Hopefully no one else has done it while my phone is messing about!

i thought we had to start quite early on with the massage for it to have any effect?

for me, no chance, i am struggling to wipe my bum as it is without complex massage maneuvers! and forget asking DH to do it for me, he's far too randy to be of any use in that department. Grin

Oeisha · 05/12/2011 22:11

Most guidelines I see for perineal massage say anything between 4 and 8 weeks from EDD, so was going to start Wed. Will see what MW thinks (whether I should wait for swab - doesn't feel liek thrush or anything like that though).
My DH thinks he's gonna find it sexy. Whatever floats his boat. As long as he gets the massage done, I'm happy to lie there and giggle until ot puts him off and let him have at it! Poor love's been a bit neglected in that area...

LetItSHOLetItSnow · 05/12/2011 22:28

Hi and welcome crosshair Is this your first pregnancy?

My birthplan goes as far as saying I dont want foreceps. But there is a high chance im going to be sectioned anyway so it wont be a factor.

Just found out my sister has been booked in for a section on Jan5th. So the race is definately on to see who comes first, her twins or my panda(who has been battering me today!)

Heartburn has been getting worse the last few days. Not amused, com

mum2be how are you??

Crosshair · 05/12/2011 22:31

Yep my first.

How exciting that you're both due around the same time. :)

SageandOnionStuffingLion · 05/12/2011 23:06

Back from hospital. All ok. Had all the usual checks and hooked up to the monitor. Squigglepants lived up to her name a bit, then got fed up and kept bishing the monitor, then settled for hiccoughs which threw all the readings so we had to start again. I then had to wait for the doctor as the MWs can't do the speculum thingy. She had been in emergency surgery for the previous 4 hours. The lady before me who had been waiting said 4 hrs to get the doctor to prescribe her an anti D injection was not amused. Anyway finally saw the doc about 9.30 after going in at 5.30. Cervix is closed and membranes and waters all still in tact. Just a LOT of normal discharge. +++ it says in my notes. Guess I'll have to start wearing liners to avoid embarrassment. She says I did the right thing to check it out as any odd change can be an indicator of an issue. I have to call if it changes colour or does anything else weird.

At least it wasn't wee Blush

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 06/12/2011 07:58

Oeisha - am using pure coconut oil as a) have loads of it from my soap-making endeavours in the past, b) love the smell and c) have used it 'down there' before so know it causes me no issues.

Done 2 lots of the massage now... both DH and I find it supremely unsexy and I even find it a tad embarrassing, and I'm not normally one who shies away from the spotlight in any arena, but to have your partner fiddling with your bits with very little interest is a bit weird... Plus it's uncomfortable, though less so the second time around, so I'm hopeful it will get easier, and I'd prefer mild discomfort now and avoid massive discomfort later!

good how to guide if anyone is interested

Woke up this morning to find Dh had switched on all the fairy lights we put up yesterday and turned on the Xmas tree - it was like a Christmas wonderland, I loved it.

Apparently my MiL wants to come and see us as soon as the baby is here - I was half tempted to put my foot down, but then I thought, actually, if she arrives whilst I'm still in hospital I can use visiting hours to kick her out pretty damn soon! I'd prefer half an hour early on than four hours when I'm back at home! Plus I can get my mum to come and stand guard ;) My MiL is intimidated by her (not that she'd ever let on) because she's 'posh' ... and my MiL most definitely ain't.

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 06/12/2011 10:49

Morning all,

and welcome crosshair-I forgot to wave yesterday-very welcome to the thread. www.nhs.uk/planners/pregnancycareplanner/pages/birthplan.aspx?WT.mc_id=070906 this website here has an online birth plan that you can download and fill in. My birth plan never even made it to the delivery ward last time, the folder got lost from where i was induced on prenatal to moving up to delivery, but it makes you feel like youre doing something! My consultant has written my birth plan on my notes this time and it's very simple:

VBAC with a C section agreed :

should labour not progress (4 hour test period for dilation if not satisfactory progress perform c section)
First sings of feotal distress perform c section
First sings of maternal exhaustion perfom c section
if labour hasn't started by 18/01/12 EMCS

Re perineal massage-it's good to start early but as this is my second I wasn't too worried. TBH it's only been a few days since the final decison was made as to whether my poor fanjo would be involved in delivery at all so that why I hadn't bothered. DH will happily do it, normally the words oily + bits would get him in a bit of a wriggle, but it's very unsexy and should actually stingy hurt a bit if youre doing it right.

My friend finally had her baby girl this morning, 8lb13oz natural birth at 4.32 am :) yays. Two weeks of latent labour, poor woman!

parsley i'm glad youre out my love-rest up xx

I'm lacking in stamina today, i have bought some shelving from homebase to sort out my understairs cupboard but i cant get going. Stupid thing is if i do do it then there enough room in there to store the pushchair which would be great. But after changing the beds and doing the laundry this morning I have run out of steam.

I feel like a jam doughnut, shame I haven't got any.

MakesXmasCakesWhenStressed · 06/12/2011 10:56

you don't look like a jam doughnut... ;) :D

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 06/12/2011 11:02

lol :)

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 06/12/2011 11:05

cakes i reckon if you put a blob of jam in my belly button and dusted the rest of it with sugar you would be too far off! It's about that round!

FrillyMilly · 06/12/2011 11:12

I didn't bother with perineal massage last time. I meant to but I just didn't get round to it. Had an episiotomy as DD was on distress so don't know if I would have torn (I hate that word).

Is anyone doing raspberry leaf tea? I had it last time and forced it down. I really don't like hot sweet drinks. It made no difference as my contractions werent very strong and I needed the drip to help things along. Just wondering whether to try again? Is it worth it if you've already had a baby?

Crosshair · 06/12/2011 11:15

Thanks for the link and example mulledfishandfrostedlilacs. :)

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 06/12/2011 12:08

does anyone who has applied for maternity allwance have a number for them to chase it up? It's been almost 3 weeks since my application went off in the post and i have heard nothing since.

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 06/12/2011 12:21

Not to worry found the number-application is in and still awaiting decision.

FrillyMilly · 06/12/2011 13:04

Just remembered when I was in labour having my DD my in laws phoned the maternity ward to ask for an update!! The person just said 'I'm sure you'll hear something soon'. I was mortified when i found out. Hospital were also very strict on visiting times. Dd was born early morning so had no visitors til afternoon which was nice as I had time to have a sleep and come round a bit. This time I'm down for quick discharge which means I will stay in delivery room so no visitors allowed. I have to say that puts me off a home birth. The thought of my in laws turning up whilst they are still clearing up the placenta!

SageandOnionStuffingLion · 06/12/2011 13:16

Forgot to say welcome to crosshairs yesterday in my general waiting about/anxiousness - sorry Xmas Blush and welcome Xmas Grin

addictediam · 06/12/2011 13:31

Fish have you still not heard? Did they tell you why a decision hasnt yet been made? How odd, I've had all forms back and sent off again and the first payment. I wonder why they are being so slow with yours?

miamamaClaus09 · 06/12/2011 13:44

Hi all, been to consultant this morning and they have booked me in for ELCS on Friday 13th Jan!! Xmas Shock good job we're not superstitious!! Xmas Wink
If I go into labour before then, they'll leave me to try for natural birth as long as progressing well and as long as baby isn't in same position as DD was in.

legs crossed til then!

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 06/12/2011 13:47

Mia snap! except my ELCS is on 18th. Good luck and hand holding available here. Scary times huh?

addicted I don't even want to think of the possibilty that it may not be approved. it makes me feel a bit sick tbh. They only got the app on 26th Nov though so actually not as long as i thought.

LetItSHOLetItSnow · 06/12/2011 13:49

Hope everyones Tuesday is better than their Monday was! x

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 06/12/2011 13:51

crosshairs Just realised you may not have worked out that parsleylion/aka parsley is currently "sageandonionstuffinglion" for xmas. I am normally just fishandlilacs, most just call me fish.

We refer to higgs bosuns when we mean braxton hicks because thats what my daft dh said once by mistake when he was on some very strong painkillers for his bad back. It kind of stuck.

I can't think of anything else that may be relevant to newcomers to help it all make sense on here.

addictediam · 06/12/2011 13:52

Ahh, that's not too long then, hopefully it will be approved soon and you will have all the forms back.
