so fari have only given violet jars, i started iwth palin baby rice and progressed to mixing spoons full of fruit puree into it andj ust go from there, once they learn how to take food from a spoon it gets easier. violet now has 2-3 tbsp of baby cereal (from a packet, its cereal with fruit and yoghurt, sounds not nice but looks and smells lovely) and 1/2 jar savoury and 1/2 jar pudding for evening meal at 4.30 ish. i have not yet started giving her any at lunch yet, will do so in maybe couple of weeks. you just have to do what you think is right although i joined the heinz baby club, they send you a really handy booklet with meal planner type things in it giving you an idea of what they should roughly be having.

any luck with the routine tonight?

Iwish · 08/01/2012 21:48

Thanks liz. I'm totally clueless about weaning. In fact now I'm really enjoying BFing it's going to be coming to an end. When you start baby rice is it best to give it at tea time/last feed time rather than breakfast?

We didnt have much of a routine tonight as we have been at my mums and didn't get back till 7:55. I put his pjs on then took him upstairs, milk then put him in bed. He was shattered tho the poor little mite.
What time was violet in bed tonight?

Went to church today too. Was an experience for nick lol. He's never been to a catholic mass. I havnt been since I was about 14 tho.

lizandlulu · 08/01/2012 21:57

she was in bed for 6.30, abit later tonight cause we didnt get back from peterborough til about 5 ish os she had her tea later and bath later too.

professional people reccomend you give them something in the daytime, like lunchtime so they can be wide awake, happy and fullly alert with no distractions. but i started violet at teatime, the only reason being i wanted to make sure she had a full tummy to go to bed on, and i am always in at tea time, i am (was) often out and about in the daytime and couldnt always garuantee being at home

will the church not even consider christening a baby if the parents dont go to a service?

lizandlulu · 08/01/2012 21:59

sorry got to go bed now, work tomorrow! got to out the door for 8.20!! wish me luck

Iwish · 08/01/2012 22:08

No liz. We have to go every week or they won't christen him. We have to go after too otherwise they won't do his holy communion.
I may do the same as you with the weaning and give it him around tea time. Maybe it'll help him sleep longer.
I was thinking about making his meals like carrot and swede, potato etc but wasn't sure how much to do etc. think I will invest in a book aswell as asking u lot lol!!

Iwish · 09/01/2012 09:19

Sorry liz I've only just seen your post!! Good luck for today! Hope it goes ok and you don't miss violet too much

KLou111 · 09/01/2012 10:11

iwish I started weaning with a bit of rice around 11, then progressed to the evening. I got (sorry) the Gina Ford book of weaning, not because of her, but because it was recommended over the annabel carmen one. It also guides you through how to increase food etc, which is fab because we didn't have a clue how much to give etc as everyone says gradually increase it, to what? Lol. I would recommend it, as I say not cos of her, but cos its the only one that tells you amounts. Must say too, when we were away we used jars and Euans poo went like ours, harder, whereas when he has my home made stuff, its softer :)

OP posts:
KLou111 · 09/01/2012 10:13

It also tells you how to do the homemade stuff :) I've just done another batch, lasted about 4.5 weeks

Good luck today Liz x x

Iwish · 09/01/2012 11:56

Thanks klou I think I'll have a look at that one. I need one that tells me amounts etc as I don't have a clue. Lol at you and gina ford!
I do fancy making his food myself, hopefully it will be cheaper than jars too.
That's good for it to last 4 1/2 weeks. How long does it take you to do that?

Had a crap night last night. Last feed at 8:30 then up at 12:00, 3:30, 6:45 then 8:20. I'm shattered. Think this may be the start of the 4month growth/development spurt. He slept rubbish sat night too. He's been really whingy and clingy again and refusing naps which means he screams his head off for a hour or so until he goes to sleep.

Iwish · 09/01/2012 12:08

Oh yeh is it the pink book klou or the blue one? There are 2 on eBay xx

KLou111 · 09/01/2012 14:26

Pink one :)

Took a couple of hours total to do swede, sweet potato, carrott, pear, Apple, courgette and green bean. Only took that long cos of peeling, chopping, then only have 8 ice cube trays so had to do in batches. They are 99p for 2 in willow, and got some little boxes for the freezer 0.8 litre. I washed the boxes (8), rinsed then put a little bit of water in the bottom with the lid sideways, 3 mins in micro :) You can use it up to 6 weeks so I just put what's in it and use by date.
It's a good book as there are certain foods babies can't digest til certain ages ie banana not til 6 months etc. I got it for 99p lol!

OP posts:
KLou111 · 09/01/2012 14:44

Wilko not willow! Still have some courgette and green bean left, I try and sneak them in as he's not too keen on them :)

Hiya everyone - happy new year! It's ages since I've been on. Hope you're all well - bruises notwithstanding! DD tried to wiggle out of her seat the other day but managed to catch her in time - just...

Iwish - DD had a shocker of a week at about 18 weeks. She got a lot better then had a cold which was a bit rubbish. Hope you get a better night tonight. BTW if the BFing is going well, weaning certainly doesn't mean the end of it. I fed DS for over two years (and he still ate solids like a piglet)... Though at the end it was just a bedtime feed. It worked great for us and was much easier than I had expected.

Am just about to start weaning DD - will be going straight to BLW/lumpy stuff as she's 25 weeks now. I did the whole puree thing (Karmel because someone loaned me the book) with DS but just can't be bothered this time. Will see how we get on. I reckon she'll still need about 7 feeds a day from me as she's having a bit of a growth spurt. I tried her on a bottle yesterday (with expressed milk) for the first time. She was okay with it - took about an ounce. It took weeks to get DS to do that. Will try her a few days a week with a bottle or beaker as I'll be back at work in April and want to make sure she can have milk in the day if she wants it.

DS is on great form. Our potty training battle seems to be over . HURRAY! And he's at preschool 3 afternoons a week now so I get an extra few hours with DD.

Liz - am thinking of getting the Quest for DD - are you happy with it?

madkatz - wish I had an answer for you on the crying - sounds awful. Big hugs.

waves at Melly

Gotta dash and make dinner.

Iwish · 09/01/2012 17:43

That's not bad then, a few hues to do food for 4.5 weeks. Think I'll do the same. Have been get bought some little spoons, bowls and baby rice. We don't have any ice cube trays so will need to either get them or some little pots.
Does that book have recepies or just how much you should be giving?

Joshua is doing my head in today. I'm not joking when I say that out of the 9 hours he's been up he has been crying for 5 1/2 of them. He's only been quiet when he's been feeding or when I've eventually got him to sleep.

KLou111 · 09/01/2012 17:46

Hiya womb good to hear from you :)
How old is your DS? Good luck with the weaning. I would have liked to have just carried on with the bottle, soooo much easier as I feel like all I'm doing is feeding lol! But it just wasn't going to happen. I weighed Euan on our scales yesterday, obviously not accurate, but he's around 18.5lbs and 21+3 weeks. But he's not fat, so he's carrying it very well lol.
Saying that, he looked different this .morning, his face looked rounder, but I didn't say anything, anyway out shopping this aft and Rob said he looked different. How bizarre we both thought it??? We are with him all day every day so its not as if we hadn't seen him and he'd changed lol!

Got another agent coming at 9am tomorrow so have been frantically cleaning the house, got another at 11.30 so were going to do it in the morning but the other is coming in his eat to work. Nearly done, just to vac upstairs, robs currently scrubbing the kitchen floor tiles lol!

OP posts:
KLou111 · 09/01/2012 17:53

I went to buy pots for freezer but take up too much room at the mo. You can put about 30 cubes in 1 box that I got and they only have a couple of cubes at first :) will get freezer pots when he's eating more proper meals.
Book has recipes for when they're a bit older, and the purees for now.
When they get older, the recipes say 8 portions or whatever so you just split it into pots :)
Bet Joshua is doing your head in! Euan didn't sleep when we went out today, he had an hour at 3 when we got back and is a bit grumpy tired. Have just put cbeebies on and it worked lol. Bedtime soon.

Iwish · 09/01/2012 17:54

Thanks womb. I do really enjoy enjoy bf at the moment. Might change my mind when he has teeth lol.
When are you going to start weaning?
Well done to your DS for his potty training. Bet you are happy now!

Iwish · 09/01/2012 18:01

Omg klou he is doing my head in. Can't wait for him to go to bed!
Lol at rob scrubbing the tiles!! Sounds like he's nesting haha.
Im watching a few of them books on eBay now Grin

lizandlulu · 09/01/2012 18:24

everning all. well violet seemed to like nursery, she slept there for an hour and had usual bottles and shes gone to bed fine. and i managed to be out the door for 8.15!!

womb hiya, glad you are all well. yes the quest is really good. maclaren really do feel alot more sturdy than other makes. i ahd one with lulu and lasted for ages and ages, infact i still have it in the shed so going to try and get the cover off and wash it ready for if we go racing.

klou do you get your bibs clean??? all of mine are stained with bloody orange food!! i cant seem to shift it in a normal wash. but washer is playing up, got a man coming wed to look at it, got a blockage somewhere so nothing is getting softened.
violets faves are orchard chickin, sweet pot and beef, well anything with sweet potato, but they are all orange!!

WombOnTheBroom · 09/01/2012 19:02

liz - great that Violet enjoyed nursery. We had an Obaby stroller for DS - it was okay but not as good as the Maclaren's I've seen.

Klou good luck with the agents tomorrow.

Iwish I'll start offering Flo some solids this week or next. I reckon we'll just keep on BF until she decides to give up. I found with DS that he just dropped feeds as he increased the solids he was taking - so he had about 6-7 feeds per day at 6-7 months, 5 at 9 months, and by 12 months was having about 3 feeds a day (which I did either end of work). He finally dropped the last one when I was preg with Flo. I didn't mean to feed that long when I started out but it worked for us. He's 3yrs and 4 months now. He's climbing on me at the moment and telling me he wants to be 'nakedoo' so he's pulled off his clothes and is bouncing around. I'd better go before he frightens the neighbours...

lizandlulu · 09/01/2012 19:59

nakedoo??? where'd he get that from then womb??? HMMMMM???Grin

i went to kiddicare originally to get an obaby stroller i had seen that was really pretty, purple spots, but compared to the maclaren it just felt cheap. my travel ststem i have got is obaby and thats fine so i thought the strolelr would be ok ,but it just didnt feel nice.

i had decided on this maclaren one and was just going towards the lift to go downstairs and saw this one [[
www.bambinodirect.co.uk/Cosatto_Yo!Limited_Edition_Stroller-_Go_Lightly_CT2611/version.asp]] it is so pretty it literally stopped me in my tracks!!! but for once in my life i went for practiality over looks, its just n
ot as nice to push as maclarenSad but HOW PRETTY IS IT!!!Grin

KLou111 · 09/01/2012 20:09

What are you like Liz you'll be in competition with kiddicare soon!
I put napisan in all my white washes, bibs fine but muslins are orange stained lol! I put a little bit of Ace directly on one of his suits the other day. It is cream, brand new and he was carrot-sick, still stained slightly, bloody stuff!!

OP posts:
lizandlulu · 09/01/2012 20:24

hmm, yes violet was sweet potato sick all down a clean new sleepsuit tonightSad have sprayed it with vanish, see how it goes on

WombOnTheBroom · 09/01/2012 20:52

His cousin. Honest guv. Wink

I've just ordered this for weaning - pink bib - to try to avoid the orange staining. Am sure it'll still happen but I live in hope.
