Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
StrangewaysHereICome · 17/03/2011 21:44

Just popping in to see how you are all getting along.

Tooimmature I am so sorry for the loss of Thea, you and your family must be so devastated and shocked. I wish there was something i could do or say to ease your pain. I am so truly sorry you are going through this. I wish you all the strength in the world to get through this. Thea is a beautiful name. Love to you x

Will post more later.

1Catherine1 · 17/03/2011 23:26

Thanks for all your input about the sweep. Will ask anyway tomorrow and see what she says. Tried everything to get labour going but nothing yet but really bad pain in my bum which keeps swapping from side to side - it feels like a trapped nerve and I'm finding it so hard to walk. I think midwife will say baby is fully engaged tomorrow anyway as I'm more hungry than I have been in months, there seems to be room for my stomach at long last. Also I constantly feel like I need the toilet but nothing much ever comes out so I just think LO has moved onto harassing my bladder. I was on babycentre earlier reading the Can I tell if labour is about to happen soon? section of that article and think I can tick the 4 signs so now I'm just waiting for something more significant to happen.

While I was in the bath though a thought occurred to me (probably a stupid one) but how would I know if my waters broke while I was in the bath? Would it continue leaking when I got out or could it be possible to miss it? Blush I know, its probably a stupid question but I would rather post it here and look stupid to a smaller audience than if I posted it on the Pregnancy forum.

Talking of baths, edeluna - good luck with what might be contractions. :) Anything happen after your bath?

EvaLongoria · 18/03/2011 09:28

Happy due date to me & Oceanbreeze & JeelyPiece.

Good luck to everyone else

edeluna · 18/03/2011 09:49

Catherine No, nothing happened after the bath. A few more contractions, but I guess they're finally the BH I've been waiting for. Really hoping things will kick off this weekend, though.

I've also thought about waters going in the bath and whether I'd notice. I imagine if they break in a gush that you'd feel it. Maybe someone more experienced can enlighten us, though?

Good luck to you with the MW appointment today and to everyone who's due/overdue!

LovelyKatie · 18/03/2011 10:49

Good morning everyone
Lovely sunny day, hope everyone is feeling good.

8th day overdue now. Got my term plus 10 (tech 11) appt on Monday. Offer me another sweep heart monitor etc.

Iv become quite accustomed to this baby not wanting to come out now so when it does I'll probably have my legs shut!!

I feel good just a little impatient now. Scared if I have to be induced and even worse if it calls for a caesarean.

Happy due date to everyone who is due today.

SarahScot · 18/03/2011 11:00

tooimm I am horrified to hear of your loss. I cannot even begin to comprehend what you and your DH are going through but my thoughts are with you both. x x x

doubleshotlatte · 18/03/2011 12:02

Just wanted to report that we had our baby son on Monday at 8am. They didn't have to induce me after all!
We went into hospital at 2am with strong cxn, much more painful this 2nd time round. I hung onto TENS until the highest possible level, then gas & air, then asked for and... actually got... an epidural thanks to the MW. "She really needs it" she said firmly to the anesthetist, who was lovely, very calm and reassuring and very skilled. Despite my previous back surgery scarring, metal pins etc, the mobile epidural worked perfectly, no side effects. Despite being 3cm or so and the cervix effaced, baby head engaged etc I hadn't been progressing as fast as I expected so I really needed the rest and to stay calm.
Then MW told me I was ready, it was time to push at 8am. And DH announced he needed to get the car park permit. I was incredulous "You want me to wait!?" But we did of course and DH was a real support thru the next stage... I could still feel enough to push effectively, until the MW realised the cord was around baby's neck and called the doctors. They were amazing, very reassuring, I still gave birth naturally (terrified of forceps or ventouse) but they helped make it possible. I only had a 1st degree tear and baby was very well, a chubby 8.2 lbs, very eager for his first feed. We were home in less than 24hrs Grin

niamh29 · 18/03/2011 12:13

Congratulations doubleshotlatte! Delighted to hear about your little boy and that you had a good labour!

Catherine: I'm not too sure about what it would feel like if your waters broke in the bath but they will definately keep going afterwards, once your waters break they stay leaking all the time. Hope that helps? Is a bath supposed to be good for helping bring on labour? I'll take any suggestions! : ))

Medee · 18/03/2011 12:14

Congratulations, Doubleshot!

emma31177 · 18/03/2011 12:27

congratulation doubleshot and family xxxx

doubleshotlatte · 18/03/2011 12:59

TooImmature so sorry for your loss, Thea is such a beautiful name. Hope you have the love and support you need right now. And really hope you get the answers you need when the time comes.

doubleshotlatte · 18/03/2011 13:19

Ooh, I meant to add, if it helps, these were what told me labour was imminent... Much TMI warning...

Since Friday I had this strong urge to "go" - like I had to empty my bowels like never before - yet nothing happening. I wondered if this was causing the excruciating pain in my groin and legs. I have to say i knew I had to get this sorted to start labour so I had some lactulose Sat morning... which worked...
Had messy "show" all day, by Sunday evening waters broke, leaking more than gushing.
9pm I felt hungry for the first time in days, had a huge dinner, more lactulose, more loo trips, stuck TENS on, and by 2am I was screaming at DH to go to hospital.

Lozario · 18/03/2011 14:49

Congrats doubleshot!! glad it all went ok, esp that they weren't funny about epidural - my main fear is that I won't get one, I've heard so many stories of women being fobbed off without one recently and I NEEDED it for DS1!!! What did you do about your DD1 whilst you were in labour? My mum is coming up tmro to stay until (and for a week after) baby is born but I'll be labouring here until we go to hossie so quite worried about him seeing me in pain (he's 21 months old now).

waters breaking - I'm no help, had them broken for me in hossie last time and ever since having DS1 I'm a teensy bit incontinent (pelvic floor is SHOT!!!) so I'm worried about the same thing, I won't be able to tell??!!

Ok time to get DS1 up from his nap... We're getting a curry tonight, am just wondering how spicy to go!!

PS I wonder how me is getting on!

doubleshotlatte · 18/03/2011 15:16

Lozario my mum came up to stay too, just as well cos DD had high fever leading unto my due date and i couldnt have managed without help. Luckily we went to hosp in the early hrs so DD didn't have to see mummy in pain or even going away.

As for epidural, try mentioning it when u call the labour ward, remember you can have it for the 1st stage, no need to wait til x cm dilated. Good luck :)

TooImmature2BMum · 18/03/2011 15:29

Thanks everyone for all your kind thoughts. Blessings on all the babies born or due to be born on this thread!

Spilt, knowing you had lost Bobbie and then gone on to conceive again was a great help in the first few confused hours - I kept thinking about you and wondering how soon DH and I could try again. Ironically, I had an excellent delivery - no tears or stitches - so hopefully it won't be too long until we can try for a little brother or sister for our angel. That's really all that's keeping me going at the moment.

1Catherine1 · 18/03/2011 16:25

Congratulations doubleshotlatte and family. xx

Happy due date to all those due today, looking forward to some more updates.

niamh29, according to my mum a hot bath can start off labour but it didn't work for me. Although it gave me a good opportunity to make sure my legs were shaved (along with other areas) and it'll be the last time I try before LO arrives as that was tricky enough - so here's hoping she arrives in the next week. I should also add though that my mum never needed to "start off" labour as she never managed to get past 34 weeks anyway.

Katie I hope labour starts on its own soon!

MW appointment was rather dull this morning. MW said that first babies are usually late and she would do a sweep next week (when I'm 40+5) and then we would discuss inductions and book one for the week after if LO still hasn't arrived. She said LO was now 2/5 engaged and was hopeful that next week she would be visiting me and baby. I think though she was just being encouraging because I wasn't a happy bunny. Chilling out today as I didn't sleep well last night and I need the rest.

1Catherine1 · 18/03/2011 16:57

Tooimmature I hope you and your DH are staying strong for each other.

Thought we should probably update the list for the babies who have been born in the last few days. I hope you don't mind me putting Thea on Tooimmature, feel free to edit it in any way you feel suitable. I hope I haven't missed anyone. Please check as there was several pages to scroll through.

spilttheteaagain · 18/03/2011 17:09

TooImmature I've been looking out for your posts and thinking of you a lot over the last few days. DH sends his love and sorry-ness too, as he said it's just heartbreaking to hear about, let alone to experience I'm sure.

TTC again was the only thing that made any sense to us admist all the sense of being totally at sea and our world destroyed. It was the only reason I could see to wake up each day. I can't really put into words how black the early weeks were for me, and those days still come. What you've been through is even more shocking and devastating, I really can't comprehend it. There's so much we were actually spared, weird as that sounds. I picture your situation, on ML having had everyone's good wishes and a send off from work, in a house surrounded by baby clothes, toys, the pram (I remember your excitement when it arrived!), the cot, going overdue and fending off a barrage of phonecalls from excited relatives of the "have you had the baby yet?" variety... my heart breaks for you. We had none of that hell to contend with.

Excellent that your delivery was a good one if that's an ok phrase to use, and as you say should mean ttc can happen soon if you want to. We were advised to wait for the first period before trying. However that meant I was actually pregnant when we saw the consultant to go over the results from Bobbie's birth, and as you may recall they detected a toxoplasma infection and said ttc should be put off until that had died down and I'd gained immunity. So maybe it would have been wise to wait until we'd had that appointment too. Now we have the scary situation of being seen by a Fetal Medicine Specialist soon to see if they can see any evidence of brain damage to this baby from the infection.

Emotionally it's such a screwed up place to be. I've struggled so much with the confusion over being pregnant with a baby who wouldn't have existed if Bobbie had made it. I wish so much she had, but I am willing this one to survive and be ok too. I dreaded anyone thinking we were trying to replace our lost baby, or thinking that a new pregnancy made everything ok now. Because both of those things are total crap. 5 and half months on from losing my baby girl I still cry for her almost daily, I ache, and at times I just can't stand it anymore. How do you keep going without your baby?? I remember at her burial, I wanted nothing so much as to crumple up into that hole with her and not have to feel the pain anymore. I thought I was going actually mad at times.

You will survive my love, but you'll never be the same again either. Thea will always be with you in your thoughts, your heart and your family.

Not sure if you've found it or not but just to let you know there is a thread in Bereavement for bereaved parents. They gave me a lot of comfort and support, and there are a number of mums on there who have lost babies at or near term or shortly after birth. You'd be welcomed if you wanted to talk/rant/cry to them. One of them often says that she only got through the early days and weeks by muttering to herself "One foot in front of the other and don't forget to breathe!". It's all you can do. Much love xx

KPidgeon · 18/03/2011 17:41

Spilt what an honest and amazing post. You have been so brave. Love to both you and to you again tooimmature and your DHs.

RockChick1984 · 18/03/2011 18:15

Hi all, just a quick update from hospital - Baby Alfie was born this morning at 9.55am on his due date! I thought I had an upset tummy in the night just after midnight, but when I was still in agony with it at 2.30 my dh decided to point out to me that usually tummy cramps with a dodgy belly don't just come and go at random! We rang labour ward, who asked us to come in, I was only 2cm but contractions were every 2 mins so examined me again 30 mins later and I was 4cm so stayed in. Managed to avoid epidural, however I asked for it at 1 point and no issues with getting it, I just changed my mind! Birth was fantastic and very fast for first baby, until pushing stage - pushed for over 2 hours despite no pain relief as diamorphine had well and truly worn off before I started! Only threats of ventous being used was enough to make me push him out as I was terrified of this / forceps! Had to be cut and stitched back up which was horrible but necessary - he weighed in at 8lb 6oz so really not small - so relieved I didn't go overdue as he would have been massive!

Split: What an amazing post, it really made me cry to read of your heartbreak and what we can only imagine tooimmature is going through also, it breaks my heart to imagine your grief and can only hope the pain will ease with time, my thoughts are with ye both and your families.

Congratulations rockchick, I'm delighted that your baby boy is here sage and sound.

Wow, this thread is such a rollercoaster of emotions.......pretty much like parenthood is I guess!

pushmepullyou · 18/03/2011 20:44

Just popping on to confirm that my as yet nameless DS was born by ELCS on 8th March weighing 8lb 4 oz.
Very calm peaceful brth. Up and about the same day and recovery so far much much better than last time.

Tooimmature I am so very sorry to hear your devastating news. Thinking of you xx
