Gosh, there's so much news! Hi to all the new people on here and all those having scans. It's so exciting reaching the second trimester.

Happy birthday curlygirl! Hope you did fun things to celebrate!

It was my birthday yesterday - I do like having a July birthday. I went to London to see the afganistan exhibition and a play on Saturday and then had friends round for scones and cucumber sandwiches yesterday. It was great except I got a headache mid afternoon on Saturday and it still hasn't gone. :(

Sorry to those of you suffering that awful sciatic nerve pain - I've been having the odd twinge and that's bad enough. I can't think of any ways to get rid of it except rest. I have been told to get insoles as I'm slightly flat footed which leads to things like numbness in my toes. That might help some of you?

Giraffe: the pain you describe sounds a lot like sciatica.

Hello all

Thought I would stop by and introduce myself. Have been staying away intentionally as have has 2 early mc this year and was trying not to jinx things... as it turns out I may have been trying too hard as I had a scan yesterday (just for reassurance that everything was ok as I was a little panicky for no rational reason and the hospital took pity on me)... and it would appear that I am having twins. No family history on either side. To say we are in shock would be the understatement of the millenium. Completely and utterly freaked out would be getting closer to where our heads are. Maybe. Already have 1 dd - just over 3yo. Have nuchal scan on Thursday but as of yesterday I have 2 non-identical twins with happy heartbeats inside me.

Must confess that I haven't read the whole thread as there is reams and reams of it... so hello to everyone out there. Sorry to hijack slightly, just needed somewhere to vent a little - not going public in RL until after Thursday...

Any one else on this thread with multiple pregnancy/previous experience of multiples???

Welcome tabby congratulations there is another lady on her expecting twins too katy i think, although I havn't seen her for a while.

shannon get yourself (dd) some seabands, they work wonders for my DS who can bearly get out of our village sometimes without throwing up!

Just had the 12 week scan yesterday. All's looking good so far. The nuchal measurement was 1.4 which is well within the normal range but they say you can have a low reading in the scan that can be bumped up with the bloods. Hopefully not!

Due dates changed, it seems we're a bit further along than first thought so I'm updating the list. Considering I'm further along I'm even more anoyed that the sickness is still so bad. Not being sick except in the mornings but feel on the verge all day long (and into the night). Boo!!! The only thing that makes me feel better is eating and only during the actul eating. So getting fat, really fat!!! I thought I might get to lose a bit before the sickness went away but no fear.

Anyway I'm told it's all worth it in the end, anyone wish to confirm or deny? ;)

Hi everyone. Regular lurker due in Jan but not wanting to appear on a list with EDD showing etc until safely past 12 wk scan which is later this week, at last!!

Just popped into say congrats to tabbycat! And to say do join us on the 'Twins Club 2' thread here in ante natal too. There are abt 4 of us twin mums to be in first trimester on there as well as lots of ladies further on in pg and some with newborn twins. Good for multiple specific chat!

I'm starting to have odd stabby pains in my hips - it actually feels like my hip flexors - which I'm in a bit of a strop about. I've had hip/sacroileac problems over the last couple of years as I'm a little bit hypermobile, and I'm really worried that I'm likely to develop pelvic girdle pain or whatever they're calling it these days. I do yoga and pilates and am trying to be sensible about stretching (i.e. not enjoying my new found bendiness), but I just have this big fear about it. I'm going to have to resolve to do my exercises before I develop a real problem; unfortunately it's one of those things that there is contradictory advice about!

ps raven congrats on reaching 12 weeks and hope the scan goes really well!

pps: I still haven't had my nuchal test results from my scan, which was two weeks ago today! I just called the ultrasound unit and they muttered something about finding the ultrasound tech to ask what was going on. I'm sure they said it would be one week, not two. Since I haven't had a phone call I'm assuming that I'm outside the worrying range, but it would be good to know the actual stats. I don't know whether to blame the NHS or Royal Mail!

Congrats Tabbycatt. All my family were secretly hoping for twins with me. I am the nexus of all genetic pointers and old wives tales possible...only 1 though
My nuchal measurement is written on my pregnancy notes/baby audit trail...or is it the bloods? I was told they'd be about 2 weeks...maybe a bit more, maybe less, so I'm giving 'em 'til next Monday, or until I explode in a rage of hormones...

tabby welcome and congrats on the twins. xkatyx is also due twins but hasnt been seen in a while. My sister is in the same boat, her twins are due in Jan just as her dd turns 3y.

ghost I too have been having alot of hip pains, but I dont normally have any problems. Its like a constant ache in my hip bones/joints

I also had the fold measurements in my notes and then just over the 2weeks as promised I received the letter that I was to add to my notes. I presume they posted it on exactly 2 weeks iykwim.

Glad to welcome all the new ladies. After feeling rough with really bad acid reflux for the the last couple of days I finally feel better. Have worked out can't eat very much at a time and can't let myself get constipated. Will be calling the doctors to discuss if there are any meds safe to take to help the reflux which seems really bad at night but also through the day as the over the counter remedies aren't really helping.

I haven't posted in yonks - I don't get on here too often, so by the time I've read all the posts I'm too exhausted to write anything!

Anyway, had our 12 week scan today, and all good, little one kicking and wriggling (don't remember DD being that active - and she's still lazy!) Although apparently the view was impaired due to "maternal bowel gas"! Nice (made me laugh though - the sonographer was too polite to say anything to my face, so it's written on the report for all to see instead!) Nuchal measurement 1.5mm, so all fine, just hoping that I don't hear back about the bloods in any less than a week, as that'll be bad news!

Feeling enormously fat at the moment, and moved into mat jeans at the weekend - ahhh, the sheer joy of elastic!

Sorry to hear that some or you are still feeling dreadful - that's so not fair! But it'll be worth it. It will, it will! And congratulations and welcome to everyone new who's joined.

Apart from sickness/pains, hope you're not all feeling toooo bad!

I just got a call back from a rather lovely lady at the ultrasound unit - apparently my letter was mailed out on July 7th, just two days after my scan. Royal Mail grumble !

Anyway my nuchal results show 1 in 1200 - a perfectly low result apparently, though I would have preferred to see 1 in 1,000,000 or something like that . Phew. Good to know.

Can anyone tell me how to add my dates to the list??? PS just had a lovely 2 hr afternoon snooooooooze.....am in the Arab Emirates and the 45degrees+ heat is just a bit too much by 2pm...even me, a hardened 'under the water and keep cool' sunworshipper had to retire inside!!!!!! :) At least I can still get Nutella over here to indulge my fat pregnant bird urges...did half a tub with jacobs cream crackers aplenty last night uh oh....looking like a fat bird in bikini as just not quite big enough for it to be obvious that I am 'with child'!!!!!

ghost - I remember being disappointed last time that mine wasn't with several zeros at the end as well, but it's a figure to be proud of anyway!

fryn I know, and I shouldn't grumble.

I keep promising DH that we won't buy anything for a while, then getting sucked into reading reviews and looking on ebay and thinking 'oooooh! a crib for collection only just down the road and it's perfect! I should snap it up now!'

I definitely won't be buying anything until the twenty week scan, but that's looming fast. I have a mad busy October so I guess I could make major purchases in November - December is a write off for obvious reasons - but no one is going to put a sale on in November, so maybe some tactical buying should take place sooner than that? We're actually a bit short of cash right now after paying a chunk off the mortgage and installing a new kitchen (which is being delivered today and installed by DH and FIL in two weeks) so that rules out this month.

ghosteditor...I too am waiting before I buy anything...have had a horrible situation when I had just put in winning bid and paid for buggy on ebay and then lost the baby...the seller was amazing though when I explained things so didn't have the heartache of the buggy arriving : ( Am still trawling the internet looking at info re statistics of losing the baby at my stage (15+wks)...then accidentally bought a paper which had a feature in about still births... Found it heartbreaking to read the threads and then realise some mummies had had to leave us already xx We all have to be positive though...my friend who is recovering from breast cancer totally puts things into perspective for me as she was so positive throughout her illness and treatment. Guess we all just have to trust in nature / God / whatever our beliefs may be.....good luck to us all xx

Will try and buy lots of stuff in the boxing day sales; which I know is cutting it fine but last year bought real bargins from the next sale. I noticed they had lots of newborn stuff and of course it is winter stuff. I'm just doing research on buggys. Really resticted due to the fact that we will loose all out boot space as this is baby no.5 and we will be using our last seat in our Grand Picasso. Again the cot and certain other things will wait as we have a lovely crib that we used for the others. All I can say I am doing a lot of window shopping. Thinking I will have to go for a Britax Bmobile or the new 4 wheeler baby jogger city mini. Can only say to you first time mums don't do as I did the first time and go to over the board as I am sure you will have lots bought for you thankfully.

I think nobody will bother for my little bean especially our family, really sad that I think they will be so negative, wish I could make them say the right things now. WIsh me luck for the weekend as we are sending them letters then. Is any one else having a hard time about it. All my friends had family's that were over the moon about it. The trouble is they forget what they said I remember the harsh words when we told them the other 4 times, yes I do wonder if they realise the impact they have had on me over the years. Sorry to moan just need some hugs as the anxiety is really bad about this issue as I know we have to tell everyone soon.

I have my 16 week midwife appointment tomorrow. Does anyone know if she'll give me my blood results and if she'll be able to hear the baby's heartbeat?

Aw Nanny01 really sorry to hear your family are so negative. Why is that do you think? Families can be very strange. :( I've had difficulties with my sister recently (she sent me a really vicious email a while back) but she's surprised me by being very happy about my pregnancy. Maybe yours will surprise you too? If not, my DH was saying today that it's him, me, the bump and our dog that are family now. For us it's our first DC and it's interesting, since I've been pregnant I've started to feel slightly more detached from my family (parents and siblings) as my DH, bump, doggie and I are starting to feel like a proper family unit in our own right. About time too - I'm 38!! :0

Mum2be79 Do you mean your blood results from your 12-week scan? I would imagine you could ask for them if you haven't had them already. I was told mine would come through the post about 2 weeks after the scan (another week to wait for me) unless there was anything wrong in which case they'd ring me sooner. I guess every hospital/PCT operates a different policy though? I would definitely ask! I'd imagine they'd have rung you by now if anything was wrong, so hopefully no news is good news! :) Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

Mum2be79 I just had my 16 week appointment today, and yes they do go through all the results of the bloods that were done at the booking appointment (or that's when I had mine done anyway). So there was iron, glucose, blood group, rhesus, sickle cell, various things like HIV and syphilis (sp?). All good and normal with me thankfully. And she did listen for the heartbeat, but only because I asked...she said at 16 weeks it's still very fiddly to find- better from 17 onwards, and they don't want people to worry if it can't be found so she will only try if someone asks. She did manage to find mine, but it did take a while and then it seemed to move very quickly- she said it must be very active!

I was on another forum and someone mentioned the pee pot! I nearly forgot about that! It's in our fruit bowl (luckily sterile and unused!). I'm going to ask for her to try and find it if possible. I need regular reassurance despite my blooming tum! Also that dark line is beginning to appear down from my navel, albeit slightly off centred!!!
