that impressed with the range of baby boy cot bedding available, im prob being far too fussy, but i like bright colours and can only find pale colours everywhere.

slinkstah · 20/03/2006 17:03

oooh and yeah i think i will up my veg for a bit and await my 28 week bloods which will be done soon.

Laura032004 · 20/03/2006 17:49

For anybody with low iron levels, you might like to ask at your health shops about iron tablet alternatives. I can't take normal iron tablets (they give me terrible constipation and stomach ache), so last pg I took spatone. This is meant to be much better tolerated by most people than normal iron tablets, and better at raising iron levels.

KathrynWales · 20/03/2006 18:09

I'm very breathless too...hadn't occurred to me about iron deficiency Blush I just assumed it was my baby's big bottom squishing my ribs... I'm taking Tesco's own version of pregnacare but haven;t had bloods done since 12wks... am due to see consultant next week though so will def mention it now...

The trouble with reading all your posts is that I end up diagnosing myself with all sorts Grin
Dr will probably say iron levels fine and prescribe valium instead to cure my neurosis!

bubbly1973 · 20/03/2006 19:30

lol kathryn!

laura thanks for tip on health shop, if these tablets dont agree with me i will definitly look into buying them.

slinkstah, i havent checked out the site, but have you looked at kiddicare.com?

infact i may pop to the site and have a look what they got even though i am not buying anything Envy

mrsbabookaloo · 20/03/2006 20:27

Two of my friends who had low iron levels took Floradix: I think the advantage of this one is that it doesn't make you constipated!.. I might be wrong, but it was definitely a nice natural one. Thanks for all this discussion; it's reminded me that I'm supposed to ask the GP to do my iron levels next week, as I'm seeing the doc instead of the midwife!

LilacBump · 20/03/2006 21:21

hi girls!

we painted the nursery this weekend and put all the baby things in it. it looks lovely, but still needs a new carpet. DP put up the crib we borrowed from his sister. it's by the side of our bed.

i am breathless too and still feeling faint often. i also get the stitchy pains in my bump and backache when i'm walking for too long without a sit down! my iron levels were tested this week and i'm waiting for the result. when i rang this morning they said the GP hadn't given them back yet as they had just come in that morning. so i will find out tomorrow. i had anemia when pregnant with DD and iron tablets helped with that.

now then... has anyone started (thinking of) packing a hospital bag?? i have... it's nearly all packed for me and i have a bag for the baby that's all ready. i wanted it all sat ready by 30 weeks, so i managed to do that :)

Im unsure whether to pack a hospital bag as im hoping for a homebirth, provided everything continues to go well i'll have it but i think i may need to do one just in case i do have to go to hospital.

I havent posted for a while as ive been stressed out with my daughters paternal family threatning to take me to court to get contact although they havent seen her for 2 years!!

Its not all bad though ive nearly got everything for baby just need a pram and a stand for my moses basket.

Im also feeling breathless think its the baby under my ribs, this one is definately bigger than dd.

Hope everyone is good, not long to go now. Grin

diddle · 21/03/2006 09:37

thanks for your buying advice, think i need to get out and buy some more baby grows and vests for baby, good idea getting the next size up too, thank you.

I am thinking of doing my hospital bag too, would be nice to feel organised. Better get packing.

I am getting breathless but not enugh to worry about i don;t think.

I am 28 weeks now and haven't had any bloods done since 16 weeks and haven't been told that i should have them, and i onyl saw the doctor yesterday. wonder if i should check. do we all need to have them?

LilacBump · 21/03/2006 10:33

diddle, i think it's a standard thing to have bloods checked at 28 weeks and (if i remember correctly what the midwife told me) again at 34 weeks to check for anemia, antibodies etc. i think i've also read it in the bounty information book i have.

i had tummy cramps, quite bad ones, for about two hours last night. at first i thought it was trapped wind or something but then i noticed they were coming every 5 minutes. are braxton hicks supposed to hurt much? they felt like real contractions to me!
