Hello! I've just found out that I'm pregnant and due on the 23rd March! I'm 29 and live in London with my husband, dog and cat. So far at 4 weeks things are going very smoothly! I'm very excited about going to the doctor (even if they don't care) as feel it will make things more real!
If you're expecting in March too please join the thread and share a bit about yourself and how your pregnancy is going!

badgercat · 27/07/2011 21:26

shortlady, yes thats correct !

Im booked in with the midwife when I am 9 weeks, so feels quite unreal at the moment. I find it odd that they 'leave' you for so long before doing any check ups, but they must know what they are up to Hmm

Had a wasted day traipsing around the shops to find some maternity jeans, the huge dorothy perkins, new look AND M&S all decided they no longer need to stock maternity ranges instore Angry which is sod all help for me as i just wanted to see how the jeans fit so i could buy similar from eBay Grin

Carlitawantsababy · 27/07/2011 21:51

Glad you're feeling better davina! I really must be more firm with my diary and get some days working at home! I try to keep one a week free but for months now they get booked with something so important. I think everything else needs to be put back now, it's baby and me that are so important!
Good on the knitters, I'm a sewer, I mean I sew rather than I transport poo! I've been making babies clothes for a couple of months as my sister is pg with twins so will start on some things for my own soon! Smile
zebedee welcome and congratulations! Have you worked out your due date? I think I got mine wrong - I think it's 24th march now!
babybrain the bear costume sounds gorgeous, I have a great knitter friend I could persuade - is it a free download pattern or one you bought? Your docs appointment sounds a lot more exciting than mine was!
feekerry glad you're feeling better - I'm still just fat for which I am very grateful! (loving the top tip eagle)
I feel like that shortlady put my new maternity jeans on when I got home today - soo comfy!
badgercat really crappy the high street for maternity isn't it? I went with my sister a couple of months ago! I bought some gorgeous wide legged mamas and papas jeans from eBay for a fiver (including postage!) Wink
Is it you lot who keep outbidding me on the Isabella Oliver wrap tops?!

Morning all. Well the nausea finally gave way to actual sickness this morning Sad. Typical, as I've actually got to be in the office today. May have to blame it on a sickness bug I've picked up from DS Blush.

Hope you're all feeling well & happy today Smile

Ps loved the sewer comment Carlita! Grin

babybrain3 · 28/07/2011 08:23

Carlita it's one i bought...it's adorable.

I'm going to do it in cream.

I am also loving the sewer comment...Very funny! :o

Got to start packing today for our camping holiday.... Luckily i don't feel too nauseous. Also Dc are going to a summer playscheme, so that will give me a couple of hours to myself to get on with it!

babybrain3 · 28/07/2011 15:55

I will be quiet for a while....Had to take my ipod in to be mended, so won't have it now til we get back from holiday...

eaglewings · 28/07/2011 19:54

Sorry to hear you were sick Davina, I had nausea today but that was more to do with having a migraine and having to go in the car twice to see Drs.

Saw the GP who was the one who was so kind when I had the MC. He rather surprised me by asking which hospital I wanted to be attached to for the birth, he gave me 2 options but allowed me to name a 3rd, have heard it's more relaxed about water births.

Will be getting the suitcase of maternity clothes out the loft tomorrow, they were given to me by a glamorous friend so excited to see what they are!

feekerry · 28/07/2011 20:01

who else is really bloated then????? I haven't put any actual weight on but everything seems bigger! boobs, hips, tummy. my clothes are so tight. anyone else??? do you think this will go away?? i already look 6 months pregnant, okay i'm quite slim but that makes the bloatyness look ridculas!!!

babybrain3 · 28/07/2011 21:04

Ok, scrap the being quiet thing....It was going to cost £50 to get mended, so have moaned a bit about needing a new ophone and Dp is getting me a proper iphone (instead of the ipod touch)!!!! Yippeee!! It is supposed to be an early Birthday present though...Yay, :o think i will have to wait until after our holiday though :(

mummyhopes04 · 28/07/2011 21:17

hi all time for a wee up date sooo I had my first scan today at 6 wks pregnant i'm under as high risk and experienced some bleeding on tue/wed EPAS arranged for me to come and get a scan and turns out I wasn't imagining it there is defo a baby there I must say seeing our babys tiny wee heart beat was amazing and I did get quite a few tears in my eyes lol although i've to go back tommorrow to get some bloods done and looks like i'll be on an injection for the rest of the pregnancy its looking good so far :o also would just like to say that Dorothy perkins have a wide range of maternity on their website and depending on what area your from some stores do stock a good range we have a store locator on the website allowing customers to see what local stores are stocking hope this helps x

knitterati · 29/07/2011 07:06

Hi all,

I might be quiet for a little while - the new update to the MN iPhone app has rendered it next to useless Angry - so if you have it - don't update!!!

@mummyhopes: the first scan sounds so exciting!! I can't wait till I get mine. Sometimes does feel like I'm imagining it - can't wait until there's a visible bump to prove it, rather than just feeling queasy and off colour all the time!

I did laugh at the sewer comment Grin I must mention millamia who do some beautiful children's knitting patterns and yarns. Think about taking on a baby grow as my next project! Smile

Over and out till the app is fixed!

babybrain3 · 29/07/2011 08:46

Thanks for the tip Knitterati will check it out! Hope you get your app sorted soon!

Gingersnap88 · 29/07/2011 22:05

Just wanted to say a quick thank you for the kind thoughts and to give a little update.

Went for my second scan today, they found the sac, the yolk, a wee baby and a heartbeat Smile I can't begin to describe how overjoyed we are. I'm measuring at 6+5 instead of 9 so it shows that it certainly is possible! Whilst in the waiting room before the scan, I had my first "proper" round of morning sickness (actually being sick) which I thought was a good sign!

My new due date is the 18th of March (instead of the 9th).

Good luck to everyone going through something similar, it's hard not to worry

eaglewings · 29/07/2011 23:32

Ginger that is such great news! It is wonderful to hear about a happy scan.
Enjoy

babybrain3 · 30/07/2011 05:32

Please could you all keep everything crossed for me, have got up early today to get going on our holiday and am spotting. It's bright red rather than brown:( am really hoping it settles down. I won't have access to the Internet while I'm away, so i'l update you all when I get back, hopefully with good news....

feekerry · 30/07/2011 11:14

Oh no babybrain. Keep safe and let us know how you get on. X x x

Carlitawantsababy · 30/07/2011 22:50

I've got everything crossed for you babybrain!

Carlitawantsababy · 31/07/2011 06:35

Sorry I haven't written a proper post for a while, busy busy so just catching up where I can!
davina how's the sickness?
babybrain that pattern is adorable!
feekerry yes! I am so bloated it is ridiculous! Most mornings I wake up looking more or less normal; by the time I go to bed I look 6 months pg! It's really funny, DH keeps laughing and looking confused! I still have no bum though so it's adding to the boy predictions, so far me, DH, someone I met through work and had to tell, my mum and step dad all think boy! If you guys want to give me your own predictions I will add them to the stats list so we can look back on them. Either give me the majority vote, or if you have had a mix of votes and you're feeling clever (the baby is eating my brain cells (in a non sinister way)) then work it out as a percentage vote!
eagle how were the maternity clothes? GP visit sounds good. I'm going to plan for a water birth too!
mummyhopes your scan sounds amazing, I'd have cried too! I got my letter through from the hospital yesterday and my scan is booked for the 2nd September! So excited! I'll be 10 weeks so I got lucky, can't wait! Good tip re Dorothy Perkins, my sis and I found it was the best on the high street when shopping for her.
knitterati I'll check out that website today whilst I have my mum with me as she is a supreme knitter (I got NONE of these genes!) thanks for the tip re the app, I won't update, let me know when it's fixed!
Ginger that is fantastic news! You must be absolutely over the moon, congratulations!
KikiRC, NG, moffit, pink, jozambia, badgercat, shortlady , Kirsty, notfromconcentrate, happycamper, mrsRV, wegotthere, reallea and everyone else who hasn't posted for a while how're you getting on? I'm still feeling fat and tired fab!

shortlady · 31/07/2011 08:40

Hi all, I still feel pretty good and normal. Off walking in the hills today, have my GP appointment on Tuesday, so might start to feel more real then. I head morning sickness can start to kick in week 6, so that could end my active phase very soon (making the most of it whilst I can).

worldgonemad72 · 31/07/2011 21:00

Hi all, well my exhaustion seems to be going now but the sickness is still as bad as ever, im living on toast, weetabix and bananas Sad , got a big bloated belly and my boobs have suddenly drooped overnight Blush
other than that ive told work im pregnant, it went ok. ive already told them i wont be going back, im going to see if i can claim MA instead of SMP.
heres hoping the next few weeks will bring some improvement to the nausea most of us seem to be feeling Smile

Carlitawantsababy · 31/07/2011 22:35

I'm not going back either world can't wait to tell them! What's the difference between MA and SMP then? Can you choose which you have? My work's policy only says about SMP.

OP posts:
ZhenXiang · 31/07/2011 23:10

Hi everyone,

Babybrain keeping everything crossed that all is ok with you x

Have been very tired and sick in the mornings and after most meals this week. MIL passed away a few days ago :( so have been very busy sorting out arrangements and getting less sleep than usual.

Am 9 weeks but already have a bump and only fit into two of my pairs of trousers. Have got first midwife appt on the 9th when I will be nearly 11 weeks and then will still have to wait for a scan appt.

SMP is maternity pay you are entitled to from a company even if you do not intend to go back if you have worked for the same employer continuously for at least 26 weeks into the 15th week before the week your baby is due.

MA is paid by the government if you do not meet this criteria. You might get Maternity Allowance if:

* you're employed, but not eligible for Statutory Maternity Pay
* you're registered self-employed and paying Class 2 National Insurance contributions (NICs), or hold a Small Earnings Exception certificate
* you have very recently been employed or self-employed

You may be eligible if:

* you've been employed and/or self-employed for at least 26 weeks in your 'test period' (66 weeks up to and including the week before the week your baby is due) - part weeks count as full weeks
* you earned £30 a week averaged over any 13 weeks in your test period

I got MA last time as missed the SMP criteria by a week.

Carlitawantsababy · 01/08/2011 08:20

Thanks zhen. Sorry to hear about your MIL, how awful, how is your DH holding up?
I'm a little confused, that's what I thought MA was, so, world why do you want it over SMP?

OP posts:
Carlitawantsababy · 01/08/2011 08:23

Oh yes, and by the way, I have had my scan appointment come through which I'm delighted about but several people have mentioned midwife appointments before the scan, the GP did not mention this and nor does my letter, can anyone shed any light on this? Smile

OP posts:
worldgonemad72 · 01/08/2011 19:27

I dont want to claim smp though my employer tbh, it caused so many problems when i went back to work, for example my boss (the wife) screaming at me 'do you know how much you've cost this company' , basically when i leave i want to cut all ties, im going to actually resign then see if i can claim MA directly from the goverment.
ive got my 1st appointment with the midwife a couple of days before my scan, i phoned up the docs, they passed my details to the community midwife and she rang me with the appointment dates, not sure how other area midwives work so it might be worth checking with the doctors about when you see a midwife.
