Hands around a mixture of V-shaped pillows, pregnancy pillows, and re-arranges the glittery vom buckets ready.

Gets the jelly snakes going, along with some Cadburys for good measure, and a strategically placed fruit bowl to disguise the unhealthy choices.

Flicks the duster round, sinks down into a comfy sofa and awaits the rest...

Go Hawthers!

I'm not sleeping very well either muscical and dream - preparation for after the birth I guess at least! DH is already in the spare room poor sod.

MILs can be so annoying! FIL was the more annoying of my PILS with the 'boy' comments when we found out it was a girl than MIL actually. MIL is really, really rigid in her ideas of dealing with babies but is really rubbish on chat about birth weight, names etc so bonding over babies is difficult with her.

I have taken to calling the bump 'Abby' now so name pretty much decided over here! dream just start talking about how Sebastian is more wriggly than the other bean or something a lot and let it filter through.. :)

JenFestive · 06/12/2011 20:58

BiscuitsandteaforSanta?

Crap I know but I tried...

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 06/12/2011 21:03

Hi people!

Broccoli, congratulations and welcome!

Dream, I wish I could see movement through my bump, but there is too much padding. Blush Bean has been break-dancing or something today though.

On the sleeping thing, I lay awake for ages last night fretting about not having a name for Bean yet. I just can't think of one that DH also likes. It's really bugging me now!

We have mice too. Stupid snow driving them indoors! The estate carpenter is supposed to be coming to seal up lots of holes around pipes and things, so I hope it helps if he ever turns up.

Loving the landing comment, Biscuits! I would love to have the guts to say something like that, but fear I never shall.

Scan on Thursday - eek! Starting to freak out about Bean's kidney problem now. I just want it to have gone (the problem, not the kidney). She's been so active it can't be anything too serious, right? Good luck, Meconium and Jaggy for your scans!

Bloody dog is ruining my Christmas shopping - he got into my bag of presents while we were at work and ate some chocolates I bought for DH! Really nice Charbonnel et Walker strawberry truffles chosen so I could have some. Xmas Angry Xmas Sad Had a bit of a shock at the bank balance today too. Oops!

RealLifeIsForWimps · 07/12/2011 05:35

Hi All

Yes, gender comments are kind of annoying, but often I think people are just thinking of something to say to act interested (although that excuse cant really be applied to MIL's) My MIL is pretty chilled so I'm lucky in that respect. This will be her 4th grandchild, so I think she's over getting hugely excited Xmas Sad. So far she's got two boys and a girl. I think this one's another boy. Dh thinks definitely a girl.

I have the weirdest pregnancy symptom which is that I am convinced I can smell the cat litter tray all the time, even though when I go to investigate, it's fine (i.e. does not smell even from 1 metre away, so how can I smell it from the other side of the apartment??)

Also, I got a little snarky last night as was decorating the Christmas tree and it just felt WRONG to do it sans a nice glass of wine. Got v depressed about sober Christmas, which I know is sad and pathetic/ borderline alky

Other than that, and me bankrupting myself daily on Amazon in the name of Christmas, not much happening

Seeing Obstetrician next Tuesday- yay! 6.5 wks by then so hopefully she'll manage to get a heartbeat.

Biscuitsandtea · 07/12/2011 06:47

Oooh I hadn't realised we had another scans this this week. How do we manage to bunch them up like that?

So Too how many weeks will you be? This is the follow up for the kidney check right? I bet bean has the best looking kidney ever. Fact.

Jaggy / Meconium how many weeks are you each? I'm so lost with everyone! Are you both 20 weeks? Or 12 and 20 respectively? I'm hopeless at remembering everything Xmas Blush

I've got my next mw appt tomorrow, which isn't quite as exciting, but will be nice to see how it's all going.

Biscuitsandtea · 07/12/2011 06:47

Sorry scans should have said scanathon, which my iPad really should recognise as a word by now!

TheLittleFriend · 07/12/2011 08:58

Morning everyone

I hope we won't get any comments on gender from my mil as she has 4 grandchildren of each sex, so she shouldn't care what this one will be!

Can I ask you all a question to try and ease my paranoia please? I've been getting lower back pain since yesterday. Nothing bad, and no spotting or anything, but I am worrying as I always do. With my dd all the early stretching / implantation pain was at the front. Did any of you get lower back pain early on?
Thanks!

pommedechocolat · 07/12/2011 09:58

I have had lots of cramps at the top of my legs and bum area little throughout the whole of this pg. I think it's because I laboured with dd back to back so she's damaged all my nerves!

Did you get backache last time? Things flare up so much earlier second time round!

tilder · 07/12/2011 10:17

Not just MIL though - when I told my mum her reaction was 'oh'. She was telling me at the time that I should have offered all our baby things to DB and SIL (who are expecting their first iminently even though she knew we were trying) and I had to tell her why we weren't handing anything over. Think she feels that we are stealing their limelight Confused because naturally that is why we tried for over a year to have a baby. She is still not overly interested, I guess because this is our third and she is trying to win best MIl award for DBs first. Seeing the MIL struggle from her side does make me realise that you can't really win in that position. Although some comments are inexcusable (imo).

little am not sure I can help either - I just tend to get random twinges. Did get pain around the place I get ovulation pain with my first (which combined with bleeding made them suspect ectopic). How many weeks are you?

scarletfingernail · 07/12/2011 11:32

Little I had backache frequently throughout the early weeks. In fact I still get it now and again. Mine felt like period pain type backache which was obviously worrying. Like you, I didn't experience this at all during my first pregnancy but thankfully everything is fine, as it also will be for you.

I get on with my In-laws reasonably well. It's not been without it's ups and downs over the years but we're now pretty close. Sometimes MIL says something I find irritating and I do tend to rant about it to DH, but at the same time I know I've irritated her in the past and my own Mum can be a bit annoying at times too Grin. MIL asked me about the gender after my 20 week scan. I told her we'd not found out but that the scan photo was identical to DS's 20 week scan photo and my gut feeling was another boy. She said "It doesn't matter as long as it's healthy" which I hope she intended to sound like it doesn't matter either way as long as it's healthy, but wondered if she meant it doesn't matter if it's a boy as long as it's healthy. It does annoy me a bit that people automatically seem to assume that anyone who has a boy must be hoping for a girl the next time. I'd be overjoyed to have another little boy, especially if he's as cute and funny as my DS.

I'm having a lovely morning chilling out eating pain au chocolat and wrapping Christmas presents. The calm will be over soon enough though when DS gets home very shortly. He was so full of energy this morning, I warned the staff at playgroup they were going to have their work cut out with him today. Hopefully he'll be nice and tired and ready for a nap when he gets home Hmm

NinjaChipmunk · 07/12/2011 12:08

hello! Sorry for the lack of acticity recently but have been busy with RL. And the in laws are down from tonight till sat so looks like i'll be gone again for a bit.

Hello brocolliI remember you but can't remember where from? Where you on have's it's annoying thread or on lissielou's hut of gloom?

How is everyone else. I haven't had time to catch up properly except to see hawthers is still here and still pg (yay for both number of weeks and weight!). We are going to tell DS and the in laws tonight so hopefully that will go well. And my booking in appt is next on (finally) and my 12 week scan is thursday next week, I can't wait! Still veering in between scared and excited, I just need to see it and know its ok I think, then I'll calm down slightly.

Good luck for everyone having scans and appointments, I will try to check in when I can but I know we're going to be super busy for a while.

GenericDietCola · 07/12/2011 12:26

Hawthers love the Christmassy name change!

Musical glad you are feeling more movement now, but sorry to hear about the bad sleep.

Too I am brooking no argument for a good scan for you tomorrow. You've had a really tough time (understatement) so surely you are on for a good scan and a healthy baby.

Real my sense of smell is mental too and things I usually like (eg my shower gel) is now repulsive. Yay re obs appointment next week!

Biscuits hope your MW appt goes well tomorrow too.

Little sorry you are worried about back pain and hope it's nothing. I've had different twinges this time too - less of the period pains I remember from DD, but more random twinges. I feel like my uterus may have grown a bit already and things have pushed up a bit, even at this early stage. I read somewhere that with subsequent babies, your body responds more quickly. Hope it's just that, but go to the dr if you are worried.

Scarlet hope you enjoyed your Christmassy morning. I need to get on with the rest of my cards and wrapping presents!

Ninja enjoy the big announcement tonight! And best of brooking for your scan next week.

I've got my 2nd blood results and the hCG was 61,213, which is great as it's within the range I calculated and also still slightly above the range for 6 weeks. I've discussed it with DH and we are going to wait until the 12 week scan. I'd love an early scan, but it seems I haven't been referred for one and because the blood results are good, there doesn't seem much point in pushing for it. I will just have to be patient and trust that all will be well. Having an early scan doesn't change anything, what will be will be, so I will try to relax more now and wait until Jan!

NinjaChipmunk · 07/12/2011 12:28

what brilliant results generic you must be well chuffed. And by reading your post I now feel much more up to date with how everyone else is too Grin

TheLittleFriend · 07/12/2011 12:58

Thanks for the encouragement about the back pain everyone, it's still there but, as generic says, what will be will be, so I'm just trying to carry on as normal. Really looking forward to my first acupuncture since my bfp tomorrow though. It'll hopefully help me relax, and she will be the only other person that will have been told apart from dp (and all you lot!)

Fab news about the bloods generic

scarletfingernail · 07/12/2011 13:52

Fantastic results there Generic you must feel so relieved. It does indicate that everything is happening as it should be so it should make things easier for you to wait for a scan at 12 weeks. You can spend the money treating yourself to something lovely.

Good to hear from you Ninja, bet you're looking forward to telling DS.

Brooking here for all involved in the scanathon.

Biscuitsandtea · 07/12/2011 14:07

Sorry, jus a quick post as mega busy today and just about to go out again, but just wanted to say glad your test results were good Generic - hope that puts your min at rest a bit Smile

little I've also had some back pain I think in the early days (and in fact still now) - the early days are so awful for making you spend all day obsessing about the existence of, variation in, or absence of any number of symptoms - you have my sympathy for it xxx

Hello to everyone else - sorry I've missed something - when is your scan Ninja - are you in the scanathon tomorrow? I'm totally flummoxed with who is where. I need a massive whiteboard with everyone up on it. I know we have the stats thread but I'm not clever enough to work out how many weekend everyone is from the due date Blush.

Right must go and get on - DS has eye appt at hospital and have to pick him up from pre school first and then get DH so better hop to it xx

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 07/12/2011 14:32

Hi all, just adding my No Brooking for the scanathon tom! Good luck to all and especially Too!

Congrats to Generic on the hcg results, that's great news! Hopefully the time between now and your 12 week scan will speed by!

Ninja good luck with the announcement later, I hope it all goes well!

No real update here, just more back pain and a few horrible cramps if I work too late. Working from home today tho so still in my pjs Grin I've been trying to nail down my mat leave so DH and I can book the Brussels trip (altho it'll prob be Bruges now) and I've realised my planned start date is actually the beginning of week 31, not 32. I know it's ridiculously minor but it's thrown me straight back into all the guilt and indecision about going off work so early! I'm wondering now if I should delay mat leave by a week, but rationally I guess there's no point to that? I think leaving work a week early when I have a bad back is probably more sensible than having an extra week with the LO at the other end of mat leave, because really will I even notice going back to work a week earlier after 14 months off!?! It's just that 31 weeks sounds SO EARLY!!

jaggythistle · 07/12/2011 16:49

Hello all Blush.

Sorry I have been in hiding a bit recently. I have been lurking a lot but always running out of time to post a reply!

I have felt really busy recently, but also we have had A Telling Off at work because of some numpties in another department taking he piss with internet use, so have had to lay off a bit!

I am 19ish weeks biscuits :)

I had a hospital appointment to pick up my notes and test results last week, all looking ok so far and keen to get tomorrow afternoon's scan out of the way! Good luck scan buddies. :)

BabyJaggy2 has felt quite lively, so hopefully they are happy in there. Hoping DS will enjoy seeing 'baby mummy's tummy' again and sit nicely so the poor sonographer will be able to concentrate.

Another UBB here so hopefully they will be feeling shy! DH would like to know the sex but I think he's realised I really don't wan't to know.

My MIL has decided this baby is going to be a girl...

Got to write Christmas cards now, will try to add a bit more later as this has been a bit of a me update Blush

Biscuitsandtea · 07/12/2011 17:10

I'm currently eating medicinal nutella after it took 25 minutes to get into a car park at the hospital for DS's eye appt. DH and DS had already had to go in, so I missed most of the appt and got gestured at by an incompetent bus driver to boot because he couldn't manage to drive round my car, even though another bus driver behind him managed to go round him and me without any fuss whatsoever. And then he seemed to have expected me to just drive on out of the queue despite the fact I'd already been there for 10 minutes by this point. Gah! I gave him the 'I'm sorry, I don't seem to be able to hear you' ear-cup signal but my theory is that, although I certainly wasn't stopped in an ideal place I didn't really have any choice as no one could get in to any of the car parks so if he managed to get round me without scratching his precious bus then he could have done it without making such a fuss about it. Gah again!

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 07/12/2011 17:51

Biscuits, Nutella definitely has medicinal qualities! Stupid bus driver. Did you shout 'you could get a bus through there!'?

I will be 24 weeks on Friday, yay! The 20 week scan picked up the kidney problem, and I really hope tomorrow's one shows that it has gone. It's also my first growth scan and I have a consultant appt straight afterwards. I want to ask if they can give me a CS date yet! I've taken the day off work, hurray - if it's bad news I won't be in any shape to go back to work, and if its good then I will still be knackered by the anticipation, so I shall go home and nap afterwards.

Hurray for great HCG results, Generic! Brilliant!

Little, I've been having backache recently too which makes me wonder if it's premature labour every time and I think it is just a second pregnancy thing.

On the in-law front, I usually get on with mine reasonably well, if in a somewhat stilted manner. However, I am gloating rather a lot about the fact that they are going to NZ for 6 weeks in February and won't be back until Bean is a month old. That's what you get for being so organised and booking 8 months in advance, PIL! They have mocked our slapdash last-minute approach to holiday-booking, but now the boot is on the other foot. Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 07/12/2011 17:53

Oh I wish I had said that Too!!

And yay for 24 weeks - it's a nice milestone I think? am brooking like mad for the scan and hope they give you a CS date too. xx

dreamfeeder · 07/12/2011 19:37

Tired.

biscuits, it would have been awesome if you'd shouted that to the bus driver!!! I only think of comments like that way too late. I have big problems re:nutella and spoons so no longer have any in the house at the min- what would i have done?! Oh, wait. Got stuck into the huge tin of quality street Dh bought after we finished an 800g tin of roses in 3 or 4 days... A disgustingly short time anyway, I can't believe he's bought so many more QS (1.5kg tub!) when I've proven myself not trustworthy.

Did anyone else watch Britains biggest babies? They'd found links to high junk food consumption when you're pg giving your child a liking for it, and even though I haven't looked it up in any detail (just in case!) It's spoiling my enjoyment of junk and unhealthy food!!!!

LOL, that's good about the inlaws too, gives you some breathing space to bond with your bean unhindered by too many visits!!! Don't worry about her name, we couldn't choose for dd, she was 'baby dream' for a day and a half til Dh just decided for us!!!

dreamfeeder · 07/12/2011 19:41

little, think the.golden, if annoying rule, is no pregnancy is the same (I can't believe I wrote that, winds me up!) But everyone on here and my RL friends all say second time has been harder, bar one, and it was still much worse for her first trimester but then better than her last by far from there. I think it'll be fine!!!

generic, eeeek, you're still on for twins in my book!!! Hooray!!!! Well done on your fab. baby growing so far,and great hcg result :-)

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 07/12/2011 19:57

I'm am suffering terrible heartburn now as penance for my nutella over indulgence Xmas Envy. I think I might need to consume equal measures of Gaviscon to negate the nutella.

Dream I also have terrible spoon / nutella issues (evidently) and never normally have it. I never put it on toast or anything just eat it out of the jar, but on this occasion is bought one of the little jars because they are just the right size to use as glasses for fruit juice in the morning but DH had to use one to clean his paintbrushes so I was taking one for the team to get another glass to match.

Because they don't sell glasses round here Xmas Hmm

dreamfeeder · 07/12/2011 19:59

Oh, and 24 weeks is 29th Dec for me, and I said how much I was looking fwd to it as its next scan and appt and the milestone part to Dh who was totally rubbish 'huh, you meet them, generally not great at that gestation'. Thanks dear!!!!! Of course, none of us will have them then, just nice to pass it.
