Bee 20 week scans are pretty thorough as they can see much more than at the 20 week scan. As long as baby is in a good position they'll be able to check all of the internal organs and make sure everything looks healthy, when I had my 20 week scan with DS I was even told he'd just had a wee and got a close up pic of his face!

plu glad the scan went well, have a nice hol and hope the move goes ok.

DarciesmumandBump2 · 11/07/2011 17:27

Hey.

Ty that's a shame about your mum being pushy.

My 20 week scan is 10th August and we are not finding out as DP doesn't want too. I'd like to however. Kinda hoping the sonographer let's slip he/she is growing and behaving well Grin

sevendwarves · 11/07/2011 17:37

Sorry, should have said more than the 12 week scan, baby brain!

xstitch · 11/07/2011 18:07

Just popping in, haven't had time to catch up. My scan is on the 25th Jul.

Mizza76 · 11/07/2011 19:13

Had my consultant appointment today. All's ok. Scan next week - a little early (18+6) but I'm going away for 6 weeks later next week and couldn't get it done otherwise. I would love to know the gender (already have 2 DDs, although would be happy either way for the next one) but my husband doesn't, and I couldn't keep that secret for 2 minutes! A friend of mine gave birth last week to a boy. She had known for half her pregnancy that it was a boy while her husband didn't, and she didn't let anything slip....

Mizza76 · 11/07/2011 19:15

Oh yes, one thing I did discover today is that I've put on a massive 7 kg. Well it feels massive anyway esp as I lost 20 kg (over 40lbs) after my second baby - now put a third of it back on Shock

Awomancalledhorse · 11/07/2011 20:12

Spent 3 hours in Bluewater (I hate shopping so it was tortue) looking for maternity clothes, found nothing in my size! Ended up in New Look buying some 'floaty' dresses as nothing fits me.
Have been online for 2 hours and still only found one thing I like (in my size), everything I want is sold out, damn all you other pregnant women for beating me to the shops [hgrin].
Mizza, I've put on 7kgs too! Think most of it is on my boobs!!

How is everyone doing?
My scan is the 2nd week of August, we're not finding out what we're having, have got the 16wk mw appointment later this week!

figgygal · 11/07/2011 20:16

I've got mine on 21st can't wait to find out will def find out and if it's in an awkward position will pay for private scan might do that anyway just to make sure they get it right.

I'm 18 wks and have been feeling movement for a week or so it's lovely not looking forward to being freaked out by proper kicks.

msbuggywinkle · 12/07/2011 08:56

Anyone else still sick? If I get even a tiny bit hungry, I start retching like mad. Not helpful when I'm trying to take antibiotics! I've had enough now, it has always stopped dead on 12 weeks before, 17 weeks now!

Figgy proper kicks are so much fun, mostly trying to work out which bit you're feeling.

AWCH I hate shopping too, I'm enjoying not needing to buy maternity stuff this time!

kri5ty · 12/07/2011 09:55

aww plupervert thats brill news :)

A lovely girl hehe

Awomancalledhorse · 12/07/2011 13:13

msbuggywinkle, woke up today with a horrible bile-y taste in my mouth & nothing I've eaten has got rid of it. Making me feel really sick.
I'm just going to buy a bundle of clothes in the next size up on eBay, bugger maternity clothes!

Glad the scan went well plupervert!

BeeMyBaby · 12/07/2011 21:29

so had my scan today, everything seemed fine and the sonographer said there was no soft tissue markers or anything like that, and explained everything really well (much better than my 20 week scan for DD). Didn't find out the sex although DH says he reckons he knows, but won't tell me until its born.

msbuggywinkle loving having the clothes from last time too, it was great getting them from the attic at the weekend and just getting to relax.

kiteflying · 13/07/2011 04:47

Msbuggwinkle, I am still sporadically feeling sick. I was the same with DD at about this time, it would creep up on me slowly over the afternoon and then I would be hard pressed to face dinner (and this time around I have to cook dinner first which is just yuk). So even though it is less overwhelming than during the first trimester (when I could not move for most of the day) it is still disruptive as I have to squeeze as much as poss into the morning.

I am not shopping either - although my maternity stuff is, size wise, from opposite seasons to first time round, and I seem to be bigger all over four years later!

Congrats to all who have had good 20 week scans.

beemybaby - stay strong if you don't want to know!

kri5ty · 13/07/2011 08:00

Hmmmm a little dillema...

i want to know the sex, My Boyfriend doesn't... although he is ok with us finding out (i said i would find out and not tell anyone, and buy stuff, and hide it etc), But he said if i knew he wanted to...

My question is, should i let him have his suprise? I know it would mean a lot to him, but i feel like by finding out, it will help me plan, but clothes, decorate, choose a name, and i think it will help me bond better... I just donlt want all cream/yellow clothes etc x

aethelfleda · 13/07/2011 08:19

Can you ask the tech to write it down and put it in an envelope? Then you can not know, but discuss at your leisure with DP if you l

aethelfleda · 13/07/2011 08:19

If you look or not!

(ps and you could always steam the envelope when he's out!!!

kiteflying · 13/07/2011 08:38

Have you thought about how much fun it might be to buy pink or blue clothes with your baby in your arms? I know because I have done it!

You need some treats for after the birth - gets you through some of the hard stuff.

msbuggywinkle · 13/07/2011 09:21

Glad I'm not alone in feeling sick, but its pants for all of us. I've not felt sick for so long before, with the other 2 it stopped dead on 12 weeks!

I have a friend's blessingway (hippy baby shower) tomorrow so I'm baking lime and coconut cupcakes today and we have friends coming round for a chat and so I can meet their new baby!

Names are already decided here, so DC3 will get their name at the scan like DDs 1 and 2 did. I know that makes us odd, but it somehow just works for us. Still can't get my head around being pregnant at all though!

kri5ty · 13/07/2011 10:26

the only reason i am trying to be so prepared kite is that i have ME, and there is a very strong possibility that the birth will cause me to have a relapse, meaning months of not even being able to get out of bed.... but i guess here is always the good old internet and home delivery!!

aethelfleda i suggested that to him but he said if i know he wants to know haha x

ThePippy · 13/07/2011 11:37

Hi kristy the only thing I would say about being too organised is that you can't plan for how big your baby will be, so be careful about buying too many clothes, especially season specific ones, as you simply won't know when they might fit. I had people buy my DD loads of summery things after she was born (she was an August baby) and some 0-3mth stuff never got worn as she was just too tiny to fit anything during the summer months and still now at almost 2yrs can get away with 9-12month trousers. I actually tell people how big she is now (i.e. 82cm) and tell them to use that as a guide to buying the right size and ignore the age related sizes on clothes, as she just doesn't fit her age.

On the subject of finding out or not, I didn't with DD and it was a lovely feeling knowing I had the surprise to come when pretty much all my friends new what they were having. On the day of her birth I actually totally forgot to ask, I was just holding this tiny baby in total awe of what had just happened and it was the midwife who asked if I wanted to have a look at what I had!

I am going to find out this time however as we think it will be easier to get DD to understand and be prepared.

kri5ty · 13/07/2011 11:54

Thats a good point pippy , if it takes after me, i was in dolls clothes as everything else was too big!!! I guess people will buy clothes as gifts when its born...

hmmm i will see how it goes on scan day i think... i may get too over excited and ask haha

We have decided on a jungle theme for the bedroom, so that wil be unisex anyway :) with lots of bright yellows/ oranges / greens etc.. then if a girl pops out, we will have a good few months before she will be in there to buy a few pink items to go in too!

ThePippy · 13/07/2011 12:00

Love the jungle idea. I don't mind pink but I have to say after a few months (and LOTS of pink gifts) I was pleased to dress her in something other than baby pink which seems fairly standard in a lot of baby girls clothes!

I was told before my scan by a friend that the hospital we use wouldn't mention the sex at all (not even ask if we wanted to know) so I knew that as long as I didn't mention it then I would be safe from temptation. I'm sure if she had said "do you want to know what you are having" it would have been much more difficult to stay strong! I was actually totally blown away by what was on the screen and it didn't occur to me until afterwards that my friend was right and they hadn't mentioned it. Good luck whatever you deicide!!

kri5ty · 13/07/2011 13:20

yes one near where i used to live doesnt tell you the sex... and its a very sad reason why!

Thanks girls, you have all actually made me think about how great it'd be as a suprise!! :o

sevendwarves · 13/07/2011 20:47

Hope everyone is ok.

Ive been getting worried over the last few days that I hadn't been feeling many movements. I've felt flutters since 13 weeks and was therefore expecting at 17 weeks to be feeling more than a kick every couple of days. I managed to make a last minute appointment with my MW and got to hear the heartbeat earlier so i feel much better now. She also said it's done routinely here from 16 weeks so she'll find out why the MW who was filling in last week didn't attempt to find it.

Has anyone else not put on much weight yet and does it mean I need to be eating more? I've still only put on 4lbs despite going up by 2 cup sizes. I'm managing to eat breakfast and lunch but when it gets to my evening meal I just don't feel like eating even though I'm not full.
