parsley she is an everything is about me person. I accept this about her usually but when it affects my boys it really upsets me. I want my DC to be excited about these babies but she says things which make them ask difficult questions "what is a temtion?" (termination)(said by my 5 year old as its spelt) "does gran not love our babies?" I'm going to tell her today to keep her hurtful opinions to herself.
addicted Thankyou I hope it is nothing major

Belini I can't believe she could say that, how cruel. Ane especially in front of your DS's, that is just horrible. It is lovely that your little boys are excited though, how cute.
Good luck for today, I hope everything is ok.

falabalamb · 01/08/2011 11:31

Oh Belini, that's just horrible. My mother is like that too (everything's about her) and made a similar comment to me (although not in front of the children thankfully). It does amaze me how some people have no sense of emapthy, or at the very least, self control in expressing their feelings! Hope everything goes well today :)

Belini,- thaT is horrible. I saw my parents yesterday and there was no congrats from them its almost as if this pregnancy doesn't exist. I would get on and not try to involve them we told our kids that they aren't interested and were rude to mummy and daddy. I won't be showing the scan photos as my dad is only interested in doing up my old car as a project than a living human being. Dh's mum hasn't even called us so I am leaving it well alone. I suggest you enjoy your pregnancy with in your family and friends ( which in my case have been very supportive). It is obvious that you aren't going to get the approval you want . I have always had that problem to and will never be what my parents want. JUst remember you have here to. Hope your appointment goes well today.

had my 16 week midwife appointment today, heard babys heart beat it was 150 beats per min which mid wife was realy happy with. everything seams to be progesssing great now not been sick since friday!! anyone else been told to consider having the anti d injection?

ChocaMum · 01/08/2011 12:55

I think it's so sad that quite a few of you don't have the support you need from your parents, it's not much to ask. They don't have to be happy about it, just be supportive as parents should be. I feel so bad for you, so unfair. Nanny01 you are right to say enjoy it within the family and friends who are supportive, it is an amazing thing to be carrying a growing tiny human being and don't let anybody take away the magic.

mummyzoe you only need anti-D if you are a certain blood group, rhesus negative. If you are then it is very sensible to have the injection IMO.

Hey ladies,

Am back from Cornwall - not sure I can even attempt to catch up with messages today as am all hot and cross and drowning in emails at work. The humidity has brought the headaches back with a bang too. (having said that, Belini, just wanted to add my Shock at your mum and offer some general support)

Nanny we must have been very very close then as we drove through St Columb a number of times! We were at Egloshayle which is also near to Padstow. We had cracking weather and a fab time - I really enjoyed body boarding and a bit of kiting, but was a bit sad that I was deemed too pregnant to go surfing or horse riding. I must get used to it though!

Um... I too have been having ligament pains and am vastly relieved that I'm not the only one. My dream genii pillow has been very much appreciated for the last couple of weeks by the way - it has certainly worked for me.

Just one more thing to add - I just called the GP as someone recommended to see if I could get a prescription for a mighty bottle of Gaviscon. Apparently the GP won't prescribe Gaviscon in pregnancy as it is too high in sodium - so I'm getting something similar but less full of sodium. Am sure it's all a bit overzealous but just wanted to mention this in case anyone has been living off the stuff!

Hi ghosteditor

I bought the dream genii on Saturday and slept virtually 9 hours solid Sat night. First time in months. Felt so much better and loads of energy on Sunday. Very happy with it :)

got a new symptom!

Bloody tinnitus!!!!

I have it bad normally as I have damage which also means I wear 2x hearing aids. BUT last couple of days it has been really bad and is driving me a bit nuts tbh. I thought i was dehydrated as i know that makes it worse, but i've just googled and it seems it is a normal pregnancy symptom.

Anyone else have it?

If so, you have my sympathies......

Oh Belini HUGS!!!! Why on earth your mother thinks she is being in any way appropriate I have no idea! At least my Mum is borderline dellerious at the though of her 'baby girl having a baby', even if she does think I'm going to kill it/have social services intervention due to poor parenting/I might die from being too fat before it's born. I would definitely be telling her it's inapporpriate, especially in front of your DCs...or even better get Dh to do it, and she can then tell people how 'evil' he is and not you...as, well, if she's like my Mum, she's a drama-queen and a cryer... OR, just give us her address and we'll sort her out...gently but firmly.
Nanny You seem to have it well rationalised, though there is a little pull when your family disagrees...and that's just me feeling it wihout it being about Yolkis. hugs to you too.

Beginning to think of investing in a dream genii myself, but the prices seem to vary wildly (from about £15-£50!). Are there different 'versions'? Im off to John Lewis saturday, they sell them for about £60 for pillow and case (though I will get partner discount on topGrin) All the ones I've seen show a 'left hand side' sleeper, and I definietly prefer the right, always have (facing away from DHConfused), are they usable both ways?

Congrats on the 16wks heartbeating Mummyzoe. Off for my prodding in a bit. Form what I can tell anti-d isn't strictly for current baby's health, the concern is for future pregnancies. In a rhesus+ pregnancy baby may have complications next time round as you immune system will react negatively to it. There is a risk of viruses being carried in the injection, as it's made from plasma, not synthetically processed. There's a risk of allergy too, but both fairly minimal. They may want to give anti-d after any bleeding of if your membranes rupture early and especially in the lead up to birth. This site Babycentre and the nhs site has info on rhesus disease in babies nhs Sister in law is a rhesus- mum and felt a bit grim post anti-d but untimatly felt better...less sicknes, felt more energetic etc.

Welcome back to reality Ghost!

oeisha I do like my pillow so would recommend it. First up, I bought mine from the NCT shop as they had an offer on; it was priced at £39.99, but I poked around the internet and found a £5 off code, so I paid £35 plus a bit for postage, and I was happy enough with that really. Are you sure that the £15 price isn't just for a spare pillow cover? The patterned ones are around that price I think unfortunately. I've also heard that there are fakes around. You can get used pillows from ebay but I was a bit squeamish about that, given that it is between your legs for 8 hours a day Wink

Also, the reason it shows the left hand position is that lying on the left is apparently recommended during pregnancy for some wacky reason or other - but in fact it flips over the other way without problems, which is what I had to do last night when I woke up and could not fall asleep again on my left hand side (bizarreness). I know why lying on one's back is not recommended (pressure on the aorta which could lead to tingling or fainting) but I'm a bit fuzzy on the left vs right debate and am not putting too much faith in the argument to be honest.

Report
ParsleyLion1 · 01/08/2011 16:24

Oeisha I saw the NCT deal on the NCT website but went to JL for it. My JL said they only sold any kind of Maternity stuff in Oxford St or online *Grrr. In the end I faffed so much I made an impulse buy in Mothercare and it was £49.99 just for the pillow so you can defnitely get it cheaper than that if you're prepared to wait for it to be delivered - which I wasn't in the end.

The left hand side thing is supposed to coax the baby into the optimum position for an easy labour (not sure about how that works..). I'm also going to struggle with it as I have a trapped nerve on my left side which is sometimes uncomfortable if I lie on it for too long.

First I would also like to send Belini hugs! I hope things get better and your little ones sound so very cute and loving!

Second, wow, you girls are brilliant! Every time I come to have a quick look pages and pages have been added to the thread with interesting stuff! I always promise I will write more and then work just piles up and I never manage to, so annoying!

I love the dreamgenii pillow, never heard of it before and it looks so comfy!!! Although a bit on the pricey side...

My news? Today I walked 40 minutes on one of the hottest days ever to see my mw, just to get there to be told there are no mw appointments on Mondays Angry!

Had to walk back the 40 minutes (the buses to that area are just rubbish, it would take me probably triple the time by bus), was soooooo annoyed and eve worse no one could tell me if they actually have an appointment for me tomorrow as the mw are there only on Tuesdays. Absolute shambles!

So had to reschedule all of my week again, miss meetings, etc even though I don't know if I am going to be seen tomorrow!

Ah, but worse, I was walking around with my urine sample in my bag like a crazy old lady, completely forgot about it.. imagine if I fainted and they went through my bag....hahahaha, ridiculous!

Thanks guys. I'll order in advance to go to my local JL I think. If they can't get me one to Manchester by Saturday I'll be cross! - ohh apparently I could have it by tomorrow if I wanted! Alas the NCT seems to have run out of the pillow!

supa no tinitus for me. My sympathies. That'd drive me mental.

My 16wk appointment went well. Heard Yolkis' heartbeat...very reassuring. DH was with me, so he got to hear it too! Grin A prod of my flab and apparently everything's in the right place, so, excellent!
Also went to GP for results of my swab - 'just' thrush. Been prescribed the pessery. Hopefully it'll work. Should know fairly quickly apparently.

ParsleyLion1 · 01/08/2011 18:39

Oeisha I used to get thrush a lot - the pessary works quite fast so you should be OK. Good news on the MW visit - I'm still 2 wks away from mine.

Sorry greenlady missed your post. I don't understand why they couldn't confirm when your appointment really was - that seems ridiculous. I think my mw is only Tues & Thurs but they book it through the normal surgery so you can ring up and check.

I hope you didn't wilt too much after the walk. It's exhausting walking in this heat.

Report
ChocaMum · 01/08/2011 18:55

greenlady what a nightmare. I hope you actually get seen tomorrow. And be prepared, it's going to be even hotter. Not sure I could manage that much walking in this heat.

This genii sounds great, I haven't slept properly in ages because I can't get comfy, and it will only get worse. Think I'll check out my trusty amazon as well as John Lewis.

oeisha its great everything went ok today. I have my appointment tomorrow so I hope I get to hear the heartbeat too.

The left hand side thing is actually to do with your aorta also as it runs to the right of your midline, so by sleeping on your left to take off the extra pressure of bump on aorta, which means better blood flow to bump and to the rest of you. It's Been proven to reduce late miscarriages, still births and cot deaths. I know it's annoying, I don't find it comfortable, but please try it.

supa you poor thing, tinnitus sounds awful. Hope it goes away quickly.
