Mum2be79 · 14/07/2011 19:23

I've just bought some maternity jeans, jersey trousers and a long sleeved top from Next. The DH doesn't know and won't know until I take delivery on Saturday.

ghosteditor · 14/07/2011 19:24

First timer here! Very excited Grin

I haven't bought baby stuff yet - I think I'll start picking up bits and pieces after the 20 week scan. We also have two sets of keen grandparents-to-be who are keen to make and buy thinks for the little one.

I've bought quite a few dresses and tops which should tide me over for a while, plus a bump band in an attempt to get me back in my trousers! I definitely have a small bump but it's mostly fat, all that eating and not actually being sick Wink

Oeisha · 14/07/2011 19:34

Ahhh! Now Mum2be79 did next make you sign up for one of their accounts - as in one of their "Next Directory Accounts"? Their T&Cs make it sounds like it's an automatic thing...(REALLY not happy with being taxed their stupid catalogue every quarter, or them doing a credit check on me, just because they're too bloody lazy to stock short legs in their shops, despite having a petite section and stocking xl in store in their mat section).
Oh, btw if you have any experience with buying fat-ppl, short leg trousers for bumps let me know. I'm a 14S in next/m&s.

Oeisha · 14/07/2011 19:41

Oh and sorry! Welcome to all the newbs... [hsmile]
As you can tell form this thread, and the thread on 'Pregnancy' I'm a little pissed about the lack of maternity wear available for short people out there...

blueeyedmonster · 14/07/2011 20:12

I've been away for a few days and so many posts! This board sure does move quick!

Congrats and welcome to all the newbies!

mum2be hope you are better very soon.

I am officially in the 2nd tri now yaaaay. Am in some mat clothes and have bought some more. Tiredness is not lifting yet and I though it would have by now!

Anyone got any cravings yet? I've not but do get things to eat in my head and until I get them I think about it all the time!! I seem to be liking apples again but it's not a craving yet.

I have a noticable bump now which is odd as I have put no weight on Confused I might have to enjoy this food indulging (danish pastries and biscuits) until it does start to pile on!

This is my second dc.

I've bought a couple of nappies but am waiting to buy anything other than that till after the 20wk scan. We bought nothing for ds until after that and then spent loads in one weekend! I can't wait to go baby shopping again.

TiredGinge · 14/07/2011 20:13

Hi Everyone,

Thread is getting very busy - still not quite caught up with everyone but will do later.

Signed off work and given a course of steriod tablets to control my asthma which is rubbish. Feeling crap about having to take them but the doctor says it's more risky depriving the baby of oxygen which of course I can understand. 15 weeks today so hoping that baby is strong enough to cope with the steriods for 5 days.
Sorry for being depressing but feeling a bit depressed with it all.

LaBobkin · 14/07/2011 20:16

I know what you mean tigana - I just feel a bit fat and lumpy at the moment. Not big enough for maternity wear, and I've actually lost a bit of weight (revealing the extent of my wine / brie habit pre-pregnancy) so I can still get into most of my ordinary clothes. Except they don't quite fit or hang right, bigger boobs and bigger tummy makes them look funny. Very fed up and actually looking forward to being bigger.

Mum2be79 · 14/07/2011 21:12

I unticked the box for a catalogue and decided to pay delivery. But I think from the final payment page, it may have reversed. I will be sending it back though!

Feeling much better thank you! I'm back at work tomorrow. My colleague has told me long day. Some kids have extra rehearsals from 9:30-10:30 and then from 1pm until 8:15pm and on Saturday it is a 1pm until 8pm day for the opera 'Beached'. So glad the offensive lines have been removed!

sassylassie · 14/07/2011 21:51

Not had a chance to say how my scan went on Tuesday. Supadupapupascupa - glad yours went well! They dated me at 13 weeks exactly so my EDD's moved. Will update list in a mo. All looked fine with the baby sonographer said. I couldn't believe how much the foetus had grown in the 2 weeks since I had my emergency scan! Was told I'd have to wait 2 weeks for the results of the "combined test" (NT fold measurement, plus bloods), which seems like forever. We were really hoping to start telling people, but I'm a bit worried because of my age (38) so we decided to wait a bit longer... Although the sonographer didn't tell me the NT fold measurement it was on a piece of paper that appeared in my notes that I spotted afterwards - 1.8mm. Think that's OK, esp. for 13 weeks. Fingers crossed the bloods are OK too.

Sorry for all you ladies who are still feeling sick/exhausted etc. :( I actually finally feel like I'm coming out the other end of all that now... Actually caught up on some housework last weekend, and this weekend is total rest time - hoorah! (Well apart from hopefully a bit of maternity clothes shopping!)

scan day tomorrow me and dp are soo excited, will be my 3rd time seeing baby and dps 1st time on the screen. so carnt wait

Curlygirl72 · 15/07/2011 10:06

Good luck mummy zoe!!
I'm a first timer and as scan day is also my 39th birthday I'd love to have twins!! Might be only chance for more than one dc, took 2 years to conceive this time. Don't think it is tho as I've had no sickness and am not too massive. I do have a bump but suspect mostly fat from Italian food the past 2 wks!! I love it tho, it's like permission to be fat...
I hate next and their policy of giving you credit when you don't ask for it, never ordering from then again...

ghosteditor · 15/07/2011 10:12

mummyzoe hope it goes well - let us know!

curlygirl welcome back! I'm the same - loathe ordering from next online. The first and only time we did, they ignored our no-catalogue request and tried to charge us for it. DH called and complained and I think we ended up with a refund and free delivery. They proceeded to send the catalogue for ages. We don't have any maternity clothes stockists in Oxford (apart from JojoMaman nearby) but I'll be trying to avoid Next online at all costs!

I'm going to buy a maternity pillow soon, I think. I often sleep with a pillow between my knees as I have a few hip problems, so I may as well buy one early and make the most of it. I've been looking through a few product threads and the consensus seems to be that dreamgenii, mum-E pillow, and theraline are the best (super expensive though). Does anyone have an experience here? I'm currently leaning towards the dreamgenii as it looks least bulky, and NCT are having a sale. I may be being swayed by the fancy pillow cases too Blush

BunMyOven · 15/07/2011 11:00

Wow! What a busy thread! Room for one more? Smile

I'm moving over from the 'TTC a 2012 baby' thread so recognise a few names (hi!). Have been too scared to join this thread until I had my 12 week scan!
Had it this morning and was shaking and sick with nerves - so bloody rediculous! Everything was fine though and was given an EDD of 27/01/12, exactly 12weeks gone today. This will be our second and we're over the bloody moon!

So relieved, can you tell? Grin

falabalamb · 15/07/2011 14:40

Hi, congratulations on all the scans today and good luck to all those who have them coming up. Had my scan this morning too, baby seemed fine, bit squashed due to my very full bladder, sonographer even laughed at how full it was!! Dated at 13 + 6 but a bit confused at my EDD, sonographer gave it as 14/1/2011 whereas the consultant (a bit of a hag) worked it out as 21/1/2011 which I don't think sounds right at all, didn't like to argue with her she was so grumpy!!

Have been telling people this afternoon, and everyone except my mother are thrilled. I knew my mumm would react badly, she's been nagging me to go back to work full time since no2 was about 6 months and she's the type that couldn't understand why we had the second let alone why we would have a third. Well, she did react badly, all I got in response to the text I sent her (I'm too much of a coward to talk to her face to face) was that she didn't want to see me for a while. I've been crying my eyes out about it, it really shouldn't matter what other people think but it does unfortunately. It makes the whole thing seem wrong somehow and it's a new little life, this should be a happy day.

Oeisha · 15/07/2011 15:17

falabalamb Oh no! Never feel bad about bump. Parents are strange and unusual creatures that like to fuck-up their children in all sorts of unusual ways... Ignore you mom, she's obviously temporarily derranged, and will love your new squiggle just as much as her other GC.
I can't wait to see how I damage my Yolkis! Hmm

Congrats to all those with happy scans and gl to all those waiting. I warned my sonographer that my bladder would be full, and she was sensible enough not to laugh (might just have punched her) but did end up scanning me around my ribs to find Yolkis (who was breakdancing and would not be still), and did at one point mention that she might want me to 'go to the loo for a few seconds and then stop'.... she got from the look on my face that that really wasn't an option.

Despite being 13wks I still feel vile and have thrown up anything I've eaten today. Plain biscs, scrambled egg, a smoothie, a bowl of cereal. Havent' had it this bad since I was mid-cold and the coughing made me vomit all the time. :( Off for a nap...(luckily on holiday from work!)

ParsleyLion1 · 15/07/2011 16:19

Hi all, not posted for a while but have been lurking off and on. Felt too much in limbo until scan.

Welcome to all the newcomers :)

Had my scan this afternoon - bean waved at me and then jigged every time I laughed! Nuchal scan all seemed normal - just have to wait til Tues/ Wed for the blood results now. Quite relieved there was something there tbh, I hadn't realised quite how much I was paranoid about it.

They dated me at 11 +4 which comes out as exactly what the midwife calculated.

ghosteditor · 15/07/2011 16:30

hi ladies! falabalamb how lovely of your mum Hmm . Well, you're a grown up and I'm afraid she doesn't get to go all judgypants just because she doesn't agree. I want three kids too - will have to persuade DH - but I guess I should wait to see how this one turns out first Grin. Oh, by the way, I'm 14+1 today with an EDD of Jan 12th, but I have a short cycle (26 days) which they factor in to the EDD.

and oeisha that's awful. You will feel better at some stage, fx that it happens soon for you! Am busy being grateful that my near-constant nausea has eased up a lot in the last week.

parsley welcome (back)! My nuchal looked ok too - the measurement was 1.7mm and they said they'd call if there was a problem and I'm sure they said I'd have my letter within a week. It will be two weeks on Tuesday, at which point I'm going to have to cave and call (or ask a friend who works there if she can find out for me)

Oeisha · 15/07/2011 17:16

[hsmile]WOOT! I've kept an apple down, and snoozed away 2h!!![hsmile]
I had been wondering what a 'normal' nuchal was like. 1.4mm for Yolkis, so I guess that's alright. Blood tests over a week ago, in theory I should find out this week...
...incidentally, is it normal for veins to become more mobile during pregnancy (I've always had lowish bp). Took 'em 7 goes and different ppl, including the 'on site expert' and a butterfly to get the bloods out of me...

Oeisha · 15/07/2011 17:18

Oh, incidentally, the nickname for mine bump is 'Yolkis' (had an early EPU scan where is was still a sac)...anyone else using nicknames?

ParsleyLion1 · 15/07/2011 17:26

Thanks ghosteditor. They didn't ask me about my cycle - just was it normal. It is 25 days so a bit shortened, I'm sure a day or so either way makes little difference though.

They said the same re the timings for me as for you. They will only call if an issue otherwise the letter will come in about a week. Mind you, I haven't had my initial set of blood tests back yet. I'm assuming they were OK.

falabalamb sorry to hear about your mum's reaction, that's a bubble burster. I'm sure she'll come round eventually but in the meantime your pregnancy should be about you & your baby so try not to let her spoil things for you (easier said than done I know).

ghosteditor · 15/07/2011 17:29

Ours has been nicknamed 'tiny' by Dh's family in a rather sweet way (following on from another family in joke which I won't go in to!) I am calling the little bean 'Q' as she/he is a little omnipotent child of two geeks Wink

There are threads on here about nuchal fold measurements which reassured me a bit. Anything under 3mm (or is it 5mm, hmm...) is expected but I think they've given up on predicting about just the measurement and will only comment with bloods included. (just want to add that can't really remember properly so don't take my word for it)

SlightlyScrambled · 15/07/2011 18:06

Hi everybody and welcome to the newly arrived.

My scan went very well last week. Saw the baby jumping around for 30 mins and it made it all so real, finally. Nuchal measurement was good too at 1.6. Just waiting for the blood results now.

My bump is really showing now and seemed to grow today just after dinner. I thought the skirt I was wearing would get comfortable again later in the day but it never did, so couldn't have still been the food.

I've been calling the bump 'Jellybean'. I like having a name rather than trying to correct myself when I say 'He' and then add 'or she'.

Knittie That must have been a shock for your SIL about the gender. Hopefully she'll adjust quickly though.

Moobee · 15/07/2011 18:09

Hello! I've not been here for a while and there's load of new people! Welcome! :)

Oeisha: I've got a bit of a belly (pre-pregnancy!) and I'm only 5'2'' so I find clothes really hard to find. Jo Jo Maman and Mamas and Papas have some lovely fashionable clothes which work quite well with my figure - I'd recommend them. I tried Seraphina in London which had great reviews but it was obviously aimed at very tall women! That didn't work at all.

falabalamb: So sorry to hear of your mum's reaction. What business is it of hers how many children you have though? It seems so unreasonable.

I'm not sure if I have a bump yet - I'll be 15 weeks on Sunday but it's my first so I think you show later. I am definitely more round generally by I just look like I've eaten too much.

I felt a bubbling type sensation the other night in bed. It was just once. I was wondering if it was a first kick but it was probably more likely just wind. Grin I cant wait to feel those first kicks!

emmyjj · 15/07/2011 19:13

Hi all, can I join in?!

Brand new to mumsnet but just spent all afternoon reading this thread - I'm 15+6 with my first, due on 01/01/12 and so excited to find other mums due around the same time!

Had my 16week appointment with the midwife today, all good apart from being rhesus negative, but not too concerned as it just means an extra jab at 28 weeks and possibly one after delivery if the baby is rhesus positive.

Also had a look around the midwife led birthing unit, which has just moved to brand new premises - it's lovely, two spacious birthing rooms with pools, en suite, sofas, birthing balls etc.

Planning a home birth but might end up in the unit if there is a "rush" on and they can't get the required two midwifes out to me at home, so really pleased that the unit felt so calm and welcoming.

Good luck and congrats to those having scans, its so amazing to see the little one doing it's thing in there! I stupidly gasped "ooh it looks just like a baby!" to which the sonographer laughed and asked what else i had been expecting! Got my 20 week scan on the 15th Aug, which i can't wait for!

X
