JenJam - great, lets do lunch again on Weds. Anyone else?

JenJam - I've still got your mobile number - do you have mine? I will give you a ring Monday morning to make sure you and I are still around/on for lunch - just in case!

Karma - StrepB - I was told that with a c-section chance of passing infection on to baby is much, much lower, so no point in me having test.

I'm not feeling at all well, my GD seems to be crashing a lot of the time. I had a 1.3 on Wednesday, and some days I can't get it above 3 - no matter what I eat.

Almost looking forward to going into hospital now - at least I will get a rest before the twins arrive. Just hope they don't put me on a drip as soon as I arrive.

Londoner · 28/10/2005 13:00

Hi all!

Congratulations to BEKS on the safe arrival of your son Thomas, how lovely!

Just to let you all know, I've had a show & am in the early stages of labour ..... by my calculations/going on previous labours, I should have a baby by @10pm tonight... fingers crossed! We'll see... hope so, took me all morning to organise children off to friends houses with pyjamas packed.... that's what they all wanted to do in the end... will call them when the baby arrives, so half of Greenwich is fully expectant of me, ug, no pressure or anything!

Will post when I can... hope you're all well and will catch up soon....

babyonboard · 28/10/2005 13:14

Ooooh Londoner! how exciting..
Sure you'll be too busy to check back on here before the event but good luck!
you were due in 8 daus time right?

pogface · 28/10/2005 13:38

Hello all
I'm new here, just wanted to give a big old wave to any other nearly-there mums...I am supposed to give birth on halloween, but I reckon bonfire night's a safer bet. finding this whole thing pretty surreal - its my first - and having real trouble sleeping/walking/existing anywhere except the sofa. well, thats all, hi everyone!

babyonboard · 28/10/2005 13:49

I have good and bad news....
I went to the opticians and through pure luck they had my contact lenses in stock - I also ordered a free pair of aqua tinted ones for setting up a new direct debit scheme - yay!
Then I made the mistake of wearing pretty short shorts for pilates, and realised my inner thighs are covered in stretchmarks..argh! I thought i'd escaped them! heheeh....ah well..it's not so bad is it...
Nice pics jenjam!..and i agree...mmm tiger beer...

rodeo1 · 28/10/2005 14:08

BRILLIANT NEWS! CONGRATULATIONS BEKS! AND WELCOME TO OUR FIRST BABY BOY THOMAS!! YIPPEE!!!

Can't wait to hear all the details!

Welcome to pogface and beartime too

rodeo1 · 28/10/2005 14:21

Wow! Just seen your post Londoner! Keeping fingers crossed for you! Hurrah to new babies! Keep them coming ladies!

BTW I only use water on cotton wool pads for bottom changes and a smear of vaseline if its a bit pinky looking.

Got a different bottle today today to see if she'll feed a bit better for dp. Although got a NUK one not a MAM - got confused!! Hopefully will work just as well!

Golden - was thinking about you as I was hoovering yesterday. Just generally wondering about twins and my friend's just found out she's having twins. How are you planning to feed them? I thought maybe if it was me I'd bf one while bottle feeding the other and alternating, but wondered if that would be possible if they wanted feeding at diff times? Hmmm....really looking forward to your twins being born, double the excitement! I'll be fascinated!

beartime · 28/10/2005 14:30

Can you breast feed both at the same time? One on each side? That was what I was wondering? Or do you have to do them separately? And then what if they are hungrier and need more food? I guess you get to eat lots don't you!

rodeo1 · 28/10/2005 14:39

I have seen a woman feeding her twins at the same time but surely you'd need about 4 arms and 8 pillows?!

karmamother · 28/10/2005 15:06

Hi all & welcome to pogface...love the name!

Goldenoldie, I found out this morning from the diabetologist that at 36 weeks your insulin resistance plateaus which (I think) means the gd won't get any worse or require any additional treatment. God knows how that fits in with your hypos. Have you tried eating chocolate? Once the babies are born just think how much food you'll have to eat if you plan to bf! From one extreme to the other.

Well, the hospital appointment this morning was rather odd. Apart from sitting in a cramped clinic with various unruly kids running round, I had to wait an hour & a half past the appt. time so my BP was a tad high. God knows how you mums cope that have lots of hospital trips. Anyway, the consultant said it was years since he had a GD lady on his books. Therefore, not terribly aware of what the hospital protocols were.
He phoned the diabetic guy who said he didn't need to see me, which was good. I asked about induction before term & he couldn't think of a reason to so thats me till the bitter end, then. I may end up delivering in December at this rate. DS is 9 on the 28th of Nov & I was hoping bubs would come along before then. He's not keen on sharing his birthday!! Looks like I shall have to do the sex/curry/pineapple/nipple tweaking thing & I'm wondering if you could do them all simultaneously. What a mental image!!!

pogface · 28/10/2005 15:50

thank you! BabyonBoArd, i sympathise with the unexpected stretchmarks discovery - i was so smug coz i thought, my mum didnt get em, why should I? hmmm, cue purple marks on boobs, belly AND thighs, and my partner agreeing rather TOO quickly with my statement that pregnancy is surely one of the most ravaging processes my body is going to go thru...hmm...have been smearing on wheatgerm and lavender oil, but i'm not hopeful...

babyonboard · 28/10/2005 16:14

lol pogface..i was smug as my mum had loads and i didn't get any....not so smug now!hehehe
i was using bio-oil..don't have any on my stomach which is where i guess i concentrated on..i didn't think i'd gained much weight elsewhere, but guess it's hard to tell!
lol at your dp too..mine is just as bad..and i'm sure he expects everyting back as usual as soon as the baby is born..he's in for a shock!

goldenoldie · 28/10/2005 16:24

JenJam - sorry I mean lunch on Monday?

Londoner - good luck, hope you deliver soon.

Karma - thanks for the info. Think my hypos are down to eating small amounts. When I eat bigger meals it all comes back up. Had a nasty incident with a pie recently.................

Rodeo/Beartime - will do mixed feeding from the off. Have a dual electric milking machine and lots of ready-made formula that I can just pour straight into bottle from the carton.

With the BF I will try and do both at the same time - but that depends on them both being good at latching-on/feeding.

novadandypowder · 28/10/2005 16:31

congratulations to Beks 'and now Thomas' ' mum . I look forward to hearing all the details soon.

We're popping out all over the place!

Lunch on monday? I'm a bit scared at the prospect so might wait until we can all meet up with babies in tow! Natalie has not slept at all today, and we're running out of ideas about what could be wrong. Fingers crossed it will mean she'll sleep tonight.

beartime · 28/10/2005 16:35

wow so you ARE going to need lots of pillows!

novadandypowder · 28/10/2005 16:36

BoB - I have pinged back and then some. Apart from a slightly rounded belly I'm actually thinner now than pre-pregnancy. It's amazing how much water retention I had. Will hopefully be able to get some new clothes with my birthday coming up

KristinaM · 28/10/2005 16:46

golden - really admire you for even thinking about trying to Bf twins. i found it so difficult in the early days with one baby, let alone two. I think thats why I kept going for so long IYSWIM. Like you I've read that one of the strategies for coping with twins is to feed both at once, by whatever method.

Londonder - if you are having a home birth there is NO GOOD REASON for you not to be online here keeping us updated . We only accept the " I'm in labour" excuse from those who are actually in hospital....

Had a scan this monring and surprise surprise, the baby is now breech.Which I suppose is better than transverse as its not such a worry if I do go into labout early. We are only about 30 mins from hospital. They are going to try to turn the baby next Thursday ( when I will be 37+2) . Any advice / experience? I knwo you said you woulndt have an ECV twinkle - is it Ok to ask why? All comments gratefully received

If ECV doesnt work, or baby turns back, I will be going for a CS...sigh...

ChaCha · 28/10/2005 16:56

Congratulations to Beksmum!!! WoW! But doesn't look like Enthusia is next on the list as i'd predicted..
..Londoner, so very excited for you and can't wait to hear some more good news! WoW, me has strange feelings that am going to be quite alone on November thread - gulp! Nothing worse than moaning to myself, can do that in RL, LOL!

Looks like my mum will be going home soon as she is going to travel back with DP to return on her own nearer the time. I am absolutely shi**ing myself about having this baby and spent most of last night in tears, really not like me at all. My friend who has a 3week old phoned me today and is really feeling alone, her DH is at work all day at Uni during some evenings and her mum and MIL are both busy. She has only gone out once to surgery since birth and was feeling inadequate just feeding all day and feels guilty as she can't cook/clean etc.. Really didn't have any advice to give other than sod the cooking/cleaning carry on and just enjoy being with baby and to try taking it out more. What would you say?

Golden - Thinking of you and hope everything goes well.

Karma - You and your mental images, LOL!!!

Right, see you all later, will be checking for more announcements.....whooppeee!

aw kristina..theres still time for the tot to get in place though!
nova...i'm impressed! it's so soon aswell!i'm not surprised really..sounds like you were pretty well toned before..i was quite skinny, but didn't exercise much so god knows what will happen to me..hehehe
hopefully you will get a few hours sleep tonight..
my aunt was very lucky, her first ds slept 7 hours a night from 3 weeeks..it built up her expectations though as their dd didn't settle until 5 months and she found it really hard...

babyonboard · 28/10/2005 16:59

and i agree..i keep checking for updates from londoner, but i'm sure mumsnet is the last thing on her mind...hehehehe...hope it's all going well!

ChaCha · 28/10/2005 17:07

Kristina - My friend had that ECV procedure done at I think about 37weeks and was successful. She ended up with a C-sec for complications though.

KristinaM · 28/10/2005 17:20

thnaks chacha - thats encouraging ! sorry to hear your friend is so down.Bf a 3 week old is really demanding - no wonder she cant get anything done in the house. Honestly, you can barely get 10 mins to have a shower or eat, let alone do housework. Please tell her that in lots of cultures she wouldn't be allowed to do any housework with a 3 week old! What a shame her Dp isn't more supportive........

babyonboard · 28/10/2005 17:27

chacha..i agree about it being normal, i remember my friend calling me one afternoon absolutely delighted that she had had a bath and made herself lunch that day! (her dd was around 3 weeks) there isn't muc hore you can do/say to support her..it's all a learning curve!
