Hello, hope you're all doing ok. Thanks for all the messages on my foot....I did go to A&E and I've got pregnancy related gout - which is agony. I'm now home, propped up on the sofa, trying not to think about the pain and any damage I may /may not have done to the baby. I've got to take paracetamol every four hours, which I'm a bit weary about it....has anyone else taken paracetamol? Is it ok?

Anyway girls - if you're not already, get drinking oodles and oodles of water - I thought I was doing ok with putting orange cordial in water but the doctor said it's a complete no, no, and you honestly don't want to get this! xx

SpecialJK · 08/01/2012 20:17

rrayray I feel for you and headaches. I've had a constant one since Friday night. called the antenatal ward this morning and said it was too early in the pregnancy for it to be 'pregnancy related' and I needed to call the out of hours GP for stronger painkillers. I wouldn't take them anyway so didn't bother to call. I never get headaches until I was pregnant. Anyway, sods law since I called it's gone away and not come back. I have the midwife on Wednesday so I'll mention it then.

I've started on prunes today. tried the juice last week but it just made me sick instantly. The actual prunes are much nicer!

Florin · 08/01/2012 20:31

helssbells you poor thing, hope you are feeling better soon. I am taking your advice and have large glass of water infront of me with a slice of lime in it. Hope the lime is allowed!
Bought some maternity jeans at the weekend it's so lovely to have something that fits me properly make me feel much better about myself.
specialjk good luck with the prunes, I find dried apricots do the job and are quite yummy!

millyv · 08/01/2012 20:32

Ooh hells hope you're ok, it's something I've been worrying about as been drinking tea, juice, lemonade and water but apparently we should be on 2litres of water a day, on top of anything else- I think my bladder would kill me if I drunk that much! Just sat here with a pint of water.... I'll be up all night!

Off to watch wild at heart in bed now- night ladies! Xx

Kveta · 08/01/2012 20:33

can't remember who said insomnia upthread, but mine is not improving, and GP told me she can't prescribe anything except light exercise to help me sleep. grr. apparently if I had hayfever she could give me antihistamines though, so has said I can try a wee bit of zirtek/piriton (cetirizine) occasionally to see if that helps. not loratidine though as it's non-drowsy!!

has anyone else had braxton hicks yet btw? mine are quite strong, didn't have any last pregnancy!

hope you're all ok after a relaxing (ha!) weekend, will be back at work tomorrow then hopefully will find a bit more time to read prior posts!!

night night!!

violets · 08/01/2012 21:00

I'm 17 weeks tomorrow, and have had prolonged headaches that last a few days sometimes. The only pain relief you are advised to have when pregnant seems to be paracetamol, so I've been popping them as per the instructions. Had the same problem last time.

Gout sounds really nasty - ouch! Good cartoon on the wiki gout page.

violets · 09/01/2012 04:43

Why am I still awakeAngry

SeriouslyStrongCheddar · 09/01/2012 06:55

Morning all!

Helss - that sounds awful, you poor thing.

Milly - I really struggled with my 2 litres a day in early pregnancy which was weird as I always drink it, but am back up to managing it now. If it's any consolation, your body does adapt to drinking so much water and after a few days you won't be spending all day on the loo I promise!

Well, the telly stand was constructed surprisingly easily yesterday, fits perfectly and the TV looks fab. It's quite funny actually 'cause DH thought I was mad getting a 55" screen and thought we should go with a 47" but now we've got it he absolutely loves it! My argument was, if I'm off on maternity leave over Wimbledon and the Olympics, and watching a bit of telly through a fog of exhaustion, I want to enjoy it!

Also, we won the cot on ebay! Yay! Get to pick it up next Saturday - it's a Mamas & Papas Close & Cosy bedside cot that looks big enough to be used as a cot bed once baby moves into his or her own room. Next bidding will be on second hand grobags - bring on the bargains!

Got my 16 week appt with the midwife this afternoon - although I'll be 17 weeks tomorrow! Only thing I'm stressing about is if she wants to weigh me as I know I've put on quite a bit of weight so think I will refuse (politely) if she does want to. I really don't want to have to worry about weight - although I know I've put on a bit more than I should, it's because I've been eating to combat the nausea but now that seems a bit better, I'm readjusting back to a more healthy diet & have bought a pregnancy yoga DVD to try so would like to just carry on without having to worry about betting a ticking off for where I am now!

Anyway, hope all those with insommia get some sleep, all those with headaches get some painfree time and everyone has a good day!

Kayzr · 09/01/2012 09:44

Morning,

Hells that sounds horrid. I really hope you're feeling much better soon.

DP has a taxi booked for 10 to 4 tomorrow morning. I am dreading him going to work as DS2 was distraught yesterday and all DP did was pop to the shop.

DS1 has impetigo and needs to have at least a week off school as its highly contagious. So he's fed up.

I've booked the repeat scan for Thursday afternoon. I'm hoping that the baby is going to be a bit more helpful so we can have some nice pictures.

Hope everyone is ok. Smile

Helssjbells · 09/01/2012 10:15

Morning all, thank you for all your messages, it's been a long night (I hadn't planned on getting no sleep at this stage!) walking's a nightmare so at times I'm crawling to the loo - my DH and I only got married in September (it's a honeymoon baby!) oh, how our life has changed!

Kveta and Violets - if you need to take anything stronger than paracetamol, we can take co-codamol - my friend who's a GP, and mum of 2 migraine sufferer told me - and it won't harm the baby.

Hope everyone else is all ok - I'm sure all this stress will be worth it!

Dalrymps · 09/01/2012 10:58

Morning ladiesSmile

Aww hells sounds like you're really suffering. Hope the pain eases soon..

I'm not doing too bad lately. Sickness finally gone thank god so I can enjoy food again. Although, I do occasionally get a bit of a dodgy tummy for no apparent reasonHmm

I cooked fajitas for us last night, haven't had them for ages and I enjoyed them
Soooo much YUM!

Sorry I'm not very good at keeping up with what everyone says but I post from my phone so can't see the other posts when I'm typing.. I am reading along thoughSmile

I should be back to work after 15th Jan. Dr gave me a generous sick note over Xmas.. I'm dreading it a bitSad my sickness is gone but I get tired very easily and it's such a physical job, running up and down stairs constantly, lifting people around etc I just hope I can cope with it. I think I've got the start of sciatica in my back/ leg too so I hope it doesn't activate that.. I wish I could find something a little less strenuous to do till I go on mat leave. It's hard to find p/t evening work like that though.. I can only really work evenings as I have dc2 all day and ds1 only has nursery in the aft which I pick him up from. Harrumph!

Dalrymps · 09/01/2012 11:01

aggravate!

Florin · 09/01/2012 12:18

kayzr good luck with the impetigo, I had it as a teenager and it horrid also gave it to my twin and dad. Watch out for the puss in the blisters as apparently that is the infectious bit.
Hope everyone having a good day!

Kveta · 09/01/2012 12:38

Dalrymps yay for eating food again! I am having the odd day now where I feel sick all the time, but mostly am ok. Smells still setting me off quite badly, last night DH farted just as I walked into the bedroom, and I had to run back to the bathroom to throw up. He thought it was hilarious Hmm I didn't. Also, DS has decided to start using his potty, and for some reason the sound of emptying it makes me chuck, so it'll be a fun few weeks/months!!

kazyr good luck saying goodby to your DP, we had tears from DS this morning as DH is back at work today. He'll be home by 8pm, but DS will hopefully be asleep by then, so won't see daddy until 4 am the morning, and it's the same all week. god knows how you (and TDW) cope with prolonged absences, I'd be a wreck!

Florin god, your MIL sounds like a nightmare! she should meet my parents Xmas Grin told mum about my bleed/hospital visit and she said 'yes, you're not a natural mother, are you?' WTAF?!! (I mean, I'm not, but fuck it, she's not exactly the pinnacle of mothering success!!). anyway, WRT cotbeds etc - we had a trvel cot for a few weeks (as we needed it anyway for travelling) and got a cotbed 4th hand from my cousin, which is still going, but may need glue to hold it together for a 5th child to use it!! the only bit we were really worried about was the mattress, as that needs to be new really (or used by you already, but not 2nd hand from unknown folk, or stored in the loft for ages - fungal spores are not a good combo with newborns!!). Some people I know had a moses basket in the cotbed to start with, as ther baby looked so tiny in the cot bed, but we didn't bother because of DS's deep hatred for the basket.

Helss hope you feel better soon, gout sounds OUCH! and thanks for the co-codamol tip, I will stick with paracetamol for the time being, but will bear other options in mind!!

SSC best of luck getting grobags! remember you'll only need the 0.5 tog for 0-6 month age, and we managed with 2 (wash one, wear one) until DS was 10 months and wouldn't use them any more!! they are expensive, but we found them so so useful. Especially as we had a child who loathed being swaddled.

sorry not to manage a fireflies like post to everyone Xmas Grin

back at work this morning anyway, grr. I like my job normally, but am hating this pg so so much, and was quite liking having DH around, and just pottering about over the holidays. oh well, I get to use the loo in peace now, so that's one bonus.

we had great news from FIL last night - he was planning to visit for a weekend in April (why then?!) and I said to DH 'how about he comes for longer, in June, to be back up child care for DS?' and FIL has agreed! he still only wants to visit for 3 days, but I am working on him coming for 10 days over my due date, as my CM (who will be looking after DS when I'm in labour) is away until June 8th, and my due date is the 5th, so DH and I had agreed that I'd just go to the hospital alone whilst he looked after DS. Thank god that now need not be the case, as I was dreading it. Got a consultant appt tomorrow to discuss my weight and birthing plans, and I will be explicitally stating my intention to be drugged up to the eyeballs again this time, preferably before I've been in labour for 2 days. I asked DH which he'd go for if he had to go through child birth - c-section, epidural and potential forceps, or drug free (as pethidine and g+a do not agree with me). He said either of the options which involve not actually feeling the birth Xmas Grin I asked if he'd think less of me for demanding drugs, and he said not at all, he's still quite amazed that I'm willing to do this a second time after the last time!! so we're on the same page, anyway Xmas Grin

right, must work, then order some maternity trews, as I have 1 pair that keeps falling down, and 1 pair that make me sick by pressing on bump (weirdly, last pg they were the other way round - the pair that fall down made me sick by being 'over the bump, and the other pair sat nicely under bump, but not this time!!)

Warlin · 09/01/2012 12:43

Hi All

First day back at work. :( I also think my big boss (CEO) is being really cold to me (since I said I was pregnant). He keeps wanting meetings without me..not sure how much is paranoia but feel like they hate me at the moment. He hasn't even said congrats yet, yet I know he knows.

Welcome hels hope the foot ok! Sounds sore! I don't drink nearly enough water, I know I don't. Need to make more effort! :)

Florin how rude of your fil's wife....just ignore them. In- laws can be frustrating. MIL starting preaching to me yesterday about how I need to not spoil the child and make them cook and clean from an early age....bit my tongue :o

Kayzr hope you ok with Dh going away....

Dogwalker well done on keeping things together on your own. 5 weeks isn't too long. Will Dh be here after the birth or will be have to leave again?

Found out yest that a girl I used to work with is pregnant with twins...but she has no partner or husband...has obviously used a donar. Brave decision!!! Shock

seriously glad the move went well. We have a viewer tomorrow so need to tidy tonight!

Hi to everyone else.

Miniangel · 09/01/2012 13:06

Hi Everyone

Sorry for having disappered these last 10 days. We moved on 28th Dec and only got internet today. The move went well and we are now fully settled in our new home. I didn't realise how much difference the move from a 2 bed flat to a 3 bed house would make. We have so much space now.

It took me a while to catch up on the thread but have read every page I missed. Had my 16 weeks appt last week but the baby was moving so much that mw only heard the heartbeat for a sec. I didn't hear the heartbeat at all.She did reassure me though that all was well.

I tried going to work on 3rd Jan but had to sent home in a cab as was sick and shaky. Feeling better these last couple of days but the sickness and tiredness still prevails.

I have to think about moving hospitals etc and with no internet everything was so difficult.

Millv Have voted for you. What a lovely pic. I am trying to drink more these days but am far from 2 lts still.

Ecstatica and fireflies thanks for remebering me a few days ago.

Welcome hels and hope your foot gets better soon.

Florin your step mil sounds like a real piece of work. Do ignore her.

thedogwalker · 09/01/2012 14:55

Hi all
SSC I love grow bags, my DS is 16 mo and he still uses them, so far it has stopped his desire to climb out of his cot Grin.
Mini well done on the move, bet that is a relief to get it over and done with. hope you enjoy your new home. Here are some Thanks to put in your new kitchen.
Warlin, thankfully DH is due home on 16 May and he will then be home for good, well it should be 2 years at least until they make him go away again for 6 months.
Helss, glad you went to A&E, hopefully it will get better now.
Well I'm knackered today, finding it hard to concentrate at work, all I want is my bed. I could fall asleep on a washing line, I feel that tired and I'm sleeping at night. During my last pg, I got low blood pressure, which caused me to be tired, which I think is happening again. Out of all the things that I could suffer with, I think it is the lesser of all the evils, so I should count myself lucky.

Hope everyone is well, take care xx

Kayzr · 09/01/2012 15:16

TDW I am knackered too despite now sleeping all night. I feel like the walking dead!!

ellybett · 09/01/2012 15:31

Afternoon all, welcome helss and violets. Glad you're ok kveta. Thanks for the advice about the water helss, I have been drinking more but still probably not enough so have redoubled my efforts! Sending hugs kayzr, hope your boys are ok! DH only works ten minutes from home and I still end up clock watching!
millyv will vote for you now, good luck!
SSC you sound so organised with your home improvements! We've been trying to decorate our spare room for DD since September but just keep stalling, neither of us like DIY so we really need to just bite the bullet and do it. Want her settled in it before the baby arrives as she's in the box room now and really needs more space (and so we can move her toys out of the living room, which she calls the play room, grr!). We're trying to get as many changes out the way before June, got rid of the dummy over Christmas, started the potty training in earnest now, (hopefully the sickness has calmed down enough to let that happen) and then it'll be into the big bed in her new room, eek!
On stuff to get, we did have a moses basket for the early months which was handy as we could transfer from downstairs to upstairs. But we only used it for 3 months so I wouldn't recommend spending loads of money on one. Also grobags have proved essential as DD didn't like swaddling and is still in one now (at 2 yrs 4 months!). We were guilty of over buying for DD but who can resist the first time around Smile!
Had my 16 week mw appt today which was very straightforward. I have a very lovely and persistent mw who managed to find a good clear heartbeat so I'm massively happy as was going through a slight non-pregnant feeling period!
How are cravings going for people? I'm definitely having them for vinegar flavoured things (salt& vinegar crisps, gherkins, pickled onions) plus yorkshire puddings! Can't stop thinking about them!

Kayzr · 09/01/2012 15:39

Elly I am really craving sour stuff. I am drinking loads of bitter lemon and eating lemons and limes. I've got quite a few packs of sour sweets too. Also loving pickled onions but I love them all the time.

I am glad you've heard the heartbeat. Smile

Warlin · 09/01/2012 16:33

My latest craving is Mauds ice cream....sent Dh on Sat night at 8.30pm to get me some.....was very surprised (and delighted) that the shop was still open! Think he was the only one there on a Jan night in the pouring rain :)

Have also been craving cheese and onion crisps.

Also had some camembert cheese last night while entertaining Mil....totally forgot I wasn't supposed to have it!

I'm slightly worried about my tuna intake...as a non meat eater I'm a bit restricted when it comes to lunches and keep ordering tuna in things! Hope it's ok

elly glad you had a heartbeat.

min some flowers for your new living room (since you already have them in your lKtchen :) Thanks

SpecialJK · 09/01/2012 18:44

Hells whats this about not putting orange cordial into the water? I've not seen anything written

Prunes are great - yay! And headache has still gone.

My craving is lemon curd yoghurt from sainsbury's. I bought 4 yesterday. trying to limit myself to one a day! mind you elly now you've mentioned yorkshire puddings I fancy them too Smile

ecstatica · 09/01/2012 19:13

Warlin -- sorry to hear about your boss and FWIW I don't think you're being paranoid but neither do I think he hates you, just being offish maybe as he thinks he's losing a great member of the team. It takes nothing to say congratulations, (my own FIL couldn't bring himself to) so no skin off your nose eh? :) Fingers up I say.

TDW - Hope you get yourself a good night's sleep. My DC stayed with their grandparents and I managed to make a trip to Ikea followed by 9pm bedtime!!! Honestly, 9pm bedtime with no kids around, grrrr! May will be a wonderful time for you, hat off for getting by the way you do. Have had a good few months on my own without OH and just the DC and it toughened me up :) Became very independent, but I wasn't PG -- again, hat off to you :)

Miniangel Glad to hear you're settled, well done. I was in the early months when we moved and I found it exhausting -- I never want to move again. What are your thoughts on work? I'm sorry you feel so poorly, I have every sympathy as I am the same and my apparent Sphincter of Oddi Diagnosis is wearing me out.

Re co-codamol -- I have been prescribed boxes of the stuff by my GP. He said they'd be fine in pregnancy and I have no other choice but to take them. I am taking them as often as is allowed until we scan my liver/duct again.
Hells Sorry to hear about your gout, i honestly feel for anyone who has any ailment on top of pregnancy. I can't drink much water as it makes me vomit but I certainly drink lots of lemonade and ice/fruit juice mixed with lemonade and some other drinks of the carbonated variety ;) All my DC were healthy, bouncy boys :)

SSC -- WoW at 55inch screen!!! I treated myself to a 37inch smart telly and still think its too big!!! Sounds cinematically great!

Kveta Good back up plan! Glad FIL could make it when you needed him most. I like it when things work out that way.

I know I've missed a few of you so here I am waving [big wave] -- Florin/Violet/Special K/Ray...

FWIW I wake up at 3-4am and can't get back to sleep for ages. usually my pain is so severe that i have to wait for co-codamol and hot water bottle (for my back) to do their respective jobs. Worst part is trying to get the DC organized and taking them from class to class on our busy days! No maternity leave there though!

When you guys doing new thread?

KatyJ26 · 09/01/2012 19:19

had my scan today - yay! I had no reason to think anything was worng, but still breathed a massive sigh of relief when I saw all was ok! Didn't find out the sex (deliberately) and because he/she was being a bit awkward, I have to go back in 2 weeks so she can do heart measurements. It was kind of upside down and not willing to move, but all measurements she did take were fine. Picture is not especailly good, but I don't care! And I now have an extra scan in 2 weeks - hurrah!

Haven't got time to comment on individual posts at the mo, but will pop back soon and have a proper read - just wanted to share my good news with you all!

shellywellybaby1 · 09/01/2012 19:22

Hey everyone!! Just wanted to say hello and congratulations to everyone - i am due 23rd june with my 1st so just having a read through and spotting lots of common factors i seem to have with people haha! Hope everyone is feeling well. :-)
