Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi everyone. Back home now after a few extra days in hospital as the little one got to grips with breastfeeding.

Quick version of the birth story: went in for an induction at 9am on Thurs 3rd; had first pessary at 10; some contractions, not very strong but frequent started around 12; had regular heart traces about every 30-45 minutes, all of which we fine till about 3pm when it seemed like the baby's heart rate was dropping and recovering, but not for long enough for her to recover her strength; even though I was barely dilated/effaced, they tried to break my waters at this point but couldn't; at about 3.30 the consultant decided the only way to ensure that the baby was OK was to do a c-section; baby delivered safely at 4.21pm.

Despite being absolutely terrifying, the c-section was surprisingly OK. The doctors/midwives/nurses were fantastic, very caring but clearly very on top of things. The baby was skin-to-skin within about five minutes and we had amazing recovery/after-care support too.

The little one will be Lucy Jean :)

We got home last night and we're just starting to get to grips with family/home life. Despite being amazingly calm and settled in hospital, Lucy was really unsettled last night and would only sleep when she was actually lying on me or OH. As a result, we got no sleep last night. Since speaking to my midwife and the post-natal ward midwife, it seems it's very common for babies to really struggle with the first night at home, to find the new bed etc very disorienting (I guess especially when they've had a few days in hospital). It would have been really helpful to know this in advance, so I'm passing on this wisdom to you all...

Fortunately she's much more settled again today, and asleep in her cot as we speak.

Congratulations to all the new arrivals -

Hello All,

I vanished for a while for a good reason - hence I went on the old thread. Thanks for letting me know, so the message I posted yesterday was as follows:

My due date is actually at the end of the week (12/3 although in this list it was still 11/3) but our beautiful baby boy (7.7lbs) arrived on Friday 04 March at 0226 - following an induction due to fluctuating High Blood Pressure on Wednesday and then an emergency C-section. Could a kind soul update the list for me please?

All's well that ends well and extremely happy to be a mum: we got back from hospital on Monday. Thus, dealing with the ups and downs of first days and persevering with breastfeeding - doesn't it take some strength at times? I am extremely tired due to sleepless nights and coping with the c-section but it was good to be home and have my husband help with picking the baby and bringing him to me rather than struggling out of bed first, then struggling to stand up, and then struggling to pick up baby, change him etc.

Well the whole thing was as far from what I ever imagined or planned as it possibly could, BUT the happiness of having our first son is also beyond what I could ever imagine.

Back to catching up on all your news on the thread now..

Love to you all,
A

wow, lots and lots of lovely baby news Grin had a pep talk with bump earlier and told him / her that he / she has outstayed welcome and its time to get to know the outside world....got a big kick in the ribs in return.
Carpal tunnel in my hands driving me DEMENTED, anyone else suffering from this?? hope it goes away when babi is born or will be a nightmare changing nappies etc :(
Looking forward to more wonderful news in the next few days, good luck everyone! x

Kagey · 09/03/2011 20:41

Congratulations Bluebeach, Larty, Lauizfer, Bunder and Nancy :)

Sorry if I have missed anyone out so far, the announcements are coming quickly now!

Hattie05 · 09/03/2011 20:43

Congrats to the latest arrivals! welcome am988.

Wintersun - sounds a bit premature to be discussing csections etc? You can see from this thread, many babies don't engage until days before delivery and you have plenty of time to go yet.

All well here, my little man still enjoying his sleeps.

EvianBaby · 09/03/2011 21:00

Congratulations to the new arrivals!

Well I have an update... had an appointment with the consultant on Monday. To cut a long story very short the baby is lying transverse again and there is no way it can come out in the position it is in. They tried moving it but it got distressed. In the end I didn't have a choice but to agree to a c section. I am going in on Friday. I am really excited now but feel very under prepared!

I would welcome advice from anyone that has had a section either this time around or previously on what to expect. My last one was under emergency conditions so I didn't have the opportunity to think about what I needed, or what would make the experience more enjoyable. If anyone has any tips of what to take with me, how to prepare etc I would be most grateful!

Going for my pre op tomorrow, not sure what that entails either but I'm sure it will give me info on what to expect on Friday.

How are the new mums and babies doing?

How are the overdue girls? Frustrating isn't it? DS was born 8 days past his due date, the amount of daily texts I got asking if 'there was any sign' was incredible!

Love to everyone, here's to a deluge of new arrivals in the next few days Grin

Lozario · 09/03/2011 21:09

Wow a flurry of little ones! Congrats everyone. And a few more boys starting to appear which is nice, my midwife is convinced I'm having a boy, which I'd love, but I think it's going to be a girl. We'll see...

spaceal I'd not realised it was possible to not be able to pop the waters - goodness that would have shocked me! Glad you're feeling ok. My DS1 would only sleep on our chests for the first month or so! I co-slept with him in the end for the first 5 weeks or so, just couldn't stay awake feeding him so used to feed him lying down and we both dropped off!

So apart from being in constant physical debilitating pain, which it seems we all are at this point, things are fine here - took DS1 to a playgroup this morning and felt like a celeb as everyone was cooing over my bump, it's a proper beach-ball bump but I've not really put on any weight elsewhere so everyone was saying I looked good which was a boost - I feel horrid! Had a nice nap in the afternoon whilst DS1 was down for his sleep... apart from got woken up by bloody Jehovah's witnesses!!!! Angry

Don't feel like I'm anywhere near popping though. Going to book acupuncture for 2 weeks time, that helped encourage DS1 to come out.

Sleep well all, more babies tomorrow???? :)

Lozario · 09/03/2011 21:12

Oooh cross-posted with Evianbaby - transverse is pretty unusual isn't it, is it very uncomfortable? Didn't have a CS with DS1 but know a few people who have and a scheduled section rather than emergency is definitely the way to go! They all say recovery time is much quicker but only if you allow yourself to, so be a lazy cow for the following 6 weeks and get as many slaves friends and family members doing things for you as you can. How exciting to know you'll meet the new little one at the end of the week!

EvianBaby · 09/03/2011 21:20

Hi Lozario - Thank you for your kind words and encouragement! Yes veryunusual at this stage! I have read somewhere that if the baby is in this position after 36 weeks then your uterus shapes around the baby making it very unlikely it will ever go vertical Confused

It is uncomfortable I suppose but i'm used to it now. The worst thing is the heartburn cos the baby's bum and head are still so high (almost into my ribs). The flipside is I don't really get any pain/pressure on my cervix etc like a lot of you seem to be experiencing!

Sending you labour vibes (you can have my share as it looks like I won't be needing them!)

JeelyPiece · 09/03/2011 21:27

Congratulations to the new parents!

Feeling very uncomfortable with all my excess fluid and am working myself up into a panic about how it will affect the birth and about the risk of the cord prolapsing when my waters go. I have no idea whether they are more or less likely to let me go past my due date, induce me, plan a section etc. I have another mw appt tomorrow so will see if I can get some answers there. After two mcs I was enjoying feeling like we were finally on track to have our first baby but now am feeling a bit shaken on that.

Dealing with crazy PILs too - I had said to DH to tell them to arrange to come up the second week in April (they're staying in their caravan a wee distance away thankfully, not with us!) but FIL has just been on the phone saying he's booked the site for a week from 20th March. I'm only due on the 18th! It took DH a while to get through to him that they could easily come and go for that week with no baby in sight. Apart from the fact we don't want descended upon as soon I've had the baby, particularly now we know about the polyhydramnios which could mean I'm kept in longer.

They still don't really seem to get the problem with coming on that date but as far as I'm concerned it is not happening! The last thing I want is them all hanging about waiting for me to go into labour. If they don't change the dates I'm going into hiding.

Wonder how many more babies we'll see before the week is out...

sam26oscar · 09/03/2011 21:37

Wow so many new babies hurray Grin

Evian, i had emergency c-section with my DS1 and planned Section with this one.

The atmosphere in theatre was great!!! All midwives and doctors having a laugh and joking about with me and DH, really put us at ease. I asked for the screen to be lowered as they delivered baby and also skin to skin as soon as was possible which i did whilst they stitched me up!!!

However, as soon as they said ok we're going to put the spinal in i started shaking as i was just reminded of what had gone on before, but one of the midwives i think, stayed with us at the top end and explained evrything that was going on and was so calm and rassuring that i did actually enjoy it!!

Recovery time i couldn't say if it is quicker as it was 6 and half years ago for me since DS was born and i am 40 yr old now so can't say as i am still in some pain still nearly 2 weeks on but that could just be cos i'm old now or i am expecting too much too soon!!

so i hope i havent scared you completely!! But for me it was a more about having control of something and asking for screen to be lowered etc, rather than no say last time iyswim??

So, good luck to you for fri Evian, and all of you who are still feeling cumbersome and fed up and waiting for bubba to arrive!

I have to say i don't miss being pregnant..at the moment!! and being restricted in almost all movement!! However, it was nice to be able to wear dungarees without an excuse Wink

sam26 thank you for the info and positive story. Skin to skin contact, seeing the baby's gender ourselves etc are really important to me this time as I felt like I missed last time. I will remember to ask tomorrow - eek!

Huge congrats to bluebeach, larty, lauzifer, am988, hattie, bunder and nancydrew Phew - I am very far behind now they are coming thick and fast!

Best of luck with the pre op evian - you are meeting your baby tomorrow!

jeely I don't know much about extra fluid but I hope you get the answers you need from your MW today.

Not much new from me but sending huge labour vibes to the overdue ladies, especially strangeways and anyone else struggling in these late days.

cherub59 · 10/03/2011 08:24

Hi all - well a week overdue now and pip am SO fed up of curry and pineapple! Am now content to sit bouncing on my ball whilst eating chocolate!!

Must admit to feeling a bit down about it as DS1 was 10 days over and at 8lb 5oz was a difficult labour then ventouse and dr commented that he was too big for me. Had been hoping this one would be early like DS2 who was 6lb 11oz and much easier.

Tried to tempt fate last night by putting all my nicest bed linen on as I thought sods law must apply but other than some aching nothing.

Taking DS1 to nursery this morning and DS2 to little gym so trying to keep active!!!! Seeing MW this afternoon but no idea if will be offered a sweep!

Congrats to all those new announcements - hope you are enjoying these snuffly early days. Tough but wonderful I seem to remember and can't wait to meet my new little man!

Due date twins and others overdue hope you all have announcements soon!

Sorry to sound a bit miserable!

Jupiter118 · 10/03/2011 08:51

strangeways is in labour I think - we have both been posting on another thread. Fingers crossed for some news from her soon.

evian good luck with the pre op - no experience here but friends have told ms that planned c is a really calm experience compared to emcs. Good luck.

Back to crap tv, programme about triplets. Really ought to get dressed!

StrangewaysHereICome · 10/03/2011 08:55

Hi, thanks for you thought Halo and you work on the lists!

Well I lost my plug last night and have been up since 2am with contractions coming every 5 mins. They have tailed off a bit now but I hope to have an announcement today!! Off for a lie down and then a walk to hopefully get it all going again. If my waters go things may pick up a bit. The mw has been and all is okay.

I so hope this will get me out of the dreaded induction!

Thinking of you cherub being overdue is miserable. I hope things start for you soon. I haven't been much of a bundle of joy lately myself.

To the other overdue ladies, fingers crossed things start for you too xx

niamh29 · 10/03/2011 08:58

Hi all, afraid I'm also not 100% today, have been sleeping badly the last couple of nights, don't know what the problem Is but I do have a mild period like pain down low that could be somewhat responsible, so I'm very tired today. I also have a bit of a sore throat so just feeling a bit run down at the mo.

I have a scan today so I'm hoping that I might find out if baby is anywhere near making an appearance but if I know them they'll just tell me to come back in 2 weeks and I think I would be so disheartened. I know I'm just 38+2 but getting very impatient!

Congrats to all the new arrivals, I hope you are all enjoying your wonderful bundles of joy, when ye are feeling frustrated and tired just remember how jealous we all are that your little ones are out safe and sound already.

Kagey · 10/03/2011 09:04

Congrats AM988!

All the best Evian for tomorrow.

Happy due date to all the 10th March-ers!

Medee · 10/03/2011 09:07

Good luck, Strangeways

Jupiter118 · 10/03/2011 09:08

I think we are all fully entitled to be miserable if we want - blame the hormones. I just keep crying for no real reason and then am fine again.

Niamh hope your scan goes well - I think I am 1 day ahead of you and also moaning lots so you are in company.

superpenguin · 10/03/2011 09:31

Morning all.

welcome to the thread wintersdawn. I wouldn't worry just yet, you have plenty of time.

congrats to am988 :)

wonder how ckny got on yesterday.

and good luck to strangeways

still nothing to report from me!

sittinghippo · 10/03/2011 09:40

Morning ladies. just popping on to say fingers crossed for strangeways, cant wait to hear of your imminent arrival!!

Had sweep yesterday on my due date, but nothing has happened as yet, still hoping but will have another sweep in a day or two.

Good luck to everyone, we are all SO close to the finish line. Smile Smile Smile

Jenchandler · 10/03/2011 09:42

Ooh several more baby announcements - congrats all! Hope those who are desperately waiting pop in the next few days! Good luck strangeways - hope things get moving for you! I was induced with synto and it wasn't horrendous - although nothing to compare it too!

Isobel isnow doing well! Initially lost 9% of weight snd got jaundiced but is now feeding so much better and she is gaining weight slowly but surely! The only thing now is to reverse her night and day. We also need to convince her that the crib is equally as comfy as mummy! She is a completely gorgeous girl and I'm besotted with her!

Thinking of everyone today - xxxx
