Has anyone else found the 16-week appointment a little anti-climactic? Urine test, blood pressure, a quick chat about how I'm feeling... and a categorical refusal to check for heartbeat based on NICE guidelines (this is at UCH in London). And now to wait another month before the next scan - aargh!

Florin · 05/01/2012 19:41

chateau bad luck about not getting to hear the heartbeat can imagine that was a bit of anticlimax. Are u feeling any movement? That is what keeps me going keeps reminding me something is very much alive in there!

Kveta · 05/01/2012 20:01

I'm still not sure if the movement I'm feeling is actually baby, so am really panicking that I'm not actually pg anymore. Gah!! anomaly scan next friday so will have to hold out until then.

also managed to do my back in yesterday by coughing, so have spent 2 days nearly fainting, breaking out in a cold sweat, crying, and generally being feeble! poor DH! he's been lovely, telling me to lie down whilst he has dealt with DS. back getting less excruciating now (can lift a cup to my mouth for a start, massive improvement!) but grr! crappy couple of days.

i don't want to go back to work on monday :-/

ceeej · 05/01/2012 20:06

Chateau I did think mine was a bit 'you know the drill now' but did get heartbeat checked, seems insane not to give you the reassurance if you want it :( I can't feel movement yet, really hoping I do soon.

SpecialJK I've been having very restless sleep despite being exhausted when I go to sleep, DH says I've been tossing and turning and thrashing around a lot. Not helped by the fact my bladder has thrown the towel in already and I keep having to get up for loo trips!

10000fireflies · 05/01/2012 21:01

Evening all!! Yes, Chateau, know exactly what you mean about 16 week appt being a bit of a let-down. Had mine today and came away wondering whether that?s it. Still, it?s a good indication that everything?s ok if you?re not referred for further care. And FFnorm, seems like you felt the same way about your 16 wk app too.
Welcome SpecialJK and Brighton
Elly sorry to hear the sickness is back again. Hope you?re feeling better soon.
rrrayray/Special - did you take anything for your headache? They say the sooner you take the painkillers the shorter the headache. Paracetamol should be ok. I?ve also used 4head which has been quite good, and Origins ?Peace of Mind?. I?ve had a few headaches, but think that might have been part of a very mild cold. I think headaches are a common complaint in pregnancy. (Great, eh??!!)
Florin - Glad your appt was good and you heard the HB. Is magical isn?t it? MW at my appt today said I?ve got a little tinker in there, as it kept moving around so she couldn?t pick it up for long before it disappeared off!
Special - Am not sure about how the choice of hosp works. Can your GP advise? How long does it takes to drive those 9 miles in rush hour? I was offered 3 hosps. One near a football stadium and I?ve heard of people getting stuck in traffic!! I?ve gone for the nearest. Did some research and it seemed good. MW appts at local GP and scans nearer home too which helps, but now worry a little as there has been some bad press recently?. Decided to stick with it ? plenty of neighbours have been ok with their recent births there.
Kveta I bet you can feel the baby really, you?re just caught up with feeling a bit crappy. Hope your back gets better and the cough clears up soon.
I have got the OBEM bug now and am catching up on all the series on OD. I couldn?t watch it until now as I never thought I?d be having my own baby. Get all teary when the babies arrive!! (Must be the hormones!!) I will pick out the best one for DH to watch as part of his homework!!
Ceeej , and everyone else not getting much rest/sleep, wishing you a restful 12th night. Xmas Smile
Sweet dreams everyone! xx

Florin · 05/01/2012 22:14

fireflies mine did the opposite after midwife gave me a long warning that it may take a while to find etc she put the Doppler on and got it instantly and it stayed there so she let us listen for a while. Not sure what baby though of it as was extremly active for a while after!
ceeej I used to be a heavy sleeper but now wake up so often especially as i have to get up at least once each night to pee then after that my mind goes into over drive so I either have nightmares or just spend ages thinking. Very irritating I want a proper sleep!

ChateauMargot · 05/01/2012 22:15

florin Nope, no movement felt yet - I'm 16 weeks exactly and this is my first, so a bit early still, I think. At least, that's the line I'm sticking to for now!

fireflies So you had your 16-week check today, too! Did they listen for a heartbeat at yours? Seems strange that some places will and others won't...

10000fireflies · 05/01/2012 22:57

Florin had a MW appt at 14 weeks too and finding heartbeat then was exactly the same as with yours.

Chateau - yes, MW got the doppler out. Seems a bit mean they wouldn't do it for you. We did get our own doppler (DH was getting paranoid), but they're expensive if you want a semi-decent one, and TBH, I wonder if we're listening to my HB rather than the baby's!!

Kveta · 06/01/2012 08:20

just woke up and have some bleeding, so am going PANIC!!! have to wait until GP opens and give them a call to see what to do next. Not overly optimistic tbh, gut feeling says this will not be a good outcome. Fingers crossed though.

10000fireflies · 06/01/2012 08:42

Kveta is there an EPU you can get to? Keeping everything crossed for you.

FF xx

Kveta · 06/01/2012 08:46

just waiting for a call back from the GP, as we have community care here (no local hosp).

nice last day of my holiday!!

Kayzr · 06/01/2012 09:02

Kveta I really hope it is nothing to worry about. I have everything crossed for you! xx

ceeej · 06/01/2012 09:35

Oh no Kveta how scary, hope the GP gets back to you quickly, I'm keeping everything crossed that it's OK x

millyv · 06/01/2012 09:51

Oh no Kveta, I hope you are ok, you seem to have been in the wars lately, hopefully you will get seen by a doctor soon and they will be able to reassure you. I know it will be hard but try and rest up/relax before your appointment. Fingers and toes crossed for you! Keep us updated!

I'm really not sure I should make this request now after Kveta's news as it all seems meaningless now but just incase any one fancies helping! Our wedding photographer entered us into this local wedding of the year competition, we really didn't expect to get very far but we are through to the final! The prize is an all expenses paid luxury weekend away (which would be lovely before June), it's really easy to vote, there is no registering or giving details up it's literally follow the link and then press vote for Emily and Mark, you can vote off your phone, home computer and work but somehow you can't vote more then once off the same computer. The link is www.yoursouthwaleswedding.co.uk/woty_vote.cfm?GI_WOTY_ID=881 we'd really appreciate any votes that you can offer! Also if anyone has any tips for getting more votes that would be fab!

Thank you all in advance for voting and KVETA I really hope all goes well!

Xxxx

Dalrymps · 06/01/2012 10:45

Oh Kveta this must be ever so worrying for you. Fingers crossed everything is ok. Thinking of you xx

MammaInTheMaking · 06/01/2012 11:39

Kveta I really hope it all works out for you and baby.

milly i just voted :)

Dalrymps · 06/01/2012 12:33

milly I have also votedSmile

Kayzr · 06/01/2012 12:36

milly I've voted for you!

SpecialJK · 06/01/2012 13:00

just got a letter through the post for an obstretric appointment with a consultant on the 1st March. Not sure what it's about really. I have previous history of fibroids so might be standard that the midwife has requested it from the booking appointment, but when I was at 12 week scan it showed they hadn't grown and were still quite small. I'm hoping it's not because they've found something else when doing bloods etc? By 1st march I'll be 5 months. Anyone else had this?

millyv · 06/01/2012 13:33

Thanks for the votes everyone - please pass it on to as many as you can!Wink

SpecialJK I've already had a consultants appointment, apparently I have a funny shaped uterus, or thats what a previous consultant had told me although they haven't seen any proof on the last 2 scans I've had. I'm still on the consultants books though - think they prefer to be overly cautious! I wouldn't worry about it, all I did was have a chat with mine! I'm due back to see her in April so they can't think there is much wrong with me!

Xx

Florin · 06/01/2012 13:43

kveta got my fingers and toes crossed for you hope you get scanned soon and all is ok xxx
millyv I've voted for you-good luck!

SarahBumBarer · 06/01/2012 14:10

Happy New Year everyone!

Kveta hope all is ok with you. Fingers crossed.

Milly - have voted

I just wanted to say re any heartbeat/dopler anxiety that the MW's here have stopped using them at antenatal appointments because of the stress that they cause when they (frequently) can't find the heartbeat. So don't let doplers panic you!

itchyfootedlady · 06/01/2012 16:46

Firstly Kveta I really hope you post soon and tell us all you are ok :( thinking of you and all my fingers crossed xxx

I've been in Scotland for the holidays with no internet... just snow and family. Quite nice tbh! Back at work since Wed though which stinks. Only 4.5 months till MATERNITY. yay!

millyv voting done. lovely pic btw! you only got married a few weeks before I did - are people asking you if it was an accident getting pregnant so quickly? I didn't think it was that quick but some of my friends seem to!

Chateau I'm at 15.3 and no baby movement at all here. Florin I am very jealous! when did you first feel it? Also no midwife appointment until 19 weeks as was all booked up. Am blindly assuming all is ok now and just hoping it works out. Am getting bumpy so at least that makes me feel a bit more comfortable thats something is going on, even if it is only excessive bloating and still some major constipation:( lactulose doesn't work. Just gives you mini trots with no real result. Love maternity jeans from H&M though... their grey skinny maternity cords are the most comfortable things i own now.

Have finally stopped throwing up though and feel like a new woman! Have cooked and cleaned this week and since Tuesday when i woke up feeling so much better I have been hungry and horny :) DH is loving it and praying it lasts. Also been having massively weird/erotic/irish dancing themed dreams recently. All very odd.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend and that you are ok Kveta

Bibblebobbleparsnip · 06/01/2012 17:04

I have no idea whether I've gone about this in the right way, but wanted to join the June 2012 group. I'm due on June 30th with my 3rd, but have also had two (early) miscarriages so am a bit apprehensive about it all. Scan at 12weeks was perfectly healthy but can't help but worry until I'm feeling regular movements (I'm 15 wks tomorrow so bit early still). Can some one point me in the right direction? Sorry to have piggybacked onto someone else's thread...

Kayzr · 06/01/2012 17:09

Bibble this is the June 2012 thread and you're more than welcome to join us. Sorry to hear about your miscarriages. I had an early one about this time last year and this pregnancy has been much more nerve wracking.

I've got my scan tomorrow morning. Can't wait to see the baby and I really really hope they can tell us the sex. It'll be nice for DP to know before he goes to work.
