Well, are we?

Has the sickness abated?
Are our locks shiny and luscious?
Are our nails long and strong?
Are we back on form in the 'ahem' bedroom?

No? Well we soon will be ladies it's The second Trimester*

18 weeks today ! Grin

phlossie · 07/09/2011 13:09

Half way, minnie - that's mad. It is flying by!

People are weirdos, aren't they?! It's one of the 'things' about being pregnant. I remember being very heavily pregnant with my first in a queue in the butchers, and the man behind me clocked my bump and then turned to his mate and started telling him in great detail about someone he knew who had been through the most hideous labour and had nearly died. Brilliant! Just what I wanted to hear.

I've been a full-time mum, and you get loads of criticism about that too - loads! You would not believe. We can't win, basically! My DH and I had a blip about 2 1/2 years ago, and one of my friends blamed it on my being a full-time mum. Ok, that's simplifying it a bit, but it is amazing what people feel they have the right to comment on.

woowa - you speak sense. I was so relieved labour was over that I didn't argue about the syntocin injection (also seemed a bit petty seeing as I'd been pumped with the stuff as I was induced), and my placenta popped out nice and easy.

My NCT group was good for one very important things - friends! They were my life-line and nearly 6 years on, we're really close as a family to one of the families (holidays together etc) and I'm good friends with one of the other mums. In my NHS group I found out a lot more about how our PCT operates its maternity services with a hospital tour etc - it was more factual and really helpful because nothing was a surprise. Plus I have some good friends from there too.

ooh how jealous I am of people reaching half way already!! 20 weeks sounds like an age away for me, but it will be here before I know it!! It only seems like 5 minutes ago I was aiming for the stick!! Wink

Flutter update... I thought I had one in my body balance class last night... and possibly might have had a lesser one last night in bed.... but still not counting either till I have one I can really feel.

Tiredness seems to be lifting a little (hurrah) but still dont actually feel pregnant!

16 week MW appointment next week... and 20week scan on my birthday middle of oct Grin BRING IT ON!!

currently sitting at 15+4 due feb 27th (by original dates - 14+4 by scan date so due 5th MARCH)

Kayano · 07/09/2011 16:05

When did you ladies feel anything for the first time? I want to be reminded something is in there!

I'm 17 weeks today and bored out of my mind waiting!

melliebobs · 07/09/2011 16:26

monkey how exciting for a birthday scan. I get a birthday scan too (kinda) bday is 28th September and Scan's on the 30th. Fingers crossed Pip has his legs spread! Wanna know what's cookin in there.

Xavielli · 07/09/2011 16:34

I've got your birthday scan Mellie Grin

Kayano - With my first I didn't feel anything until around 22 weeks, quite late!

littlemonkeybix · 07/09/2011 16:34

hahaha, I keep telling pip (same bump name!!) to practice their poses and waving skills. But I am hoping my pip will be a little more demure, as we want a suprise on arrival Grin

I'd be clasing your scan as a birthday one mellie, but I have to wait until October 17th!!! AGES away!

littlemonkeybix · 07/09/2011 16:34

classing sorry!

melliebobs · 07/09/2011 16:44

i've had dh telling/instructing pip that he better have man parts! quite funny, i have to keep reminding him it is still 50/50, you can tell it all you want! Awww monkey yey for pips! Infact if it is a boy, cos were struggling to pick one name let alone a middle name, dh wants it's middle name to be Philip. It's not the worst suggestion he's come up with, so i'll go with that

littlemonkeybix · 07/09/2011 17:02

Well our names were decided long before we started TTC. Thomas is my dad's name and I was always going to have a Thomas. So if it's a boy he will be Thomas Stanley William (my dad, his dad, his middle name)

For a girl, there's a looooong string of Lily Anne's on his dad's side, so a girl was always going to be Lily Anne.

I like the name, but am not yet enamoured with it... so if it is a girl, she may well be Pip for a nickname!!

melliebobs · 07/09/2011 17:09

or pippa, you could slide that in as an extra middle one! awww i really like Stanley for a boy :)

We have had arguments over naming this baby after a family member. It's a personal thing and have nothing against other people doing that, but in our case i don't like the idea of this kid having a name of a person they will never get to meet, know, relate too. Dh, if said baby is a girl, wants Emily as it's middle name after his grandma. I've kicked up a fuss, to which DH said, 'well if it's a boy you can name it after your dad'. Thanks but i don't think the name Keith is never going to be ready for a comeback! So i've bowed down to the girl middle name, on the proviso i get majority say over first names!

Kayano · 07/09/2011 17:28

We are in a name limbo ATM.

For a boy we think Lucas John or Jenson

For a girl we have nothing. Zilch . Nada. We can't agree at all. It might end up ad the girl

Baby has hiccups! Grin Not a feeling you forget lol

FundusCrispyPancake · 07/09/2011 18:19

Hi ladies,

I have been lurking for ages but have been too paranoid that I will have another mc to join in the fun.

Had 16 week midwife appointment today and heard the heartbeat Grin.

Time to start believing this is really happening!

FundusCrispyPancake · 07/09/2011 18:21

I cannot think of any boys names. I have a few ideas for girls, but not one for a boy.

I expect this means I will have a boy!

Kayano · 07/09/2011 18:24

FUNDUS!

So pleased for you scoots over and pats seat next to her

Sqeeee Bet you're thrilled!
I had my 16 week appointment but they didn't check for heartbeat :(
I feel sorta sad now, were they supposed to?

phlossie · 07/09/2011 18:28

Hello Fundus - love the name! I only had a boy's name when I had a boy, and only had a girl's name when I had a girl - very handy!

mellie and monkey - I have a nearly birthday scan too! My scan's the 20th and my birthday is the 23rd.

I'm also waiting for the 'proper' movements...

CoffeeOne · 07/09/2011 18:30

Mellie our scan is on the 30th Sept too! Which is my DP's birthday Grin

16+4

phlossie · 07/09/2011 18:31

kayano - sometimes they don't because it's still really hard to find and if they can't find it they can set off a panic! Someone here couldn't find their baby's heartbeat and had to go for a reassurance scan. (sorry, can't remember who!). My midwife could only find my baby's mixed with mine and the swooshing sound of the umbilical cord.

FundusCrispyPancake · 07/09/2011 18:40

kayano MW said they didn't have to do the heartbeat check but I was sooo paranoid the baby wasn't alive she did it for me. I was Grin and nearly cried. [wimp]

phlossie Thanks, I am having a craving for cheese and ham crispy pancakes but they don't make them any more. Maybe a toasted sandwich will do? It's so nice not to be puking everything!

Xavielli · 07/09/2011 18:49

Fundus - On one of the episodes of river cottage they show how to do home made crispy pancakes... will try and find a link....

ZhenXiang · 07/09/2011 18:51

Hello Fundus, congratulations and welcome :)

mellie - you can also remind DH that not only is it 50/50, but it is also down to which of his swimmers got there first!

DH was sure that my DD was a boy when I was pregnant last time, he kept talking to my belly saying 'boy, boy, boy'.

This time round he wants another girl, so we shall see, although I pity any boy born into his family now as all but one of the grandkids (14 of them) are girls. Poor boy wouldn't know what hit him!

I am waiting until after the anomaly scan on the 4th Oct to choose names, we will definitely be finding out the sex and it will be so my easier to choose between either girls or boys names rather than both.

I am having movement, but it is nothing like last time. With DD I felt flutterings from 13 weeks. This time it is more like a pushing and rotating movement, I have been getting it from 10 weeks, but no kicks yet even though I saw baby kicking at the scan. My placenta is anterior this time (was posterior last time) so that might be something to do with it.

Xavielli · 07/09/2011 19:04

Recipe I imagine you could just put ham and cheese in instead!

Crazybit · 07/09/2011 19:44

Hi all, way too chatty for me to keep up!
Went for my 16 week check yesterday. She wouldn't do the heartbeat :(

She took blood to test for downs as they didn't do it at my 12 dating scan appointment and also to check for anemia.

I thought i'd felt movements from a few weeks ago but seems to have stopped the last few weeks. OH went on a stag do last week for a few days and then came back with a hangover and has gone treking for 4 weeks now Angry Not impressed. My tiredness and sickness is back with a vengance, dd1 started secondary school, and dd2 started nursery, so things would be a lot easier with oh around but will ust have to get on with it. Life would be so much easier if I had some family within a 3 hour drive!

FundusCrispyPancake · 07/09/2011 20:08

Thanks for the recipexavielli

Bless him, my DH has just made me ham and cheese toasties. Is anyone else's DP being an absolute star? I have spent the last few weeks puking, sleeping, lying in bed moaning and doing FA, while he has cooked, hoovered, walked the dog, mowed the lawn etc. without the slightest complaint.

Do you think it will continue after the birth?Hmm
