Hello good idea from tomcat

What are all your xmas tips and recipes or stuff you're doing to get you thru the next fewdays/weeks to EDD's

I going to try and make a stocking to hang in the nursery for when my little lewis comes home and for the first time bake a christmas cake.

Sorry I'm thread crashing again but have you contacted your MW Jaysfirst? I have no idea whether your symptons sound normal or not but if you are having any changes to what you normally have I would contact the MW ASAP.

hm, sound like a practise run to me jays, keep an eye on it. if it stops after time or hot bath or paracetmol its a 'practise'.......if they dont its labour
worth writing down times and things for abit....
hope youre okay.

Sounds good advice Jay, just see how you feel this evening. I also have one Xmas outfit Dq, a snowman suit, so mostly white with some Xmas detail, so think I can get away with it between Xmas and New Year
Also feeling fairly organised now, wasn't expecting to still be pregnant this week so have done everything I really wanted out of the way, which is a nice feeling at least. At this rate I will need another haircut soon

Report
Jaysfirst · 20/12/2005 15:56

thanks DQ will keep a check on things, have been left with a dull ache in abdomen abd lower back, nothing more, i think maybe it is a practice run...and there was me thinking she might be here early!

Do you always know then if you have had a show? i read and here all the time about how people see it and how it should look, just wondered if it could happen with out you noticing it?

Report
dramaqueen72 · 20/12/2005 16:33

gosh no, loads of people dont even think they have had them, so you can def miss them. they dont make you feel 'wet' like urine for example, more sticky iyswim. and, i am living proof you can have partial shows often and STILL not be in labour!!!!!! shows arent really anything conclusive, you might get excited by one, but your midwife wont! they can be three weeks before birth too.....what you need, what we all need!!!, is waters breaking, or good strong reg contractions that wont go away. (I've kept tonight free incase this baby/santa/some higher being is listening..........LOL) its pretty certain you felt the start of things thinking about happening, unfortunately, cant say if thats today/next day/next week away from labour tho. which is why we all go abit stir crazy these last few weeks!!!!!

Report
Jaysfirst · 20/12/2005 17:02

glad about that!!

Feel like something is def on the move now then, i really thought i wasnt going to be able to make it home when i was driving...i think from now on i wi be leaving that to DH! Brought it home to me just exactly what is going on in my body, with it being my first, i guess i didnt really know what to feel![smie]

So then any other babies today? lol they are all waiting for chrissie day!!

Jay, I had an evening of something similar last week with a continuous cramping feeling & then waves of pain. All stopped after a couple of hours though & nothing since. Might be a similar thing. Will make sure I go out & buy mag tomorrow!!

Spent the afternoon with NCT ladies drinking tea and moaning about how uncomfy we are!! Knackered now so going to have a doze I think.

Ebbie, Jack is gorgeous. I'm so of you lucky ladies with babies!!

Glad you are feeling calmer DQ, you too Scully. I think the realisation that Christmas is going to be strange whatever happens has made me a bit calmer than I was at the weekend - phew!!

Here's a thread I started on parenting just now, if any of you have any thoughts on this I'd be very grateful:

Our 18 month old DD has just discovered the Lion King DVD. She is obsessed by it, and wants it on several times a day every day. We're currently restricting it to the main songs once a day (about 30 mins viewing). Is this too much? Are we mean to restrict it?

Also I've been avoiding the more "violent bits" (e.g. the end where the lion and hyenas fight) Am I being a neurotic over protective parent? (DH lets her watch most of it but then worries about it afterwards!)

Any advice on this much appreciated...

Eveing all - go jayfirst! Hope you ok!

Have just had mam over for the last time until she comes to visit after birth few few few - At the moment i just feel like i really really want to be left alone to get on with it - people keep asking if they can come and visit and its annoying me! I just want to have my last few nights with DH.

While i've worried and stressed over stuff that has turned out to be nothing (always reassurance from you guys of course) I can say that I've had a fairly ok thrid trimester But ooooohhhhhhh not now i have to sleep sitting up with legs open (like a budda ) - to combat cyatic nerve pain and backache and last week I had very swollen achey joints in my fingers - now my feet are swollen like MR BLOBBY's moan moan. I'm finished now.

Collecting tens machine tomorrow - cancelling sweep and shutting myself away (can't drive now anyway and I'm v skint! Its just me MN and UK GOLD - even sickened myslef of D&H Baby Progs.

Acutally one positive thing I've slep for 6hr stretched last two nights - new budda like position you see

hey BBE, hope you get comfy tonight
re the movie, well my dd is alittle older than yours,(shes two and a half now) but shes always been obsessed about a movie, then moves on to another. i would- and its only my personal view,-
let her watch it all, either the scary bits will encourage her NOt to want to watch it -bonus! or they will be scary but okay and she will realise that in the end its okay ect....maybe the first few times be right there and reasssure her...but trust me, they soon dont fret over them!
how many times? well currently dd2 is obsessed with the polar express movie, she would watch it endlessly if she could. so we try and 'keep busy' or go out or go upstairs etc so she cant watch it over and over. once, maybe twice, then we switch off and play/do chores/go out.... if only to save my sanity.....
IMO movies ARENT the work of the devil, and it doesnt hurt to watch them at all. dd2 can quote lots of movies at you -scarily!-LOL- but i'd rather she watched movies than some of the crap on TV.
I'm not even going to go look at your actual thread on this, as i am sure many people disagree with me and will wind me up reading so!!!so just my thoughts,.....dd1 and ds brought up ssame way and have turned out pretty normal
hope youre okay tonight jays.
and everyone else? wishing you all back on here.
really long episode of BH tonight, nearly got my hopes up, but no, maybe not. scully, yellow, babygibbon - we could all be late in unwrapping our gifts this year!!!!!! think our babies are WAY too comfy!
george, dont you go beating me to it!!!

Morning ladies......
Just wanted to say hi and to second what dq has said,Imho i believe a little of what people fancy goes a long way[yes even for children]my dn always watched tv or films from an early age,and is the brightest in her class....Although i dont stick dd in front of tv ALL day[well not yet anyhow]...lol,it does give me a little peace when she wants her peppa pig dvd on Again, but she soon forgets if i distrate her after the 3rd time in a row of it being on....Dont wworry too mich ,do as u think is best, then when u have decieded what is best for u and your familly go for it with earplugs in ur ears..........
How is everyone else?Website has been updated[i believe]...Dont miss that stage with everyone ringing etc with no news to tell people, doesnt ease of when u have the babe either mind...
Try and prtend to be the answer machine,if u can do it with wetting urself in laughter,dh did it for me.....oh how i laughed...

Also i had bad period type pains the day b4 Jack came with the dull ache in left side, maybe today is the day,and i never have a show or waters break til i am pushing.....LOVE TO ALL XXX

How is everyone this morning? Anyone else planning on leaving us today??
dd has her Xmas lunch today at nursery so will endeavour to get her there for that, and I then see the consultant at 1.40pm.
bg, I would maybe limit how often she watched the dvd each day, but wouldn't worry so much about the 'scary' bits. Our dd didn't watch any tv really before this year, but since then she has watched 1 or 2 hrs a day and hasn't done her any harm. As long as it's balanced by doing other things through the day, and they understand that the tv needs a 'rest' regularly & won't be left on indefinitely, then I can't see a problem. Especially with dd downstairs watching Dora as I type this
How are you this morning Jay, any niggles still? I have had cramping most of last night and again this morning, but slept through last night without anything happening, so don't know if this is the start of something or just what I have had on and off for the past 6wks...
40+4 and still here

Morning all, no further news here i am afraid, other than i did go to bed with the period type cramps in my back and tummy last night, wondering if i would be woken in labour! Alas the only thing i go when i woke were completely numb hands and fingers, god bless carpel tunnel, i sympathaise with all you that have swolen handsd and feet, DH reefers to my ankles as 'kankales' great huh! had two stints of about 3 hrs sleep last night, with an hour inbetween, feel a bit drained today so might have to snooze later.
DH off work now so we are going to go and do a shop today for chrissie food, oooo exciting, i love it but that will be my only chore today, might get a dvd to watch this afternoon.

I cant believe we still have so many ladies waiting to deliver, and there was me worrying that i would be left on the thread talking to myself!

I cant really comment first hand on how much DVD the kids can watch, but i would prob watch it with them the first time to make sure they dont get freaked out by anything, and then chat with them about it, if they were comfortable with any scarey bits then fine if not then i would review the situation, after that i agree with the view that they do like to have a change of DVD everyso often and they soon forget what they were watching last week to move on to the next thing! Guess its just personal choice in some things.

right going to get dressed and have another cup of raspberry tea, ooo must remember to shop for fresh pinnapple!!

thoughts to everyone!

Don't overdo it with the Chrismas food shop Jay. I ended up going a bit funny half way round & had to sit with a mug of hot choccy whilst DP finished it!

Scully, you are so chilled out its amazing. I wish I had some of your patience.

BBE, I'm doing the same now. No more visitors, ignoring the phone, just me, the baby & enormous quantities of chocolate!!

DQ, I think the babies are all staying in til they have had their fill of christmas dinner & christmas treats!! Would you want to swap it all for some milk? Might start telling mine that Christmas is over & trick it into making an appearance!
Not a chance of me beating you. I'm in for the long haul now. Wiggly is going to be a January baby I'm certain.

Make sure you take a list so if you do have to give up half way round he doesn't forget all the yummy things you want!!

Back from my ante-natal and the GP said "well, it's cooked" so I'm taking that as quite a positive sign. Can't believe this baby will want to leave me though, just finished my 2nd box of labour choccies!!

Completely forgot to stop at the shop so will have to go out later to buy Woman mag.

Off to lie down after a hugely exhausting morning wrapping 3 presents!

Keep wondering where everyone else is but I've just realised that they have popped already! There aren't that many of us left now

ooo sooo exciting popping on to see who is going to go next. So who is going to pop on the spectacular xmas day...bless having a baby with a 25th bday. Somebody must be going into labour soon as we havent had any births in 2 days..lol

Take care all

tho really hurting today so WILLING it to be labour. just sent dh to morrisons for shopping,....managed to buy small amount at local shop and then came home... up all night with poorly daughterS, so abit knackered, to say the least. WHY do we stay healthy all year then get 'something' at christmas????
feel abit sick myself, but think thats those bloody crappy iron tablets.
midwife this afternoon, wonder if that will be a pointless appointment? you know just another 'anyday now' comment and nothing else....
have totally lost the love of food last few days so unlike me. just sipping hot water and grumbling alot. suspect dh cant wait for this stage to be over.
gave him his gift from the baby today, was a t-shirt with 'I'm the daddy' written on it. he thinks its great and is going to wear it during/after labour. IF i ever go into labour.
nemo((hug)) sent you a card yesterday, so look out for it. miss you here. promise to 'chat' on the baby thread when/if i get to join you.
