Goldenbear can I just check- and sorry for a detailed question- when you say a "clear out of the system" I think that's what's happening with me- constant toilet/bowel movements? Sorry guys- just a bit unusual after things being rather slow in that department during most of my pregnancy! Is that a symptom of imminent labour? (hope hope!) Sorry if I've misinterpreted though.

Congratulations to Strangeways great that you got the birth you wanted after all that waiting.

K x

GeekLove · 11/03/2011 12:15

KPidgeon I has those for about 3 weeks before DC1 was born. I had those until last week but now they have started up again.

As for me I am OVERDUE!!!
no twinges or anything. I have tried yoga positions (the bum in the air one) an attempt at a DIY sweep ( couldn't find the cervix!) and finally a hands-free sweep courtesy of DH
Have been walking around and feel a bit cranky but reckon it will settle down.

OP posts:
highlandbird · 11/03/2011 12:23

Congratulations Strangeways fab news that you had the homebirth you so wanted, great news :)

KPidgeon yes I've been constipated through my whole pregnancy but last few days have been constant bowel movements (love the glamorous side of pregnancy!!!) I think its just the body's way of preparing for labour, but apparently doesn't mean its imminent, sorry!

Catherine unfortunately we live, literally, in the middle of nowhere (the maternity unit is an hour and a half away!!) and the local hotel is still shut for the winter, along with the fact we actually have to pick visitors up from 2 miles away on our dirt track, means the only option is for them to stay, have already told my mum that she's not staying for 2 weeks, I love her to bits but have explained that I want time for me and OH to get used to having a family. Luckily she hasn't taken offence, just going to stay for a couple nights and do all my cooking and washing...can cope with that! I may have to be a bit blunt to others, MIL can be a bit overwhelming at times! Really, really wish there was a travelodge / similar nearby!

Hope everyone is feeling well today, mw visiting this afternoon, and is bringing splints for my hands so I may be able to get some sleep tonight :)

TooImmature2BMum · 11/03/2011 12:30

Congrats Strangeways!

V eventful night - started contractions at 5.15, which were 4 minutes apart and gradually got stronger and stronger and more frequent until every couple of minutes. Went to hospital at 11pm, only to be told I was only 1cm dilated and sent home again. Contractions still every 3 minutes for most of the night - lots of paracetamol and got in the bath at 4am. At about 5.30 things started to calm down - contractions every 6 or 7 minutes, and I started to nearly fall asleep in the bath. Went to bed and managed to snooze between cx, until got up at 8 to pee and threw up violently. Called hospital again, MW said this could go on for 2 days! Cx have really slowed down, though. Managed to sleep for a good chunk of the morning and am just about to start walking etc to try to get them going again. Ouch!

Jupiter118 · 11/03/2011 12:44

tooimmature sounds eventful hope you manage to sleep some more before it gets going again!

Kpidgeon I have now had the 'clearing out' for the last 3 weeks. It subsided for 2 days earlier this week but is back with vengeance now. V unpleasant.

I have been so lazy this morning read two thirds of a trashy mixer mystery and lazed and lazed. Must get going now as need to go to the bank , buy something for dinner and pick DS up from nursery. Can barely wait for strangers to continually come up to me and say 'goodness when is that baby due' ie you are massive. Oh really I hadn't noticed.

Catherine last day of work for you - yippee!!!!

jeffily · 11/03/2011 12:57

Massive congratulations to the new arrivals, think I have said so to everyone but strange anyway. Hope you are all having wonderful first days with your newborns.

I love the name Hester! Am going to keep that one up my sleeve for next time- if there is one...

Well, we are off line from this evening and the BIG MOVE commences tomorrow, so I'll not be about for a while. I am sending everyone good wishes and luck for happy and healthy births, first days, and first weeks. Thanks for all being there over the last months, it's been emotional! Must fly, there is still at least 50% of my 2 bed to pack and not much time in which to do it. Ahhhhhhh.

Stay calm, stay calm....

Love to all x

niamh29 · 11/03/2011 13:01

Hope things pick up for you tooimmature, at least your on your way I guess.

Best of luck with your last day Catherine!

Having lots of braxton hicks and my bump has definitely gotten lower, I'm so impatient though, its overwhelming how much you want the baby when it's gets this close.

Got some tingling in my arm last night and this morning it is spreading up my arm and into my shoulder, I have gotten carpel tunnel before but it was just a numbing in my hands, never really gotten it this bad before, anyone else gotten this? I'm sure it'll pass soon.

Had a lovely morning browsing through the shopping centre and drinking coffee while reading my book........bliss!

me23 · 11/03/2011 13:39

Hope things pick up again soon tooimmature best to rest while you can for now though.

Good luck with the move jeffily how exciting if stressful!

I have also been clearing out for weeks now! definately not a sign of imminent labour for me.

Medee · 11/03/2011 13:46

best of luck with the move Jeff

sounds exciting, TooImm

Purplefan · 11/03/2011 14:58

Congratulations on the latest arrivals ladies. Smile

I had my pre-op apt yesterday so now have my pre-meds and info ready for Tuesday when we're booked in for CS.

I am however thinking that we may not make it to Tuesday... had really bad back ache last night and today I have alot of pelvic pain which makes it very uncomfortable to walk... midwife said she thinks it is baby's head pushing onto my pubic bone... to top this off I had a slight show upon wiping myself when I went to the toilet about 20 mins ago!!Hmm
Might not mean anything, but we'll see!! x

bluebeach · 11/03/2011 15:16

Thanks everyone for the congratulations. I just wanted to check in and congratulate all the new arrivals! Sorry I'm not mentioning you all by name but I have new baby brain and am also holding a sleeping Hester.

Good luck as well to the rest of you!

Just a a tip for any first timers still to pop....
Get a tube of the Lanolin nipple cream 'Lansinoh' now for your hospital bag. I only discovered it on day 4 when my nipples were already ravaged. It is healing them, but its a slow painful process and breast feeding is a bit traumatic. I think if I had used the cream from day one I would have avoided a lot of pain...it really is a miracle worker. You can get a tube from big tescos for £10ish or order it from the chemist.

Oh also, if after the birth you notice yourself getting increasingly smelly 'down there', get it checked out. I went to the docs about it yesterday...she gloved up, reached in (yes you can now reach into my vagina!) and pulled out a great handful of rotting placenta. I'm now on anti biotics in case of infection. bleugh!!!!

Spilt, I wil PM you soon about stroud x

fingers crossed for all of you xxxxx

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 11/03/2011 16:39

Bluebeach I second Lansinoh. I bought it in advance but didn't pack in hosp bag as assumed it was for once feeding is established. Thank god for v clever sil who brought some to hosp on day 1 - it helps soothe/ mend / protect nipples and I'd have been in trouble without it.

Also bluebeach - was it just smell or also colour that alerted you to poss infection? Sorry if tmi but I'm still bleeding a lot (only day 3 so no surprise) but instead of red red it is pink tinged with white - no idea if that's normal and have just been told not to expect midwife's first visit until Monday as they are busy today and my local hosp doesn't do weekend visits.

Better go - lo has just fallen asleep feeding so had better wake her into action...

Good luck everyone - the wait is definitely worth it. Congrats to all the other new mothers - also have baby brain and remembering which breast to feed from or when to change a nappy is about as much as I can manage. Talking of which - ugh, smelly baby... Oh well changing her will wake her up!

KPidgeon · 11/03/2011 17:03

bluebeach poor you- that sounds horrible but glad you got it sorted and you're on antibiotics now. Thanks for fore-warning us.

I have now put my nipple cream in the hospital bag!- Another good tip.

tooimmature good luck with everything and purplefan good luck if it's your time too!

Jeffily all the best with the move. Hope it goes well and isn't tooo stressful.

Catherine if you check in- happy maternity leave! I bet you thought this day would never come. Hope you have a nice evening to celebrate and enjoy relaxing from now while you can.

Glad to hear that the "clearing out" is normal but shame it doesn't mean labour is happening tomorrow!!

I'm sure I'll check in again but all the best for any births over the weekend and to all you other pregnant but still waiting ladies- have nice relaxing ones! x

1Catherine1 · 11/03/2011 17:11

Afternoon ladies,

MATERNITY LEAVE IS NOW HERE! Been a busy day - Cleared out my room to an acceptable standard, got the nicest card from one of my tutor group and was greeted in morning briefing with a plant from my head of department and some flowers from the head of year that I'm a tutor of. I was rather embarrassed as I was late for briefing and walked in hoping nobody would notice to be greeted with a mass cheer. Blush Apparently working up till 39 weeks isn't normal and people keep telling me how well I have done. Managed to persuade IT that I should keep my laptop since the NUT says that I shouldn't have to give it back but they say they might contact me if they desperately need it - don't really want to confess to wanting it to watch TV series, listen to music, charge phones and charge my Nintendo DS while in hospital. Idk if they will think this is an acceptable use of a school resource.

Today I felt worse than I've felt through my whole pregnancy. I've had terrible pelvic pain all day and have had a achey period type pain too. It has been most unpleasant especially as I was determined to get through the day and start my ML at the time I had planned. Wondered if it could be a sign of something happening but I think its probably more likely that it is a result of attempting to test out one of the many theories of encouraging labour Blush - I don't think I will try that one again, my OH will just have to go without! Next on the list - curry!

Tooimmature I hope it all starts up again for you soon! We are short on announcements today :) And on that note, happy due date to Rayeraye, Sarahscot and ckny1 and where are all yesterday's due babies?!

Goldenbear · 11/03/2011 17:43

1catherine1, I cannot believe you have just started maternity leave, well enjoy whats left of it, I have fond memories of utterly indulging myself with trips to the cinema in the day the first time around, mind you I did have 6 weeks off before my DS arrived - he was late by 11 days.

kpidgeon, sorry to have got your hopes up. I am comparing this experience with my last so I thought it may be a 'sign'. With my DS I had absolutely nothing happen until I was induced. Within my nct group I was the only one not to have the baby engage atall, I didn't have a show, my waters didn't break. I just recall visiting the midwife near the end from about 36 weeks with no news of any changes in the situation as the due date arrived, including, the clearing out aspect. I suspect this time I just wishing for it to be more straight forward!

Tooimmature, sounds like things are going to happen soon - good luck!

Medee · 11/03/2011 18:20

Happy Mat Leave, Catherine!

haloflo · 11/03/2011 19:38

kpidgeon As far as I understand it the clearing out is mostly because the baby is engaged and causing pressure on more than just the bladder!

bluebeach Lansinoh is now in my hospital bag, was just going to leave it at home but as it doesn't take up much space and sounds like it could be valuable, it's going in. I can't believe your GP visit today, I am definatly going to be checking what is normal post birth. Hope you don't get an infection.

catherine Yey for ML! I cannot believe you were at work this week, I wouldn't have been able to do it. Interesting about the pains - you want your baby to arrive now or want her to give you a couple of days rest first?

tooimmature Hope things are going well from you.

jeffily Best of luck with the move.

purple Are you wanting your baby to hang on til Tuesday? Best of luck for the CS whether it is tuesday or sooner.

Strangeways Huge congrats, looking forward to your birth story. So glad you still got your HB.

Also I noticed I left nancy in the "due" section of the list. To save endless list posts could the next person to update it with an annoucement remove her from there? I'll do it if I get chance. Thank you Smile

KPidgeon · 11/03/2011 20:40

Catherine keep track of your period cramps- that's how my mate Emma's labour started..

Lozario · 11/03/2011 20:54

Catherine you've done so well working up til now, I never could have!!

Been feeling well rough today, totally exhausted and in the last couple of weeks the sickness has really come back - I don't feel hungry at all but just start retching when I need to eat something. Nice! Can't remember what it's like to be genuinely hungry, I guess our tummies are squashed up so much now? Or am I the only weirdo not able to make the most of the extra required calories??!

niamh29 · 11/03/2011 21:48

I'm with you Lozario, my sickness never went away 100% but has been bad again since about 32-34 weeks. I have to be very careful in the mornings cause my tummy is very sensitive and I can be sick very easily. It's still not as bad as my last pregnancy, I'm just generally puky when I'm pregnant.

Having really weird nerve pain all day, at the moment it's in my top right thigh, very uncomfortable!

I'm not sure if I want her to come now or to have a few days rest. I am really fed up of not being able to get out of bed in the morning or even off the sofa in the evening but I'm pretty exhausted and I still don't have any cat nets for the cotbed and crib so I have to go out this weekend and get them. I'm thinking Tuesday might be nice, maybe late afternoon Grin That should suit everyone. After finishing work this evening my OH and I have decided to celebrate - we're off out the the cinema to catch a late showing, choose a late one so I could sleep a little first and enjoy the film. We should make the most of being a couple before LO arrives. :)

Wow lots of arrivals! Congratulations ladies! To the ladies who are overdue, you have my sympathy, my DD1 was a week late and it drove me nuts!

I've been in a very weird mood for the last few days, from very neurotic to almost psychotic!! Grin Have settled down today though. My due date is in 5 days but no signs yet, mind you I didn't have any signs with DD1 before my waters broke...

Catherine, cinema sounds like a great idea, I haven't been for nearly 3 years now, didn't get round to it before DD1 arrived!!! Shock I can't believe you have only just stopped working!

Good luck everyone!
