Diege · 31/10/2005 17:09

Thanks Rodeo! I'll start taking them at the end of this week- two/three a day, or more? (sorry, totally clueless!)Yes, I have 2 dds, ages 4 and nearly 3; don't know what this one is, as we wanted a surprise as definitely my last! Going on old wives tales (ie. lowish heart rate), it's a boy though. Is this one you last, or do you fancy 4? (difficult question to even contemplate 3 weeks in I'm sure!)
Diege.

omg Im shattered!

twinkle1 · 31/10/2005 18:30

I have to tell you all this it made me really laugh
Where we live the area really makes an effort for halloween,so i answer the door for the 20th time tonight, there stands dad, two kids dressed up and dad is holding baby sister (12 weeks) in knitted red devil suit with little crotcheted horns apparantly granny is very versatile!!!!!! It really made me laugh

novadandypowder · 31/10/2005 19:06

sounds sooo sweet twinkle. DH got the pumpkin out this afternoon ready to carve and found that it had started to rot in the cupboard! Very stinky. We've put a note on the door asking people not to knock due to the baby, and very trustingly put all the choc in a bowl by the front door. So far the kids seem to be quite disciplined...

Rodeo - nat was 6lbs 15 on friday, thats an increase of 2oz on her birth weight, but I'm guessing she's put on more since as she's eating all the time!!!

Diege - i took arnica (when i could remember) after the birth and was back to normal (if I can ever be again) within about 5 days. The instructions for taking should be on the pot?

KristinaM · 31/10/2005 19:24

I know someone posted about this ages ago - avent bottles - if you bought them in a pack complete with teats, check that the teats are newborn size. If you are using them to give EBM you want the smallest size possible. Also dont think they will fit on the breast pump but you shoudl get some bottles with the pump and you can just decant into your own bottle in the fridge. Unless you are a dairy cow and are expressing 4oz at a time from early on.....

Tex - all the best for tomorrow - will be thinking of you. Remember to get Dh to post with the news

Rodeo - very encouraed to hear that you were off painkillers a week after your section. I am such a wimp I am terrified at the possibility of having to have one in a few weeks

Chacha - well done you are very brave

tessasmum · 31/10/2005 19:33

Rodeo - what a lovely little girl and thanks for sharing it with us.

ChaCha - hope it all turns out to be nothing much but better to get it checked out. Well done on the blood tests as well. See, all these spin-offs that pregnancy brings.

Busy - hope your DP looks after you tonight. Having spent most of my working life with special needs kids (and adults) I know how drained you must be. Must admit I don't think I would have made such a generous offer at the moment.
You need a big dinner cooked for you followed by an enormous bar of chocolate in my opinion

Beartime - after all thoughts of answering the door to Trick or Treaters whilst in the throes of labour its been really quiet here. No signs of labour and very few kids. Anyone coming now (and waking up Tessa) is going to get short shrift anyway. Hope ypou didn't have to scare many people away!

tessasmum · 31/10/2005 19:35

Meant to add - have a good day tomorrow Tex. Another one for the post-natal thread

Enthusia · 31/10/2005 19:45

ChaCha

Somehow missed your message and was wondering why everyone was congratulating you!

WELL DONE on giving up sooooo much blood!!!!! Hope the hospital trip went well and that you and bubs are ok!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and good luck for tmrw Tex

Busyalexsmummy · 31/10/2005 20:08

thankfully, he was quite well behaved(he always is with me!) but I think his parents make it worse by allowing him sweets with lots of E numbers in. very hard trying to entertain him though! couldnt really say no to having him as dps aunt has alex as and when we need her to(for free) so wouldve looked a bit nasty if Id had said no! Have also got him tommorrow and possibly wednesday.

Got m/w tommorrow, will ask if she will do internal(as am now technically term at 37 wks), but judging by what cons said last friday, i doubt she'll agree.

Ps 9oz and 4oz bottles fit the Avent breastpump, so they should be compatible

BAm - I had a big conversation with hospital MW last week to see if they would do a sweep at 38 or 39 weeks (this is if they can get baby turned). as you say, that woudl be term and my concern is that baby might turn back again, also that baby is big and I dont want to go over dates like last time. She said the consultant was REALLY AGAINST doing anything until after your EDD . You had to have a "medical reason" and having a breech baby turned and a big baby and a history of going post dates was not good enough.

She said the only way they would do an internal and sweep at 38 or 39 weeks is if you came in thinking you were in labour and having regular contractions, then they woudl have to examine you.

So make of that what you will......

Didnt you say that you felt some contractions tonight?? Or maybe it was just BHs?????

beartime · 31/10/2005 20:37

Tessasmum - same here, no labour (despite going to an Indian for a lunch together) and only three lots of doorknockers. All that worry for nothing...

I can't believe you guys ASKING for internals - I almost want to ask NOT to have one!

Can anyone tell me what the plan is after birth with midwives, health visitors etc. How many come, and who, and how often and for how long? Sorry, just wondering what it's going to be like afterwards! Also, how soon can you usually go out e.g to town, or visiting, afterwards if no complications during labour?

And where do you go to see pics of new babies on here?

karmamother · 31/10/2005 21:14

Evening all.

Having a bit of a giggle watching Corrie. Cilla & Les's wedding was hilarious!! Now Status Quo are on!

Re: doorknockers, we have a huge tin of Celebrations for the kids & I pleaded with dp to save the malteser ones (my faves) for me. Well, its only a month now before I can pig out on chocolate.
Good luck Tex for tommorow!
Kristina, might use your advice when I get close to term, sounds excellant!
BAM, useful to know about the Avent teats & bottles.
Rodeo, what a lovely letter. It brought a tear to my eye. Bella sounds so sweet.

Well, tommorrow dp & I are going to get the cot. Compared with the rest of you it seems like we're leaving it a bit late. TBH, we're still trying to find homes for my stuff so we've only just created some space in our bedroom for the cot. There won't be a nursery for a while as the other bedroom is used by the other kids. This doesn't bother us too much as we've both "been there before"!!

I'm well & truly on the rlt now. They seemed to make my BHs a bit stronger at first but I'm settling into it now. I really hope they make a difference. This is all part of my master plan to birth the way I want to. Now that I've read up on the benefits of a natural 3rd stage, I'm hoping I can have a drug free 1st stage too. Ironically, once you start planning things, events often turn out differently.

Catch you all tommorrow.

Nice to catch up on everyone's news. You all seem happy and in good spirits

Hospital check was great - m/w and doctor were very friendly and patient. Although urine and BP tested this morning they were repeated again and all well. Had a scan ad was put on monitor, baby is head down 4/5 engaged, lying to my left side and painful ribs wd seem to be a result of some hefty footwork. They outruled pre-eclampsia but have to see a consultant at 38weeks as well as another scan. Doctor mentioned possibility of gallstones to the shock of m/w and DH! We really think not. Bloods that were taken this morning came back fine too - and have been told to just go visit delivery suite if pains get worse or I've any concerns. Am v.happy with our hospital.
Thank you all for your congrats!!!

BoB hasn't posted today has she? Hoping she is well. PinkMinx hasn't been online since she left work - is there anyone else?

Golden - I think you are going in tomorrow for observation but can't remember, if you are just wanted to wish you all the best and hope that everything goes well for you. Likewise to Tex.

Love to all x

kristina-ahhhh, thats a useful bit of info, might have to use that then

beartime-You will be seen by your community midwife after the birth, she will oversee you and the baby for 28 days, you then become the responsibility of your health visitor.
my midwife came on the wednesday after I had him-so the day after I came out of hospital, IIRC she came twice, and the health visitor came once-its usually up to you in a respect ie.if you want them to see you more often/you have any concerns, you need to let them know, otherwise they are usually happy to let you get on with it apart from doing things that are standered procedure-ie administering vit K to baby/doing your Edinburgh score(for pnd).

As for going out etc-its really upto you, personally I cant stand the sight of 4 walls for too long, so after having ds, I went into town on the wednesday(walking like id lost my horse) but some peopleprefer to stay at home for a week or two- I think it really depends on how you feel, which you wont know till after labour. My best advice is-dont take crp from people who say"ooooh you shouldnt be up and about this quick, youve just had a baby, you should be resting"-I got that alot, but dont feel bad/inadequete(sp?) if you dont feel up to going out...and lastly-when you go out, make* sure youve eaten+ take a drink.

Laylasmum · 01/11/2005 16:53

Hi all thought i'd pop back on and let you all know how things went!!
labour started about 9pm saturday wih twinges but managed to go to sleep and sleep till about 4 am pains then woke me but i still thought it was just wind!!
DH rang midwife who came out to the house around 7;3o i was then around 5 cms dilated and not in too much pain.
Things progressed well and 2nd midwife came around 11:00 started using gas and air around 11:30. Managed to get through 2 cylinders of gas and air and there was none left for the actual delivery so that really was au naturel!
waters broke at 12:55 and started pushing straight away baby Seth was born at 1:07 pm in a bit of a hurry, tore but didn't need stitching thank god!!
He's really beautiful, feeding well, big sister is smothering him with affection , all in all we are pretty chuffed with our selves!!

Will try and post some pics at some point - will get DH to do it

JennyWren · 02/11/2005 21:22

Hi!
Sorry to gatecrash... I'm trying to get hold of babyonboard and I know she posts on here - does anyone know if she is around at the moment? I know she's due this month, so she may have more urgent things on her mind than e-mailing me .
Thanks,
JennyWren

peepee · 05/11/2005 17:21

Not sure if anyone will remember me but for those of you who do, I am still out there and trying.

Hi everyone - A quick e-mail to say that Kirstie gave birth to our son today at 6.50pm. Sam, 8lb's and 2oz's appears to be the perfect child... sleeps, breast feeds straight away and doesn't pooh! More to follow tomorrow when the boss gets back (Kirstie) from hospital. Hope you are all well - advice for men... take energy drinks with you, sleep as and when you can (labour goes on forever) and everything is your fault - except it!
