I'll pass it on. He said he didn't want me going into labour tonight anyway cos he's too tired!

BEKsmum · 27/10/2005 23:10

Evening girls, Just a quick note to tell you that we are now the proud parents of a new baby boy called Thomas Samuel

He was born at 11:14pm on Wednesday night and we came out of hospital late this evening. I'm afraid I haven't had time to catch up on any of your posts yet so hope you are all well, will fill you all in on the gory details properly tomorrow.

Beks

goldenoldie · 27/10/2005 23:21

JenJam - would love another lunch, but I can only do Monday. I'm being admitted to hospital on Tuesday for close monitoring and they will keep me in till my booked c-section on 10 Nov.

So if you are free on Monday?

goldenoldie · 27/10/2005 23:22

Beks - just seen your post. Congratulations!

KristinaM · 28/10/2005 00:36

Oh beksmum - thats wonderful!!! Many many congratulations to you and your DH/P. I guess it all went smoothly if you are home so soon ? We had wondered where you were.....

And BTW Thomas is just the best name in the world ( can you guess that we have one too?)

Busyalexsmummy · 28/10/2005 06:32

Beks-I thought you'd popped!congratulations!!!

karmamother · 28/10/2005 06:57

Big congratulations to you Beksmum.

Hope you & Thomas are very well. Ooh, this is all getting very exciting now there are three graduates. Nova & Rodeo might start a new postnatal group for you all.

Well, awake at 5am again, I think my body is gearing up for sleepless nights already. Its not a physical thing that stops me getting back to sleep, although madam likes to show off her nifty moves at that time! I just lie awake thinking of alsorts...the birth, the feeding, the upheaval. I was even worrying about the piles of washed babygros waiting to be dried! We don't have a drier & the radiators are electric & crap, so after Nova's advice to Chacha last night I really don't want the added hassle of not having dried clothes. God, we women will worry about anything! Still, at least I don't have British Gas to worry about!!!

Got a question for everyone....has anyone got any strong feelings on Group B Strep testing? I've been following a few threads over the last few months & I was wondering if any of you plan to ask for the test? I know it's a relatively rare infection but once you know about something you do tend to worry about it, don't you?

tex111 · 28/10/2005 08:18

Beks, CONGRATS!! Wonderful news and what a lovely name. Hope you're well and getting some rest. Can't wait to hear what it's like with a new baby and a three year old. Take care of yourself!

babyonboard · 28/10/2005 08:23

yay congratulations beksmum and family..and welcome toour first baby boy Thomas!

come on ladies..more babies please!

If you arrange to go to wagamamas on monday I might come along..if the spd isn't too bad! It almost killed me walking to the high street to meet dp last night....

I agree on the expensive sheet issue..those are gorgeous, but maybe only for a 'show home' hehe.
so far we have a few fleecy blankets and sheets and I plan o get some pure cotton pillowcases, as my mum said those are great for cribs and prams too!
i'm also going to get sleeping bags in a couple of months..has anyone noticed how amusingly huge they are..we were looking at them in tk maxx and my friend held up a 36 months one and it was almost her size..teeheee

i'm off to the opticians today..I missed my appointment on wednesday ..i started making bread and blahing away on mumsnet and totally forgot about it ..hehehee

babyonboard · 28/10/2005 08:30

and Karma..I am the same at the moment..if I ewake up for the loo or something and catch sight of a pile of unsorted baby stuff or an unopened box I lie there itching to get up and do something, or start thinking about the birth and everything to do with the baby afterwards...

babyonboard · 28/10/2005 08:39

lmao..
i am trying to create a yahpoo i.d to post pics, but my name is taken...and it suggested as an alternative
'babyonproscenium' hehehehehe

Diege · 28/10/2005 08:41

Many, many congratulations Beks !!! We had started to think you must have started! Can't wait to hear all the details. You said you would go before me!Did you have a sweep after all?
Welcome Beartime , sounds like you are well on your way too!
Karma: yes, I have also been thinking about strep B testing, but it's a real push round here to get anyone to do anything about it. I know from a friend's experinece that there are private tests available, but my midwife says they raise a lot of false positives, and that there are signs you have it if your temp is raised in labour/feel feverish etc, and they would then put you on antibiotics. You would probably get a fuller picture from the strepB website, which has loads of useful info (not sure of address, but key words should get you there). After all my enquiries I probably won't do anything this time, though more down to my own laziness and reassurnaces from NHS, than from having made more definite enquiries(I do think NHS testing policies are often driven more by economics than balanced research)
BTW midwife says head is now engaged, and that women usually follow same gestation periods with subsequaent pregnancies, so it's 39 weeks (ish)again for me. I will stake everytthing I own on it being 39+2 for the third time (8th NOv!).
Diege, 37+5

babyonboard · 28/10/2005 08:53

I have put the scary knitting patterns on yahoo for anyone yet to see it..teehee

KristinaM · 28/10/2005 08:55

morning all!

welcome beartime.

re bedlinen - I am also of the cheap and cheerful brigade. But then I've had very sicky babies. i even get all the sheets in white, so they can be hot washed if necess. Then i do then again in non bio befroe using them. I also put a muslin down under the baby's head so if they spit I dont have to change the sheet. I do get coloured blankets though.....

I'm very fussy about using products though, as we have a family history of eczema etc. I only used water on bums for months, then went onto non perfumed baby wipes. I dont use soap or bubble bath even now for Ds ( 17 months) and only a spot of shampoo on his hair about every third bath. Never use baby lotion. Only a little talc in his liittle creases if necessary.A little nappy cream if his bum is slightly red. thats all. But I'm probably paranoid.....

Off to see Gp now.she isnt particularly on the ball but i suspect she might spot that baby is still teh wrong way round....sigh.....

babyonboard · 28/10/2005 09:10

sorry I forgot ..welcome beartime...does sound dlike thinmgs are starting for you!
and diege..not long for you either if your predictions are right!

Kristina..I was worried about using products too, as my skin is quite fussy. i can only use surcare washing powder, and limited skincare .
Has anyone seen the huggies wipes that claim to be as mild as cotton wool and water? I'm sure like rodeo said, the constant bloiling and cooling water can't be fun!

i'm getting fed up with these on and off pains..it's been happening all morning again...why won't they just stop or actualy become proper labour! grr..
also I strangely noticed my bump looks way smaller today! any ideas why!?

karmamother · 28/10/2005 09:22

BoB, smaller tummy might mean head is descending further into your pelvis!! Yay!!!

karmamother · 28/10/2005 09:26

BoB, forgot to say, those picture of the knitting patterns are way too freaky for words. The lower right picture of the boy with a red mask on...have you noticed his left eyebrow? It looks like he has just seen a reflection of himself in a mirror & is about to cry! Actually, it looks a bit like a gimp's mask, or is that just my warped mind???

babyonboard · 28/10/2005 09:26

hooray..
my mum is convinced it will be soon..on wednesday she panicked when i wasn't home or answering my mobile...hehehehehe

babyonboard · 28/10/2005 09:31

yes!they look a lot like gimp masks..or the scary band kiss..neither of which you'd want your child to be associated with!

you'll all think I'm crazy, but we have run out of milk and I don't want to go out and miss the postman so i just put a huge lump of vanilla icecream in my coffee...and it's so so good!

Diege · 28/10/2005 09:36

OMG!! I've just seen those knitted gimp masks and I feel sick! How could anyone actually find them appealing? Something Michael Jackson might put his kids in perhaps!
Diegex

babyonboard · 28/10/2005 09:37

actually..it wasn't kiss i was thinking it's.. slipknot
scary!

karmamother · 28/10/2005 09:38

wonder if chocolate ice cream would make it taste like a mocha coffee?? See? I'm still hallucinating about forbidden foods.....

JenJam · 28/10/2005 09:38

[GRIN] CONGRATULATIONS BeksandThomasmum!

that IS a fine name, if some close friends hadn't called their baby Thomas and if I my ex-boyfriend wasn't named Sam I would have chosen those names for our little boy too!

....looking forward to hearing the birth story and seeing a piccie

Golden and anyone else interested....I could do Monday lunchtime at wagas, or anywhere else, we could have lunch or we could go somewhere else for tea/coffee and cake. It's your choice Golden as you're going into hosp for quite a while! are you feeling well?

i might go to the day assessment unit today as i've got some light dribbling. Since yesterday i've been quite damp, and i don't think it's pee or the knitting patterns anymore. It doesn't have a strong urine smell.

my mum is coming over today to help me with my full transformation into a mother hen. hope labour starts while she is here - Less embarrassing for me if i do end up crying for my mum because of the pain!

let me know about monday...i'll log on again either later today or tomorrow.

Jen

sarahsausage · 28/10/2005 09:38

congratulations Beks!!!

Been having niggly pains for the last hour and a half, not regular or painful. This baby isnt coming out for at least another 3 weeks so these pains can just stop right now!!! Having lower back pain too, this is how i started with dd. Hope it just goes away as i haven't even got a hospital bag yetlet alone packed one. Have still only got a pram! On the bright side if baby does come early at least i can take him/her for a walk
