Hopefully no one else has done it while my phone is messing about!

You know what? Even just typing that has answered my question. The pain is too bad and I'm going to call and be damned. If there's the slightest chance they can help I'm taking it!

Livened · 14/12/2011 06:44

Morning all - I'm up far earlier today as didn't eat much last night and woke at 5am with hunger pangs and baby kicking (can babies get hungry too?).

Started NCT last night and everyone is just so lovely so I'm really hoping to make some good friends for cake support after baby is here.

Hubby says it's nice to have some company this morning before work and I suddenly realised I'm probably going to be up this early every day in about 4 weeks time!

I'll try and have a nap later but I'm not very disciplined at that.

Have a good day :)

Makes I get a pain in my groin with my PGP. It shoots up the centre if that makes sense. I have to stop what I'm doing and it takes my breath away. I found it eased when I wore my support belt and was worse if walking. It's come back though and I think it's probably because of the pressure from the head.

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 14/12/2011 07:47

cakes yes that sounds like PGP pain but the physio might be able to help.

We're saying yes to vit K but no to the other injection. I would prefer them not to cut the cord straight away and wait for the placenta to stop working if possible. Depends how it all goes though.

Horrid experience last night. Worked from home for scan but had to get the train into London at about 5.30 as we were meeting friends for dinner. Trains were hideous as somebody had been hit by a train at South Croydon (their poor family Sad) I was lucky though and trains came along when I did and I got seats so I wasn't too worried just a bit late (and it was too late to turn around as no trains back).

All changed when I got to Victoria though. The concourse was rammed with cross angry people waiting for trains and they had closed all the barriers. We couldn't get out of the platform as the crowd wouldn't let us out. In the end a policeman had to come and escort us through the crowds. One poor lady was hyperventilating. I managed to hold myself together to get out of the station but then had a hormonal messy crying fit walking up Buckingham Palace Road and had to take a moment when I got to the restaurant. Luckily when I explained to OH what had happened he agreed that we were getting a taxi all the way home to avoid a repeat as I was a bit shaken.

DeeOfTheNorthPole · 14/12/2011 08:17

Sorry to hear about your trip parsely - sounds like a nightmare. I'm not claustrophobic but I think I'd have had a bit of a do if that happened to me - crowds can be a bit scary at the best of times.

Hope you've got through to the physio cakes - no point in suffering unnecessarily!

I've already finished my NCT classes Livened. I did find them interesting but by far the biggest plus was meeting other couples in the area. Three of them have already had their little ones - was to be expected I suppose though as our due date was the latest of the group!

Thanks for everyone's replies regarding the injections - all very interesting and have helped to make up my mind. Think I'm definitely going for yes to the vit k one and I'm now at a definitely maybe for the placenta one.

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 14/12/2011 08:22

Parsley - that sounds horrific, hope you're OK today.

I second what Parsley says about clamping the cord - unless they need to get the baby over to urgent medical attention or whatever then surely the best thing is to allow the cord to stop pulsing naturally, because if it's still pulsing then the baby must still be getting things it needs, right?!

rednosedreindeerhead · 14/12/2011 08:26

Green the thing about the cancers was on a sheet given to me the other day at my NCT class.. Confused I hadn't decided until I read that!! Will ask them about it on Saturday.

FrillyMilly · 14/12/2011 08:48

The link between vitamin k and childhood cancers was found during a very small study about 20 years ago. Recently several large studies have found no link.

ParsleyandChestnutStuffingLion · 14/12/2011 08:51

red they touched on it at my NHS class on Sat and afterwards I was thinking of not having it but Googled the studies and it looks to me like the studies that found a link may have used a smaller sample of babies with a generally higher risk and the ones that found no link used wider sampling (with much higher numbers). I'm therefore going with the stats.

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 14/12/2011 08:55

Thanks Parsley - that's reassuring.

addictediam · 14/12/2011 08:55

Sorry to change the subject ladies, but we have 14 posts to go Xmas Shock who's going to set up the new thread?

GhosteditorOfChristmasPast · 14/12/2011 09:06

Yy to what spag said re the syntometrin (scuse spelling, on phone) injection. I plan not to have it, but wanted to add two things: 1. Having the jab marginally increases your chances of retained placenta and 2. The jab is probably the innovation in childbirth that has saved more women's lives than any other single development. So, read up and think carefully!

Cakes that's def a PGP sign, probably a result of the relaxin getting to work on your pelvis. We're super unstable these days! I think it may be the SOAS that's troubling you, will be interested to hear. I'm having pain too so am being ultra careful and it's only troubling me if I forget to move carefully.
