Here's me too!

2nd May (or 28th April by scan) - Harecare #3
4th May (or 30th April!) - Yorky, #4
8th May - Dreaming #1
8th May - myweeangel #2
11th May - Cairnterrier, #2

15th May - heidihole, #1

21st May - littlesarah, #3
25th May - LimeFlower #1

Limeflower - :o at "what an unruly, unsettled creature"!!
Also snap with the hide and seek bump. Reckon kids in my class have guessed though because any time I've been speaking to a parent in last week or two they've been very quick to ask how I am! Not gonna tell them til Christmas though. Give them such info on a need-to-know basis, I always say!

What is the nub theory? I think I'm having a boy because I haven't been as sick as with DD. I wonder though am I just better able to suppress it this time round. DH convinced it's a girl. He would love another girl (he's a big softy and a great dad to my DD). So would I if I'm honest, but I'm scared to will that on too much and then - dare I say - be disappointed Blush?? if it's a boy. Hence my telling myself it's a boy maybe? Definitely not finding out this time though. may be last baby and I want that experience in delivery suite of "It's a ___! "

Anyone else honest enough to say (even guiltily) that they would prefer one sex over the other???

musicalmrs · 08/11/2011 23:09

For myweeangel (and anyone else who's interested), the nub theory can be found here (as well as many other places!). Near the bottom of the page!

Limeflower, we weren't expecting three - were just given them! I was 13w+1, and a couple of the pics are quite clear - I guess the age helps with how much you can see.

LimeFlower · 08/11/2011 23:25

Thanks for the link musical .According to the pic of "bits" the baby is still at unrecognizable stage, but "angle of a dangle" hmmm...I've got a theory but i don't want to set my mind and then feel "disappointed".Just want a baby, nevermind the flavour!
Off to bed as it's late and have to get up early tomorrow.
Good night everybody :)

LittleSarah · 09/11/2011 09:09

Re the nub theory. Baby so wriggly don't have any view of the nub at all! Will ask come January.

Musical - I too still feel horribly nauseous, can't wait for it to fade. I think it may last until 16 weeks if it is anything like last time. Boo.

lime Your profile isn't viewable! I can't remember what you need to do to make it so but you have to check some box or other in your 'my mumsnet', I think.

Scan at 2pm today. Been mentalling constantly the last couple of days, which has been fun Hmm

(hoping to clock the angle of the dangle, too! Grin)

cupcakefairy · 09/11/2011 09:28

Hi ladies...just been looking at a site telling you details about each week of pregnancy, and apparently week 13 (where I am) the intestines that have been growing in the umbilical cord are now making their way down to the abdominal cavity Shock crazy how fast it all happens.

Manda sorry your post about the list seems to have been passed over Confused you made a very good point about ladies feeling too ropey to post, sorry I hadn't thought about that :( hope nobody is offended. But never mind, the list isn't really very important in the scheme of things.

myweeangel I don't think I have a preference for one sex but so far everyone has said they think it'll be a girl and I've felt a teeny bit of disappointment at that as I'd love another boy...prob just cos I love my ds soooo much though & can't imagine a girl. First time round I'll admit I felt a teeny bit of disappointment at being told it was a boy when he was born, but that only lasted 5 seconds before I fell in love with him. Really it just doesn't matter at all does it!

We had about 7 pics from our scan! Too right, we had to pay £3 for them! Grin

Added myself in.

I told all my friends at playgroup today, they were all so excited. I think it's because a lot of them have finished their families so they'll love having a baby to cuddle!! Plus they are all lovely of course Smile. I'm feeling a lot more like myself now, but still get nausea if I get too hungry or overdo it.

In a way I'm kind of favouring a boy as that's what I'm used to now! Plus it would save a lot on clothes and toys Grin. But it would be lovely to have a girl though. DH wants one of each so would love a girl.

Lovely to see it's mostly good news now and lots of scans. The second trimester is great! My hair is doing what it did when I was pregnant last time- doesn't need washing anywhere near as much. Washed it Saturday and no sign of greasiness yet, normally by day 3 or 4 I need a bit of dry shampoo around the temples but this is a great time saver!! Shame it won't last after the birth!

tostaky · 09/11/2011 13:56

hi everybody!!
My scan is tomorrow at 3pm.... i jusy cant wait to report that everything is fine!!

re: gender : i already have two boys and some people assume i want a girl... yesterday i was speaking to someone at Ds nursery and i said i didnt mind 3 boys, and she kept repeating: 3 boys, 3 boys, lots of trouble, 3 boys?? lots of trouble... you dont want a girl?

as much as i was disappointed ( for 5 mins) with Ds1 being a boy, i honestly dont mind either sex.

this time im not finding out although my DP will and my dad doesnt want to know either but my mum does... it should be quite interesting to see if they can keep a secret!!!

oltob · 09/11/2011 14:28

Hello all, I've added myself too. We'll be finding out the sex at the Dec scan. With #1 I found out but DH wanted a surprise so I had to keep schtum. I'd been convinced I was having a boy so was very surprised when told a girl, I was almost grieving for a day or two, which was daft as it was just my pre-conceived ideas that had changed, not the actual babs. Just clicked to investigate the nub theory but thought best check tonight, not sure our pics are up to it though.
DD is convinced she's having a 'baby sister' as is DH. He always said DD was a girl after dreaming the boots advert song 'here come the girls', v.scientific.

Just got out my scan picture to see if I can tell the gender, but the legs are in the way!
I cannot tell a lie, I do want it to be a boy and I know DP will be incredibly disappointed with another girl. I am slightly obsessed by it to be honest, but never was with DD1 and DD2.

Yay4may · 09/11/2011 15:18

Hi all
Just popping in for a weak wave and to say I am still here in case anyone was wondering if I had gotten off the bus. Haven't posted in several weeks as have debilitating morning sickness including being hospitalised for severe dehydration :.( Its's so bad DD and I are off to US shortly so I can have full time help from family.

Good news is baby was fine and HE announced himself - scanner lady (?) said I shouldn't tell you this at 12 weeks but you're having a boy. Had no idea they could tell that soon.
Hope to check in again shortly and catch up!
PS
My wee angel - midwife and nhs website says you can have xray after 12 weeks. I also have cavity and so they did a temp fill at 8 weeks and am going back this week to sort out.

Mikocat · 09/11/2011 16:41

Hello ladies, just wanted to check in and say that i am having my amnio tomorrow morning first thing.

If all goes well I will be back to add myself to the new list.

One good thing about the amnio is that I should find out the sex without any room for doubt.

Good luck to all those awaiting scans!

myweeangel · 09/11/2011 17:40

cupcakefairy You hit the nail on the head. It's just that I love my daughter so much and maybe would be scared I couldn't love a boy as much. That's not how it works though is it?! We're programmed to love them more than we could ever imagine.

Wrigglebum You have a point with the financial side of things. Another girl - same clothes, same toys, share a bedroom (leaving a very handy spare room!) etc. I think you worded it better than me when you said you might "FAVOUR" one over the other, rather than using that horrible word "disappointed".

Thanks for honesty with this - was expecting a few "tut tut tut"s and "you should be grateful whatever you get"s, but I underestimated your understanding! Of course I am grateful and over the moon to be so far along, as I know you all are.

myweeangel · 09/11/2011 17:42

And thanks to yay4may for the dental advice. Pain has gone for now so dentist doing nothing, but it's relief to know that as I make the most of my free spell of dentist visits I'll be able to have an x-ray if necessary.

MandaHugNKiss · 09/11/2011 18:16

And I had my NT scan at 2pm. Although, on the surface of it, things seemed ok, I've been left feeling very gloomy indeed. Baby measurung a day ahead (12+6 edd 17th May). But as she went straight to the NT measurement I started freaking out as I could see the measurement was 2.0. Which is considered fine. But my last three babies measured 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3. And where in my head I was freaking about the measurement, I forgot to look for the nasal bone (which appears missing from the single picture she gave me - I looked at DS1's pictures though and one you can clearly see it the other it looks missing). So I know the measurement isn't awful but I am panicking. And it was literally over in five minutes. DP offered to pay for a private one that will look for the other soft markers but maybe I should wait for my risk to come back (but then possibly miss the window for a private one - ARGH!).

(updated my edd even though they only changed it by a day)

oltob · 09/11/2011 18:47

MandaHugNKiss - I freaked too, bubs measured 1.9 with smaller CRL than DD who was 1.1. I got my stats there and then and was low risk 1/1850, but after getting home and checking old paperwork realised it'd been the integrated test I'd had before (they take a further blood test after 15 wks) and it's slightly better stats (we'd paid extra for it). So I went for the second scan at 13+1 at my old hospital, bubs was then measuring 2.0, and I asked the consultant if that was worse, even though well within 'normal' range. He assured me it's just all babies are different and you shouldn't compare with previous children - easier said than done. Although tbh I've forgotten what my actual risk was with DD. I'm older so my risk is bound to go up a bit. I think they can do the NT up to 13+6 so you've a bit of time to think.

mythical · 09/11/2011 18:54

MandaHugNKiss - have you got your notes with you? In my notes there's a page from the ultrasound, written by the sonographer? i i thought that even if you miss the window for an NT scan you can still have a triple/quadruple scan ?

Marmite123 · 09/11/2011 21:14

Hi yay4may sorry to hear about your awful morning sickness, good to hear you're going to family, sure that'll help you feel better.

mikocat fingers crossed for the amnio

MandaHugNKiss 5 mins does sound pretty crap to me, mine was really thorough and I think you have every right to feel let down if they didn't check all the soft markers as well as the NT measurement. I think the standard of ante-natal care is far too variable across the NHS. But do check the report as there may be more detail there than she told you and maybe it was just an easy scan - in part mine took a long time because baby wouldn't turn over.

I saw the obstetrician today - I guess because of my age, BMI and 2 unsuccessful pregnancies I'm on shared care seeing both midwife and consultant. Basically she just went through the blood and urine results from the booking appointment and the scan results. Fortunately everything is normal so it didn't take long and she doesn't need to see me again till after my 22 week scan. I'm seeing the midwife again before then.

I just wish it wasn't so long to the next scan, 5 Jan seems a really long way away now!

MandaHugNKiss · 09/11/2011 22:07

That's the thing - I had the NT scan for my last baby in March this year (my loss) - the report was much longer, detailing amongst other things that my placenta was anterior. As she handed me a bunch of paper towel to clean up I asked if I had an anterior placenta (I suspect so from my doppler) and she said, all blase, Oh we don't check the placenta at this scan.

But they did 7 months ago?

I think I feel quite a bit calmer tonight than I did earlier - it may sound fatalistic but my worrying now won't actually change anything, will it? So I'll just wait and see what the combined risk is with my blood results too.

Superficially, grrr, I didn't get a chance to notice the nub because of my freak out! I think, depending on my combined risk of course, we'll pay for a private gender scan at about 16 weeks to get a better, more leisurely look at the baby (not to mention find out the flavour!)

Catsycat · 10/11/2011 10:34

Hi everyone. Sorry I've not been around for a bit - my internet connection has been playing up and only working at dial up speed, so keeping up with MN would have been like a full time job!!! Part of the joy of living in a village I suppose!

Manda try not to worry - I know it is really hard not to. I hope your blood results will be reassuring.

Yay sorry about your sickness - I hope it goes away really soon.

Miko good luck for the amnio - I guess you may have had it by now? Keeping fingers crossed for you.

I have my scan tomorrow. The MW / hospital between them messed up my appointment for an NHS scan - I want to go to a hospital in the neighbouring PCT, and apparently the paperwork to book the scan is different, my mw didn't know, and the hospital didn't have the professional courtesy to let her know she'd sent the wrong form.... great! By the time I found out what had happened (10 days later), they had barely got any scan appointments left. I ended up either with an appointment next week at a hospital I don't want to go to (for various reasons) or a scan in two weeks at the hospital I do want to go to. By that time I'd be over 13 weeks, and would only have a couple of days to be rescanned privately if they can't see the nuchal fold.... Also the waiting by that time would be torture, so I decided to book a private scan and get it over with. I have been told that, as I will be about 11 + 4 tomorrow, the nasal bone might not be present. I should get the result from the blood test on tuesday, rather than a 2-3 week wait from the local hospital so, given my generally panicky state of mind at the moment, that probably makes it worth the money!! I never had a Nuchal scan with DD1 or DD2, but apparently my risk based on age is 1 in 180 or something, so has doubled since having DD2 2 years ago...

Amazing how negative I am feeling about the scan, despite the viability scan a few weeks ago. Feeling quite disappointed at how different this pg feels, after having my mc at the end of june, compared to how positive I felt with DD1 and DD2. Hopefully if the scan comes back OK, I will start to feel better....

I've added myself onto the list again, and will update the EDD after the scan if it is much different (though am having an ELCS so it'll probably be different anyway!).

Well. I've called the fetal medicine centre in Harley Street this morning and am going to them at 2pm! I'll have all results back before I leave them so will have a much better idea if I'm fretting over nothing or if, indeed, there is cause for concern (and so I can start the serious thought process of going for a dianostic test)

catsy Pregnancy after a loss is just SO different, isn't it? I never realised as I mourned my baby that I should also be mourning the loss of innocence in any subsequent pregnancy. Hope you get good results tomorrow!
