New thread for us August 11 ladies

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi all
sorry to hear about rude sonographers - Boo!

Rant time.
Why oh why oh why do clothes manufacturers think that basic laws of dressing don't exist for pregnant women and that we all want to wear horizontal stripes Sad
I'm 5'5'' and overweight. I also dont want to wear too long, extra-low rise jeans with a big bit of navy cotton creating an extra fat roll that I really don't need.
After several ego shattering try-on sessions I have finally found some relatively flattering bootcut jeans in Debenhams (Red herring - who knew?) Phew!

Rant over [big grin]

sisterT · 22/02/2011 15:04

or even Grin!

sisterT last time, I found clothes shopping the most depressing thing ever. I regularly went home nearly in tears because everything was either ugly, ill-fitting or expensive (often all three)

I'm very short (just under 5ft), so shopping is hard for me at the best of times. It's almost impossible during pregnancy.

I'm going to wear the maternity clothes I already have, and perhaps keep my eye out in the sales (I got a really nice pair of over the bump jeans from Mamas and Papas for a tenner.)

minicorrect · 22/02/2011 15:53

I am also really short and have problems buying trousers normally - but found some good jeans last time from Next - they're a bit long (but always are) but otherwise fit nicely and have the stretchy pockets bit rather than over the bump bit which I definitely prefer. Otherwise I totally agree on the maternity clothes options - very, very limited and rarely to my taste (and expensive for something you'll only wear a few months - or is that just me?!). My local H&M had some nice-ish bits though. Hardest thing was finding some plain, black maternity tights - ended up on Oxford St and even the big maternity department in Mothercare didn't have any - lots of other colours and even 15 denier and spotty ones but no plain black ones!! M&S came good in the end though (although my local branch didn't have any).

Sorry to those of you that have had not so enjoyable scans - I guess they forget how magical it is for us as they're just doing a job and undertaking a medical procedure!

Leilandri · 22/02/2011 19:36

I treated myself today to a mini-spree in New Look's maternity department, successfully returning home with 3 t-shirts, one with the all important "hands off the bump" message, and a pair of jeans that fit really well. All in for £35, so not too bad. (Also picked up some pj's for DS from Primark to alleviate some of the guilt in spending money on myself!!)

deebray · 22/02/2011 20:21

Can I come play in your thread? My EDD is 20th August so I'm 14.5 weeks :-)

MrsStevo · 22/02/2011 21:03

Please can someone feed me with some kind of re-assurance?

I've had a pain on and off since Saturday in my lower abdomen on the right hand side. It is like a stabby pain but not unbearable and it comes and goes. Deffo feels muscular / tissuey rather than boney. It was ALL day on Saturday, then Sunday and Monday evening and then from around 3ish today. No bleeding or anything like that. I'm 14 weeks today so I know I will be stretching and will get some discomfort from that, but I can't understand why I keep getting the same pain in the same place.

Naturally, with my tendency to be massively anxious, I'm expecting something bad to happen :( Next scan not until 7th March so got a while to wait now ...

Sorry to be self-centred (again). I am reading all your posts with great interest and hope you're all feeling really well x x

MrsStevo · 22/02/2011 21:05

Oh, and now I realise that i don't know my left from my right! It is on my LEFT hand side ... in case that makes any difference to your diagnoses!

KLou111 · 22/02/2011 21:17

Hi and welcome deebray. Congratulations on your pregnancy!! We have a list of when we are all due, which I'll post in a min, when I find the link!!
Hope you are feeling well and not been suffering too much!

MrsStevo I had a really bad crampy pain for a couple of hours on Friday night, and as soon as I went to bed and lay down it went. When I cough when lying down, I get a sharp pain in my side, and MW said was normal. However, if you're not 100% sure what is going on, I'd just call your MW, that's what they are there for :) Don't suffer!!

KLou111 · 22/02/2011 21:18

deebray List is here will add you on :)

KLou111 · 22/02/2011 21:21

me again, deebray is this your first? What is your age, and where are you from? Just so can add to the list :)

MrsChemist · 22/02/2011 22:17

MrsStevo, could it be your bowels? Mine hurt a bit because pregnancy gives me constipation (though I've mostly avoided it this time) and the pain is almost always in the same place.

JenniL1977 · 22/02/2011 23:33

MrsS- I've been getting the same thing on my right side- and it seems to be trapped wind. It's probably just our growing wombs moving intestines and stuff around to places they're not used to being in? But ring your mw. It's what she's there for :)

I'm dreading going looking for maternity clothes, but I love the fact H&M is getting so many recommendations- it's my favourite shop ever! I'm persevering with elastic bands round my buttons at the mo, although my staff and DH are killing themselves laughing about it... No empathy there then! :)

LadyGoneGaga · 23/02/2011 08:27

MrsS it sounds like round ligament pain. Where the ligaments that support your uterus get stretched. Yours will probably feel a bit worse because you are carrying twins. But normal and nothing to worry about.

I saw a kick from the outside on Monday! Grin Just a tiny twitch low down but felt it on the inside at the same time. Was lovely.

KTisPG · 23/02/2011 09:48

Hello debray we're due date twins Smile

MrsS I've been having stabbing pains too recently although not as frequently as all that. No more spotting so I'm assuming that its unrelated.

Brew anyone?

OP posts:
MorningsMadness · 23/02/2011 09:51

MrsS, I had the same thing and MW told me it was stretching - another twins thing apparently where it feels like a stitch but is just everything being wrenched (her words not mine!) apart to fit them in - charming!

I am desperately short on clothes to fit too so glad everyone else hates what's out there.

Great news about all the later stage ladies though, all doing so well.

Carnival · 23/02/2011 10:02

MrsS, I've had a stabby pain (on the right though) when I get up out of a chair or from lying position, it has taken my breath away on occasion. Went to doc, she had a feel of my tummy, she suspected it was constipation related Blush. Since upping the water and bran, it has subsided.

neverlookback · 23/02/2011 10:51

hi all, welcome debray im due 20th too with my 3rd, congratulations x

i've got cystitis at mo so on antibiotics for a week but its seems to of gone after only 1 day of tablets, hooray.
think my bump is finally starting to pop out, feel like its really late this time but i think its cos ive got a bit of left over belly from the first two for it to hide under, ughh!!

Im in turmoil already over will i need a phil n teds double or stick with my bugaboo and buggy board!! ds will be 2.9 when baba born. Does anyone know can the baby face u in the baby pod on a phil and teds if the toddler seat is not on? need to go and test drive one!

minicorrect · 23/02/2011 11:26

Quick question: felt nauseous all day yesterday (from waking) and put it down to returning MS but then last night I woke up about an hour after going to bed and just knew I was ill. Ran to bathroom and had nasty D&V for about half an hour. Stomach a bit crampy this morning and still a bit of D but no more V yet. Eating and drinking normally (well as normally as poss in pg) so have no idea what it is - didn't eat anything unusual and not crampy enough for food poisoning but had noro-virus in Nov and that was a 100 times worse than this - feel fine but just stomach upset and pretty sure baby's still moving about. Should I be worried or just sit it out and keep eating/drinking till it passes?
I seem to be getting sick all the time these days - I NEVER get ill!!!
Sorry for me post but can't find any conclusive advice online - lots of scare stories of course!

Teladi · 23/02/2011 11:33

minicorrect - when I first got my morning sickness at about 6wk I am pretty sure I had a D&V bug at the same time, it was going around my work at the time and was the only time I had D (though sadly not the last I would see of the V!) My midwife just said not to worry about it, baby couldn't get it, and unborn babies were pretty resilient anyway. She was right I guess as it was booting around without a problem at 12wk scan. I think we're more prone to picking up weird bugs during pregnancy due to what our immune systems are doing.

MrsS - I have also been getting weird pains, I think some of them are round ligament because I get the same pain when I sneeze, and I think some of them are constipation related.

Who says pregnancy is not an illness??

Nats81 · 23/02/2011 11:45

Hi All - can I join as well? I'm 29 due on 13th August and this is my first - had my 16 week appointment with the midwife today and heard the heartbeat which was fab :)

SelinaDoula · 23/02/2011 11:55

I have a date for my 20 week scan (18th March!)
Baby seems to be moving less the last couple of weeks. It was starting to kick loads especially at night but that seems to have stopped (trying not to worry lol) but I have heard the heartbeat on my doppler so not over worried.
Trying to eat less cakes and biscuits but not being terribly successful!

daisysair · 23/02/2011 13:00

neverlookback have you considered babywearing your newborn? In a moby/woven wrap (or other carrier where there's good knee-knee support and baby is facing you) I know we don't plan on buying a pushchair just yet (first baby, so not related to having 2 to cart)

MrsS yeah I get weird pains, am thinking it's growing pains/constipation and just go with it, but as others have said if you are worried check with your MW?

Annie456 · 23/02/2011 13:25

minicorrect I've had D for the past 2 days too, I've also picked up a horrible cold so assume I just picking up everything that's going around. Have you changed your diet recently? Im eating a lot more fruit since I've had my cold so that might be contributing to mine. I guess just keep an eye on it and go to your doctor if it continues for a couple of days - you need to stay hydrated and replace the salts / nutrients that your body is losing but not sure if normal "rehydration sachets" are appropriate in PG (my experience if my cold suggests probably not).
Hope you feel better soon.

And mrss sounds like round ligament pain but call your MW to put your mind at rest. I get a sharp pain when I'm blowing my nose and coughing and am putting it down to that.

LadyGoneGaga · 23/02/2011 13:29

Maybe the baby has just turned round so it is facing more inwards, Selina. Mine seems to go in phases too - lots of kicks today though which has been nice but other days I have to use the doppler to check little moneky is ok in there.

Neverlookback my DS is 2.9 now and we never use the pushchair these days so will not be bothering with a double especially as we don't walk that far. He will be 3.2 when baby comes so I am just going to use single buggy and buggy board. I also used a Moby wrap a lot so if DS gets tired I can pop him in the pushchair and wear the baby. We have a pramette which will convert back to being a pushchair quite easily.

Welcome Nats81 and Debray
