So sorry to hear your terribly sad news TooImmature. Do take care of yourself.

1Catherine1 · 17/03/2011 14:05

Quick question - got a MW appointment tomorrow afternoon when I'll be 39+5, just wondered if she will offer a membrane sweep or if I should ask? I really don't want to go over due but don't really know what to think about the whole process as I'm a first timer.

haloflo · 17/03/2011 14:09

catherine My last appointment was at 38+4 and she said they wouldn't offer me a sweep until 41 weeks. Not sure if that is usual though - be interested in others experiences as I was considering asking for one at next appointment when I would be 40+4.

Lozario · 17/03/2011 14:14

My midwife said I could request a sweep from the 40 week mark, so I'll get one on Tues (I'll be 39+6). she's rubbish at them anyway apparently so it prob won't do anything but at least she can tell me what's going on down there at the same time!

me23 · 17/03/2011 14:22

Congrats jammie, update from me water's broke yesterday came to hospital for monitoring today and CTG not totally reassuring so am being induced no homebirth anymore but am been looked after well hopefully can still have normal birth. I'll update when I can x

KPidgeon · 17/03/2011 14:30

me all the best and take care- look forward to your news.

Catherine I had a 38+ 5 MW appointment at noon today and she said no sweep until 40+ weeks too. Sweeps are possible, apparently but they talk you through the pros and cons of other inductions (the hormone thing)..

Jupiter118 · 17/03/2011 14:54

me all the best

jammie congrats and glad you feel more supported.

tooimm you have been in my thoughts lots. Take good care.

Catherine think my MW might be a bit gung-ho she said I could request at 38w as per NICE guidelines. Personally couldn't find it in guidelines but they are 450 pages! So I requested and had one last thurs at 38+3 it produced lots of 'show' and some 'pains' which did get regular briefly. Was at hospital tue and had another VE and another sweep while MW was doing it - more show (utterly) grim and more pains but nothing definite. Must depend on nhs trust or MW I think. Is also no 2 for me and difficult pregnancy in parts first time so don't know tbh. You can always ask???

Jupiter118 · 17/03/2011 14:54

Ps - didn't hurt for me, Bt the maybe is a bit 'baggy' down there anyway??

niamh29 · 17/03/2011 20:01

Me: best of luck, hope all goes well for you!

No news here, had a nice day with DH and the kids (I'm in Ireland so it was a holiday today) went to parade, all very chilled.

justmatureenough2bdad · 17/03/2011 20:18
EvaLongoria · 17/03/2011 20:45

justmatureenough2bdad You are both in our prayers. Thinking of you in this time.

EvaLongoria · 17/03/2011 20:50

1Catherine1 Apparently if its your 1st baby then they not suppose to offer or do a sweep until after 40+ weeks, because it can mean that maybe you are not ready to have the baby yet. That is what the midwife said at an ante-natal class. But if its your second then it should not do too much harm to try before due date. My midwife tried at 38 weeks but it hurt like hell and it was unsuccessful.

Anyway its my due date tomorrow and maybe baby will be here naturally else definitely will have c-section on Monday.

Good luck and hopefully will see some more news of new arrivals here over the next few days

edeluna · 17/03/2011 21:07

My due date has come and just about gone without much fanfare ... although for the past 1.5?2 hours I've been getting what might be contractions. I'm not sure.

I started feeling like the only way I could possibly get through another two weeks was if I convinced myself that baby wouldn't come until the last possible minute, so I'm trying not to get too excited.

Going to take a nice bath now and see what happens.
