I got to listen to my babies' heartbeats last night - my husband bought me a doppler to use at home!! I've never heard them (only seen them) so it was amazing! Keep putting in on to have another listen Grin 15 weeks today!

Happy (belated) Birthday Hersetta!

KLou111 · 01/03/2011 11:20

Which one have you got MrsS as I'm looking at getting one.
Yay on your scan CapC at long last!!!!

Hersetta · 01/03/2011 13:51

Thanks all for the birthday wishes. Had a lovely day and DD and DH were very sweet. DD kept getting DH to phone me at work so she could say 'happy birthday Mummy' to me.

Well done on the scan cappacino...at last!!

KLou - talking of dopplers I actually hired one for 2 months yesterday. It was 9.99 a month from an ebay shop. It's from a company called hi-baby and if you book through ebay delivery is free (it was £5 on their own web site).

Been feeling the baby squirm and move around and kick in the last day which is nice and reasuring.

MrsStevo · 01/03/2011 14:39

klou - the one I've got is Angel Sounds. I (obviously) haven't checked out how much it cost as it was a present, but my instincts tell me that it is around £28ish on amazon Grin It is super cool - you get a set of headphones with it but you can plug in 2 sets for extra listeners. You can also plug it into a computer and record the heartbeat - you get a couple of CDs to do that. Best present I've ever had - such a re-assurance at dark times in between scans!

littlemissw · 01/03/2011 16:27

Happy belated birthday Hersetta!

Lol @ the Hotmilk video - too funny! If anyone is looking for maternity/nursing bra's, I can highly recommend these They are so incredibly comfortable & they also stock Hot Milk bra's for those os you looking for a bit of glamour. :)

So brilliant hearing that a lot of us are starting to feel our babies. I've been feeling mine on & off from really early on (8 weeks) which has been very reassuring. I felt my other DC also quite early on (16w & 11 w). The little flutters are definitely starting to turn into proper little kicks now. I love it and its the thing I miss most when I'm not pregnant!

Great news about your scan CupC. My girls keep coming up to me asking to kiss the bump, telling me about things they think we'll need for the baby and coming up with some VERY strange suggestions for names - so sweet. :)

Klou, I have an Angel sounds too. If I'm not mistaken, I'm sure SelenaDoula recommended it too. I was really lucky & got mine for only £19 a few weeks back - looks like the price has gone up. :( It might be worth shopping around. It is a great doppler & I managed to pick up the heartbeat at just over 10 weeks. I bought it mainly so that the kids could join in too & I must say, they absolutely love listening to the baby, especially when its jumping around a lot! lol

I won't get my 20 week scan until well into April when I'll be just over 22 weeks and as I am also still awaiting my blood test results to find out if I'm immune to slapped cheek, we've decided to have a private gender scan. It is booked for the weekend & I simply cannot wait to see baby again, make sure all is ok & find out what we are having. We had a lovely surprise with our first two & I loved DH telling me 'It's a girl' instead of a stranger I've never met, but we've felt it would be better all round to find out this time. FX baby plays along & don't keep its legs crossed! :) Anyone else tempted to find out earlier?

littlemissw · 01/03/2011 16:30

sorry for the long post!

MrsChemist · 01/03/2011 17:00

Great news on your scan CappC Smile

Today I signed up for some medical research. It's non-invasive and if it helps, then I don't mind.

The researcher said they are always looking for placentas, so when I give birth, I'll be letting the MW know I'm ok with them using it for research. They don't do cord banking at the hospital, so it's the next best thing. It'll just be thrown away otherwise.

CappuccinoCarrie · 01/03/2011 18:42

MrsS you have to promise not to laugh at my woeful lack of stomach muscles this weekend, while I look on with Envy at your slim physique! Not that anyone will be that slim after the eat-all-you-can chinese Grin
Its been great being publically preggers today, I love it! Told some more people this morning, just passed them the scan photo and let the penny drop! DS saw a trucks blanket in a shop today, I said he didn't need it and he suggested we get it for the baby, I nearly cried...again!
That sounds great MrsC, I wonder if my hospital can make use of the placenta too? Seems a shame for it to go to waste!
Its my birthday tomorrow Grin, I've had two cakes already and we're going to a hotel for a full english breakfast in the morning, then out to a posh restaurant in the evening, and to the seaside for fish n chips on Thursday, hooray!

RugbyWidow7 · 01/03/2011 18:50

Hi everyone, great to hear that all's settled down for you Klou and that everyone is starting to feel their baby move - I'm still concentrating very hard to notice it!

On the bra front (love the advert btw Bettyboo), I have been wondering why I can no longer even do up some of my sports bras at the back any more. I thought I must have gained a load of back-fat, however last night someone told me that your ribs widen during pregnancy, which explains everything! So I need to go up a size in the back and they won't be painful anymore!

I did buy a really lovely Hot Milk bra with an extending back from this really good value site, if you're in the market. Also bought something called a 'superbra' from Fertilemind today, which is supposed to be v comfortable and expand with you to last all the way through. Haven't tried it yet, so I'll report back.

Firawla · 01/03/2011 19:18

Happy bday for tomorrow carrie, hope you have a good day
Littlemissw i felt tempted to get another scan to find out earlier but as it's not really that long to wait just gonna go with the normal one, although if we cant find out that day i would probs book a private one cos i really want to know.

KLou111 · 01/03/2011 20:52

Thanks for the advice re dopplers MrsS and littlemissw. Was looking at getting one with the LCD screen and a loud speaker option, think they were about £45, so will look at the angel one.

Happy birthday for tomorrow carrie

SelinaDoula · 02/03/2011 10:37

Sounds like you are all doing well!
I have a scan in 2 weeks time at 21+1. Both my DD and DP want to find out the sex, but I don't!
I am still feeling odd movements but they don't seem as frequent as a few weeks aho for some reason, sure it will pick up again soon.
I have just been offered a place on an MA in creative writing. It is part time over two years but there is a residetial in early Sept (when baby will be about 2 months) but they said I could take baby with me! Not sure if I am being over ambitous lol (writing a masterpeice at 2am whilst breastfeeding?) but will give it a go!

LifeOfKate · 02/03/2011 11:04

Hi all,

Lovely to read about the latest scans and happy birthday to those who have had birthdays!

My 20 week scan is 3 weeks today, it happens to be when I'm exactly 20 weeks, so that's quite funny! I've got midwife on monday, so what with a weeks holiday in between, it feels like I've got a busy few weeks coming up!

KLou111 · 02/03/2011 11:31

Happy birthday Carrie St Davids

KTisPG · 02/03/2011 11:35

I have a mw appointment today (I'm 15+3) so I'm hoping to hear the heartbeat for the first time. 5 weeks until my next scan, sigh.

Hi Ladies,

good to hear good news about heartbeats and scans... I've got my 20 week one tomorrow at 19+5 so keeping my fingers crossed all ok.

on the movement, definitely been feeling more of something - had the odd couple of occasions where it's definitely felt like a soft kick but quite random.

Does anyone else's bump get harder at some times and not at others ? Quite often in the evening my tummy will be quite firm to the touch.. am assuming it's normal !

Selina how funny - I'm thinking of applying for a psychotherapy diploma course that has a similar start in Sep (although not residential) and then one day a week during term time and wondering if I'm a bit mad !! I work for myself and can definitely fit it around paid work but not sure about how realistic it will be with a new baby too !! (cue advice from those of you already with kids about how mad the idea is !!)

littlemissw · 02/03/2011 14:40

Happy birthday Carrie St Davids

RunDMC - sounds like you are starting to get Braxton Hicks (practice contractions). They can get really strong towards the end of your pregnancy and they are completely normal. Good luck with your scan tomorrow!

CappuccinoCarrie · 02/03/2011 15:01

Thanks for the birthday wishes! I'm having a lovely day and being spoilt rotten!

RunDMC · 02/03/2011 15:09

thanks littlemissw I did wonder if that's what it was..

oh and Happy Birthday Carrie a virtual Wine to you and glad you're having a lovely day..

KLou111 · 02/03/2011 17:19

Went in for my triple blood test today and forgot my notes so got to go back tomorrow doh!!
While I was there, I got them to check the baby's heartbeat as due to my little bleed I've been on edge. All fine thought Grin still pumping away like a goodun!

KLou111 · 02/03/2011 18:55

Just bought an Angel Sounds doppler :)

RugbyWidow7 · 02/03/2011 19:18

Happy birthday Carrie! Wine Cheers! Have a great day.

Yukana · 02/03/2011 19:27

Popping in again. :)

On the subject of dopplers, does anyone recommend a particular one? My anxiety regarding the baby is driving me nuts, so I think hearing the heartbeat would help ease my worry a little. Although seeing things on television about miscarriage and stillbirth really didn't help, cue crying session shortly after.

I'm looking forward to my 20 week scan, but also nervous. I just want my baby to be okay. :(

MrsStevo · 02/03/2011 19:35

yukana - I recommend the Angel Sounds doppler, I got mine this week and it is awwwwwesome! It has alleviated my worries no end... although it is hard to try and pick out 2 different heartbeats, 1 is easy! I know what you mean about stuff on TV, I thought OBEM was particularly depressing this week and it had me and DH blubbing. I'm sure everything will be fine for you but have my fingers permanently crossed for everyone on here.
