Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
falabalamb · 03/07/2011 11:23

I agree moobee, there's probably no need to worry about the cheese. Enjoy the park shonnomanom.
I thought it might be fun to share some of the wierdest things we've wanted to eat. Mine was last week when I had to have tomato juice but there was none in the house so I improvised with passata, water and worcestershire sauce...it was pretty good!!! Anyone else got any wierd and wonderful food cravings?

Moobee · 03/07/2011 13:10

Thank you fifi, shonnomanon and falabalamb, its nice to have reassurance! I know I shouldn't worry.

I must be beginning to feel better as goats cheese crostini sounds amazing - can't wait to be able to eat that! I've not had any fun food cravings yet, just food anti-cravings. Much less fun.

Capybara · 03/07/2011 15:08

This isn't especially weird, but I woke up this morning with a violent craving for baguette with Nutella on it :) (I should emphasise that I haven't eaten Nutella for years!)

On the downside, morning (ha) sickness, which had got much better over the last few weeks, now seems to be back with a vengeance: I'm fine until the early afternoon, then I feel awful for the rest of the day. At least today I had a big Sunday lunch, so it doesn't matter if I can't eat supper!

Capybara · 03/07/2011 15:14

p.s. falabalamb, I go through huge tomato juice binge sessions - must have sunk pints and pints of the stuff since getting pregnant! The best is the trashy kind with lots of W'shire sauce, salt and even Tabasco if you're feeling brave :)

abeautifulbutterfly · 03/07/2011 17:33

Falaba: about a week ago I really needed blancmange Hmm but we had none in the house (except a packet of instant custard 3 years past its sell-by date...). All I could find was quick jel mix, so I made that up with milk instead of water and though it was disgustingly sweet, it hit the spot Grin. The next day I went out and bought 3 packets so as not to be caught out again. Uff!

Today it's cold and chucking it down here, so we've had a really nice lazy family cosy homey day, kids listening to Pippi Longstocking audio CD, I made a huge roast dinner, DH is hanging pictures we've been meaning to hang for years months. I had the feeling something was missing after my after-dinner snooze dinner and suddenly it dawned on me: bread-and-butter pudding. Real comfort food from my childhood. So I whipped one up and everybody loved it. We don't usually do desserts in our house, so it was extra special. Now the kids are racing outside splashing in puddles and getting soaking wet in the rain just before bathtime.

Those of you with older kids (mine are almost 6 and 7.5), are you getting impatient about when to tell them? I can't wait! Even DH said to me today "Shall we tell them?" But I want to wait until after 12-wk scan, looming on Thurs (not so conveniently timed to coincide with DD2's birthday party) and poss even wait for Papp-A test results, though that will be 2 more weeks, don't know if I can wait that long! My girls really want a baby brother or sister anyway, so I know they'll be over the moon, they've been nagging me for ages.

Have a good week!

abeautifulbutterfly · 03/07/2011 17:36

PS Capybara I'm feeling something similar with the afternoon sickness. Not as strong as it was before, but some afternoons I really don't feel good. Just when I thought it was behind me as well.

BigHotMama · 03/07/2011 20:19

I felt like nausea was getting better but today felt really drained and tired aswell. Only 10.5 wks so hopefully go away soon.

Only cravings I seem to be having is frozen jubblys which I enjoy chomping on but I seem to still be off certain foods and smells.

Ww told d's straight away so to him it will be a long 9 months but every day he talks about how big baby is and he wants a little sister called Holly lol makes me laugh how kids have it all mapped out in their heads.

Scan is 2 wks tomorrow so will prob have to tell work very soon to get time off, that's if they haven't guessed by size of my belly already Blush

shonnomanom · 03/07/2011 20:50

moobee im very much the same, more anti cravings than cravings. I miss cereal especially my porridge Sad

aaahhhhh bagette and nutella, that sounds delicious capybara

Although I have found myself wanting to try things I either dont like or havent had for years. For instance, DP was gobsmacked to find I had drank half his can of IrnBru. Havent touched the stuff in about 12years!

We told dd early, well actually she over heard us talking at about at 6weeks. She understands that Santa is to come first then its the baby. We got her a story book about the baby in mummys tummy and we have read it EVERY night since we got it. She demands it!

We had a lovely day in the park today, gotta love the sunshine!

Ps, my dishwasher is acting very strange, it better not be broken!!

shonnomanom · 03/07/2011 20:54

Stupid question. Maybe..?

Im not a 'tanned' person. In fact im very pale and my legs put chalk to shame. However we'r going to a wedding next week and I would normally where tights to 'calm down' the paleness. However its to be roasting and my belly is getting bigger (will be 15/40 then) and tights is just a horrible thought.

My question is... Is fake tan ok to use when pregnant? Im sure it is, surely.
And can anyone recommend a good, natural looking one

Curlygirl72 · 03/07/2011 21:12

Hey ladies, am writing you from my honeymoon in Sardinia!! Having an amazing time and eating all sorts of things I shouldn't: Parma ham, prawns, squid, random cheeses... Hoping the kid wont mind, seems fine so far!! Have even had some wine, quarter of glass at dinner some nights... Makes me feel more human so I figure must be a good thing. Blimey, I really am in carefree holiday mode!! Feeling very happy and lucky, almost past the big 12 week mark and scan as soon as we get back.
Hope you all stay well. Smile

BigHotMama · 03/07/2011 21:52

Shonna that books sounds lovely idea which one is it?
As for tanning creams I've been told that fake bake is the best and can buy it from savers cheaper.

Wow curly sounds like your having great time enjoy the rest of your honeymoon!

ghosteditor · 03/07/2011 23:04

Hi ladies! Am on the phone so haven't read all the new messages, but finally told my parents about the pg today as they made a surprise weekend visit. It took me ages to work up the nerve! Had planned on waiting until after the scan but couldn't miss the chance to tell them face to face. They are very excited and supportive as I knew the would be - not sure why I was stressed about telling them, but I'm odd about funny things like this. So pleased that they know though; I hate keeping things from my family!

Scan on tues Grin

Moobee · 04/07/2011 07:58

Excellent news on telling the parents ghosteditor. I was nervous about telling mine to - it felt naughty. Grin

ghosteditor · 04/07/2011 09:22

shonno I wondered the same thing about fake tan - I wanted a spray tan but the leaflet from the salon said that they wouldn't spray pregnant women. I've head a lot of contradictory stuff about why they won't do it; some won't in the first trimester, others won't because your skin can be patchy in pg and they don't want to be blamed for a patchy result, and still others because there's been no significant scientific testing about the effects.

In the end I just bought St Moriz as I'd seen it recommended on here. It was quite good but didn't give a very strong effect (I left it on for 6 hours but only used it once before a holiday). The mitt applicator thing is useful and a handy hint is to wear waterproof gloves while applying then just add some to the back of your hands once you've finished. Otherwise you end up with tell tale orange palms!

shonnomanom · 04/07/2011 09:23

Thanks bigmama. the book is There's A House Inside My Mummy

Glad you told your parents ghost, one less thing for you to worry about now. Good luck for a happy scan tommorrow

moobee I know what you mean. When I concieved dd I was really nervous about telling my parents. I felt like telling them meant that they would find out I had had sex Blush Daft I know!

ghosteditor · 04/07/2011 09:24

moobee I still feel a bit shy about it! Have yet to tell work and lots of my friends. I just feel that dealing with everyone else's expectations and emotions is really exhausting and draining. But I'm all hormonal and emotional at the moment which is making me oversensitive.

Had a bad night's sleep last night and now there is a building being demolished immediately behind my office and there's no double glazing. Just want to curl up under my desk and hide from the world! No can do today.

I'll be almost ready to go into my scan in 24 hours! [does happy dance]

greenlady78 · 04/07/2011 10:17

Hi ladies, seems like everyone had a lovely weekend, with good food, er, or weird cravings :) and the suns was shining so pretty good! Unfortunately I had a bit of scare... :( so did not the relaxing weekend I was looking for! Had some bleeding on Saturday, had to go to A&E and had a scan yesterday, which showed the little bean hanging in there and doing well! Less stressed now but just praying all will go well :o take care ladies wishing you all a fantastic week! xxxx

Moobee · 04/07/2011 10:53

shon that was exactly my feeling!

I'm finding telling people to be, well, mixed. Some are thrilled which is great, others are offering detailed advice on what nappies to get (and implying any way but theirs is wrong). The worst though is that I've told some friends and then found out they're having difficulties TTC or worse, have been told there's no chance. :(

I have two friends I know can't have children. I told one and tried to keep it low key and she just replied, 'oh right' so I changed the subject. I still have to tell the other. I'd rather tell them myself rather than let them find out via Facebook but it's really hard and I don't know how to broach it.

Hope everything goes well at the scan tomorrow ghosteditor!

Moobee · 04/07/2011 11:19

greenlady78 hope everything is OK for you, glad they're still doing well in there! x

Capybara · 04/07/2011 14:26

glad everything is ok greenlady78 - that must have been pretty frightening :(

Well done for telling your parents ghosteditor - I'm feeling strangely apprehensive about that too. hope telling your colleagues, friends etc goes well too.

Today's hilarious nausea story: was leaving home with DH this morning and nearly gagged at the awful smell inside the car. Was convinced that I had left a bag of shopping to rot in the boot or something (pregnancy brain) but a thorough search revealed nothing. Eventually it turned out that DH had eaten a fish-paste sandwich (!) shortly prior to departure and that's what I could smell :) If this - super sensitivity - gets any worse I'm going to have to sprint to the corner shop to avoid gagging on urban street-smells.

falabalamb · 04/07/2011 16:52

Grin Too funny Capybara, ugh fish paste, I don't think I could eat that pregnant or not!! I wretched walking in to the petrol station today, there's a coffee machine right by the door, I nearly ran back out again.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one nervous about telling my family. My mum can't understand why anyone would have more than one child (we already have 2) and I just know she's going to be disapproving, I keep trying to tell myself that I'm an adult and it really isn't any of her business but I think we all want our parents approval (or maybe it's just me!!) I'm putting it off now until after the scan, whenever that may be.

BigHotMama · 04/07/2011 18:21

Greenlady glad your little bean is ok must have been really scary, it's one thing I get paranoid about when going to the toilet.

Talking of smells I have been smelling cat wee from orange n passionfruit squash wtf? And driving back home in this heat has the worse smells such as rubber mats in car, fumes from cars and down one street I pass stinks of pickled onions lol not good no wonder I feel I'll when I get home blurgh!

Thanks for link shonno will get a copy of that book looks fab x

shonnomanom · 04/07/2011 18:58

greenlady what a fright, glad your bean is staying put x

Thats a difficult situation with your friends Moobee. Im not really sure how I would be in the same situation although I do agree that it is best that they find out from you and not Jo Blogs.

I refuse point blank to empty the bin, yuck. Dp has compared my extra sensitive nose to that of a sniffer dog. Charming I know. Smile

Falaba my friends MIL is like that also. She had twins and didnt approve when both her DIL produced their 2nd DC, then my friend announced she was having DC3 and was told that they were being stupid. MIL didnt hide her feelings in public either. Made things a bit akward tbh.

Dinner has just arrived, yum yum

Hope your all well
Sho x

blueeyedmonster · 04/07/2011 19:53

Glad all is ok greenlady I know how scary that can be.

Had my scan today and little bean is well. It's all feeling very real now! I have been put back a couple of days which I expected tbh.
