Brewing a March baby!

Hello! I've just found out that I'm pregnant and due on the 23rd March! I'm 29 and live in London with my husband, dog and cat. So far at 4 weeks things are going very smoothly! I'm very excited about going to the doctor (even if they don't care) as feel it will make things more real!
If you're expecting in March too please join the thread and share a bit about yourself and how your pregnancy is going!

NotFromConcentrate · 29/08/2011 16:48

Carlita it depends on your cycle length. My cycles are generall 40 days+, and I ovulate fairly late, so my dates are completely unreliable (The MW had me as 14+ on my scan date - so that shoes just how far out they can be!) This is my third pregnancy, and each time my LMP dates have nowhere near matched my scan dates - I've always been less far on than they expected.

According to the sonographer the baby kept curling up and it meant the CR measurement was shorter than she felt it should be. Either way, the measurement I have is roughly accurate, but she expects me to be measuring a few days further on than expected at my next scan in 2 weeks' time.

All very confusing!

NotFromConcentrate · 29/08/2011 16:50

I meant "shows", not "shoes"!!! shoe obsessed

Moffit · 29/08/2011 19:04

I eventually had my booking in appointment yesterday at 10+2, as it was the weekend my husband was able to come with me and it has definately made it feel more real now!! I have been given my scan date, but got to wait until 20th September, by then I will be 13+4........dont think I can wait that long and my midwife did say I could call the ultrasound department tomorrow and ask to bring it forward if there are any cancellations. We have agreed to wait for the scan to share our news, but I will have to go in to hiding before long, firstly I am getting too impatient and secondly Im getting too fat to go unnoticed! Is anyone else keeping their news to themselves until their scan?

casperella · 29/08/2011 20:31

Hi moffit yes we waited for the scan too, my original scan date was at 13+4 like yours but I phoned and grovelled and got mine today at 12+4!!! As they do nuchal scan for Downs, I argued that there was a risk it would be too late to be viable, so they changed it without too much fuss.

Thankfully all was ok. Now officially due on 8 March instead of 10th as I thought.

KikiRC · 29/08/2011 20:57

Hello ladies,

I'm waiting 'til after my scan (7th Sept) to tell people. I'll be 12 + 6 by then. I have quite a few clothes I can't wear comfortably around the middle any more, but I don't think I look noticeably all that much bigger.

Can I ask those of you who have had your dating scans already- were you asked to go along with a full bladder? It says in the telephone-directory-sized pregnancy book I was given by the MW that this may be the case but there's nothing about it in the two pages of info I was sent by my hospital about the scan...

MrsMcJnr · 29/08/2011 21:25

Hello can I join you? Think my due date is 28/3. This will be my 3rd baby. I have a DS of 3.7yrs and a DD of 2.2yrs. I live in Spain. Really looking forward to getting to know you all :)

MrsMcJnr · 29/08/2011 21:33

my prediction:

The day you deliver, outside will be stormy. Your baby will arrive in the middle of the night. After a labor lasting approximately 14 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 15 pounds, 7 ounces, and will be 22-1/2 inches long. This child will have light hazel eyes and some auburn hair.

14 hour labour??? My first was 4hrs and my 2nd less than an hour (honestly!) 15lb7???? My first was 7lb2 and my 2nd 8lb8.

amusing though :)

MrsMcJnr · 29/08/2011 21:34

KikiRC - go with a full bladder. If they decide to do an internal scan instead they will let you go for a pee first :)

KikiRC · 30/08/2011 08:11

So, do they usually ask for a full bladder for a normal scan, MrsMc ? I'm wondering why they didn't mention it on the four sides of info they sent through.

The reason it's a bit of an 'issue' is that I suffer from recurrent UTIs and am usually encouraged never to hold in a full bladder, which triggers them. I've not had a UTI yet in this pregnancy, and I'd really rather not have one now! I might ring the hospital & check before I go.

Don't they only give internal scans if they're unable to see the baby because of high BMI?

JoZambia · 30/08/2011 11:08

kikirc I had 2 scans last week one with an empty bladder one with a full. I didnt realise I was going to get a scan on the first visit so hadnt drunk anything other than a small glass of orange juice. Could see the baby fine and I am very overweight! Dr asked me to have a full bladder for the next scan as a full bladder makes the scan more clear and therefore makes measuring easier - it reflects the image or something. I have to say i thought my first scan was clearer to see! That said last year i had to have a scan for PCOS, the sonographer said i hadnt drunk enough so I had to have an internal that time but think PCOS may be harder to spot than a baby! Ring up to check would be my advice.

KikiRC · 30/08/2011 13:22

Thanks, JoZ I wonder why they don't just tell people in advance? It would make life so much easier!

Moffit · 30/08/2011 13:38

Thanks Casperella, I have just called the ultrasound department and managed to get the scan brought forward by one week to the 13th September (two weeks today). I will be 12+4 then and I'm so excited, I cant wait to see that there is actually something in there! And then we can share our hopefully good news!

Kiki, my letter said you must go with a full bladder, their advice was to drink 1 litre of water an hour before your appointment. It said that this will fill your bladder and push your uterus up out of the pelvis, so that they are able to get the best pictures and all of the correct measurements. They did say that if they were unable to get the measurements required, you would have to go back for a rescheduled appointment. HTH

KikiRC · 30/08/2011 13:56

Thanks, Moffit. I just called the Ultrasound dept and they confirmed I should have a full bladder. Just a bit baffling why they sent pages of info about the scan, including parking etc, but didn't mention the full bladder. Would be frustrating if they had to send you away or do an internal just because they hadn't said. Anyway, moan over.

That's great news about your scan Casperella, you must be really pleased.

KikiRC · 30/08/2011 14:21

Oh, sorry- I meant Moffit again- sorry, doing too many things at once! X

ZhenXiang · 30/08/2011 14:25

Hi everyone,

I was told to go with a full bladder, but mine was so full the baby couldn't move into a good position for the scan so I got to wee. Bliss. Could still see the baby fine.

Glad for all those getting scans earlier than planned, it is lovely to see them for the first time, even if it is not your first one.

MrsMc - congratulations, looks like we will be sharing two threads June2009 and now March 2012. How are you, A and the rest of the family getting on in Spain?

MrsMcJnr · 30/08/2011 21:51

KikiRC ? glad you got the situation confirmed re the full bladder. Re internal scans, I guess it all depends on the health authority or their resources etc but they can get a much clearer picture especially if the placenta is to the front or your uterus is tilted or maybe as you say a high BMI. I have been in Spain 3 years now so maybe they don´t use them as much in the UK as they do here.
Moffit ? great news on an earlier scan 
Zhen -  Hello and congrats to you too!! Wonder how our June 2009 babies will react to these new comers!

MrsMcJnr · 30/08/2011 21:52

Sorry about the odd numbers, meant to be smiles!

ZhenXiang · 30/08/2011 22:19

Mrsmc - N has been very excited having met my friends 10 week old and now seeing pics of her new cousin who was born two days ago, she doesn't stop talking about having a baby sister. Hoping it's a girl now or she will be disappointed :) PS Gauchita is in labour, just thought you might want to join us on June2009 thread for a Brew while we wait for news.

KikiRC · 31/08/2011 15:40

Promise I won't talk about bladders again. Interesting about the internal scans, though. I'm glad I knew that in advance, I wouldn't like to have one completely out of the blue.

So, how is everyone? I've been a bit whacked the last few days. Partially because I had so much work on, I think, but also quite a few more funny stretchy feelings in my tummy/ hips, so maybe it's getting busy in there again...?

feekerry · 31/08/2011 17:27

all okay here KikiRC. my new anti sickness drugs working well and i'm almost normal again bar a few projectile vom moments catching me out! i'm still signed off for another couple of weeks so naps a plenty over here!!

knitterati · 31/08/2011 19:05

Hey folks, sorry I haven't posted for a while - been busy running around the country telling friends and family the good news Smile.

I have PCOS & had a surprise internal USound! It was with a private consultant, but she barely explained what she was going to do. It was a bit of a surprise! Blush

Still suffering with morning sickness - reached an all time low yesterday morning - voming into a clear freezer bag at a busy tube station Blush then had to trapse the evidence to the nearest bin (it is a big station) Blush urgh! Then made it into work and started sobbing quietly at my desk until concerned colleagues gathered round to find out why. Very embarrassing and gross all round. Maybe one to tell the little one with first girl/boyfriend!

Hope all is well with others? My scan is 1 wk today - cannae wait!! Grin

KikiRC · 01/09/2011 10:47

Oh, Feekerry & knitterati, sorry you've had such a horrible time with the sickness. Hope you have lovely, easy labours to make up for it.

My scan is next Weds, too knitterati. I've a big wedding on Friday- not sure if I'll have all the screening results back by then. It would be nice to let people know- especially as I won't see a lot of them in a while.

Moffit · 01/09/2011 13:28

Hello Ladies, sorry to hear that a few of you (feekerry & knitterati) have had such bad morning sickness. Hope you start to feel better soon!

Those of you that are having your scans next week, (Kiki, knitterati & feekerry) must be getting excited now, you will have to make sure you come on here and tell us all about them! I have got to wait until the week after for mine.

knitterati · 01/09/2011 13:40

Will deffo share my scan experience, although I am worried that I'll just cry with happiness the whole way through my scan! I saw one on the telly this other day and started welling up!

Did anyone else sob their way through the scan?!

Am starting to laugh about the freezer bag incident now! All part of the joys of bringing a little one into the world! Smile

Carlitawantsababy · 02/09/2011 08:08

Morning all! Sorry for those of you still sick, I really hope you feel better soon, maybe the 14 week marker will ring true for you, hope so!
I need to start filling my bladder as have my scan this morning, how exciting! Grin
