Hopefully no one else has done it while my phone is messing about!

oh great...............our maternity unit is closed Xmas Shock no room at the inn!! Next nearest is at least an hour away.

rednosedreindeerhead · 12/12/2011 21:12

oh god worm how long for?? Sad

rednosedreindeerhead · 12/12/2011 21:13

the state of maternity care in this country is getting a bit worrying IMO...

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 12/12/2011 21:23

They told us that ours has closed twice this year. But only because a special baby care bed wasn't free. I think ours are all 45 mins to an hour away if that happens Shock

Oeisha · 12/12/2011 21:36

fish and green congrats on the mat. allowance.

kittie eeek! Next week! Exciting! Grin

red I'd be demanding free shit some form of compensation off of mothercare if I were you!

Re: ironing, I'm a non-ironer too. Just don't see the point. Some sod's only gonna come along and bugger it all up again. I do iron my business dress, because I have to, but that's it basically. I am a little tempted tothrow the iron over the muslins I washed today as they accidentally got a bit baked in the dryer. Distracted by a cuppa with MIL!

Re: MWLU/closures, our MWLU is closing too, but then I'm not that surprised. Ideally they should be expanding it...but there's no logic in the "so over the next 10 years you're aiming to tripple the town's populous, yet you're closing services..." argument...
My only other 'issue' with the MWLU was that they 100% refuse to do any exams on non-term Mums, only basic antenatal care. Anything like headaches with flashing lights and they refer you to SH straight away, even though they have CTG just sat there doing nothing most of the time! Hense why I've had millions many, many trips to Stepping Hill hospital. They wouldn't even do the low-V swab for me last Monday, I had to do it myself - which really wasn't that easy, or comfy as it wasn't like I had any friggin chance of seeing anything.

rednosedreindeerhead · 12/12/2011 21:41

thanks oeisha we fought with them for a bit this afternoon and I think we're getting some vouchers, but only when the wardrobe finally arrives Xmas Hmm

Oeisha · 12/12/2011 21:54

red bloody cheek! I remember a similar argument on the phone with National Express at 1300 arguing with them that as I was stationary just outside Bristol I wasn't going to make my 1345 arrival in London Victoria and thus my 1430 connection (I very rarely got the connection insurance, but did that tiome for some reason)...to Milan...but I HAD to ARRIVE late in Victoria before they would compensate me. So, they were willing to fly me to Milan and put me up in a 4-star hotel for 3 nights whislt my coach party drove down, but wouldn't just pay for a taxi from the next town over to Dover so I could pick up the coach there. I'd push them for all they're worth. They should have had it reserved as soon as you ordered it...

GhosteditorOfChristmasPast · 12/12/2011 21:55

My mother habitually irons socks and was even known to iron the thongs I wore as a teenager Hmm - even when she worked. She also irons tea towels and irons things when they get put away and then again before she wears them!

Needless to say I didn't inherit the ironing gene and only do so with work clothes if absolutely necessary. Since DH is military he wouldn't let me near his shirts in a million years Grin

Wormshuffler · 12/12/2011 21:59

We have already lost the full maternity unit in this town. It is MWL now with no consultants or peadatricians or special care avaliable. The one I am supposed to go to with my complications is already 45 mins away! and tonight closed due to full capacity. So they closed our towns to all but second timers with no complications , yet can't cope with the additional patients at the nearest alternative. Ridiculous!!

SantaSHO · 12/12/2011 22:12

Oh fish those boots were on my short list!
Thats crap worm is it closed permanently?
Sorry to here about crappy Mothercare red

Re-packed Hospital bag to make sure its all there. Then wrapped a large amount of Christmas pressies tonight.

Q: Are any of you getting your exsisting DC a gift from the newborn??
Dd has bought the baby a teddy to give when they first meet.

I noticed this evening that my ankles are more like kankles now.
Not impressed.
I didnt get kanles until after the birth last time.

SantaSHO · 12/12/2011 22:14

Iron as I go. its the only way.

My cousin is forever moaning on FB about having spent the last 4 hours ironing. Get a Life. There is more important things to be doing.

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 13/12/2011 05:12

ghost - you're lucky. Mine 'lets' me do the ironing, then whinges if it's not up to his exacting standards, bloody cheek. Nearly swung for him on the way to his office party the other day - have you ever tried to iron a sea island cotton Turnbull & Asser shirt? It's a fucking pig. No wonder they charge £95 for them, you'd need that much money to afford the professional ironing service required to get the damn collars right.

Oh, and I'd like to point out that no,m of course I didn't spend £95 on a shirt. It was £4 in a charity shop still in it's plastic wrapper :D

Ugh. This sucks. I got up to pee, got back into bed tired, sleepy and actually comfortable for once, but could I sleep? Could I hell.

Oeisha · 13/12/2011 06:19

Same here cakes. Though DH forgot to bring up our wheelie bin last night and that's blown over at the end of the drive, and I can't stop thinking about it...mental.
Trying some ceral and then might give snoozing another go. DH should be awake by then to resolve the obviously massive wheelie-bin crisis and go to work (and stop ruddy snoring). He was awake enough to mutter something about me not moving the bin - so, fair enough.
Meanwhile Wingus and DIngus are now both awake and pestering me to be let out. Made worse by my eviction of a slug (via some BBQ tongs and me projectiling it out the back door), so they KNOW it's possible for me to open the door, I'm just torturing them. One's even tried playing with tree ornaments...

Oeisha · 13/12/2011 06:25

For anyone following xkatyx looks like something may be happening with her twins!

Oeisha · 13/12/2011 06:37

Or maybe try this thread. She's got 2 active threads at the moment.

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 13/12/2011 06:42

so she might be the first one to pop...

Oeisha · 13/12/2011 06:50

Good morning cakes!
EEEK! Just can't even imagine it. I seem to be getting more and more in denial about birthing/actually having a baby the closer it gets...not even all the nursery stuff and feeling the hooligan bashing me seems to make it concrete. FX for Katy!

addictediam · 13/12/2011 06:52

Morning all, Really bad night with dd again :( thankfully my cold is almost gone but I think i now have an ear infection (or rather the beginnings of one!)
We canceled our holiday next week, I am gutted and really sad as I was so looking forward to it, but know its the right decision for bump :(
Got 32 week mw appointment today (I see mw every 2 weeks from 28 weeks due to health issues, even before these regular contractions) looking forward to hearing bump again and finding out if there is still protine in my urine. Hopefully she wont send me to hospital.

Ironing - until 8 weeks ago dh and I ironed as we went, but then implimented a new routine with dd where I need dh to do breakfast with her meaning he now doesnt have time to iron work shirts in the morning anymore. So all I iron is 8-10 work shirts every 2 weeks! Everything else is done as we wear it (if its screwed up and were going somewhere special!)

I'll go and check out Katy's threads I think!

I think my little man is keeping me guessing as I feel what I can only describe as a hard cricket ball in my lower right hand side and another less hard bit top right hand side. However if any one can tell me what the squirming at the bottom is I'd love to know as I have convinced my self I'm having an octopus as he keeps changing position over the day!

addictediam can't believe you had to cancel the holiday I can only send an empathy hug I know you were looking forward to it.

As for me trying to pack hospital bag for tomorrow but hope my little person is head down and stays down so I can have a normal delivery and in a later to. Dh says he hopes he comes out this week but that's only cause he doesn't have to do what I have to do !

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 13/12/2011 07:29

Morning ladies Smile I'm working from home today as have a growth scan for the GD today. Moved into the spare bedroom again in the night but woken up by main alarm going off for ages. Had to go back in to bedroom to switch off alarm right next to snoring OH's head. Can't believe it didn't wake him - had to struggle my fat belly out of the bed to check he wasn't dead!

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 13/12/2011 07:32

Pants news on the holiday addicted Sad I suppose it is for the best though.

nanny I'm head down but get lots of movements at the bottom still I think it's hands.

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 13/12/2011 09:17

sorry to hear about that addicted, but you can probably relax more knowing exactly what the plans are, rather than wondering if you will or won't be going... and no packing to do! (Am trying to look on the bright side, I know how much you wanted to go)

I managed to go back to sleep at 7.30 until the cat woke me just now mewing on the windowsill again. Does anyone fancy a black fur hat for Xmas?

Wormshuffler · 13/12/2011 09:28

Oh no addicted that sucks, I know how much you were looking forwrd to it.......could you do something else christmasy, I don't know where you are but maybe a panto or something?

Sounds to me like the baby is heading in the right direction nanny I think the movements down below could be the babies hands up by their face like they love to do. FX for today. I have given mine permission to come either this week or up to tuesday next week, other than that I would like it to stay put until the new year and the elcs date. I have my elcs booking appointment on thursday.

The consultant led unit is open again, was simply no room in the inn!! scary stuff.

Wormshuffler · 13/12/2011 09:29

Oh and I now have "a pile" Blush

SantaSHO · 13/12/2011 09:37

Really sorry to hear you have cancelled your trip addicted . Rebook for next year, it will be much more fun with a 1yo running around as well. (trying to put a positive spin on it)

Hope baby is head down and stays that way nanny

worm do you have a back up plan in case they close again when your time comes?
It's terrible that this kind if thing happens so often. As if pregnant women don't have enough to worry about!
