Thanks Manda. So glad you have got an appointment. Hope everything proves to be fine. Let us know how you get on.

I totally agree about the loss of innocence. It just makes all the bad stuff seem possible somehow, knowing you have been unlucky before. But hopefully not this time for us.

MandaHugNKiss · 10/11/2011 19:41

Alright, so it costs £180 but for the level of expertise/detailed scan, general surroundings, and complete piece of mind it couldn't have been money (or time... the time!) better spent. Plus £18 parking. Bargain! Hmm

Bottom line - all things they check (duct in liver, heart, nasal bone, nt) were perfect. Well, the nt, it was impossible to get an accurate measurement as the baby had the cord around its' neck like a necklace which was making the nt bulge one side of it and less the other... even when we scanned for an hour, then I waited in reception for an hour (drinking sugary hot chocolate in order to encourage the baby to move) and tried again. As you know my measurement was 2.0 yesterday and he averaged it out to look about 2.1 or 2.2. My bloods, apparently were, and I quote, fantastic.

My risk started at 1:138 age adjusted. After all measurements, it was adjusted to 1:2761 which is the absolute lowest they will give me as they do not lower the risk by anything more that x20. So, as he told me, it could not look any more perfect right now. (oh and crl was ANOTHER day ahead... this baby is getting bigger by the moment - I can see another whopper on the way!)

Further, he recorded the whole thing onto a dvd for me, and printed out three (different!) pictures - two of which were 3D images that he switched to momentarily to show me how the baby had the cord right where we needed to take the measurement!

They are beyond fab at the fetal medicine centre. Cannot recommend them highly enough. THe difference to how I felt yesterday compared to today is like night and day.

oltob · 10/11/2011 20:38

Brilliant news Manda, I'm so pleased for you. Interesting about the x20 thing too, I wondered how open it was.

CRL sounds good too, it's amazing how quite they grow, pippin had grown loads between my two. I still have the odd stress about short femur length from the first scan, no measurement on the second but am resisting the urge to obsess.

I'll be relieved when the other blood test is out of the way.

tostaky · 10/11/2011 20:57

Had my booking in appointment and my scan today!! Im relieved! oNe very wriggly healthy baby!!

My NT is 1.9 which is ok to me, i will worry when the combined test results comes through!
however they did not measure the femur lenght etc... only checked placenta, crl and nt.

Got my 20 weeks scan date: 6 january!!

it was so nice to see there was a baby after all and that it was very active!

Manda - glad you are reassured now, it can be nerve raking sometimes

mikocat - crossing my fingers for you - let us know how it goes

Sorry I have been lurking since my initial posts. I've been absolutely shattered & feeling as rough as a badgers... repeat daily.

I've added myself to the list & Mikocat hope everything has gone well for you today.

Well done Manda, so pleased for you. Off to MUMS in the morning for my scan, so hoping to join you in a big sigh of relief tomorrow!

Catsycat · 10/11/2011 21:31

Should have said, very pleased for you too tostaky!

Mikocat · 10/11/2011 21:49

Hello all, I had my amnio this morning, it nearly didn't happen because the baby was 'wearing the placenta like a hat' to quote the consultant, I had to go away and drink more water to fill my bladder up, luckily it co-operated the second time around, or it would have been a week's wait for another appointment.

It wasn't pleasant, but it was quick and the very nice consultant gave the baby a full scanning and gave us lots of free pictures, she showed us everything (brain, heart, fingers, spine) and said that it all looks good, a good nasal bone and no cleft palate or anything like that.

So now I've been on the sofa all day, a wee bit sore and drifting in and out of sleep. DH has been working from home for the day, so I've had some company.

If all goes well we should have the results back tomorrow afternoon.

MidwifeWithABump · 10/11/2011 22:00

Hello :)

going down to a&e with severe heart palpitations :( fun times eh

MandaHugNKiss · 11/11/2011 10:36

miko hope your results are good.

mythical Hopefully, it's just your extra blood volume. Lots of women become much more 'aware' of their heart beating/beating quickly (again, it beats faster in pregnancy because of blood volume) and it can be scary but is usually 'normal' (unless you have any unerlaying heart problems?). Fingers crossed for you!

Yorky · 11/11/2011 12:02

Mythical, hope its something they can reassure you about without too many more tests (cos we don't get enough blood taken anyway in pregnancy Hmm)

Am feeling a bit better now, thanks everyone, still shattered but can at least eat. Am trying not to think about bump getting the bug, but am very keen to hear HB at MW appt next week :)

Glad the test results seem mostly to be coming back positive now, the pregnancy lark is exhausting - if its not one thing we're stressing over its another dozen!

cupcakefairy · 11/11/2011 13:00

Great news Manda, always helps to have reassuring HCPs. Miko and mythical hope all turns out ok for you both.
All this worry kind of makes me glad we're not having any of the Downs testing..I'd just be way too ConfusedConfused

Congrats tostaky on good scan :) - so annoying that people assume you would want a girl now Shock. My MIL had 4 boys then a girl and hates it when people say to her 'oh lovely you got your girl in the end then' and stuff like that, as if her boys were all just unsuccessful attempts at getting a girl, when actually she'd have been perfectly happy with 5 boys and wasn't even 'trying' to have a girl! People are weird Hmm I think 3 boys would be just lovely. Slightly muddy house over the next few years maybe, but a bundle of fun Grin
Can't believe you'll let dp know the sex though; I could never do that!! Would always be second-guessing him, esp when it came to talking about names!

Right must have some lunch while ds still asleep... off to meet some NCT friends this aft, one of whom is 23 weeks pregnant and I look bigger than her already, hmph! have a lovely weekend all xxx

Catsycat · 11/11/2011 13:08

Hi midwife, congratulations to you too :)

mythical, hope everything is OK.

Yorky glad you are feeling better.

mikocat hope the results come soon.

I had my scan this morning, and everything was absolutely fine. Even got a wave from the baby (or a salute!). Everything was really clearly explained to us by the obstetrician, and we even got a DVD and photo CD to take home (DH was a bit mystified by that!). I will get the blood test result on tuesday, but the nuchal fold measurement was 1.41, the nasal bone was present, and the heart all looked normal, so I am hopeful everything will be OK. Feeling much better now, and hoping I can just go into normal pregnancy mode without stressing all the time. It was the best £170 I've spent for a long time - I really recommend MUMS to anyone in the midlands.

Have scrutinized the photos and DVD, BTW, and can't see any nub that might give away the gender. DH thinks I've gone mad.

When I got home I had my consultants appointment through for 6th December. I also phoned to let Warwick know my scan had been done, and they confirmed I'm on the waiting list for a scan round the 8th January.

Looking forward to telling my friends that don't know I'm pg (well, I bet they do know really...) as we're having a curry together later. DH is going to tell his parents tonight, and we are going round there tomorrow so will tell his sisters and nieces then (if the MIL hasn't already told them).

Going to try and do some cleaning now before I get the DDs from nursery, as I have spent the last 2 weeks hardly doing anything for being so stressed!

Hope it is a good news kind of day for everyone. :)

Mikocat · 11/11/2011 14:31

Hello ladies, the hospital called earlier to say that all is well. They still grow the culture for 18 days, which I think can turn up some much rarer abnormalities, but the consultant says that she isn't expecting to find anything.

I'm still slightly freaked out by the miscarriage risk, but hopeful enough to add myself to the new list.

mythical · 11/11/2011 16:32

hello everyone, i just came back from a&e.. i have a history of heart palpitations but i usually get 1-2 every couple of days when it's severe, i had them all day yesterday every 2 minutes and all day today so far. my pulse has barely been lower than 200, it's exhausting.
They can't really do anything about it - the beta blockers they recommended before the pregnancy are not safe to take so they might sign me off work for a little while and change my job role so i'm more backstage where i can manage them better

musicalmrs · 11/11/2011 17:16

Mythical, yikes, that doesn't sound good. Being signed off definitely sounds good - it'll give you some time to recouperate, and then the backstage role will help in the long run I'm sure.

Miko, so glad to hear the results are good. I'm sure they'll remain that way :) So pleased you're finally on the list!

Catsy, your scan sounds great! glad it went so well :)

13w+5 here, and actually felt a lot better today for the first time in ages. Hoping this is a good sign!

MixedClassBaby · 11/11/2011 19:02

I've been thinking of you today, Miko and am relieved on your behalf. Glad you've added yourself to this list. Have a Wine (ribena).

Thank you Littlesarah! :0

Harecare · 12/11/2011 20:47

pelvic floor

Managed a big party yesterday with nobody suspecting I was pregnant, but can't manage a clothes swap at a friend's tonight. So tired!

Catsycat · 12/11/2011 21:29

Thanks musicalmrs. Glad you are feeling better!

LittleSarah · 12/11/2011 22:35

Hello all

Glad manda and catsy have had good scans, and very pleased your amnio went well miko. Mythical, you sound like you have been through the mill! Pulse of 200?? Good lord no wonder you're exhausted. Hope you feel better soon.

Well I have finally started telling folk about the pregnancy. My mum, despite my worries, is very pleased. And my dad. My daughter told him and he wasn't sure whether to believe her as she had told him before I was having a baby when I wasn't. (Because I mentioned having one in the future). I know my mum told my sister when she saw her this morning and I am bit miffed surprised she hasn't texted or anything to say congrats. Oh well!

Hope you're all having nice weekends.

cupcakefairy · 13/11/2011 11:47

Loving all the pelvic floor reminders- very useful!! Grin

Good news that your family are pleased littlesarah that must be a relief :)

Welcome to midwifewithabump too...you know we'll all be asking for your advice now you've outed yourself as a mw Grin

I've been oggling some of the half price mothercare stuff this morning... v tempted by the baby einstein playmat down from £60 to £30...ds had a Mamas & Papas playmat which looked pretty but actually wasn't very good...would love to get a better one this time round.

luckynumber11 · 13/11/2011 18:05

Hi everyone, can I join? Long-time lurker, been following all your news since the first thread, but just too superstitious / in shock to actually add my name before the 12 week scan. Well, on thurs I had my scan and everything is looking good. Had my nuchal measurement (1.5) but will have to wait a week or two to get the blood test result and an overall risk figure.
This is baby number 3 for us, and a big surprise, I even took morning after pill when I thought I might have missed a pill or two, due to the stress / chaos of moving house that month! Just as i was getting my head round how we would manage with 3, work told us that they will be making some redundancies, but haven't decided who yet... if i'm one of them things will be v.difficult on one income. So I'm going to have my hands full and finances a bit more (or a lot more) stretched, but I am also looking forward to a new little baby joining the family and was very relieved to get through the scan with positive results. Fingers crossed the overall nuchal risk will be low. I know a few of you are having your third, which gives me some reassurance that we are not doing something crazy!
Haven't told our dd's yet, but I know dd1 in particular will be very excited about it. Have told my parents and sister, but no-one else yet. For some reason I feel a bit embarrassed about talking to friends about it, probably because it's an unplanned "accident" and I can imagine it will be a bit of a talking point for some people!
If anyone is amending the list, please add me on (on my phone at the moment). I'm quite confident my due date is 25th may, but the scan has put me forward to 21st may so I suppose I should go with that as the official date!
Sorry for such a long introduction, just getting it all off my chest. Good luck to anyone still waiting for a scan next week. Hope you have all had restful weekends.
