This might be a bit tmi but I think that these things helped to bring it on.
I had a sweep with the midwife on the friday but that did not set anything off then. What I did do was some breast massage - as if you where hand expressing . This did make the BHs come on harder. Then a spot of ahem DIY in the evening and morning of Saturday. I gavemyself a quick exam in the bath and found that there was a bloody show and after that came out,'contractions started properly.
For breast massage to be effective you must do it for at least 15'mins at anyone time. Also care must be taken to avoid overstimulating the womb.

Congratulations on the further new arrivals. I reckon I'll be here alone at the end of April the way things are shaping up!

I've had no signs at all- due next Sunday- and the mw told me on Thursday that the baby isn't engaged AT ALL! Well, we had curry last night, then pineapple. Am guzzling raspberry leaf tea and dragged my enormous bump on a 3 mile walk around Wandsworth common this morning.. reeeeeeally hope he isn't very overdue. I'm not even sure if you can do a sweep if the baby isn't engaged?! What then?!

Maybe I'll try the boob thing next but don't want to cause any problems- if baby isn't engaged I'm not sure how helpful bringing on contractions would be.

baby boy arrived 17th March, 8lb 7oz started naturally with a show and contractions 27 hours before he was born, gas and air and pool all helped me along in the hospital! BF v difficult but getting there slowly...
no time to read or write more now he's very demanding but will be back on for a look later when i get a chance, congrats to all the other new mums and good luck to those waiting, it won't be long now!

Congratulations Highlandbird! I'm sure it won't be long now Medee, you discussed inductions with your MW yet if baby doesn't start shifting? Lets hope LO makes an appearance soon!! KPidgeon, if it makes you feel better I have been told that sometimes even for first timers baby doesn't engage till labour. My mum says she never had any signs before any of us were born until labour started. And there are some very unfortunate ladies on this thread who have been having signs and twinges for weeks but still no baby - I'm finding the signs of and no baby more irritating because now I'm waiting rather than organising, nesting and pampering myself.

Catherine: I actually love seeing the list being updated cause its nice to see the arrivals list growing and the due list shrinking, although it's a very scary thought that there is only 11 days left in March, I don't want an april baby!

This weekend has been so weird, DH and DD1 have a cold and DD2 is teething like mad so it's been hard on one hand but boring on the other cause we're not doing as much as we normally do.

Into my third week of maternity leave now......yikes!!!

MW appt tomorrow, and there is already an induction appt made for Thursday, which I obviously hope to avoid. Think I will take the sweep tomorrow.

Medee take the sweep, and then book another for two days later. I SWEAR that is what got my contractions started good and proper, as I had had no signs whatsoever until that second sweep.

Just to update Ethan is in special care they think he has an infection due PROM[my waters had been gone for 52 hours by the time he was born.
Also has a nasogastic tube to be fed formula as his blood sugar was low and he was jittery. I have onlu had 3 hours sleep since his birt and cannot stop crying. I love him so much.

me23 I hope he recovers soon. My DS1 was whisked off to special care at birth, it's so worrying I know. I hope you can get some decent rest, you need sleep to keep your strength up and recover yourself x

I am exhausted, went out in Covent Garden last night for dinner with friends, everyone thought I was mad at 40 weeks preg! Cramps on and off all evening this eve but baby has been squirming around a LOT today. I'm sure it's gonna be this week for me - although DH has asked if I can hang on til Wednes so he can finish off at work?!

My DS spent 4 days in NICU and DH and I were in bits ? and he was only there because he was a lazy toad and wouldn?t feed. Hang in there and really do try and get some rest if you possibly can.

niamh I feel similarly anxious ? I have never started labour naturally either and inspite of lots of the signs I feel like baby just doesn?t want to come out (due date today). I?ve lost mucous plug weeks ago (whole hospital thing with steroid injections etc), bloody show off and on for over a week now, increasingly heavy discharge, periody cramping for weeks and weeks now ? have had odd moments of being regular, but never for long and loose bowels. Have had 2 sweeps, but nothing ? another tomorrow. It feels like it might never end.

Baby keeps moving also (good obviously), but feels like it can?t quite get in a good position to get out. What does transverse feel like? For the last couple of nights just at about bedtime the head has seemed to be in my left hip ? very very uncomfortable.

I have also in the last week developed very very swollen feet and hands and have had headaches off and on with flashing bits in vision. Went to del suite last week, but got the distinct feeling they thought I was wasting their time as whilst blood pressure was borderline my urine and bloods were clear. Quite scared about PE as had it with DS, but not sure I feel I can go back again. So have taken the midwife drug of choice paracetemol in the hope it might shift it.

Sorry what a whinge bag I am ? just so so fed up. Must get a grip of myself though!!!

38+5 today so officially still a way to go until due date, but I do feel different, like it's imminent - does that make any sense to anyone? I'm a first timer and I haven't particularly had any definite signs really apart from a few BH and shooting pains down there, but I just feel like it's going to happen soon.

I have to say that I'm really enjoying being pregnant and will miss my bump. Maybe I won't feel the same if I'm still in the same position in 2 weeks!

It's awful how they made you feel like you were wasting their time - changes in vision are always important to be checked so you did the right thing.

Yup Jupiter, sounds like we're in the same place mentally but it must be very frustrating to get so many signs and no baby. Don't feel like your being over cautious with the headaches, if you've had PE before your right to be cautious and you should get any changes checked out.

Eva: best of luck with your section, i don't know if you had a cs before but it's all very calm and quick and you'll have your baby in your arms before you know it. Update us when you can, will be thinking of you!
