Good to hear from you iwish I almost sent you a message earlier as wondered where you were!!
So sorry about Joshua's colic. Have you tried gripe water?

Just a suggestion for you and madkatz, are you demand feeding? I found instead of feeding Euan on demand, I fed him at the same time every day, and he was soooooo much better with wind. Don't ask me why, he just was. It may have been because he wasn't crying for a feed, he wasn't taking in too much air, whereas if I 'got there first' he was fine. May be worth a try to feed Joshua and Sophie.

MadKatz · 15/11/2011 16:36

Hi Iwish glad to hear from you! We're trying gripe water here now and it seems to be working a bit but for the last 3 nights the time between the 10pm and 1am feed is now spent trying to find any way possible to console a crying Sophie Confused

Klou sound great and I have tried getting there first when I know we've had to go out to appointments which would normally fall at her time to feed, but it's not been successful as she doesn't wake up enough so doesn't get a full feed and then ends up waking up anyway when she's ready Hmm. Any suggestions?

Iwish · 15/11/2011 16:56

Yeh have tried gripe water klou he hates it lol. He will happily take infacol or colief tho lol.
I am demand feeding and his daytime feeds ate mostly at the same time every day give or take half a hour, he seems to have put himself in a bit of a routine. I just hope in a way that with me cuftimg dairy out that it helps.

Where did you get Euans swimming shot from? I dont know where to look lol.

madkatz it's hard when you have to go out isn't it. I like you try and feed him early so that he won't be hungry while we are out and it usually works. I hope Sophie settles soon, or at least brings her crying time forward. Joshua used to be crying until 1am ish but now we are able to get him to sleep between 10:00 and 10:30.
Is she is her Moses basket? Joshua didn't like his so we have just put him in his own room in his cot.

MadKatz · 15/11/2011 17:08

She's in her moses basket as its the only place she will settle. She is in our room as Im not happy about putting her in her own room yet, but I get up and take her into the nursery when she needs feeding/changing or is upset so DH can get his sleep on week nights because of work

KLou111 · 15/11/2011 17:50

That's a shame madkatz re the feeding. How old is she now?

Bummer on the gripe iwish Congrats on the in his own room thing. Best thing IMO as it gets them used to it early. Got his swim suits off ebay. They were all new from Next, Mothercare and Tesco. I had a look in shops but think was 'wrong time of the year'.

Euan's feeding at the mo at 7am full feed, 11am full feed, 2:45pm full feed, 5:15pm tiny bit to see him through to 6:15pm full feed, then a full feed when he wakes up in the night. We're going to gradually drop the 5:15 feed though.
He's napping at 9-9:45am, 12noon-2pm, and 4:45-5pm, bed at 6:30pm.
However, I am going to push his last feed to 6:45pm and bed for 7pm as of tonight.
I was doing 8am-8pm, but found he was getting REALLY grotty on an evening as he was knackered, so we went back to 7am-7pm, despite it killing me at first in the morning, however it is OK now as we have a lovely 2 hours playing in his room. He has an hour in the nude on his playmat and doing tummy time, 'standing', and 'sitting'. Then I wash and dress him and he has around 30 minutes playing before getting sleepy.
He's been going to bed around 6:30/7pm from about 6 weeks old, but we changed to 8pm til around 10 weeks, then back to 6:30/7, but we were waking him at 10pm for a feed, but left him from around 10 weeks, then last week we were waking him again as he seemed to be having a growth spurt and waking up all hours in the night, so getting him up seemed to help with that, which the HV said was for the best which was reassuring.

Not sure if that helps at all, as Joshua and Sophie will be feeding a bit more regularly, but you can get the jist :)

Sad for you iwish and madkatz no advice for you, just symapthy. i was lucky in that lulu only had it for about 45 mins in the evenings, all i could do was leave her in her swing in the hall as nothing helped, so i have no idea how you cope with it for hours, especially in the night. you both seems to be doing brilliantly tho and getting things under controlSmile

i try and feed violet when we go out so she doesnt want a bottle in the middle of the school run or supermarket, but sometimes she has the feed and still wants more an hour later. on tuesdays we go to baby massage at 11, so i try and give her a bottle at 10.15 so we can be out the door for 10.45. but every single time i have still had to stop at about 11.30 to give her a bottle, so that doesnt always work.

her injections this aft have really upset her. she had one in one leg, which she laughed at Hmm and 2 in the other leg which she screamed at and has only just stopped!! well bit of exaggeration, she did stop when i tried to give her some rusk at 4.45. i mixed it with some milk to make it nice and sloppy, but more came out than went down. buti am sure some got inGrin

then bath and bed at 6.20, but she was screaming and didnt want her last bottle, so i put her down with the mobile on and shes gone off.

fingers crossed she has a good night(cause i am knackered!)

Iwish · 15/11/2011 20:42

Awww poor violet liz! I hope she sleeps ok for you, maybe tge jabs will make ber sleepy. Joshua is grumpy after his too but he has a cough and cold so it could be that too. Just given him some calpol.

You have such a fab routine klou! I don't know how I would get Joshua into a routine like that. He won't go any longer than 3 hours between feeds during the day. How did you get Euan to go do long? Joshua screams if I don't feed him there and then. I will check Those shops out for the swimming suit thanks :)

I wish Joshua would have settled in his Moses basket but either we were walking him up snoring/breathing or he woke himself up hitting the Moses basket. It was an accident that he went in his cot first time, I put him in there with the mobile on because he was crying and I had spent a hour trying to get him to sleep. And he shut up - so I left him there lol.

Just expressed for 4 minutes and got almost 5oz. Is that good? Joshua normally feeds for 10-15mins so I presume he gets loads!
Had him weighed today and he was 11lb 7oz!

lizandlulu · 15/11/2011 20:54

violet still only goes 2 to 2 and a half hours in the daytime between feeds, some babies just do. both of mine have never gone 4 hours, and she goes from happy to 'waaaaaaaaa im starving' is less than 60 seconds! theres no build up with her so whan i am homei constantly keep the kettle warm so i can do a bottle in less timeGrin

Iwish · 15/11/2011 21:14

Yeh I know exactly what you mean about happy to waaaahhh in 60 seconds!

When did you stop being paranoid about babies being in their own room? I jump out of bed if he coughs etc in case he's been sick (he often sucks up bits of milk) or if he makes a strange noise I'm out of bed! I have a monitor and a movement pad!!

lizandlulu · 15/11/2011 22:07

i stopped being paraniod when she stopped bringing up sick. she went into her own room at 10 weeks when she out grew her basket, but i didnt rest easy till about 12 weeks i think. she was quite sicky but thats passed now although she sometimes makes a strangeling chocking noise which makes me jump out of bed!

have you got anything for his cold? a couple of weeks ago violet was snuffy so i got a plug in thing to help her breathe, its made by calpol and its got pads that are lavender and chammomile i think, you just plug it in and it eases them, abit like baby vapor rub iyswim?

KLou111 · 16/11/2011 07:26

I think you just have to go with it regards bubs being in their own room.
For the first few nights I was on edge, and even now if Euan has slept til we go to bed, I look in on him before we go. I suppose you just have to trust the monitor. I don't think I would have been as relaxed without the movement sensor tbh.

With regards his feeding, he's never really been an overly cryey baby. Don't get me wrong, he has his moments, esp if he had a bit of wind, but he's always been more of a sucky baby with his hands hence we dummied him. He has started sucking his thumb too which is so cute. Took a pic last night, will put it on. Rob sucked his til he was like 10!

I also started him on the Gina Ford at 3 weeks. I don't do it by the book, but his routine in the day is hers. However, we have always gone out when we wanted, and if it was nap time, he slept/sleeps in the car or buggy.

He slept so well again last night, did 7-2.20am, 2.40am-6.50am!!

That expressing iwish is loads!!!! I only used to get 2-3 after half hour, hence I got the shells as I got no more expressing.

Hope violet ok Liz how did she sleep after her rusk?

OP posts:
Iwish · 16/11/2011 15:32

liz the bring sick freaks me out! Every time I hear a funny noise I keep thinking he's choaking on sick do go rushing in.
Yeh I have some nasal spray and some kind of contraption for sucking snot out lol Grin. I have calpol too in case of a temperature but gave him a bit yesterday after his jabs.
How did violet sleep?

klou if I didn't have the movement pad I think I'd be sleeping on the nursery floor lol!!
I've been reading the gona ford book and am kind of trying bits of it like the times of naps etc but havnt really got that into it yet.
Great sleep again for Euan! He seems like such an angel!
Re the expressing - I took that off the boob that Joshua had just fed off 10 minutes before! Shock

When do your sodding hormones calm down?? I was in a card shop today and saw a card that says sons first Christmas and I stood there so close to tears I had to look away! And I watched something on tv where a lady had a baby and I cried. Soft arse lol.

Joshua was asleep by 9:40 last night, up at 1:30 ish and 5:00 then up again at 7:00 crying because he was all snotty. I spent most of the night getting up to check him because his nose was that snotty I thought he would stop breathing and I didn't have anything for it at the time.

KLou111 · 16/11/2011 17:35

I don't think your hormones do calm down do they lol!!
poor Joshua, feeling for him. Nit nice being ill, but his sleeping seems good. How old is he now?

Off swimming tomorrow. Last one before hols Tuesday. CAN'T BLOODY WAIT!!!!!
He'll hopefully get lots if swimming in.
Been trying to get the packing sorted, think he'll have his own case!! I'm limited to 2 pairs of shoes inc the ones I'm wearing there lol! No, seriously, it doesn't look too much, but no doubt once its packed it'll look more!!
Rang the airport re feeds and they said a flask of water was fine to take through security but I would be asked to taste it. If we take pre mix cartons they'll get us to open 50% of them, which is a bit silly, so the flask and powder it is.

OP posts:
lizandlulu · 16/11/2011 18:02

evening all, well violet slept ok last night considering her jabs upset her. she went to bed at 6.30, woke at 1 for bottle and back to sleep till 7.10, but even then she was quite happy to stay in her cot for a while.

i have tried her with rusk again tonight, but she didnt seem as interested. i have had to give her calpol again today for her teeth, she was really upset again this aft.

iwish my hormones were all over the place till about 6 weeks ago, so about 2 1/2 months after!

the reason my hair is falling out now is that there is no oregnancy hormnes in me anymore, so must take about 4 months for them to go completly back to normal.

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 16/11/2011 18:27

Hey all hope everyones ok?

iwish i still have hormonal moments i'm afraid! That's loads of milk! I can just about get 4oz if I 'save up' for a few hours!

Have a good holiday klou, am so jealous Envy.

madkatz i really hope sophies colic clears up soon. Bless her :(

liz did you buy anything nice when you went shopping?

Well I have officially had enough of breastfeeding. I hate the fact that im constantly in demand 24-7, that im the only one shes happy with because i can't leave her with anyone else. And my shoulder's bad again, and I can't have anything for it because im breastfeeding! But I don't know if I can actually give up because she won't take a bottle! I'm so fed up ffs. And i miss alcohol, i haven't had a drink since september last year!

lizandlulu · 16/11/2011 18:48

oh forgot to tell you, i left the pram frame on the pavement outside school this aft and drove off!!!

i was half way home when a friend rang and said 'er have you forgot something?'Grin

i had took the car seat off the frame and put heri n the car and just driven offGrin she pushed it to her house and i picked it up from there.

well at least i remembered to take the baby off it firstGrin

MadKatz · 16/11/2011 19:30

Lol Liz re the pram frame, I haven't done that yet but its the sort of thing I would do! Grin

Spaghetti colic no better here Sad. She's an angel during the day, it's in the evenings that she has her bad times and I am up about 3-4 hours in the night up to 1am trying to calm her down. Eventually it works. Confused

A friend has recommended we go to see a cranial osteopath, so we're booked in on friday to see if that will help. Don't know what else to try.

KLou111 · 16/11/2011 19:34

Lol Liz what are you like!!! Yes at least you had the baby!

That's how I felt melly, feel sooooo much better now on formula even though I do most of the feeds, but I am actually enjoying doing it now :)
What bottles has she had? Would it be worth trying a different one?

OP posts:
SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 16/11/2011 20:29

madkatz hopefully that will help her, I bet it sucks being up all that time. Poppy only had it a couple of times so I don't know exactly what you're going through, but I do feel for you x

klou she's tried avent and tommee tippee, got an avent pump and we bought tt bottles just incase. Thing is we can't afford to buy loads of different types for her to try! I need to talk to my sister and hv about it.

Update on simons dad. It's like nothing ever happened, he's still at home with his feet firmly under the table, he's even selling his car and him and simons mum are going down to one car! He keeps taking her shopping and he's taking her on a cruise next year Hmm Although it's quite a coincidence that she's lost her disability money as she's now classed as fit to work so she no longer has any money of her own . . . .

lizandlulu · 16/11/2011 22:13

melly i am sorry i wasnt ignoring your earlier post, it wasnt there when i posted mine!! honest!! i am not ignoring youSmile

i cant advise you either (i am no bloody use to no one!) but i hope you get something sorted soon, if only for your shoulder

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 16/11/2011 22:32

Lol liz no worries. You are an idiot for leaving your pram though :o good job you took violet off it first!

KLou111 · 17/11/2011 07:18

I've heard Dr browns are meant to be good melly. I've got MAM ones as meant to be as close to the breast as you can get.

Well, we got 3 in a row. Exact same times as last night, however something unsettled Euan at 4.45 so I had to get up and put his dummy in to settle him. He wasn't crying, just moaning so I perhaps could have left him.
Currently sat on my lap mesmerised by the light in the room!!! Such a cutie :)

OP posts:
KLou111 · 17/11/2011 11:01

Talking Xmas. Anyone had or thought about a fisher price rain forest jumperoo? The reviews are fab!! Euey will be 4.5 months by Xmas, bit pricey but if I could fit in it I'd have a go!!!

OP posts:
lizandlulu · 17/11/2011 14:57

aparetnly they are really good klou have you looked on ebay for a second hand one? although every time i have looked they always make about £45 ish even second hand!!!

Iwish · 17/11/2011 16:03

Lol at leaving the pram frame liz!! That's just hilarious!!

melly I'm the same with the feeding too. Although last night because Joshua isn't well he was fussing so much he wouldn't latch on so screamed for half a hour and I ended up expressing the milk and feeding it to him in a bottle. Then I sobbed uncontrollably for about 40 minutes because I wanted to feed him in the boob. I've heard the dr brown bottles are quite good too but we have Tommee tippee.

Awww bless him staring at the light klou. The smallest things amaze them. What is a jumperoo?

madkatz i hope the cranial osteopath helps. Have you tried colief? You should get it on prescription as its £12 for a 7ml bottle.
Also have you thought if it could be dairy intolerance? Our doc said Joshua has colic do for weeks I have believed this buy after speaking to the hv on Tuesday she said to cut out dairy and see if he has intolerance and so far he hasn't been half as bad!!

Well I can't believe I'm saying this but we think Joshua is teething already. he is dribbling like mad, cheeks are red, he will happily bite on my fingers, red bum and I can see 2 little while buds on his gums! Oh hell!
