Hello, not sure if there's a similar thread already but just thought I'd create somewhere for nayone else expecting in April 2012?

I actually conceived about 3wks ago but I think this counts as week 5? Just staring to get symptoms - headaches, little stirrings of nausea, getting tired and grumpier than usual lol.

A little bit concerned because I have a LOT of work on from now until October and maybe beyond - and I think I'm just going to want to sleep and puke through it all - hell! :( d'oh.

How long have you worked there, surprisEs? Unless you are in your 3 month probationary period they can't do that.

Saj30 · 06/09/2011 14:54

Hi everyone

Welll this is my 1st pregnancy and I am all over the place to say the least!
In 11th week and have had bout of bleeding, but thankfully everything was ok, am nervously awaiting appointment for 12 week scan? is it normal for it not to have arrived yet? or should I chase it up??

:)

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 06/09/2011 15:12

Saj I never got a letter for my 12w scan with DS, rang the hospital to query it when a friend went for hers, and mine was the following day, I just hadnt received the letter. I'd give the hospital a call.

SurprisEs my former employer had me formally disciplined in previous pregnancy for the same reasons as you (warning only though for "first offence"). Unfortunately for me, they did it properly so I couldnt complain, but doesnt sound that way in your case. You need to speak to ACAS

Mackrelmint · 06/09/2011 15:59

SurprisEs - poor you; what utter shite. As everyone else has already said that is completely illegal and must be terribly stressful. Hope you can find some good advice and support from one of the sources mentioned here.

I'm actually on the first stage of disciplinary procedures at work (basically being 'on report' - stage before verbal warning) and it is only because my last line manager marked me down, mainly for 'losing focus' in the months before I went on maternity leave. Entirely untrue; I think she just must have assumed that as I was pg I couldn't possibly be working hard.

cheaperthantherapy - I know what you mean about 2 under 2! I was desperate for a small age gap when we were ttc thinking about being friends at school and so on, and as soon as I found out I was pg thought 'shit, what have we done?!' I think every age gap must have its advantages and disadvantages though.

digitalgirl · 06/09/2011 16:09

surprisEs that's completely illegal. Definitely speak to a solicitor for sexual discrimination and unfair dismissal. It would be great if you could actually get your boss to put his reasons in writing, before you involve a solicitor as I'm sure he'll soon realise what a twat he's been.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 06/09/2011 16:12

Grin at "shit, what have we done!" - I've had moments like that too!!

digitalgirl · 06/09/2011 17:15

saj30 how far along are you now? If you're 11 weeks and scan appt still hasn't arrived I would be chasing the hospital/MW urgently. Get your DP/DH to do it if you don't feel you can be assertive enough. If you leave it too late they won't be able to do the Nuchal Test. Which may or may not bother you depending on your age. Did you have a scan following the bleeding? If not, then you could use this as an excuse to hurry them along and get them to squeeze you in as a matter of urgency rather than stick you at the end of a long waiting list.

spannermary · 06/09/2011 17:37

Hi, all!

I've trawled through the pages here to find the previous mention of a list and have done a little bit of updating, and added myself. Hope that's ok!!

I've put my date as 26th April, as this is what midwife says - although I expect it to zoom way up the month after my 12 week scan, as a scan last week showed me as 8 weeks, which makes me 9 weeks now.

Either way, it should be a lovely early/late birthday present as I was born on 19th April!

Here it is (I'm sure to have missed someone/edited it wrong...if so - sorry!)

Also, SurprisEs I've been doing a little research and I found the (very useful) DirectGov site:

www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/Moneyandworkentitlements/WorkAndFamilies/Pregnancyandmaternityrights/DG_10026556

Amongst other things it says:

Discrimination and pregnancy
It is unlawful sex discrimination for employers to treat women less favourably because of their pregnancy or because they take maternity leave. For example, this includes:
trying to cut your hours without your permission
suddenly giving you poor staff reports
giving you unsuitable work
making you redundant because of your pregnancy (you might still be made redundant for other reasons)
treating days off sick due to pregnancy as a disciplinary issue
Your employer can't change your employment terms and conditions while you are pregnant without your agreement. If they do, they will be in breach of contract.

Hope that helps!

There is a stats thread, most of the other "months" use that so the list doesn't get in the way of the chat. I don't mind either way really.

toddlerama · 06/09/2011 19:16

Can I be added to the list? [needy] 29th April...

FannyAnnPam · 06/09/2011 20:24

Hi

I am a bit of a late joiner here and just read through all the posts so far.

I am due on 25th April and have had a bit of a roller coaster ride so far. I was suspected of having an ectopic and had scans which appeared to confirm it, high HCG levels which indicated that a heart beat should have been visible so I was wheeled down for the op.

I came to, to be told there was nothing unusual or ectopic found (photographic evidence of my ovaries and fallopian tubes was seen Shock) so "jog on love everything might be fine"...

Needless to say I have been left a little dazed and confused. Only after my third post op scan could they confirm a heartbeat and a normal pregnancy. I am now just getting used to it.

Congrats to everyone here. I guess we will all have our own trials, tribulations, wobbles and freak outs along the way. Its going to be an interesting 8 months!

Thanks ladies, have a day off work tommorrow so will definately will chase it, yes i have had 2 internal scans, as the initial spotting then turned into a bout of heaving bleeding and one very scary large clot (srry if tmi!), the 2nd scan even before I went in dr was telling me to prepare myself for the worse, so I almost fell off the bed when the sonographer pointed out the heartbeat!

FannyAnnPam yes totally agree about the dazed and confused, after having a scare so early on, dont think I'll truly believe everything is ok until the 12 week scan

FannyAnnPam · 06/09/2011 22:53

Saj30 that sounds scary, hope everything works out OK... it is amazing to see this little flickering but somehow it hasn't done much to quell the emotions.

Hopefully this is our bumpy bit and it is allll plain sailing from here on in!

Saj30 · 06/09/2011 23:07

FannyAnnPam it was, but fingers and toes crossed that was the last of the drama for both of us, is this your first?

FannyAnnPam · 06/09/2011 23:41

Yes and no, my DS is nearly 15 so although I have been there before, alllll the rules seem to have changed since; although I am sure evolution isn't quite that quick!!

We didn't have 3D scans or private scan facilities (that I knew of) and c-sections were just a paragraph in a book entitled "If things go wrong..." or something equally awful (is it any better nowadays?) and post natal care was fairly shit (IME at least) if you're not weeping and wildly gnashing your teeth you must be fine.

How about you; is this your first?

Thaleia · 07/09/2011 10:35

good morning! or isn't it?

I can't believe, that being that little bit pregnant (6 weeks) makes me feel so sick :-(. So far I haven't enjoyed being pregnant. I hope this changes .... otherwise the next 8 months are going to be very long. Is it true, you have to suffer 16 weeks of it?

Have you told anyone yet? So far, only hubby and my mum knows.

Empusa · 07/09/2011 10:41

Thaleia I'm hoping it doesn't go on that long! I'm at 10 weeks now and fed up with it!

After we had an emergency scan the other week we told everyone, we were going to wait for the dating scan though.

Thaleia · 07/09/2011 10:55

Empusa - emergency scan? Because of bleeding? That must have been scary!
I haven't even told my GP yet, thought of calling her next week. I've seen her re getting pregnant ("how) before and she told me to contact her - just not immediately after it happened.

10 weeks and still going! At least you only have ~6 left - finger's crossed. Sounds like the finish line from my perspective. One of my colleagues had it worse, the last time she throw up was in labour.

Empusa · 07/09/2011 10:59

No bleeding luckily, I was just in a lot of pain. Seems I'm just really sensitive to the feeling of my uterus stretching Confused Bloody painful it is too!

But the baby waved at us, so not so worried Grin

digitalgirl · 07/09/2011 11:31

Had an early scan today - baby measures 8+3, with a strong heartbeat! This is the furthest I've got with a pregnancy since my DS so am hugely relieved. Still a way to go till we're out of the woods, but happy for now.

Hope everyone's well, sorry to those suffering with morning sickness. Have been told to expect it once I come off the steroids at 12 weeks.

cheaperthantherapy · 07/09/2011 11:32

Am feeling decidedly uninspired at work today and just sitting at my desk trying to breathe through the nausea.. already planning to take a couple of sick days next week to try and rest up and not feel so horrid :)

Aprilfools - thanks for that story, gave me a giggle!

Makeminealarge - I'm also sure this preg is harder than last time (also have DD 13 months). Nausea is constant and tiredness with insomnia is a difficult combination. I love how active and adventurous my DD is getting but I keep thinking how difficult it's all going to be in 6 months time :)

SurprisEs - Am dumbstruck that this could happen. What a pig of a boss. Don't feel like shit - please use it as a motivation to take him to a tribunal, surely it's sex discrimination?! From others posts it seems it's not a once off - am so suprised and really sad by that... it's hard enough being pregnant, raising children let alone facing unfair treatment at work...

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 07/09/2011 11:33

My midwife has been over for my booking-in this morning, so thats all sorted. Not having the Downs test, so wont see her now til gone 20 weeks!!

I'm now waiting for my BIL to pick up DS before going to the hospital to meet my friend for her termination :(

Saj30 · 07/09/2011 12:33

this is my first and its thrown me to say the least. I always thought it was sickness that pregnant women had to deal with, no one mentioned anything about the CONSTANT nausea Shock

Thankfully I have a day off today, so have chased up my 12 week scan (19th sept!!) am trying to get the energy up to tackle the housework but all I want to do is eat!

Am nowgettin responses to jobs I have been applying for, should I tell a prospective employe that I am pregnant? Confused
