Brewing a March baby!

Hello! I've just found out that I'm pregnant and due on the 23rd March! I'm 29 and live in London with my husband, dog and cat. So far at 4 weeks things are going very smoothly! I'm very excited about going to the doctor (even if they don't care) as feel it will make things more real!
If you're expecting in March too please join the thread and share a bit about yourself and how your pregnancy is going!

re the heartbeat thing, the slower heart beats (120-140) tend to be boys and the faster heart beats (140-160) tend to be girls. its an old wives tale and obviously there will always be exceptions to the case BUT my mum works with a team of midwives and behind closed doors they've said to her there is some science behind it and its normally a good indication of the sex... obv they'd never say that to a patient but they do view it as a good indicator. Would be interesting to see who's turn out true to case after we've all had our bubs....
northern thats the most ridiculas thing i've ever heard. remember seeing something about this on the pregnancy board. what if (god forbid) something was wrong... you'd have to face that on your own! It annoys me alot as sounds like they have forgotton the baby is 50% yours and 50% partners. he has as much right to be in there as you!!! rant over!

so when is everyone's 20 week scans then? lets get a mini diary going. I'm 1st nov.......

Knitterati / Feekerry - the thread in Pregnancy was mine - just wondered if anyone else had encountered it as they went for their 20 week scans. Think I'm going to challenge it tomorrow when we go as it just feels uncomfortable to go in on my own! They do invite Dad in after they've done the measurements for a look but you're so right - God forbid anything is wrong I don't want to be lay there on my own being told...

KikiRC · 20/10/2011 10:26

Hello all,

Nice to hear how you're all getting on. My bump is dancing like crazy these days, especially at bedtime. My 20 week scan is at 21 weeks, that seems to be when they do it here:

20 week scans:
feekerry 1st November
carlita 4th November - predicts boy
Kiki 11th November. Initially had a girl inkling, now not so sure!

Hope you manage to get your DP in from the start of your scan, NorthernG.

X

Carlitawantsababy · 20/10/2011 10:49

Kiki how lovely to have a dancing bump!
Grin I just accepted an offer on our flat without it even going on the market! Estate agent came yesterday, got a couple in to view yesterday evening and they made an offer this morning! Grin

Ooh, great news Carlita! Are you going to start hunting in Hastings soon? Let me know if you need any info on good estate agents etc. X

DorcasGailen · 20/10/2011 13:05

Northern I dont live in the UK at the moment so there has been no issues with my weight but I am returning probably around mid December to the Liverpool area and am fully expecting to be put right into consultant care. Had an Obs appointment this morning and found out that I have only put on 3lbs in the last 8 weeks and my BP is fine now but from what i have read on here some bigger mums have not had the nicest experiences.
Carlita I hope you find a really nice house in Hastings soon. I have lovely memories from there, DP and I lived in Gravesend for a few years before coming here and one of our first proper dates was a day out in Hastings. In fact whenever my SIL came over from Ireland we always had to go to Hastings as there was a really nice pram shop that she always wanted to go to. (The woman is an expert on prams/buggies she has about 10!)
Obs has confused me now despite both scans putting me a few days back from what I orignally thought was my due date she has advised me to keep my original due date of the 10th March which means I will be offically half way in 2 days! :o

DorcasGailen · 20/10/2011 13:15

I have just been on the other March thread and they have set up a FB group. Mumsnet March 2012 its a closed group so you have to send a request to join, but think it would be really nice if a few of us at least join or does anyone want a separate "Brewers" group?

Carlitawantsababy · 20/10/2011 14:52

What would the FB group be for dorcas?
Kiki yes please! Any info you've got, I'm planning on arranging a few Saturday's to go down and see as many places as possible! Smile

OP posts:
DorcasGailen · 20/10/2011 15:39

Carlita I think it would be nice to be able to put names to faces and learn a bit more about each other but understand that some people like the anonmity (sp?) of Mumsnet

Carlitawantsababy · 20/10/2011 15:49

Oh I see, didn't think about it like that, I'm quite happy with mumsnet but would like something like a FB group for people in 'my' area seeing as I only know my parents and their friends in Hastings!

EsmeMrsP · 20/10/2011 18:21

Carlita congrats on the sale of your flat! We've had ours on the market for 3 months now and had a few offers but none that we have accepted as they were below our bare minimum price and not worth our while. We absolutely have to move before the baby comes as it's like living in a tin of sardines! (you wouldn't believe how many people have suggested we just stay here... duh, where would we put all the baby things???!).

Dorcas have sent a request to join the FB group - great idea!

Just adding myself to the 20 week scan list:

20 week scans:
feekerry 1st November
carlita 4th November - predicts boy
Kiki 11th November. Initially had a girl inkling, now not so sure!
Esme 3rd November - keeping the sex a surprise (am guessing boy though) Smile

I don't want to make you all jealous but am off to the Maldives on Tuesday for my honeymoon! Just did a weather check and it's raining though... rubbish!

knitterati · 20/10/2011 18:41

Oh Esme, I am green with Envy! DH and I went to the Maldives for our honeymoon - loved every second! Hope you have a fab time - and don't worry - even the rain is warm there!!

Can't repost scan dates on phone, so would be grateful if s/o would add onto theirs: 4th Nov (prob not finding out sex, initially think it's a girl, but now having my doubts)!

feekerry · 20/10/2011 20:39

i'm a saddo who doesnt use FB so happy on here!

20 week scans: in date order!

feekerry 1st November- predicting a girl
Esme 3rd November - keeping the sex a surprise (am guessing boy though)
carlita 4th November - predicts boy
knitterati 4th Nov (prob not finding out sex, initially think it's a girl, but now having my doubts)!
Kiki 11th November. Initially had a girl inkling, now not so sure!

KikiRC · 20/10/2011 20:55

Carlita, most of the estate agents are on or around Havelock Road which is the road leading down from the station. I found Andrews at the bottom very good, and Rush Witt & Wilson. If you're looking in the Old Town then John Bray is your best bet, on the High Street.
I also used a good solicitor called Gaby Hardwicke on Wellington Square who were professional and efficient.

May join the Facebook page later on, but there are still quite a few people on there who don't know I'm pregnant yet, it takes a while to get around to telling everybody.

Have a wonderful honeymoon, Esme!

Carlitawantsababy · 21/10/2011 00:15

Oh esme EnvyEnvyEnvy! Sorry to hear about your flat though, are any of them going in your area? We're very lucky as 1 bed garden flats are in high demand here at the moment so it's really pushed the prices up. We got a lot more than we were even hoping for. I hope you get a sensible buyer soon!
Kiki thank you so much for the tips! We're going to call them and arrange as many viewings as possible for the 29th, can't believe it's finally happening after months of DIY! Grin

Hi all

Just a really quick one as I'm dashing - had 20 week scan this afternoon and all is well - yey! (It was being a bit naughty and spinning around though so they couldn't get a decent look at the heart so we've got to go back in 3 weeks)

Couldn't get DP in to the start of the scan - prob first 10 mins - had a bit of a battle with the sonogropher but was told she couldn't change the rules just for me. Was a bit gutted and took the shine off the scan a bit though :(

Carlitawantsababy · 22/10/2011 11:40

Congratulations northern that's fabulous news, glad all is well, and you get a bonus scan too! Sorry you couldn't get DP in, stupid rule. Smile

OP posts:
KikiRC · 22/10/2011 12:54

Great news all is well with the scan Northern.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Carlita, feel free to pick my brains re: Hastings locations etc if you have any questions.

broodylicious · 23/10/2011 14:22

Sorry girls, what's this rule about no DP for the first 10 minutes in the 20 week scan? We have ours on November 7th (we're not finding out the sex) so interested to hear!

My sickness seems to have shifted now but still quite nauseous every couple o days. Can cope with it though. Just about. Mega mega tired all the time - my hour and a bit commute to work, plus horse duties slapped before and after work, don't help! Work have been amazing though and keep checking I'm ok and if there's anything they can do to help me so great news on that front Smile
How's everyone else coping? Xx

18 weeks today!

Carlitawantsababy · 23/10/2011 17:44

Thanks kiki! Looking forward to house hunting on Saturday, I'd really like to find somewhere on the west hill. Where would you say are the most desirable areas (we're looking to make an investment so would be good to know which areas are most popular. Smile
feekerry I've had my dream genii for 2 days now and love it, it is very comfortable ! I must say though, I already slept on my left hand side so don't know how comfy it'd be otherwise. I like that it doubles as a nursing pillow too.

OP posts:
feekerry · 23/10/2011 20:44

carlita good to hear re pillow. only thing is..... last few days its taken me ages to get to sleep. i turn about 200 times before i get comfortable. was wondering whether it would be a bit of a faff moving the dream genii everytime i turned......?

also, think i've had some mild braxton hicks today..... ive had some tightening feelings in my lower tummy. bit like someone put cling film round me. there not painful at all and very very mild but an odd sensation all the same. i did give the midwife team a quick ring today and they said all perfectly normal from the 2nd trimester onwards. anyone else had these? i'm 19 weeks now,- woop woop almost half way!!!!!

KikiRC · 23/10/2011 20:48

Good luck on Saturday, Carlita. On the West Hill I'd say St Mary's Terrace is the most desirable road- great views, beautiful houses and a nice community of artists/ creative types, many who have moved from London/ Brighton.

I'd stick to the bit of the West Hill closest to the Old Town or town centre- the Old Town is where you're most likely to want to mooch about or pop out to meet people for a coffee etc. Bear in mind that many of the 'normal' routes up and down the hill are incredibly narrow steep steps and would be impossible with a buggy- it might be worth having a good wander to suss that out. The further towards Ore you go or towards Mount Pleasant Rd, the bigger & better value house you'd get but you'd start being a bit further away from all the nice bits...

I've been thinking about a dream genii too, but actually have been sleeping a lot more comfortably the last week or so. I've found a warm hot water bottle tucked under my right hip tilts me onto my left slightly and is quite cosy.

How are everyone's bumps coming along? I didn't 'pop' exactly, but this week is the first time I've had a noticeable bump that doesn't just come and go. X

knitterati · 24/10/2011 08:05

feekerry funnily (or not) I think I've been having braxton hicks last night & this morning. Might call the MW about it today as it's really uncomfortable & worrying (being a first timer & worrying about everything). Hope your BH have gone.

KikiRC · 24/10/2011 09:27

Knitterati & feekerry- I've had just the same the last week or so, & especially at night. I didn't associate it with BH initially, but when I put two & two together & googled something like 'early BH' it came up that you can actually get them right from the first trimester, but often people don't notice them until much later, or put it down to something else.
Hope your MW reassures you, knitterati. (I'm a first timer feeling my way, too!) X
