awww bless voodoo, just litstened to the heart beat on the doppler, am hoping its the babys anyway, would feel like a right idiot if I was listening to my own through a pulse or something, or is that not possible?

Well am taking the Mother in law to the scan with me on monday, I think she will be superexcited, wasnt going to take anyone, but it is her grandchild and i know how much she really wants to come.

alicat10 · 11/05/2011 08:05

missyn your heartbeat is around 90, baby's is more like 130 so should be obv which you listening to - sounds like galloping I think

Good luck with scan x

MissyNorfolk · 11/05/2011 08:10

oh no alicat, maybe i am listening to my own then, didnt seem overly fast too me, would you be able to hear a heart beat through a pulse though if it were my own? I dont know. All confused and worried now!

alicat10 · 11/05/2011 08:14

Don't worry it is really easy to pick up pulse of placenta I think or another one - you prob need to probe a bit lower - even MW find it hard to find baby's before a good 14 weeks and most don't try til 16 weeks - much more likely lack of training than lack of baby x x

MissyNorfolk · 11/05/2011 08:22

ok just feel a bit panicy was all reassured and happy when I thought it was the babys but pretty sure it is mine as it is pretty slow, may have a root around later and see what i can hear, am only 12 weeks though, so i guess i may not be able to hear :(

PamSco · 11/05/2011 08:48

12 weeks will be very hard to hear, don't get panicy :) you'll be a dab hand when baby is helping being bigger.

TerrysNo2 · 11/05/2011 09:47

Morning all

Congrats on great scan news.

Missy I didn't hear DS's heartbeat until 13+6 (I think) and with this one we didn't even try until 14 weeks but found it after 10 minutes. You need to put the doppler really low down and the heartbeat sounds like a horse galloping, you will know you are around the right place when you hear the whooshing of the placenta. But don't be alarmed if you don't hear anything yet!

As for letting people visit after the baby is born, the only people who could visit us (as DH's family are lazy 6 hours away) were my mum and stepdad and I told them they could come on the first day for a couple of hours and then not again for a few days. This worked really well as they bought dinner and tidied up on the first day!

Good luck for any scans today - my next one (20 week) is on 27th June, having to wait a bit longer than 20 weeks as we are on holiday until the 24th. 2 weeks in Portugal, can't wait!

CollieandPup · 11/05/2011 10:36

Hi all, sorry I?ve been awol again, had a lovely weekend away so just catching up.

Littlemiss If you are still lurking I am so sorry about your mc, I lost my previous at 9+3 too. Thinking of you. I can second the thread that CEP suggested, it really got me through some tough months.

Sorry to hear about some of the negative reactions people have had to their pg annoucements. Glad most of you are not letting it get to you though, I don?t understand why people / family can?t bring themsleves to at least pretend to be happy. I told my mum very early on and her reaction was ?well I won?t get excited about this one? (after mc in dec), Nice. And then went on to forget I was pg and kept asking me why I wasn?t drinking / was feeling sick and tired. Even more annoyingly since my scan last week shes been badgering me to let her tell people and can?t undertaand why I don?t want it plastered all over fb ? she has her own fb account and wants to spread the joy. Aghhhh

Ive still not told anyone other than immediate family and 2 friends I was away with at the weekend. Ironically not my closest friends. It was nice though being able to talk about it. Not sure when I?ll tell work. I have a new (male) boss, who I am having my first meeting with on Friday, so really don?t fancy annoucing it to him any time soon.

[grin} at thought of Pam pulling out hand puppet in team meeting.

Bump are your bargain mat clothes off ebay? I?ve been looking at some on ebay too. Just don?t know what size to get. I am normally an 8 and ive tried a couple of mat things on (I.e jeans) in a few shops already to get a feel, and the 8?s fit me, with room to grow, but I?m not sure if they?ll be big enough as I get bigger ? are you supposed to get your size or a size up????

Folic ohh holidays. We had planned a sept holiday too but I think ts too late on for me to want to go abroad ? although I?d happily go away in the UK then. We were going to book a week abroad in early july but I think we are going to buy a clapt out vw van and do it upso we may end up caming or, if we are lucky, B&Bing somewhere in the south.

Had to buy a new bra yesterday ? just a cup bigger. Im normally a 32C. Think I should be a 32E b ut can?t find a cheap 32E anywhere so plumped for a 34D. Once I?ve stopped growing I?ll invest in a poper mat bra ? any recommendations anyone?

bumpandisaacsmum · 11/05/2011 10:49

missyn I wouldn't worry re: heartbeat as others have said mw often struggle before 16weeks due to size & position of baby... If you do manage to find it added bonus but don't panic if you can't find it yet!!

terrys my 20week scan is also on 27th June, though not til 16.00, seems ages away!!

collie no mine were from pumpkin patch outlet at swindon so all brand new!! I brought to the size I am at the mo as there was quite a bit of growing room (that and the next size up fell down even on tightest setting!!) If you are happy that your size give you growing room then I would buy to that size if going ebay!!

Good luck to anyone with scans today x x

PamSco · 11/05/2011 12:48

Very naughty here, at work and mumsnetting! I found some nice cheap and cheerful mat clothes on Bon Prix. Probably more useful for larger ladies, like me, who can't get H&M and other high street shops to fit. Them and simplybe who have some good basic trews for work.

I'm not bothering yet, still losing weight becuase of the healthy lifestyle. I'll not accept any chastisement from mw on that, I am prepared with a food diary so they will see I'm not slagging off or dieting just a good dose of fruit, veg and rice with wee bits of chicken = weight loss.

I was scared of teh boob blow up but it hasn't happend yet - 42DD now a 42E, I've moved into the unwired over the shoulder bolder holder from M&S. But my nips have gone from "nothing to brag about" to "Oh My God where is the tractor that those beauties start". They are pretty tender so I'm roughing them up and tweaking them every night to get them used to the abuse they are going to take!

Staceroo · 11/05/2011 13:14

laughing out load at my desk Pam!!

By the way, I do have my scan date, but that's because here they book that at the end of your 12 week one! 29th June! 9:30 am!

Booking in appointment on 4th June, hoping mw will try to listen for heartbeat then...???? Maybe????

Folic, we had already decided to miss the holidays this year as we've just moved house and have so much diy to do! Now have a serious rocket up us to get it done sooner!

MissyN Good thinking re xmas shopping! Hadn't crossed my mind! I always do it last minute because I love the christmas feeling when everyones rushing around! Just don't know if I'll love it with a few week old baby! Maybe it will be even better!

And re 'outthere' names! I think we're going for something more unusual, but when I say unusual, I mean Welsh! Did have 2 boys names picked years ago, the first being Jack. But I've seen that it's been the most common boys names for the last few years, so has put me off!

Missyraines · 11/05/2011 13:34

RE 20 week scan date, we got ours as we left after my 12w. So it's booked for 5th July. My care/appointments have all been very quick and around the correct times. Must live in a good area. The hospital has a great maternity reputation.

Didn't know about a 16w appointment? Where did you hear that we get one?

As for Christmas I thought about pre-preparing the outer bits of cards with Christmassy decor (I make my own anyway so have all the stock) then sticking on a smaller piece of card with baby's hand or foot print on. Cheap and very personal. Also agree with homemade food items and the inerweb LOVE it all coming to my door.

Went to the theatre last night and saw Betty blue eyes. Very funny and clever and would recomend. Got tickets through Last minute so were great seats for £30. MIL loved it too. They've gone home now so am free to come in and see you guys.

Great scan news girls.

Missyraines · 11/05/2011 13:35

Oh and Satceroo my DH is Welsh so will probably have a Welsh name. Love Nia or Dylan so far.

MissyNorfolk · 11/05/2011 13:41

hey missyr we def should get a 16 week mw appt, my midwife told me about it when i went for my booking in, im supposed to book it after my 12w (13+1!) scan.

mashpot · 11/05/2011 14:10

I have my next MW appt on 26 May. This appt is with the community MW at my GP surgery because the homebirth team won't see me until after the 20 week scan. My 20 week scan is on 8 July - ages to wait!

We have a wedding to attend in France over the august bh weekend so that has been turned into a week long holiday but it will be quite restful, mainly because I will be a passenger in the car for much of the week as there's so much driving so lots of napping time.

We also want to go away for a short break at the end of July to use up holiday and while we still can (no kids yet) and DH wants to go to Toronto. It's about a 7hour flight, would this be crazy? I will be around 24 weeks.

We don't have any names picked out and havent even thought about it yet. We are not having that discussion until after the 20 week scan. Still intending not to find out what we're having but I know I will be so tempted so we'll see what happens at the scan!

Hils74 · 11/05/2011 16:18

I have my next mw app tomorrow, 16 wks but going at 14wks as she was free.

Also booked my 20 wk scan straight after my 12wk, it's on 29th June at 1.10pm so seems like ages away :)

Not even thought about xmas, has anyone started decorating nurseries yet?

MissyNorfolk · 11/05/2011 16:53

not yet hills am waiting for my 20 week scan before i buy or do anything!

Anyone else feeling like this?

Seriously since turning pregnant my brain has turned to mush!! I am trying my absolute hardest to get an assignment written and I have no motivation and no inclination to do it at all!! I keep getting distracted with thoughts of prams and baby stuff, as that is what I would much rather be looking at!!! Everything else just seems to pare (sp) into insignificance the only thing that is important to me in my head right now is this baby, and making sure it is ok and preparing for it and caring for it when its here, everything else just seems to take a back seat as Im not the least bit interested in it!!!!! Anyone else like this or is it just me!?

Katiebeau · 11/05/2011 17:28

MissyNorfolk I know exactly how you feel. I broke out of it only a couple of weeks ago at 13 weeks +.

20 week scan on the 14/06. With DD it was a horrible experience where we were bluntly told there might be a problem with her brain and heart and sent out for a walk to move her. Weeks of scans later she was pronouced fine - just got a large noggin!!!

I bloody hope this one is plain sailing........

Hi all - have been keeping up to speed but havent been able to write as away with work and shouldnt really MN (but its 5.30 so i wont tell). Good news to all scanees Smile

missyn I'm with you - I'm completely superstitious about buying or doing anything. must confess I did take DP to the pushchair shop but that was only to try and make it more 'real' for him as he's been away for the bulk of my pregnancy so far. He has picked the one with hazard lights, made by the F1 seat manufacturer. He says 'well baby will be very comfortable wont she and people will be able to see you'. Male logic. Wink

Know I'm going back a bit but I'm really sad that people havent had great reactions. DP and I havent been together that long and arent married yet so was fully expecting some note great but people have been fab. So to all of you with bad reactions:

And on names, we've picked Livia Rose, DP has an Italian surname so we wanted something that would fit and be a little unusual but not too much. I am laughing about the fact that i wont buy anything but have a name picked Blush

Have good evenings all

goldmaple · 11/05/2011 17:36

hils I bought the baby his/her first blanket the other day. And soon we will start moving everything out of the room that will be the nursery. I want to have it all done before Sept seeing as thats busy season for work and I think I will have my hands full with that (and the 3rd trimester).

Anyone else buying/decorating yet? Does anyone recommend buying used crib etc.. It def seems the logical way to go but I did want new things...

missyN if what you heard sounds like a normal pulse then it could have been your ovarian artery (GP tried doppler on me and found this at 12+5). then an obstetrician found the HB with a doppler at 13+? but said it was pretty early still (think they were just very skilled). So for you not to hear one at 12 weeks doesn't sound unusual. I think having the doppler will be great when baby is bigger though!

bumpandisaacsmum · 11/05/2011 17:49

hills & gold we've decided on a theme for the nursery (fairy-tales, based around mamas&papas gingerbread) but can't decorate as such as renting so it'll be more acsessorising (please excuse spelling). We have brought a couple of bits (pram & some bedding) but only as we saw exactly what we want & they were on offer (pram ex-display so was down loads).

We have let DS decide whether he wanted to stay in the smaller room of move to what was the spare room...he choose the bigger room (suprise suprise) so we have moved his room already which means baby's room is ready apart from a couple of boxes to go up to the loft when I nag DP to get them up there!

Caliphora · 11/05/2011 19:11

smilingcl I'm Danish! If you want some yummy Danish recipes - let me know! I use my Danish food for comfort food - they're good at greasy/sweet/stodgy!

I bought a maternity bra at 8 weeks - Already in GG cups by then - they're now too small. Good thing I'm breastfeeding - lo will have NO problem finding these lovelies!

My 20 wk scan is on 17th June - we're getting a bit excited. I think Sprout has been wriggling, too - 15+3 today so fx it will pick up!

As for Names, we've both got parents who've passed away, so we definitely want to honour them in the name choices.
DP has a tradition of taking first letters of Mums and Dads names together. That would be Joel for a boy, but we're thinking John Emanuel (Joel for short) - Emanuel is a traditional middle name for the first born boy from my side (and my father's middle name).
The girl's name we've picked - Marianne - is my mother's middle name crossed with his mother's name.

As for Lando - seriously? Lando? The guy who back stabbed Han Solo? Call him Luke instead! Wink

smilingcl · 11/05/2011 19:22

I am jealous of the people getting their nursery's ready and buying bits already.. I've got tenants in our two spare rooms and I haven't asked them to leave until end August as we need all the money we can get. When they go we have 8 weeks of work, taking out carpet, new carpet upstairs, wooden floor downstairs, new kitchen and other bits and bobs. I feel slightly stressed about it already as DP is keen to save money by doing lots of the work himself but I can feel trouble brewing. I can expect/demand perfection from a tradesman and he'll know how long it will take... urgh.

On the upside I've got two holidays in the pipeline, going to Primavera festival with the girls in a couple of weeks in Barcelona. Will be a slightly different experience with no drinking but can't wait anyway. Then 2 weeks in Mexico in July, it might be the first and last time DP and I get a big hot holiday together! Bit badly timed in terms of spendiness and heat/fatness but it's been booked so we're going - I'll bring a parasol :)

MissyNorfolk · 11/05/2011 19:23

caliphora love your name choices, although you know far too much about star wars!!!!

smilingcl · 11/05/2011 19:38

Hej Caliphora!

Hvordan har du det?! Min kaerste ville elsker det om jeg lavede nogle dansk mad!

Dodgy Danish, apologies. OH would fall off his chair if I made dinner, let alone Danish dinner, that would be brilliant!
