Hello, not sure if there's a similar thread already but just thought I'd create somewhere for nayone else expecting in April 2012?

I actually conceived about 3wks ago but I think this counts as week 5? Just staring to get symptoms - headaches, little stirrings of nausea, getting tired and grumpier than usual lol.

A little bit concerned because I have a LOT of work on from now until October and maybe beyond - and I think I'm just going to want to sleep and puke through it all - hell! :( d'oh.

I wouldn't mention it yet if i were you unless there are specific work related reasons to do so. Wait until you have got the job and are in the second trimester. Otherwise it makes it too easy for them to turn you down and give you a different reason, when in fact it is due to the pregnancy.

Saj30 · 07/09/2011 12:41

I could really do with this job as its so much closer to home am currently undertaking a commute of 1 and half hours , my managers at work keep mentioning in passing how they never took any time off for pregnancy related issues. No one at work has given me any information in regards to where I stand i regards to maternity pay etc, is this normal?

kat2504 · 07/09/2011 12:46

Well good for them if they never took any time off but everyone is different and not all pregnancies are plain sailing.
Oviously a one and a half hour commute is not ideal. If you change jobs when you are pregnant you may find you are not entitled to SMP but will still be able to claim Maternity Allowance. Depending on what your current work will give you for maternity pay (check company handbook) this may make a difference to you.

cheaperthantherapy · 07/09/2011 12:53

Oh Beyond - I'm so sorry. I hope you both get through it all ok today. You are clearly a very good friend.

georgee · 07/09/2011 13:59

Hi all

Just checking in! Due on 24 April, this would be my second. Already have a 14 month old DD. Enjoyed the boards last time, they were a big help!

Sitting eating noodles with sweetcorn. At that stage where I'm constantly starving but the range of things I could actually face eating are quite limited. Although I did walk past a discarded foil tray of egg fried rice this morning on the street and thought, 'mmm, that looks appetizing ...' Shock

Empusa · 07/09/2011 14:06

"Sitting eating noodles with sweetcorn."

I could so eat that! Just got back from the supermarket though, where they had no noodles! How crap is that?!

georgee · 07/09/2011 14:26

Truly crap!! I will keep an eye out for a noodle shortage where I am (Edinburgh) - maybe I should be stockpiling! The other thing I'm craving, of course is tuna, but we're on rations with that aren't we? And of course I want everything I really can't have, like wodges of pate on toast!

Empusa · 07/09/2011 14:36

I'm eating tuna anyway, apparently we are allowed 4 tins a week.

I really want a fried egg, especially runny. Damn pregnancy.

kat2504 · 07/09/2011 14:46

Hens in this country are vaccinated against salmonella. Look for the lion stamp and make sure they are in date and then enjoy a nice soft egg.

Empusa · 07/09/2011 14:51

Oooooh!

toddlerama · 07/09/2011 14:52

Hope it's ok to add myself....

You're right about tuna Empusa - I've had tuna mash, tuna baguette, tuna casserole this week so I thought it was about time I laid off ... you'd think I'd be sick of it by now! Good news on the runny eggs kat2504, ta!

One shocker that I've had in the last couple of weeks is (I hesitate to even mouth these words in case I'm chucked off the board as soon as I join) a mouse in our kitchen and lounge. I made the mistake of googling mice and diseases and got in a right old state!! Then read on another board that surely if mice were a problem the human race would have died out - our mothers and grandmothers lived in much closer proximity to them. So I'm trying to be positive about it instead of 'doom, doom!!' Not nice though. We have about six traps on the go and caught nada so far ...

kat2504 · 07/09/2011 15:05

Just make sure they are british eggs and have the lion mark on the box! If they are imported from another country or you are buying them from some lady down the road who keeps her own hens, it's not the same!

Saj30 · 07/09/2011 15:46

Does anyone know if eating prawns is ok? Am craving a prawn curry but DH is vehemently against it, I thought it was just uncooked prawns which were a no no? Confused

kat2504 · 07/09/2011 15:58

I'll go and look it up in the books for you....

kat2504 · 07/09/2011 16:00

cooked is fine. However I'd exercise caution if you were getting them from a takeaway or something as they might have been cooked and then reheated. If you are cooking it fresh, no problems at all.

Mackrelmint · 07/09/2011 16:22

georgee - we've got mice too. I bloody hate the feckers. We have bait all around, from a complete waste-of-£200 visit from pest control (thankfully paid for by landlord); it does not seem to be doing much. I really need to get some traps but am delaying due to squeamishness about disposing of the bodies. REally you need to try and block up all the holes where they come in. We live in an old terrace though that has millions of holes, and are moving out soon (to what will hopefully be a nice mouse-free house) so are not going to spend all our time finding holes...

Anyway, sorry for everyone struggling with the nausea/sickness. It is miserable. I have been feeling a bit better the last few days and eating a lot more normally than last pregnancy, where I could literally only face baked potatoes and salt and vinegar crisps. Fingers crossed things continue in this vein...

georgee · 07/09/2011 16:45

Thanks, Mackerelmint, you've made me feel better! Smile We too live in an old house with countless holes and nooks and crannies so it's impossible to tell where they're coming in from. I was thinking of getting Rentokil in next! If you do go for the traps option, make sure you're not the one disposing of them, in your condition!

Mmm, baked potatoes and salt and vinegar crisps ... actually, Frazzles are pretty good too for the sickness I find ...

digitalgirl · 07/09/2011 16:52

Have merged the two lists and updated the stats thread
Smile

digitalgirl · 07/09/2011 16:54

oh ffs - I did merge them and move myself forward a day to the 15th. But clearly brain not working as efficiently as I thought. Will do it again later. Angry

Saj30 · 07/09/2011 17:16

My sister in law had mice when she was pregnant, they laid down some sort of sticky paper, seemed to work....

Saj30 · 07/09/2011 17:17

oh and thank you kat2504you are truly wise :)

georgee · 07/09/2011 17:19

Ooh, sticky paper, I've not heard of that! Will look into it. Thanks Saj30

kat2504 · 07/09/2011 17:33

Thanks saj I just get fed up of pointless restrictions that are out of date. Once a GP told me not to eat cheese AT ALL. And did not want to listen when I said that was truly ridiculous and not in line with current guidelines. I just wish there was a common sense argument for eating paté but unfortunately not!
