Ik try not to worry too much, until you know for definate there isn't any point worrying and making yourself ill.

My scan this morning also went well, bump wouldn't stay still so sonographer got a measurement (5.5mm) and the nuchal was 1.5mm which app is normal?

Also had bloods taken so will get results next week.

EDD 11/11/11!!!!

lktoday5 · 28/04/2011 17:54

hello all - thank you for your lovely messages. After another frustrating conversation with the MW who couldnt tell me the blood results and said they dont look at nasal bones and didnt know if there was one there, I phoned the clinic on Harley St where I had an early scan. They have moved heaven and earth to fit me on Tuesday with the Dr who invented CVS, to re-do the test and then decide if I want to go ahead with it, so I should hope he knows what he's doing! It means that we will at least get a few days rest and maybe go away somewhere which makes me happier although the wallets will be significantly lighter .....I'm feeling much calmer knowing there is a plan.

I think someone asked if DP and I had spoken about what we would do? It's been really hard as he's been away on exercise and so we really havent been able to speak much - maybe 2 proper conversations in 3 months. We did have a flippant conversation but in no depth and of course when you're in the situation you think differently .....this morning he was hungover and sharing a room so still not ideal circumstances ....

So now im off for a swim which always makes me feel good and to try and get myself excited about the wedding tomorrow Smile

dirgeinvegas · 28/04/2011 18:13

Oh LK what a day. I can't imagine how stressful it is not being able to talk to anyone in RL, you sound very together.

I think re-doing the bloods is a good idea. When I lurked on the antenatal tests board I am sure that was what someone else did and it came back different the next time (though not sure what they are looking for or what affects it).

1.3mm sounds like a pretty good measurement to me. I think mine came back as the same and the sonographer said she would be surprised if there was a problem with a measurement like that so perhaps the scan is still a strong indicator or they'd just do the bloods surely?

Thinking of you, enjoy your swim and will look out for your update next week xx

lktoday5 · 28/04/2011 18:17

Thanks dirge. I think I'm pretty together generally, been a tough old year but I generally muddle through with minor hiccups (like this afternoon). I will of course let everyone know how it goes on Tuesday. Of course, having been away for 3 months and with me going through more bloods and injections and horridness I think it's only fair that DP is put on 'tea in bed' and 'general treatage' duty - right? Wink

Katiebeau · 28/04/2011 18:51

IK so sorry you are going through this stress. Odds are all is OK but little comfort right now I know. The bloods have a massive influence on the result. I know of 3 women who had them redone following scans with low NT and a nasal bone and the odds changed dramatically. Thinking of you, I hope you find someone close in RL you can talk to as well. xxxx

dirgeinvegas · 28/04/2011 19:06

I think you both deserve general treatage to be honest lk. If I were you, I would plan dual-treats in bed for when the dc are asleep and you can both relax together.

Asda or Tesco do non-alcoholic wine which is nice, snacks, pizza, cuddles in bed.

If you prefer fewer crumbs where you sleep then the sofa is also good Smile

That's reassuring Katie

Poppet45 · 28/04/2011 19:29

Treatage duty? Hell yeah!!!! Hope the appt net week goes okay Ik.

chipmonkey · 28/04/2011 22:07

Norforlk and LittleWhiteWolf so very sorry to hear about your bad news.Sad But Norfolk, you are not running out of time. I conceived this baby at 42, although it did take us longer to get pg than on ds3 and ds4.

lk your nuchal fold measurement sounds fine to me in that it's smaller than mine and the doc who saw me was very happy. Mine was 1.3mm Bloods can be erratic and look at it this way, 59 out of 60 is still very good odds. Good luck with the CVS, it will be money well spent to have your mind put at rest.

Well, as I said I had my NT scan today and the doc was very happy. Baby looks perfect and was moving around like billy-o. There are two pics added to my profile, one of a tiny hand and another which is baby's head in profile but because the baby wouldn't co-operate and get in position, this one wasn't very good.

ImBrian · 29/04/2011 09:41

Norfolk and LWW so sorry to hear your news :( The mc boards are great for support.

Had consultants appointment yesterday and they scanned me which I wasn't expecting so we got to see the bean :) Using a portable scanner and a consultant who said she was very inexperienced at scanning she finally found it just as I was beginning to worry. One baby, with a heart beat and moving :) Tried to take a measurement 3 times and got 3 different dates so leaving it till next Thursday at my nuchal scan to date it. Looks like I might be just under the 11 weeks I think I am. So no reason for my big uterus or fat gut lol.

Feel nervous about the nuchal scan, wish it was all over and done with!

cep · 29/04/2011 14:52

imbrian glad scan went well, fx for scan next week. [cgrin]

chip glad scan went well. [cgrin]

sorry if i'm a bit quiet this week, am mentalling a bit about my scan on thursday. fx to everyone else having scans this week.

goldmaple · 29/04/2011 17:00

Hi everyone!!

Had an appointment with my GP, heard the baby's heartbeat and then have been spotting brown blood since weds since GP did a pap smear. Everyone assures me its okay but would like it too stop. Can wait for nuchal scan in 4 days:)

Glad to hear your scans went well chip and imbrian

Hope everyone has a geat weekend!

Poppet45 · 29/04/2011 19:21

Hey up goldmaple If it's any reassurance I asked my midwife about brown blood because I had spotting for about a month!?! She told me that sometimes cells from the uterus end up growing on the outside of the cervix and they can end up being the ones that are either super sensitive to hormones and can bleed, or they can form a small scar area or abrasion that can bleed too. Either way all is secure within the uterus itself. Everyone told me it was alright too but it helped having a rational explanation for it. And the MW really didn't bat an eye lid about it which also helped. Anyway hope it stops very soon!! Counting down til our 12 week scan and nuchal on Thursday. Less so all the blood taking Confused

LizzyMathsWhizzy · 29/04/2011 20:00

LK I really feel for you, and admire how together you seem to be. I'm not having the NT or bloods for Downs because they never give you entirely accurate results, and even if a baby has Downs it is a graduated scale, with most babies growing up into functioning adults in society. I would never consider a termination, so really there is no need to worry prematurely. If it happens, it happens. I know that is probably no comfort, but before all these tests existed people used to have the same risks and never know it. Most people, even with a high risk go on to have totally healthy babies.

Congratulations on good scans Hils and knockedup. I had a scan yesterday, and was very excited to see the little wriggler. I don't know what I thought I was going to see, but a fully formed tiny little thing made my heart swell! Especially when my husband gasped with surprise as soon as it came on the screen Grin

Has anyone got any temporary names for their baby to avoid calling it 'it'? Ours is called Weetabix following my Grandad accidentally suggesting it as a name... When my family were discussing possible names, without his ears in he thought we were talking about cereals, and he said "I like Weetabix". We were all laughing at him so much that it stuck! My Mum says that I was Fido and my brother was Felix until we were born! I'm not planning to find out the sex until the birth, so its good to not worry about saying he or she.

Anyone with upcoming appointments or scans, I wish you the best of luck. We really are coming to a nerve wracking time aren't we! It won't be long until we can relax in the relative calm of the second trimester.

LizzyMathsWhizzy · 29/04/2011 20:02

Sorry, I missed goldmaple, chip and ImBrian! Congratulations to all of you too!

chipmonkey · 29/04/2011 23:38

Lovely about the scan, Lizzy!Smile

Try not to sweat it too much, cep I have to say, I was a nervous wreck before my nuchal scan which wasn't helped by the obs being delayed by an hour, due to an emergency.

But there is every chance your scan will be fine.

Lizzy, I know what you mean about the nuchal not being precise, it is far from precise. But I think if I got bad odds, that would be reason for me to do an amnio or CVS. I wouldn't terminate for Downs but think if I got a diagnosis of Patau's/Edwards/triploidy, I probably would.

PamSco · 30/04/2011 11:42

Hi All,

I'm new here. 1st pg and all a bit unreal. I'm a senile primigravida (lol) well I do keep forgetting where I put my keys. I have my dating scan on Tuesday but because of pain and spotting at c5 or 6 weeks I had a couple of scans early. So I have seen the heartbeat, that was cool. From the 2nd scan and dlp I am due about 14th Nov. I suspect the scan on tues will put it later and I may get a slightly different 40th birthday party than I'd planned!

Lots of worries about weight and age but we are taking each day as it comes. Lots of ms - can't wait for that to ease off, I can't eat which is very annoying so i have lost about half a stone. Planning on having amnio (cvs is too risky in our hospital - they have a much lower rate of mc with amnio). Until I pass that milestone I'm not being broody, just trying to do the right thing.

When did you all let people know? I'm a gob on legs so family and close friends know as of last week. After the scan on Tues I'll let work colleagues know, though i'm not sure if it is too soon. I have to explain why I'm falling asleep at my desk and randomly retching!

Anywho, best of luck to all.

Pam

clockchangebabes · 30/04/2011 14:39

Just thought I would say hello, another newbie. I did used to use another baby related site but decided I needed a change. This will be my second all being well at the grand age of 39. My first DS is 13 months.
I am currently awaiting the results of my nuchal scan and bloods. The sonographer would tell me nothing except that I was fat! Now have 3 week wait for blood results, God Save the darling NHS! My EDD is 4th November but who knows when LO will appear. My current belly lodger is called 'sible the sibling'.

Poppet45 · 30/04/2011 18:37

Hi Pam and Clock welcome aboard!!! My belly dweller is currently called Bunny as DH thought the EPU scan pic looked like one, and also pointed out that DS (20 months) would really like a rabbit [hmmm]

TerrysNo2 · 30/04/2011 18:56

Welcome Pam and EDD buddy clockchange

Hope everyone is having a good day. I am off out for a hot date with DH Grin.

knockedupagain · 30/04/2011 20:10

Well done to Hils, Chip, ImBrian, goldmaple and Lizzy for good scan/dr's app news, and welcome to Pam and clockchange !

I hope you have a lovely time out tonight Terrys.

TerrysNo2 · 30/04/2011 23:12

We are really moving along now ladies - there is a Jan 2012 thread already!!

Had a lovely evening with DH at a gastropub in the beautiful village of Shere (it was where that film with Kate Winslet and Jude Law was filmed) very picture perfect.

PamSco · 01/05/2011 07:16

That sound lovely TerrysNo2 we had a bbq last night and DP opened our last bottle of smuggled ale from California. I was so jealous - I had an egg cup full taste and it was beeeeeaaaaauuuutiful. An IPA from Mammoth Lakes flavoured with mountain sage and juniper. Hohum.

I can't believe how time is flying - a third of the way through nearly, gone in a flash. Or should that be gone in a retch?

Katiebeau · 01/05/2011 09:25

Welcome Pam and Clockchange and big whoop whoop for all the great scan news.

Not sure where the past 9 days have gone!!! Last 2 days of the holidays already. I hope everyone had a good time even if you couldn't take the whole week off.

Got comfortably back into my old jeans this week after finding out bump wasn't baby or fat - rather I was way more consipated than I realised (TMI)....... Anyway after scoffing for England at picnics etc this weekend maternity leggings back out!!!

Grin Pam, retch just about covers it!!

Sorry to all those who have had bad news since my last visit :( and welcome to all the newbies :)

I have FINALLY got my scan date through :) it's a week Thursday and seems like forever away! Also got my booking appointment with MW two weeks Monday. Everything seems to be moving much slower for me than everyone else, oh well just glad to have the dates in writing! Will mean I have 4 day weeks at work for the next 3 weeks which will be beneficial!

Am jealous of everyone having parties and BBQ's I've gone into a don't want to go out and see people stage at the moment sent OH out last night to make excuses while I'll watched BGT and knitted haha rock an roll lifestyle for me :)

PamSco · 01/05/2011 09:37

Don't be too jealous - my bbq was just me and him and I threw it all up afterward. Though 2 frozen orange juice lollies made me feel better Grin
