Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 11/05/2011 20:11

Wow ladies - have been watching the thread but no time to post as sooo busy lately, so forgive the mammoth post to catch up:

Firstly littlemiss I don't know what to say that would be of any comfort but I am truly sorry for your loss. Please take care.xx

I have my 20 week scan date through - 6 July. I have my private nuchal on Saturday. I'm a larger lady (and then some), but for 169quid they can bloody well keep on going till they get a clear measurement or we're not paying!

I see the hospital consultant next week due to my BMI (yadeyadeya) and the fact I had a section last time. I am feeling confident though thanks to the lovely ladies on the homebirth threads and on yahoo VBACs and will calmly insist on a homebirth unless there are clinical reasons (ie an actual emergency or a breech).
I then have a mw appt the following week.

Telling my boss next week. Lead and balloon spring to mind!

We normally go on hols in September but obviously that won't be possible due to dates and I'd rather not holiday in the UK, so in about 5 weeks time we're off to Florida!
We've managed to get a 5bed, 4 bath villa with private pool about 10mins from Disney for mates rates, and it'll be just me, DP and DD! How fab is that! Ithink you're OK to fly without a docs note until 28 weeks or so, but after that, just get a doctor's note if you want to fly later.

As to getting the room ready, it's more about moving DD into the bigger spare room. Her room is still set up for a baby, so we just need to turn her bed back into a cot. We've bought her a big girl bed, a new chest of drawers and a bed side table. Going to recarpet and get new curtains, then we're done. As DD's sex was a surprise all our new born stuff is neutral so that's about it. Probably going to find out the sex of this one though.

I'm currently pondering maternity leave. I think I'll manage to take 10 months off as my employer are OK - I get 16 weeks at full pay, then 4 weeks at 75% and 4 weeks at 50% before SMP. They pay my pension and childcare vouchers once I'm on SMP and I get to keep my company car too.
By the time I go back, DD will be ready for pre-school so this one will then start nursery.

One final thing - Pam are you having an amnio? Why are you doing that - have you tested high risk? Sorry if I'm prying but am curious as I've never 'met' anyone who had an amnio.

I've gone from a D cup to an F cup but won't get any maternity bras just yet, just got some big non-wired ones from M&S. Grin

Right, must bugger off. DD asleep, DP away and despite working FT, as I'm a bean counter I also have to do DP's accounts (he's self employed) in the evenings! Must crack on.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 11/05/2011 20:12

Ooh forgot to day, I love the name Lily for a girl but DP hates it. How do I change his mind? He likes Jessica (images of a rabbit)

I think we're both thinking about Daniel or Matthew for a boy.

lktoday5 · 11/05/2011 20:17

Wow mrs your maternity terms are awesome. I get 6 weeks at 90% and then smp. Boo hiss .... Do get to keep company car allowance though so not all bad...

cep · 11/05/2011 20:28

have to say love the name Luke. but i am biased ds is a Luke.

bumpandisaacsmum · 11/05/2011 20:31

mrsa that is definitely great mat pay... I get 8weeks full followed by 16weeks half +smp before dropping to just smp, though can ask for them to pay it in equal amounts throughout mat leave... Just need to do finances to decide whether it'll be 6 or 10 months I can take off

Having a bit of a tearful evening here, not 100% sure why. Am annoyed with DS's school to the point of considering changing his school, but that isn't normally enough to bring me to tears 5 times in the space of a few hours!! Think I'll be getting some comfort food, having a good cry on the phone to my mum before settling in front of a soppy film...would sleep but mind too active!!
Sorry for the moan x x

cep · 11/05/2011 20:34

bumpand sorry you're feeing a bit emotional tonight. Blame the hormones. Hope you feel better tomorrow.

I meant to say i used to know a little boy called Blue. seriously.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 11/05/2011 20:58

Oh bump I'm feeling sad too but no real reason. I was driving home from a long business meeting yesterday and Eric Clapton's song 'Tears in Heaven' came on and I almost had to pull over I was crying to much! Didn;t help that the radio presenter reminded me why he wrote it- due to the tragic death of his little boy who fell from a hotel balcony.

Damn hormones.

If it helps btw, when we brought DD home from hospital, DP and I asked family to stay away completely for 2 days. They'd already met her in the hospital, so we got home Sunday and asked no one to visit until the Wednesday. We then put a note on the front door saying 'Apart from midwives/healthcare people, please do not knock on the door it will not be answered. New mum & baby inside'.
It worked and apart from my post natal visits, no one bothered us, not even the postman and we had a lovely 2 days where we spent most of it in bed together just all 3 of us bonding and sleeping when we could. I highly recommend it, though with this one we may not be able to due to 3 yr old DD!

And Xmas is bothering me. I'll make sure we're all sorted by the end of Oct re presents, fodd shopping lists etc - just pretend xmas is a month or so early, hopefully we just have the tree to put up and a bit of cleaning to do, but normally my 91 yr old grandma comes to stay and we take her home afterwards. Not sure how practical that will be with a 5/6 week old waking every few hrs! Plus we have nowhere to put her as DD will be in the spare room. Hmm

MissyNorfolk · 11/05/2011 21:03

blue seriously cep, I thought hero was bad!!

sorry for all those feeling emtional, fortunately that stage didnt last too long with me, although now I am just hugely hormonal like I have a double dose of pmt, and if my laptop doesnt start working properly too i may well end up chucking it out of the window!!!

oooohhh really fancy some fruit salad chewits mmmm yum yum....

Staceroo · 11/05/2011 21:46

Evening all!

MissyR mw booked our 16 week appointment, its standard here. I love both nia and dylan. Dylan is on our shortlist, but I know a Nia, so kind of rules that one out!

hills we have our next scan the same day! Can't believe your decorating already! We have so much todo before we can do nursury! New central heating system for one!

missyN we bought our first thing the other day! Just because I wanted to be the first to buy anything for baby! Got a little my first clothes set from mothercare. Little white babygrows, vests, socks, scratch mits and a hat!

ik livia rose is a beautiful name!

gold I don't see why you couldn't go for a used crib, though I've read your supposed to get brand new bedding and matress etc.

mrsa hate to admit it, but I'm a bean counter too! And luckily get a similar mat deal to you, plus when I go back I get a 2months salary as a back to work bonus! Though I don't have a company car!

Unfortunately, I actually have to sell my car! I drive a 2seater, and there's no way to turn the airbags off! So its gotta go! :-(

Oh also mrsa we love jessica, but we've put Jessie on our short list! (After jessie the yodeling cowgirl from toystory!)

bumpandisaacsmum · 11/05/2011 21:57

Couldn't get into soppy film after talking to my mu so started working out practical things instead!!!

Feeling slightly better as have worked out that with keeping to a tight budget I should be able to take 9-10months mat leave :)
That will take me up to end of august (school hols childcare sorted!!) & will start my midwifery course in the september :)

TerrysNo2 · 11/05/2011 22:36

Evening all, just quickly read as off to bed but had to tell you, to those feeling emotional, I literally just sobbed my heart out to Dirty Dancing, I actually couldn't stop gut wrenching sobs but I didn't know why so then I started laughing and sobbing at the same time - DH was rolling with laughter at me. So weird to have no control over your emotions!!

Night all. xxx

alicat10 · 11/05/2011 22:44

MrsA & Staceroo I'm another bean counter! Also on ok mat terms (though do need to double check exactly what they are)

Doppler arrived today and successfully found galloping heartbeat so money still on girl - also found best mate's baby too and quit a bit slower so wonder if hers is boy

CazandBelle · 11/05/2011 22:48

lk love Livia Rose! and your name choices cali - loving all this name talk! We're going with Amelia Rose (Millie for short) if this one is a girl too and Alexander Jon (Xander for short) for a boy.

CazandBelle · 11/05/2011 22:49

ah sorry about the bold - that went a bit wrong lol!

PamSco · 12/05/2011 00:15

MrsA yes we have opted for amnio. I think many people my age and weight choose to have the full genetic test. The choice to go ahead with the test depends on your balance of risks. We haven't done it lightly.

My risk of carrying a Down's baby is twice as likely as the risk of ms, plus the risk of the nuchal being inaccurate was higher due to weight adds to the risk of faulty risk assessment. I was advised to think about outcomes and depending on our thinking it was better to go straight to the test and not bother with nuchal & bloods.

PamSco · 12/05/2011 00:15

ms should be mc!

TwoJackRussellsandabean · 12/05/2011 06:50

Morning all,

I've been suffering from the raging hormonal mood swings too, although not reduced to tears a rude comment from a colleague yesterday almost did the trick - git!!!

When we moved to our house I always had one of the spare rooms in mind for a nursery, it's only now that DH has allowed me to call it that, but I've been using that name in my head for ages!!!

I have blood tests on Monday and fully expect that I will be referred for an amnio, although I might be surprised, will find out in the next couple of weeks.

Have our 20 week scan booked for 23rd June, which isn't really a long time to wait :)

Hope you all have a good day with minimal tears!

MissyNorfolk · 12/05/2011 07:04

shhhhh all the talk of the 20 weeks scans, I've got another 4 days to wait until my 12 week one!!!!! I am fit to burst with impatience!

voodoomunkee · 12/05/2011 07:13

Morning all, seems everyone is having an emotional few days! Am sure it will settle down but if not then maybe just indulge yourself with a few soppy movies etc. Not much new here, work being really cool and I took my scan piccie's in yesterday, everyone was surprised how clear they were, so we had some cake to celebrate (oops!).

I have terrible mat leave conditions and due to the fact that the oh isn't working at present am thinking if it stays the same I am going to have to take a very short mat leave. Crossing fingers he gets some work or I get accepted for the social work masters that starts in Jan. Unfortunately I am on a temp contract which ends in oct and I will drop back to part time hours and rubbish pay. Tis very complicated and I am very worried about how we are going to manage but trying to be very practical and keep my chin up!

Booked tomorrow off work and intend go go for a coffee with a friend and have a bit of a relaxing day, starting the weekend nice and early!

PamSco · 12/05/2011 07:40

voodoo you have my sympathy, the prospect of a short maternity leave is horrible. Just when you want to spend months and months yet you know you can't. We are in a similar boat but not quite as bad as we are both working but just can't afford the house if I go unpaid.

One thing people keep telling me is - just when you think it can't work - it does, somehow it just does. As you say, chin up - it'll be ok.

voodoomunkee · 12/05/2011 07:47

Ah thanks pam, am very much hoping that something works out and am pretty sure it will! I don't mind not having the longer mat leave if it means I can keep the current job I am doing and as for the Social Work MA that is something I really want to do so keeping fingers crossed. Even if I don't get it this time I am reapplying for the following year and everything will work out anyway! Am a fairly optimistic person anyway!
Quite enjoying being pregnant even though am shattered so it is just one of those things!

bumpandisaacsmum · 12/05/2011 08:25

voodoo & pam don't worry about how you'll manage, there is still auite a while before november & things can change!! I had rubbish mat leave conditions with DS & wanted to start my nursing course...it didn't happen how I'd ideally wanted it to but it all worked out in the end!! I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason x x

Enjoy pg & look forward to enjoying mat leave however short it may be x x

TerrysNo2 · 12/05/2011 10:20

Morning all. Any scans today?

MrsA v Envy of your mat pay. I only get statutory although we are still lucky in that I can afford to take a year off. I will be going for 13/14 months including holidays. I know from DS that its hard coming back and you don't get that time off again so if possible I would urge anyone to take as much as you can then. voodoo I hope things become clearer for you soon on your mat leave - and keeping my FX your OH gets some work!

Pam I think you were talking about losing weight in pregnancy and I thought you might be interested in this article. Sorry it has a headline about obese women, obviously I do not know if thats you but it seemed to make some interesting points about losing weight and I know you said the MW was giving you hassle? I hope I haven't offended.

I have lost weight too but thats because I only want to eat fruit and veggies!

Missy so sorry you are still waiting for your 12 week scan - but it will come around soon and then we can celebrate with you! Smile

Are we having a bilingual thread now? I love it!! Grin

PamSco · 12/05/2011 10:27

TerrysNo2 thanks for the link. Not offended at all. I am classed "obese" oh the joy of pigeon hole-ing. I was so wound up about the situation when I first found I was pg (unplanned) that I considered termination just because of my weight.

That's the pressure society puts on you. It was only the wonderful nurses at the hospital who told me to get over myself and that I wasn't as big as some of the women they see who have perfectly straight forward births.

Yes I'd like to be a healthier weight for this pg but if wishes were kisses I'd be snogging the face of Mr Clooney. Fact is I need to sort the food I eat out for the bab's health not my hips! I've always been a fruit and veg girl I just eat LOADS of them.

PamSco · 12/05/2011 10:28

** Just a follow up - no mw has hassled me yet, just anticipating it! Possibly unfairly.
