Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Twittwooo · 13/06/2011 22:12

Have other people been offered the flu vaccination? I was offered it and think I will make an appointment to have it done in the next few weeks, but I'm not sure if it's too early? It would be good to hear other people's thoughts.

Hello pinkhollie, welcome to the forum.

I was last winter when pg with dd1 but refused it. think its reccomended you wait till after first trimester though?

diedandgonetodevon · 13/06/2011 23:45

twittwooo as an asthma sufferer I will be having a flu jab but they don't usually drag me in for it until october/november time so I am going to wait until then.
As Lola says, I would probably want to wait until after the 1st trimester for anything non-essential.

Twittwooo · 14/06/2011 07:09

Thanks for the advice, I wasn't sure about having it during the first trimester but the doctor mentioned it so soon it made me wonder. I also have asthma and don't usually choose to have it but being pregnant I feel it would be better to have it than to get flu. As far as I know there are no reasons not to have it done while pregnant (apart from the usual yukky response to it) - does anyone know different? I'll speak to the midwife at my appointment and then probably have it done after my 12 week scan sometime.

melliebobs · 14/06/2011 14:31

One way ticket to February 17th please! Just got bfp today n that's the date the mumsnet due date calendar gave me!

mistressploppy · 14/06/2011 14:40

Hooray Melliebobs! Welcome, welcome!

LolaRennt · 14/06/2011 14:42

Morning all! (my time anyway)

Can't believe I'm wishing for morning sickness, anyone would think I didn't spend all of last summer looking for toilets and bins to chuck up in!

puzzletree · 14/06/2011 14:47

Hi All! Just back from first midwife appointment. Consisted mostly of answering lots and lots of yes/no questions even for a third timer like me. Good to get on the system though, and meet the new midwife who seemed lovely. Starting to feel a bit real now :)

melliebobs · 14/06/2011 16:18

Congrats puzzletree. So how long do u recon I'd have to wait roughly for my first appointment with a midwife?!

chocolatesparkle · 14/06/2011 16:55

I think that normally midwives try to see you before 10 weeks. It depends if you self book or if you have to be referred through your GP.

Where i live you self book as soon as you like, so i saw midwife at 6 and a half weeks. As long as youre taking folic acid and read up about dietary advice, i dont think that there is any particular hurry to see midwife before 10 wks.

Hope that helps

currybaby · 14/06/2011 17:33

Congratulations to those who have just found out. Was only a week and a half ago i found out and feels like a lifetime. I have a question - i'm sure i read somewhere that you shouldn't get your hair dyed when preg but mine needs doing. Is this true and if so is it just the first 12 weeks? And is home dye ok? Have any of you done it. I have too much grey not to aahhh

diedandgonetodevon · 14/06/2011 17:58

Currybaby, I'm sure I remember reading the same about hair dye last time around. I have, however, just dyed my hair as it needed doing...and will continue to do so as I need to keep the greys covered and I'm only 30 sob

EsmeWeatherwax · 14/06/2011 18:17

Currybaby, they say the amounts of dye you would need to use to have any effect on the baby would be huge, I've certainly always dyed my hair when pg, lol, otherwise my nickname would be badger head!

melliebobs · 14/06/2011 18:29

thanks chocolatesparkle i'm in no rush just excited to get the ball rolling! GP has reffered me so sit and wait! As for the hair dying i got mine done the other week (bleach i may add!) and in prep asked the hairdresser if i'm still ok and he said there's no reason why i shouldn't cos the amount needed would be bloomin loads. He did say however that although i've had bleach loads i'd have to have a patch test done as i may have become sensitive to it. So i'm guessing that's the same with other dyes.

puzzletree · 14/06/2011 18:43

melliebobs here we book directly with the midwife so this appointment was I guess equivalent to your gp appointment. I'll see the midwife again in 4 weeks to do things like take bloods, urine check etc.

I did have to decide about prenatal testing as it needed to go on the scan referral, they do nuchal scan now which they didn't do with the boys. I decided not to have it done as we didn't get the bloods done last time, wouldn't want invasive diagnostic tests, and ultimately wouldn't terminate unless there was a massive medical problem with the baby, which I'm assuming would be picked up on a scan. Just wondering what other people are doing. These decisions are tough!

LolaRennt · 14/06/2011 18:56

puzzletree I had my 12 scan but asked for them not to do the nuchal check as we wouldn't test further anyway. You can still have the scan :) nice to see. We'll do the same this time.

I believe hair dye is considered Ok, just do it in a very well ventilated room, and if you are having mornnig sickness at all- avoid avoid avoid!

AlpinePony · 14/06/2011 19:51

I dyed my hair on Thursday, bfp sat which is typical really! Will dye again, but probably now wait until second trimester.

No flu jab this end as I don't use public transport, work mostly from home and live in a small town - so assess my risk to be very low. Might do otherwise if I took the northern line on a daily basis.

Am unsure about testing. Last time had none as we knew we wanted the baby no matter what. It's Edwards which terrified me. A termination at 12 weeks would be shit, at 20 plus devastating. :(

puzzletree · 14/06/2011 19:51

Thanks Lola, I presumed they would still do the scan as normal, and add the nuchal measurement on if required.

runaroundstartsnow · 14/06/2011 20:33

Hi all ,i just had my scan and very relieved to see a baby with strong heartbeat, Dr thought i was around 7wks pg but i thought i was only 6wk3.
I have another scan in 2wks time though.
I had scan due to previous ectopic and mc.
I dyed my hair today, as far as i know the only reason they advise caution is you can sometimes become more allergic to the dye or your hair may react differently.

gonerogue · 14/06/2011 21:25

Hi runaround that's brilliant about your scan - I am Envy you've had one already but understand why you did. I remember the first time I heard DD's heartbeat - after my previous MC it was the best sound I had ever heard.

I dyed my hair the day before my BFP - but as everyone else says you would need bucketloads of it to affect the baby.

Lola are you in the Americas somewhere?

I will go to my GP next week (once I've passed 6 weeks - as had mc with first pregnancy at 5.5 weeks so it's superstitious of me for no real reason). Here we do mixed GP/consultant care so every month I'll alternate seeing GP and having a hospital appt.

Hello to any new people and congratulations - talk to you all soon

BillComptonstrousers · 14/06/2011 21:48

Bloody hell here you all are!

I've been wandering around the pregnancy thread thinking 'someone MUST be due in Feb, I can't be the ONLY one.....'

And here you all are in the antenatal club!

(admittedly I never really venture from chat/AIBU/ relatioships)

Anyway I had a BFP on monday after missing my period on the day I came home from holiday, lots of wine and cheese, yikes!!

I have two older one 11 and 6 so a bit of a gap for this next one.

Have had a couple of previous miscarriages before DD1 so am feeling a tad anxious.

Fingers crossed and good luck to everyone!

harrietlichman · 14/06/2011 21:54

Hi bill! Congrats and welcome to our club! Am in similar position to you re mc, so understand the anxiety, but trying not to dwell on it and getting quietly excited!

BillComptonstrousers · 14/06/2011 22:06

Eh, it's a worry isn't it Harriet!

Don't think I've ever found out so early before so it's really going to drag till 12 weeks and I get cracking with stuff!

Had a cheeky look in Mothercare today ( I know, I know Blush ) and poor DH filled up! It's his first one btw.

Good lord I'm tired during the day though, but no sickness as yet, think it might be a bit early for that??

harrietlichman · 14/06/2011 22:22

I haven't had any sickness at all but haven't with any of my dc's (have two boys, 6 and 4) some of us on here are suffering terribly though, so I count myself lucky and wait for the swollen ankles/piles/back ache or whatever pg has in store for me! when is your EDD?

BillComptonstrousers · 14/06/2011 22:56

EDD is 18th feb, just days after my birthday!

Love the name btw, I see you're a Raymond fan!
