mellie - I've signed up to all those classes too, I can't remember which days I selected but we might wind up in the same one! I've opted for Sharoe Green as it's very close to my house and I would like to keep the option of epidural open if possible!

Happy anniversary phlossie!! I have those worries too, I think we all do. Try not to dwell though you'll make those dreams worse!

littlemonkeybix · 06/09/2011 15:00

I'm going to speak to my community MW next week, see what's available. There doesnt appear to be ANY info for my area on line!!

So far this PG, I have been quite unimpressed with the information I have received.... ie NONE!

1st PG and my source of information has been YOU LOT Grin So a big fat thank you to you all!! (can one of you come with me to give birth please... I think I'd be more confident!!)

Hope you're all having a good day... I wish my tiredness would abate

FFS the extreme needle phobic Kayano is RhD- negative

Bloody foaming!!!!!

Argh stress!!!!

louby86 · 06/09/2011 16:36

Kayano that's rubbish! Poor you!

I've been told to ring the hospital after my 20 week scan to book onto my ante natal classes which are 2 2 hour sessions. Looked up the nct ones too so I think I'll be going for those as they have the breast feeding class in with them. Think they started at about £155 where I am.

DH has been busy decorating, wants to make the spare room really nice for guests before starting on the nursery later this year. I think he's worse than me with his list of stuff that he thinks needs to be done before the baby arrives!

Not been sick for 2 days so fingers crossed my morning sickness has finally disappeared!

hi again ladies.

i am off to the hospital for a 16 week consultant appt tomorrow morning. not sure why i am consultant led again although i was in the last two and i have an underactive thyroid - midwife didnt mention it at my booking in appt. have only seen her once at around 10 weeks then had scan at 12 and now consultant at 16, scan at 20 and may get to see the midwife again at 24! bit weird feeling.

have been feeling some mega kicks over the past few weeks - i am about 16 1/2 weeks atm. not had much over the past few days though and getting a bit paranoid but if i sit quiet i do get some flutters.

hope everyone doing ok. dont go on at work anymore as seems to be some back stabbing going on.

melliebobs · 06/09/2011 18:23

Ooo coffee we might end up in the same ones! Although I've chosen the combined 5hr weekend class which is at chorley I think?! Oh god knows it seems ages since I sent the thing off

QueenFee · 06/09/2011 19:11

If you want to find out about breastfeeding go along to your breastfeeding support group antenatally. They are run by other mums (like me!) They have all done training on bf. They are generally very well informed welcome questions and the best bit you get to see people feeding which is by far the best way to learn. Its also a lovely way to meet people and learn the reality of parenting a newborn. If anyone wants to know where there nearest one is let me know and I will see if I can find out for you.

I had my mw appointment yesterday, heard baby hb for the 1st time. I don't see her again till 28 weeks :o I bought a doppler on ebay for £3.50 ss I thought it would be nice for the kids to hear it.

babycarmen · 06/09/2011 20:28

Thanks for the embryo care everyone! I think freezing and unfreezing is tough on embryos which is why they may not survive, plus they weren't top quality embryos so i think they think there is a higher risk of mc. However, we've had 4 top quality embryos put in and have only 2 children (including this little one on the way), so there are no certainties with IVF anyway. And we have a friend who has had perfect child from imperfect embryo, so i don't think there is any way they can really know. They advised us to bin them as it was a waste of money to freeze and use them, but as there is no way they can possibly know they aren't a potential baby we are giving them a go. IN a couple of years' time!

On antenatal, i did both here (the NHS was just a drop-in talk really), and am really glad we did NCT ones just to have an idea about birth positionsa really. Agree that not great for actually looking after a baby. Our breastfeeding lady told us that breastfed babies don't need winding, which, with the knowledge I know have was an unbelievably incorrect thing to say. DD was sicking up masses of milk til my mum persuaded me to listen to her and just wind her! Maybe some bf babies don't need winding, mine certainly did! The other issue I have, with hindsight is the NCT teaching on the syntocin injection you are given to help the placenta come away after the baby comes. NCT presented it as an option not to have it, which is fine, it is an option, and means baby gets more cord blood and so more iron. HOwever, both of us on our course who opted not to have it haemorrhaged and needed blood transfusion, which is what used to happen in the olden days before the injection and mums died. So, although DD got more iron, I was severly iron deficient for weeks and found it very difficult to look after DD and function. (it wasn't necessarily not having the injection, i do know that). SO, i'll be having the syntocin injection this time.

If all that made you panic or go HUH? don't worry, just have the injection!

Anway, after all that, i'd still recommend the NCT, but do listen to other voices and advice which may contradict them as they aren't perfect! And as someone else said, if you don't have any clasees, don't worry, just read mumsnet, stay upright or on all fours in labour, use gas and air and tens to start and see how you go, and watch breastfeeding vids on youttube!!

woowa · 06/09/2011 21:05

I was going to edit previous post but accidentally posted it instead. Sorry if it's a bit of a rant or worrying!

littlemonkeybix · 06/09/2011 22:13

Ahhh woowa its posts like that I was talking about!!

I'm reading as much as I can, and know that for every A, ther'll be B... Its just good to have our bunch of first timers and repeat offenders to bounce ideas, fears and indeed tears off!

PLUS... I think I had a flutter tonight... So not sure as this is my 1st, and I'm 15+3 and I was in my BodyBalance class... I'll be taking note over the next few days!! (Please be a flutter!!)

[Grin]

Soothe · 06/09/2011 22:34

I love the february thread - so glad i've hopped on it's so interesting!

woowa i agree with so much of that - not ranting at all

I had my first child at 24 which felt young as none of my peers were anything like having children and he was not planned! Ante natal care was virtually nil and i never contemplated classes. He was a dream baby and i just went with the flow. With my subsequent babies (4th onwrds) i had a bit on ante and post natal care and found that a lot of tosh was talked...so much stuff is fashionable as weel Dummy use, sleep positions, weaning etc etc - there's something to be said for old wives tales Wink they sometimes speak sense!

m1nn1em0u5e · 07/09/2011 00:08

Evening ladies!....

Got my 20 week scan tomorrow (well actually later today)! So nervous, as we had a bad experience last time, which thankfully turned out ok. Excited to see our little boy again, yet, nervous....

With regards to antenatal classes, I did NHS ones first time round, didn't bother last time, nor will I this time, I just go with the flow & take things as they come, I agree Soothe, the advice constantly changes....I would recommend a visit to labour ward though, just so its not quite so intimidating when labour day arrives!....

Xavielli · 07/09/2011 00:18

Couldn't agree more Soothe. My eldest will be 7 this year and most of the advice on weening etc has changed in that space of time. There definitely was not the huge push to bf that there is now. My mum had 2 kids in the 70s and was actively encouraged to bottle feed yet when she had 2 more in the 80s it was all pro breast. Swings and roundabouts! (Disclaimer: breast is best, this is a fact but just trying to illustrate how faddy advice can be)

Littlemonkeybix - bless you! I think sometimes there can be an overload of info at times like this. Take things one trimester at a time, concentrate at the moment on enjoying feeling well and looking forward to seeing baby again at 20 weeks and feeling first flutters. There is plenty of time for research on syntocin etc in the third trimester! One step at a time or you'll drive yourself nuts.

I love the whole experience, pregnancy, birth, new baby! It's all so exciting and the only truly unique experience in life! So exciting!

Sugar80 · 07/09/2011 07:46

I'm sticking my head in the sand. Whatever happens happens, regardless of how much you're read, what classes you've been to, or how long you've pent of your birth plan. Maybe naively, I'm going to put my faith in the NHS and do as I'm told when the time comes for this baby to arrive!!

15+3, getting fatter, no movement!

Sugar80 · 07/09/2011 07:47

spent on your birth plan. Not pent of. I need a coffee!

melliebobs · 07/09/2011 10:25

Ok officially had the first urges of wanting to slap someone silly after a daft comment they came out with RE my pregnancy.

Was at work in the gym chatting to a client and she was asking what I'd done at the weekend so told her inwas expecting (cos u can't tell) and that we'd been to a baby exhibition/show. Her comment "oh so that will be the end of your working career then won't it?" I then proceeded to pick chin up off floor and told her that no. As I am the breadwinner of our household and have a mortgage and now a baby to pay for I'll have to go back to work 4-5 days a week. "but what will happen with the baby?". To which she got role it will go to bloody nursery like alot of other babies. It's not my ideal choice either but what else can I do! I then got a right daggers stare. STUPID COW.

Kayano · 07/09/2011 10:31

mellie Angry
That's awful!

Me and DH earn quite similar. Looking at out finances I will have to go back 3/ 4 days a week too.

(after the Olympics of course lol)
I do sometimes worry that I'll have to fight harder for extra training and promotions etc but each job is different and people should not be so nosey!

melliebobs · 07/09/2011 10:51

I think she's just "one of them people" the first time I met her she had a very good way of showing her disgust by the pure fact i went to Cuba for my honeymoon, enjoyed it and that I'd go back!

Some people

louby86 · 07/09/2011 11:02

Urghh what a cow bag mellie Well done for not slapping her though, it must have been hard to restrain yourself!

I'll be going back to work too, although FIL has suggested that I volunteer to work late nights instead of within 8-6 type hours because 'I need to let the grandparents get a look in'. While I appreciate that I also think that if I'm around to put my own baby to bed then that's what I'd like to do. Especially as DH works mega hours so evenings is the only time he'll get to spend with the baby, apart from Sundays and the odd Saturday!

Grrr why do people think they know best about your babies!!! Angry

Kayano · 07/09/2011 11:39

Disgusted that you enjoyed going to Cuba?!
Is she on crack?!

CoffeeOne · 07/09/2011 11:43

Littlemonkeybix - I agree I haven't a clue what I'm doing and this thread has been really helpful!

Mellie - ugh some people! I'm in a similar position, I earn quite a bit more than DP and it narrows our choices. I'd love to stay at home but we just can't afford it. Things just aren't the same as they used to be, often women earn more and most families just plain can't afford to survive on one income. It's sad how it's always the mother who gets the blame.

I had my 16 week appointment today which was lovely! It was with the consultant as my bmi is 30.5. She was really nice, said I didn't look overweight, had no problems and passed me back to midwife care! I'm delighted Grin Plus I got to hear a little heartbeat! I can't believe people are now on to 20 week scans! This trimester is going fast....

I have no idea how far along most of you are, don't forget to put your dates at the bottom so I can continue to be nosy!

m1nn1em0u5e · 07/09/2011 12:19

Oops sorry

20 weeks today.....Oficially HALF WAY THERE!

CoffeeOne · 07/09/2011 12:22

Wowee! Are you the first to get to 20 weeks minnie? So exciting!!

melliebobs · 07/09/2011 12:27

kayano it turns out this devil woman has also been but to one onthe islands so in my eyes not 'real' Cuba. She thinks it's downtrodden and everyone is really repressed and there's poverty etc etc. Well there's poverty anywhere you go. But I said the fact they haven't bought into commercialisation and that there isn't a maccies or kfc on each street and that it is stuck in the 50's is part of it's history and charm! I think that added more fuel to the fire!

For the nosey ones 16+3 :0p
