MrsStevo
I was a doula for twins last year. She had had two previous normal births, and we negotiated to use the pool for pain relief and have the twins with midwife care only in the MLU (no paeds or cnsultant in the room unless indicated) and for midwife care if second twin was breech (first was head down)
More info here-

And-

I can send you her birth plan if you are interested.
She also exclusivly BF them for 6 months, and I'm sure would be happy to chat about managing if it helps.
And info here too at-

mrs stevo, to give you some twin inspiration, one of the lovely ladies on the grads thread has just birthed twins using only G&A in minutes, although it was her second labour. Shes also BF - although not sure how its managed!!

FeralGirlCambs · 25/03/2011 08:23

KLou what you said about getting wider is interesting - I am getting a little bit of a bump now at last (21 + 3), but not much - all my clothes fit as normal. But I had quite a waist to start with, and now not much. So the front view has changed more than the profile. Do you think babies use that 'space' before popping out frontwards?!

Preg brain moment: Made a delicious sounding orange and almond cake last night, but it involved melted butter, which I stashed in the bottom of the aga to keep warm then forgot to put in. Discovered 200g of liquid butter some time later. Strange thing is, cake is pretty good without it, and must be LOADS healthier, so I can eat three times as much?!

Sorry to hear about everyone's aches and pains. Hope we can all get out and enjoy the sun a bit - bought some new garden furniture the other day on the basis that I might be doing a lot of sitting around between now and Aug, so if we don't get a summer, twas me that jinxed it. Have a nice day everyone!

KLou111 · 25/03/2011 09:36

Must be somewhere Feral lol :) Bubba all normal sizing etc so probably using my hip space (apparently I have good child bearing hips!)
Cake sounds deeeeeeeelish BTW.

All I fancy at the moment is sweet stuff. Dinner and lunch I have to practically force down me as I so don't want any. Would rather have cake, sweets and chocolate!

Have a great day all and HAPPY FRIDAY :)
Off to the beach with DH and dog, another beautiful day :)

KTisPG · 25/03/2011 10:52

Names are sooo hard. I think we're sorted (for now anyway) if it's a girl, but I find boys names really difficult. I like traditional names, but want something that is hugely popular, ie I want him to be the only one in his class. The more popular ones I have are Matthew and Edward. The more unusual ones are Walter, Patrick, Francis (Frankie), Lawrence and Vincent. What do you think?

Mrs Stevo - WRT breastfeeding twins, I am sure it is possible, I have a nipple abnormality on one side which means I can't feed from one breast, so DS has fed exclusively from just one breast (and we're still going at 15 months), so I don't have any doubts that if I had 2 working breasts I would be able to feed twins if I had some! In fact, I think if I was pregnant with twins, I would still have a go at it on just the one breast and supplement as necessary...
The kellymom links that Selina put are brilliant, that is by far the best website I've found for honest, correct information. Sadly midwives/HVs aren't the best informed when it comes to breastfeeding, I have heard some shocking things uttered by both :( For one to one advice, a breastfeeding counsellor/peer supporter is a much better bet, so please ask for one if you are having difficulties.
Also there are a few experienced breastfeders on here, so feel free to ask us any questions :)

bellamysbride · 25/03/2011 12:17

Hi there everyone. Yonks since I have posted but I have been reading with interest. I am in the not feeling pregnant stage so haven't had much to add. Congrats to all those who have had scans. Ours is 2 weeks away which feels like an age.

KTisPG I just love your more unusual names, particularly Patrick (Paddy) and Vincent (Vince). We know a couple of Lawrences (grown ups) who are known as Larry and Lars. Great names.

jspark123 · 25/03/2011 16:35

Not posted for ages, but keeping up-to-date with current posts.
I had my scan yesterday and all was well, we found out that we are having a boy :). This poses a problem as we currently cannot decide on a boys name, we had one for a girl, but really struggling with boys names, we will probably go with a more traditional name.

The bump is getting bigger now and have bought another pair of maternity jeans, and a gorgeous floral dress for £10 from new look in the sale.

With regards to sleeping, I find myself waking up lots of times in the early morning, on my side mainly, and when I want to turn it feels like my pelvis is creaking away, probably from the loose ligaments making everything that bit more mobile.

Large meals are now difficult to digest and just sit above my bump for ages! so will have to start going to smaller meals with occasional snacks inbetween.
Hopefully the next half will go quicker than the first!

aStarWithHerOwnWays · 25/03/2011 16:53

MrsStevo a friend of mine has ID twin boys and successfully bf them for many months, despite them being 8 weeks premature and having dreadful reflux. I also recommend Kellymom for clear, accurate information :)

KTisPG I love Frankie, Lawrence and Vincent (we had this on our list for DS). More traditionally, how about Edmund? I much prefer it to Edward but sadly can never use it as it's my ex's name and that would be a bit too weird.

jspark hooray for a boy :) We had the same problem re. names with DS - it took us the whole rest of the pregnancy to come up with some we both liked Grin

Hopefully won't be a problem this time though as we had our scan today and we are having a girl :) Everything looks fine, apparently, and she was very active. Happy happy Grin

KLou111 · 25/03/2011 16:56

Congrats on your blue bundle Jspark and your pink astar :)

NHAN · 25/03/2011 18:07

Had my scan today and baby everything is ok.
We are having another boy :) wasn't bothered either way just happy everything ok. Now got the difficult job of names

Hope everyone elses goes well

KLou111 · 25/03/2011 18:21

Oh so glad everything OK nhan :) and congrats on your blue bump x

MrsVidic · 26/03/2011 12:16

Hello ladies,

Great to hear scans are going well ! I have got a few ideas on girls names. We like Emily, Dp likes daisy, Lilly and Ellie, what do you think?

bettyboo83 · 26/03/2011 14:52

Hi everyone, lovely to hear of everyones scans. Ours is on Tuesday and I'm really excited, whereas I was terrified at my 12-week one. Congratulations on your pink and blue bumps! I seem to be in the minority not finding out. DP is desperate to know so I'm hoping I don't cave at the scan!
I think I've felt some flutters now which is reassuring me, though I have to be very still and concentrate. Can't wait for real kicks though everyone tells me it'll drive me mad when the baby is kicking me hard and I'm trying to sleep!
Just been to a baby nearly-new sale with DP this morning and got a gorgeous playmat with arches and toys for £4! Bargain! There were loads of clothes so I'll have to look out for another one after the baby is here and I know the variety!
My Grandma has a crib at her house which has been used for all the babies in our family (including me!). She wants us to use it but won't let us have it in the house until the baby is born Hmm. So if I have a normal delivery and am discharged in 6 hours someone will have to race to my Grandma's to pick up the bloomin crib! Ah well, it's kind of her to let us use it.
Hope you all have a nice weekend xxx

NHAN · 26/03/2011 22:32

Thanks KLou :)
I'm getting sick of people asking if I wanted a girl already and we've only known 1 day. No i'm very happy with 2 boys thank you!

MrsVidic Daisy was our name if this one was a girl, although probably good job he isn't as that was my childhood dogs name. I love Lily and like Emily (although always makes me think of the irritating english girl in friends) My 3 year old chose Ellie when I asked him so this household is liking your choices lol.

Annie456 · 27/03/2011 10:24

Oh that would be annoying Nhan! I think we'll stick to team yellow to avoid peoples opinions like that. People really don't think-it's like they feel like they need to make some kind of comment and seem interested but they pick all the wrong responses!!

I totally sympathise with all you having name disagreements with your DP's...our new front runner for team pink is "Rose" which we both agree on but we can't decide on a middle name. DH thinks a middle name should be a family name and wants to name her after his grandmother (Josephene) but I am really really not keen!! Are you sticking to family middle names?

Yukana · 27/03/2011 10:54

Congrats on everyone's scans! Lovely to hear about all the pink and blue and yellow bumps. :)

Me and DP had an argument over World of Warcraft last night, ended up with me crying on his shoulder, sobbing and wailing in the living room which ended up going on my mother's shoulder, crying on his shoulder again when I went back to bed and then crying myself to sleep.

I feel horrible, I hate arguments.

LadyGoneGaga · 27/03/2011 12:18

We're doing family middle names, Annie. I think it's lovely to honour a special person. I figure that a person never really uses their middle name so no point in using up all the pretty names etc for something they will hardly ever use. But with a family middle name you can talk to them about the person and it connects them to them IYSWIM.

DS was named (first name) after my dad who died when I was pregnant with him and middle name his great-Grandfather. This one will have my Mum's name (Mary) as middle name if a girl or DP's Grandfather (Thomas) if a boy.

I think Josephine is a lovely name anyway by the way, has a certain elegance Smile

Hope you're ok, Yukana. Is he playing it too much? Games like that are so flipping addictive. But he's not going to be able to play so much when baby comes if he is to support you properly. Maybe he needs to get some help in cutting it back?

Hersetta · 27/03/2011 18:46

Well done all on all the good scan news.

My little one has been booting me go much that DH felt a huge kick for the first time on Friday night - 3 weeks before he felt a kick with DD so think that DS is going to be a kicker for sure!

As for names, we have nearly settled on Alex although I am still hankering after Greg - just not sure it sounds right when I say it aloud IYKWIM. Middle name I think will be Andrew after DH's best friend who died very suddenly of a undiognosed heart condition aged 34 when I was 13 weeks pregnant with DD. He died 2 days before we starting telling everyone I was expecting and it was DH's biggest regret and Andy never got to know he was going to be a Dad as we know he would have been chuffed to pieces. Bit of family pressure as DH's brother, father, grantfather, great grandfather are all called Patrick but we are doing our best not to give in. I like Patrick but don't much like Pat or Paddy so think it'll be rejected in the end.

Been out today buying a few summer clothes for DD as we're going to the Maldives in May - Can't come soon enough really!!

KLou111 · 27/03/2011 18:56

Annie we're going to have my late nan's first name (Jayne) as our middle name, and my Dad's, DH Dad's middle name (John) which was also both my Granddads first name.
Not told anyone the middle names yet though :)

Went out for a mediaeval banquet last night for my Dad's retirement/65th birthday. Was brilliant, and was great to dress up (put a couple of pics up). Ate loads!!

Think I have the beginnings of a bump, as this morning I had a belly. After thinking it was the food last night, it is still there now, which is very odd for me.

Mum listened to heartbeat earlier, and I was very proud of myself that I can always find it first time. Turns out I was listening to the placenta!!!! What a wally. She found the heart, totally different, and obviously kept moving, unlike what I was listening to, which is in the same place every time, felt a right idiot!! Blush (and she reckons I am having a girl cos of the heart rate, although it's just speculation. All predictors I have done online reckon girl too, so we'll prob be having a boy lol!!)

CappuccinoCarrie · 27/03/2011 19:35

AIBU to think my baby doesn't like me?! Seriously I've spawned a wrestler, other people can feel it from the outside and it keeps making me jump in shock! And my bump is huge Blush When we finally take a photo I'll post it up!
DD had a family middle name (my grandma who died a few weeks before I got married) but there are no other family names that are particularly special, so DS's middle name is a name I liked but DH didn't, and the same will prob happen for this one!
betty you'll stay up the whole of the first night due to the adrenalin rush, just marvelling at your baby and taking in every last detail of their perfectness so you won't need the crib til night 2 anyway Wink

nickstermum · 27/03/2011 19:35

Hersetta DH felt our baby kick on friday night too.... and it was proper belting me for about an hour :) It was ace, the men miss out so much...so is good for bonding :)

See.. everyone says fast hb for a girl... but i watched a pg recently where the MW bet diamonds that the baby was a boy due to hb of 130bpm... and it was a girl...! I thought i must be having a boy as its 155 ish but... you just never know i suppose :)

Lovely to see all the names. We have 2 leos (star sign) in our marriage, DS middle name is Leo so looking for something lionesque to go with it! Got Alex from madagascar...also gdads name was alex....but maybe for a middle !but other than that need inspiration. (Elsa i like for a gal... (born free!!) )

Liking emily daisy - they are on my list - distinctly lacking in inspiration for a boy!!

Firawla · 27/03/2011 20:36

the heart beat thing doesn't work i think, i guessed girl for mine from that but scan said boy
my dh not been able to feel movement yet, i told him to put his hand when i could feel it but he couldn't notice anything, probs due to layer of fat in the way i think!

KLou111 · 27/03/2011 20:58

I would love DH to be able to feel bubba, so he feels more involved. When my Mum was 'feeling' around me for baby, she could feel the baby moving from outside. I couldn't even feel it inside never mind outside!! But she knows what she is feeling for.
She said the heartbeat thing is just speculation, sometimes they are right, sometimes wrong, it's all guesswork :)

aStarWithHerOwnWays · 27/03/2011 21:00

nickstermum I love Elsa, it's my top pick for this one so far, which probably means DH will hate it Grin

DS is middle-named after my dear brother who died four years ago, but like CappuchinoCarrie there aren't any other family names that are particularly special (I don't think?) so we'll just see what happens.

Annie I also like Josephine, and Rose, but not together - too matchy in sound. Not sure what the solution to that one is though!

KLou pmsl at you listening to your placenta Grin That is the sort of thing I would do if I dared get myself a doppler.
