Oh another vote for Freecycle here too! With DS we got so much - a babybath, babyclothes, a pushchair (admittedly that was a duff one so we had to go secondhand on eBay for my nemesis) some reusable nappies, maternity pads and mattress protectors (shame my waters went on the bedroom carpet instead Grin ) it's a great place because people always want to declutter baby stuff once their kids are older and have totally taken over their homes, and generally people are really lovely on it too.
Staceroo sorry to freak you out about the Palmers. TBH I have been known to put what's left on my legs after shaving but I'm trying to avoid it during pregnancy. Parabens are a totally legal group of chemicals but they don't have a good safety reputation and I think may be banned or restricted in some countries. They've got suspected links to cancers in later life so not particularly nice. We're over the top careful because DS has eczema so we limit what smellies we use to avoid making it worse. There's some scary, scary chemicals that wouldn't be allowed in food in a 100 years, but we're told are safe to gloop all over ourselves. Don't even get me started on Johnsons Baby stuff
And finally, after all my waffling good luck Cep. That's such a poignant coincidence, but I hope tomorrow helps lift some of the sadness of the past. All the best to you.

BuffyFan · 18/04/2011 21:05

Smilingcl ? very exciting! Glad it's good news.

LK congratulations!

As to stretch marks I have plenty already from having put on / lost weight over the years (lost 2 and a half stone last year) so not so worried about preventing them now. Body butter is lovely stuff though so tempted just to get some anyway for a bit of pampering ? watching out for the parabens! Am now very concerned about Johnsons baby stuff Poppet45. Is nothing safe?? :)

Freecycle / ebay / car boots are all excellent, and I'm trying to decide what things I want to definitely buy new, and what's OK second hand.

Staceroo · 18/04/2011 21:20

Good luck for the scan cep

Poppet think I'll be rummaging through my bathroom cuboard later to see what other creams I've got!!

Poppet45 · 18/04/2011 21:27

Don't do it!!!! I'm one of those people who wants to know so goes and googles everything. Then wishes she didn't. You'll end up like me, and this way lies madness.
Seriously I used it for at least half my pregnancy with DS and he's fine! A little tantrummy at times but I don't think we can blame Palmers for that.

Pipsbump · 18/04/2011 21:38

Evening,

cep good luck for tomorrow...I'll be thinking of you. I have my 12 week scan and meeting with my consultant tomorrow with all the bloods. I know I only saw Pip on Wednesday but the nerves seem to have kicked in all over again.

ali I am really sorry to hear about your friend

Lotions and Potions...I haven't started doing any of that stuff yet and I know I should, I just haven't wanted to tempt fate. If things go ok tomorrow, I might think buy a cream. I find the palmers normal stuff quite over powering so will try the sanctuary.

I hope everybody's bumps are behaving themselves.

Take care

x

Great news with all the scans and the engagement Smile its nice to hear good news.

Glad I'm not the only one with cm! It's nice how pregnancy removes all sense of shame.

As for stretch marks I've been incredibly lucky and have none on my tummy after 3 pregnancies and not using anything. But neither did my mam. Not sure if I'll get away with it 4th time or if it will ever go back as flat as it was!

I have to get every thing new apart from a cot as I had sold every thing including my beloved bugaboo a few weeks before I got my BFP as I was definitely not having any more! Wups!

bumpandisaacsmum · 18/04/2011 23:08

I use body butter generally following bath/shower to stave off dry skin not really for preventing stretch marks as it clinically proven that skin type is what defines whether you get them!! It good though to keep skin moist as it does help a little.

With regards to what is in the products, you can find lots of info that condems every ingrediant for one reason or another if you look hard enough- then you find another piece stating how wonderful it is!! If you listen to it all we wouldn't use anything!! Remember common sense is needed and if it isn't safe it wouldn't be available to buy so readily!!

goldmaple · 19/04/2011 01:38

Hello everyone!!

Not using any lotions yet but MIL got me a gift certificate to a maternity store and in their book they recommend a 3 piece lotion set, to start in the first trimester. So I am going to buy it... (one for bump, and one for boobs, and one to firm bum) lol.. pretty sure they do nothing but oh well

This might be a dumb question but do most of you have a moses basket and a crib? And if so, why both - is it because the moses basket is portable?

staceroo I started a baby blanket (Noah's Arc) 2 years ago when I first wanted a baby (had to wait for many reasons) but now I think I will finish it and base a nursery around it. Was thinking of winnie too... but peter rabbit is very cute!

cep hope your scan goes really well tomorrow and you see bean doing some neat moves:)

TwoJackRussellsandabean · 19/04/2011 06:22

Morning all,

nothing much to report here, I just wanted to wish everyone with scans today good luck, still have eight days to wait for mine, fx everything is okay will finally be able to relax a bit and maybe start getting excited. Have almost cleared out the spare room that I always had a notion would be a nursery, DH and I are thinking sort of how to paint it, he's an artist, so maybe a mural?

There is a massive car boot every sunday just outside the village we live in so will think about wandering down there in the next couple of months.

Has anyone started thinking about booking antenatal classes? DH mentioned them last night but haven't really got any idea about any of these things this being the first DC.

bumpandisaacsmum · 19/04/2011 07:43

Staceroo I had peter rabbit for my DS, my mum brought us the whole collection of books & they are still DS's fav as is his cot blanket (depite being 6!)

For this one we are going to go fairytales - mamas & papas have a lovely gingerbread themed bedding set so prob get that!!

Gold I had a moses with DS which I found handy as could take it downstairs etc to put him to sleep (or in the bathroom whilst I had a bath then he would join me at the end!) He didn't like sleeping in it at night though so ended up with cot in room & co-sleeping!!

Two Jack would be worth asking MW what antenatal classes nhs do in your area as some are really good & booking extra (e.g. NCT) may not be needed whereas others don't cover much at all!!

MooseyMoo · 19/04/2011 08:18

cep My nerves have kicked in as well and I still have 9 days til my scan.

Gold We had a moses basket which DD was in at night until she outgrew it at 8 weeks. Moved her into a cot in her own room and she slept so much better (and so did we!).

At first we moved the moses basket downstairs until we realised she quite liked falling asleep on a baby beanbag (which a friend donated to us). So in the day she slept on a beanbag and at night she slept in her moses basket.

Best crack on with DD's breakfast.

Katiebeau · 19/04/2011 09:06

Good luck CEP

Good luck cep - waiting for your return and good news!! Smile

Pipsbump · 19/04/2011 13:13

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all ok today. I'm just back from my scan and all went well. Pip is coming along nicely and I saw the heartbeat :o. I just didn't realise how much I could love this little being. I had to go on my own because DP had a testing session so was really nervous.

The sonographer was lovely and put me at ease. Just need to wait on the blood results but fx all is ok.

I also met with my consultant who will be looking after me. I am now due on the 2nd of November (ok just brought forward by a day) but I have been told that because of my clotting condition I will be induced earlier so I might be an October baby (but I don't want to leave this thread).

cep I hope your scan went well today.

Really tired now, think I'm going to treat myself to a nap!
x

rightontime · 19/04/2011 13:25

Congrats on the lovely scan Pip.

Cep hope yours has gone ok?

I had my booking in appointment today and stupidly took both kids with me. That was fun but bearable. Worst bit was giving blood when I had had no breakfast and very little to drink. Felt pretty bad after that and went round Tesco and opened nearly everything I bought to try and get blood sugar up. Blush

Poppet45 · 19/04/2011 13:28

Pip - so pleased for you!!!
Cep - fingers crossed!!!
Not much news here apart from the sickness appears to be lifting and I have a real thing for any sort of beef, and cream cheese, and fresh lemon and lime juice. At this stage with DS it was just fruit and veg. And he ended up 9lb 6oz. Oh god I'm going to be the size of a whale.

TerrysNo2 · 19/04/2011 13:36

Yay for fab scan pip and don't you dare leave us Wink FX for good blood results - is yours a nuchal scan? I have mine on thursday, eek!

cep thinking of you.

rightontime you are eating for two so make the most of it! Smile I crave salad and fruit and DS was still 8lb 2oz

Pipsbump · 19/04/2011 13:56

Thank you ladies :)

rightontime I hope you are ok, I've just eaten for the first time today, silly girl...but I didn't want to be sick at the hospital with nerves.

poppet my thing is cheese, in particular that seriously strong spreadable stuff...I know it's processed but I love it. Cannot get enough of it, I fear for my future waistline :o

terrys yes it was the nuchal fold and all the other tests. I was speaking to DP this morning and it's like you get to one hurdle, get over that, feel a bit better then you have the tests and it's another thing to think about.

Yes I am a nightmare, but a happy nightmare at the moment.

Poppet45 · 19/04/2011 14:01

Oh god Seriously Strong Spreadable.... I'd forgotten how nice that was

TerrysNo2 · 19/04/2011 14:08

Ugh cheese!! Smile Fruit please and veggies for me. Maybe the occasional burger. Also ice lollys (but that may be weather induced) and fizzy drinks.

cep · 19/04/2011 14:32

i wish i could just want fruit and veg. ds and i went via tesco's on way home to pick a cake Blush and ds decided he wanted a tray cake with rollo's and smarties on it. i now have a huge choc cake in my fridge.

pips so pleased for you hon.

Thankyou for your good wishes, everything was fine. they first put it at 10+6 but then he stretched a bit so was 11+1 (i still think he's 11+3 but hey ho) he waved his arm around and gave a huge jump while we were watching. so chuffed. proper 12 wk scan date on 5th, (13+5 but never mind) They also said that if i was over 14 weeks they wouldn't do nuchal, i know someone said this the other day so backing it up really.

Poppet45 · 19/04/2011 14:43

Yey!!! Let them eat cake!!!

TerrysNo2 · 19/04/2011 14:48

Yay babyCep

cep · 19/04/2011 14:54

that's what i though poppet Grin thanks ladies, i have to admit i'm a lot more relaxed now, i've passed the date bad news was given last time, and bean has gotten a lot further than last time, so although i know i'll worry as i get closer to the 5th, i'm pretty happy now, and when i saw the baby give a big jump i couldn't stop my heart from swelling, so i don't think i can hold myself back anymore. (i had been trying to stay detached from it.)

rightontime · 19/04/2011 16:13

Yay so pleased for you Cep. Grin

I haven't touched fruit and veg really in weeks. Except one bunch of grapes which I ate all in one go. I must have needed a top up! I am just wanting ready salted crisps ATM. Would be very happy if I could live on them and nothing else.
