New thread with updated stats, before the old one grinds to a halt at 1000 and we loose people! Plus its running so slow it barely loads for me :)

emblosion · 13/01/2012 14:24

Hi everybody, just been for my 16 week check and heard the babys heart beating away :) it was great, really reasuring to hear it. I guess it really depends where you are whether they use the doppler or not?

Midwife was nice, thank goodness, although she did say she was having a nice quiet day so wasn't at all rushed! She prodded around a bit and said from where the uterus is she thinks I'm actually about 18 weeks, so a bit further on than I thought. I won't bother changing my due date til i've had my next scan tho, as prodding around is pretty unscientific...

Anyway, off to work now, sorry havent had time to read and catch up with everyone's posts, but hope you're all having a good day!

Florin · 13/01/2012 14:27

It was me who talked about the pillow mine is a dream genii and is currently my most precious possession it is wonderful.

Dh has had to change my 20 week scan so now it's going to be 5 days later on 13 feb which seems like forever. However as a compromise he has booked us a gender scan next Wednesday! I am so excited I just can't wait to see what we are having no way I could have waited until the birth. Not sure we are going to tell people in real life what we are having though. Will decide after scan.
Everyone at work was commenting on my bump today saying how now I look definitely pregnant which really perked me up!
Can't wait to start buying stuff, we are looking our for a crib on eBay. Once I know the sex I think I will treat myself to buying one outfit. Can't wait to properly starting to shop!

itchyfootedlady · 13/01/2012 14:51

anyone else getting realy sharp, shooting, ummmm... 'fanjo' pains. Been getting odd low down cramping last few days and these sharp pains. It keeps making me wince out loud in the office!

MorningHasBroken · 13/01/2012 15:03

itchy I've not had anything like that; had pains in my abdomen which my SiL (who's a GP) has said are just the uterus stretching and muscles being moved about. Could your pains be similar but muscles much lower down?

milly will see you at the POW or in Pontyclun before that I guess!

I will have to ask the midwife to let me hear the baby's heartbeat whether they're nice to me or not - sounds too exciting to miss out on! DH is adamant that he doesn't want to know gender before ours is born (I don't mind knowing or not so figure I'll go along with his wishes)... I have to take my excitement where I can!

Hope you've all got good weekends lined up xx

Kveta · 13/01/2012 15:08

just a quick one - back from anomaly scan, all seems well (although baby was lying badly, so have to go back for heart and face to be re-scanned!).

Anyway, it appears that this one is ! So DH and I are both going Shock and Grin and 'where will we put her?!' Told my parents it was a boy without a winkle, and both went 'oh. OH!' when they twigged :o (we are BIG Blackadder fans!!). As they have 2 grandsons already, they are quite thrilled!

Now we need to work on names...

Florin · 13/01/2012 16:02

Congratulations on your little boy kveta

Bibblebobbleparsnip · 13/01/2012 16:51

Hooray!!! I got to hear baby today! Midwife got it straight away, but faintly, then baby moved. Then she found it again and it was so strong! Even got to hear a little kick (but felt nothing) I can't wait till I'm feel g the constant reassurance of those kicks & wriggles. Next appointment is the big scan at 20 weeks, going to feel like a long wait...
Sorry not to have responded to any others thoughts here- have some serious catching up to do!Hmm

Helssjbells · 13/01/2012 16:54

Hello ladies, big waves to all.

Thanks so much for all your messages, I feel lots better today. My foot still looks pretty ugly and swollen but at least I can now walk...I think my inlaws were a bit taken aback to see me crawling....My MW phoned yesterday and she said it's completely normal to get paranoid and think that there's something wrong with LO - for any Mummies to be, who are suffering, she also said that headaches, stomach ache, backache and generally feeling lousy is also COMPLETELY NORMAL. I guess for those of us who are first timers, our bodies are undergoing oodles of change with tons of hormones running about - and we've just not been used to it before!

Ceej - Gosh your glucose test sounds like an endurance test...I think I'd be on the ceiling after a fast and then a bottle of Lucazade. Great news about your phD....will you be a Dr by the time LO arrives?!

Emblosion - I'm glad I'm not the only worrier on here, I think the gout has really thrown me! My 20 scan is on the 3rd of Feb...is that 5 days before you? Though I'll be 21 weeks by then. My MW said we shouldn't be worried, particularly if all your blood tests and previous scans have been ok. (Apparently they've diagnosed problems at the 12 week scan before)

Fingers crossed that we'll all be starting to get kicks soon!

PS. I will get even more podgy now as I've just devoured a whole Toblerone...

Helssjbells · 13/01/2012 16:55

PPS Kveta - congratulations!!!

Kayzr · 13/01/2012 17:31

Kveta congratulations on your girl!!! I haven't watched Blackadder in ages and I really have got too!!!

10000fireflies · 13/01/2012 18:02

Evening all!!
Mini and Mama I thought OBEM was amazing too. I think it?s the best out of all the series/episodes. All of the women were inspiration in their own way and I wept buckets watching. Heather, the designer, with the special birthing ( Grin) outfit was incredible and had the birth I?m sure every woman dreams of. There have been about 88 births on OBEM and hers is the only one like that, with apparently no pain. I think a small baby helps!! I?d love a water birth ? have always liked the idea. Am part way through HTBAGM ? fascinating stuff?. Does not feature ?normal? Mums at all though!! Placenta smoothie anyone?
Oh, Itchy, that is a bit of a freaky dream!! Glad to hear you?re feeling a bit better after a dose of Laxido (BTW, have you seen the thread in AIBU today on Poo-ing? You might want to join in. Grin) Seriously though, sympathies with the severe constipation and glad to hear you?re feeling better. I?m sure the Laxido won?t have harmed baby at all. You haven?t put on any weight? That?s a good thing. Less to lose in June!! I am already collecting diet and exercise articles as I will have a long hard job ahead of me, but now is not the time to worry about that!
Chateau I?m sure everyone has times when they don?t feel preggers. I do.
Morning - I don?t think anyone gets strapped to the bed in the UK (I?ve heard they do in the US), but if the baby?s heartbeat and your contractions are being monitored you can?t walk to far away from the machines. Haven?t got a birthplan together as such but it will be as flexible as possible in case I can?t take the pain!!
ceeej did you get the results before you left? Tests sound horrible. Am not looking forward to mine, booked for week 28. Still, is better to manage GD than not.
Milly - hope you will chose the birth which is right for you rather than DH. Unless he is planning on doing the difficult bit for you??!! Grin Have a wonderful weekend with your best friend and her baby. V Envy as there is nothing like cuddling a LO.
Emblosion and Bibble yay for hearing the heartbeat. It?s the best isn?t it??!!
Itchy haven?t had the sharp shooting fanjo pains you mentioned, but have been getting the cramping feelings. Suspect latter is baby moving. Doesn?t sound good if it?s making you wince out loud though.
Kveta great to hear anomaly scan all good so far. And congrats on having a winkle-less boy!!!
Hells mmmm Toblerone....Mmmmm. I've been enjoying M&S giant choc buttons today.

Little of note from me today, and I doubt you want a knitting update!!! Meeting friend tomorrow for spot of rambling, followed by chick flics and gossiping, while DH's go to boat show. Then a fish supper (ie fish and chips from the local chippy) for dinner. Have a great weekend everyone.

ecstatica · 13/01/2012 18:31

:) on finding out respective sexes!!! Soooo exciting for you :)

Have caught up on all news, phew that was some catch up! Hopefully will be feeling better over weekend and some time to reply.

17 days till me scan date! Yawn...

Florin · 13/01/2012 19:32

Hope everyone enjoying their Friday evening, I am knacked and working at the boat show all weekend and then working all next week. Have agreed however with my bosses to work shorter hours of 11-5 rather than the full day of 10-7. Just tried on my new polo I have to wear for it thank god I asked for a much bigger size as it only just goes round my tummy-no hiding this baby in anything I wear now. Shows how much I have grown as tried the sizes on when I was 8 weeks pregnant and the 10 was perfect, now the size 14 is just fitting round my bump! starting to get worried I am going to have a huge baby!

Dalrymps · 13/01/2012 20:14

Congratulations kveta!Grin lol at a boy without a winkle!

rhibutterfly · 13/01/2012 22:06

Hi all was well happy a few weeks back when nausea and teeth brushing sickness disappeared only to resurface this week, so unfair!!! my 20 week scan in 2 weeks but time is draggin so fast i don't feel as if i'll ever get there, it's not as if i'm not keeping busy what with being single mum to six year old dd and in middle of moving and working full time xx but it'll all be worth the wait xx

ceeej · 13/01/2012 22:50

yay for all the heartbeats heard and LO's revealing their winkles (or not) and Florin how exciting that you get an extra scan soon. I've ordered the dream genii pillow, really hoping it helps as I can't get properly comfortable on my side any more and keep waking up on my back.

My bump has suddenly appeared, literally over the last two days, so I've been on a maternity clothes online shopping spree, am very excited about new clothes.

Itchy fanjo pains sound uncomfortable, I've only had the lower abdomen stretching type pains, guess there are muscles around there which could be stretching too.

Glad your foot is improving Helss. Strangely my sugar 'high' only seems to make my brain and heart race, I don't get physically hyper, though when I come down I do get really sleepy. And yes, I should be a Dr by the time LO arrives, 2012 is going to be pretty memorable!

I just caught up on OBEM, loved this week's episode and I got weepy for every baby, am definitely going to get my DH to watch it, the fathers were all fantastically supportive.

Fireflies your weekend sounds idylic, I've got to write most of the weekend but we are going to the Hand and Flowers for Sunday lunch with friends, very much looking forward to it. GTT results are being sent to the GP on Monday, fingers crossed it's all OK but I would also rather know and manage GD, particularly given the risk of a huge baby.

butterfly gutted that your sickness has come back :( I really hope it clears again soon and you get time for a little rest soon.

Kayzr · 14/01/2012 04:34

Grrr I've got another sore throat and I can't sleep because of the coughing. I'm so tired Sad

Kveta · 14/01/2012 08:50

oh no kazyr, poor you :(

butterfly my sickness has returned too, it's grim, isn't it? i've learnt to put vics vaporub under my nose during nappy changes now though which helps!!

ceej good luck with the writing - in a way, pg should really help, as you have a natural deadline now. my best friend took 18 months to write up Shock but has just got a fab postdoc, so it was worth it for him! however, you have the incentive to write up much sooner! I graduated when 6 months pg with DS, so we joked he should get an honorary doctorate :o we have photos of me in my gown with a HUGE bump which is funny!

thanks for the congratulations re: XX rather than XY. DH is so chuffed to have a daughter, i'm really pleased for him! Shall we put genders in the stats if we know them? i'll update mine anyway, as my due date is wrong at the moment.

Can I join the 'podgy and doesn't feel very pregnant' club too please? :) I just want my bump to look like a bump and not just too many pies!

Don't worry ChateauMargot, I have also been very lucky and pretty much symptom free. But it does make you worry that something is wrong doesn't it. I still don't really believe I've got a baby inside me, even the scans don't seem real to me. I am hoping to feel the baby move soon as I think that is what I need for reality to kick in! I'm 17 weeks today so hopefully sometime soon.

ceeej · 14/01/2012 12:52

Kveta your bump should definitely have got an honorary doctorate too :)

Amethyst if its any help I was definitely just looking podgy a couple of days ago then the bump suddenly morphed, I was 18 weeks yesterday

Just booked DH and I onto a red cross first aid for baby and child course, we've both done basic first aid training before but thought it would be good to know what to look out for with little ones.

AmethystMoon · 14/01/2012 18:15

Thanks ceeej, I'm 17 weeks today s maybe a proper bump isn't far off!

Congrats kveta, I can't wait to find out what variety I've having...then I start shopping yipee Grin

thedogwalker · 14/01/2012 19:21

Hi all, it's taken me ages to read all the posts. I cannot recall who has said what, but I have a birth plan which I had for DS. I will post nearer the time, hopefully it will give you some idea what you want in yours. They can be as detailed or not, just as you prefer. Not that mine is a pefect one, just I'm sure a few of us will post ours from our first births and you can then pick and choose the bits you wnat. That's how I got mine, the kind of ladies of the August 2010 thread, all worte theirs and the novices borrowed the bits they liked. The hospital, stuck to mine rigidly when I had DS and I was pleased as I got what I wanted. With regards to not feeling the LO kick, if it is your first LO then maybe you don't realsie what you're feeling. The kicks at this stage aren't big hoofing kicks, they are more like a little pitter patter feeling can be mistaken for wind. So I bet lots of you you don't think you've felt the LO move have actually felt it and not known. I didn't know first time round either. Hope I'm not teaching anyone to suck eggs, not meaning to preach, just thought I'd try and pass on the little knowledge I have Blush. Hope everyone is well.
I've been busy baking all day and DS is full of cold and so he has been wanting cuddles most of the day, not got much else achieved but at least the baking is ready for my guests tomorrow. Take care all xx

thedogwalker our dd is 3 days apart, and like you I can feel baby kicking about in there. I've certainly found it more obvious this time around - though there is certainly more wind going round in there too at times Wink Baby is certainly more active when I'm relaxing, and they certainly make sure I don't sleep on my stomach any more.

I love watching one born every minute. Its fascinating to see how everyone reacts to the experience. Have to stop myself bursting into happy tears as baby handed to mum and dad for the first time. I will always remember looking into DD's dark little eyes for the very first time, so beautiful, so proud, so relieved she was alright.

First time round I was a quiet one, no screaming, but who knows what I'll be like this time!

I had my birth plan all written out in my notes, as instructed, but when it came to the event it seemed to get overlooked. As soon as the midwife had a look at me I was laid flat on my back, told to push, with some gas and air - no change of positions, nice music etc. This time I'll give some thought, but won't be surprised if things work out quite differently in reality. As things went quite well - 6 hours - I'm hoping for a home birth, but its early days.

ecstatica · 15/01/2012 08:18

Morning all,
Someone recommended the Dream Genii pillow, I just ordered one hoping that I'll get a better night's sleep.
If anyone is lacking in iron I'd like to recommend Spatone, it's just great. I was neither able to keep iron tablets or the Floradix down but the sachets in a half cup of fruit juice are working a treat :) My m/w advised me to keep my iron levels up as much as possible to avoid blood infusions again. I feel better for it too.
Anyone else have a scan end of month?
