hurrah for jenny and baby samuel (and of course 40 with her new curtain poles - ohhh, who to be most excited for ?!

earlgrey I get shooting pains too - mw didn't seem worried (it's always associated with baby moving with me) something about the way she's pressing and burrowing down.

Great news from ledkr re: d. Hope she continues to improve. And, btw, cannot believe PIL haven't even phoned to check how you are Shock.

Have been reading the baby whisperer book and now feel completely confused about whether to feed on demand or not (hoping to bf). Any experienced ones out there any advice? Baby whisperer swears by feeding every 2 - 3 hrs from birth with an instant routine, but how would that work with cluster feeds before bed and I've read that studies show in the first few days you should encourage LO to bf as much as poss to help them get established... Hmm Confused

40Weeks · 07/02/2011 09:35

Hurrah for tadjen lovely name, glad it was quick for you, pay it forward please!!!

And hurrah for baby D doing well, any idea when home ledkr?? unbelievable pils.

Angels I would read the books and then wait til she is here. You don't need a routine from day 1, you need to rest and adjust and establish bfeeding. The good thing about baby Wisp is that she is more about encouraging a sequence of events than a structured timetable, but wait and see what sort of bubba you have first, she may be a chilled out bubba!

suzym1984 · 07/02/2011 09:35

jenny huge congratulations for baby Samuel, well done!

ledkr so glad you LO is improving and I really hope this continues. Angry at your PIL for not even phoning you!

angels as a complete novice first timer Im afraid I have no advice, but for what its worth I plan to feed on demand for at least the first few weeks (to get supply sorted and also while baby still has a tiny stomach) and then maybe look into starting a routine, cluster feed etc. But like I said...I am clueless so feel free to ignore!

Had a terrible night last night, about 2 hours sleep as had contraction type pains all night. This morning I also seem to have lost my "plug" Blush sorry for TMI. I realy hope this is the start of something!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 07/02/2011 09:52

Morning Smile,

Congratulations jenny, hope you're resting now after your powerful labour and that Samuel is doing well (great name too).

suzy definitely sounds promising to me, fingers crossed for you!

Still a bit tearful but happy here after manic weekend of visitors. I ended up taking Ben to the bedroom and getting OH to tell people to go away that I was tired. Seemed to work!

Have forgotten what sleep is..... Hmm

janedoe25 · 07/02/2011 10:04

Huge congrats Tadjenny on the arrival of litte Samuel! Hope u are both well.

Ledkr glad that Delilah is improving and hopefully be home soon.

Its my first day of maternity leave, have good intentions of cleaning but the lure of the couch is too strong!

girlafraid · 07/02/2011 10:33

Our baby girl arrived on Monday 31/01 at 12.55 weighing 7lb14

ELCS extremely civilised (if slightly surreal) and has already helped heal trauma of my son's birth via emcs. Recovering well!

Congratulations to tadjenny and girlafraid, so lovely that your DD's birth helped to heal the trauma of your DS's :)

Good luck suzy, let's hope we hear a birth announcement from you within the next few days Grin

angels, the Baby Whisperer knows sweet jeff all about BF, it's best to BF on demand especially in the early days to help establish supply. Is there a NCT or LLL group near you?

EauRouge · 07/02/2011 11:04

angels, you might want to have a read of this.

debka · 07/02/2011 11:29

ledkr glad things are looking up for you and little D, is Ella pleased to have her sister home?

Big congratulations to tadjenny and girlafraid, well done ladies, enjoy your babies! :)

Feels like deja vu here as it's Induction Attempt #2 tomorrow- been cleaning and tidying the house whilst DD is out with Granny on a Bus, much to her joy and delight!! Feel like I am o so ready to have this baby now, wonder if that will make a difference?

angels I followed the BW's loose routine and it worked for us, although for the first few weeks I did feed on demand. She does recommend cluster feeding in the evenings, and we did that successfully too. Having said that it never felt like a 'routine', as DD was always fed when hungry, put to bed when tired, etc. It just gave me an idea of what to expect, I suppose.

americanexpat · 07/02/2011 11:51

Congrats to tadjennyp and girlafraid as well as anyone else I missed!

40+3 today and feeling very much the same as usual. A bit of a backache in the evenings and in bed but otherwise just very tired.

roundthehouses · 07/02/2011 12:10

congrats tadjenny and girlafraid! good luck with induction tomorrow debka! hope it all goes very smoothly this time.

I always fed on demand with ds but I just thought that was the only way to do it so didn´t make a conscious decision! As it was ds had tongue tie and did lose some weight at first and bfing was a bit of a battle for a while so I´m not sure there would have been any alternative, I had to get the kid fed one way or another and routine wasn´t even on my mind. And also routines have never figured too highly with us anyway - ds has only really slept all night in his own bed for about 6 months so I´m the last one anyone should look to for advice on this topic! Wink

janedoe25 · 07/02/2011 12:32

Congrats girlafraid!

Good luck for round 2 tomorrow debka hoping you have a speedy delivery!

wigglesrock · 07/02/2011 12:52

Congratulations girlafraid

Well done tadjennyp, Beautiful names, both were on my boy shortlist!! Take care x

suzym fingers crossed Grin

Ledkr terrific news, nothing more beautiful than a baby eyes. Pils are wankers out of order, don't even waste a moments energy on them now, no negative thoughts.

Debka what is it with small children at buses, mine treat them with the same excitement I treat a plane journey!!! Good luck for tomorrow.

JustOneMorePlease · 07/02/2011 13:28

Welcome the new babies and best of luck debka .

Glad baby D is doing well ledkr

All good here, two weeks to go and getting very sick of the school run interrogation every morning. Is it not bloody obvious that I haven't had babe yet. Could be another four weeks yet arrrrrrrr.

Sad news today that our elderly neighbour passed away last night, he was lovely and so excited about this baby. He was convinced that it was going to come on 17th which was to be his 85th birthday. Our boys are going to be sad as he used to take them to his allotment with him. Sad would it be strange if it does arrive on the 17th.

slowangels1 · 07/02/2011 13:50

eaurouge thanks for the link and others for their comments on feeding on demand. I think my plan was to bf on demand at the very beginning and hopefully then establish a routine in time but reading the book made me a bit Shock that this might do myself harm with settling etc baby. I am the sort of person who loves a good routine but can't see how I can get one straight away with a newborn Hmm

Fab news girlafraid - let's get the babies rolling in now Wink

Good luck tomorrow debka . Hope things are quicker and easier this time.

justonemore sorry to hear about your neighbour :(

Deliaskis · 07/02/2011 14:14

Afternoon ladies, not been on here all weekend so lots to catch up on!

Congrats girlafraid and tadjennyp
Good luck for tomorrow's second attempt Debka
Fingers crossed things are moving for you suzy

Just got today and tomorrow at work then I'm fiiiiiiiiinnnnnniiiiiiiiissshhed! Can't wait, although I'm sure I will be bored after about 2 days as will be sat at home with nothing to do except wait for probably stubborn baby to arrive.

I reeeeeeeeeally want some kind of sign that things might be ready to get moving, but for me...nada. I know I'm not due for another 12 days but I'm already getting impatient. Slightly horrified that it could be well over 3 weeks if I go over and end up being induced.

On the upside my SPD has suddenly improved massively, I just walked into town at lunchtime (8 minute walk) which I just wouldn't have contemplated a week ago, so not sure why that is, but I'm happy about it. People have said it might mean baby has started to engage, as head helps to give a bit of structure to pelvis, but equally it could be completely unrelated, so who knows!

angels like you I'm going to aim for some kind of routine but don't see how this can be done in the first couple of weeks - we're all (as in me, DH and baby) going to be new at this so there's bound to be a settling in period.

Anyway, stay happy and healthy ladies, and may those babies keep popping!

D

slowangels1 · 07/02/2011 14:43

wooohooo - can I just share in my excitement that I've had my new swab result back for GBS (tested positive in 2nd trimester) and it was negative Grin Grin . I'm hoping this means I won't need antibiotics during labour (which give me a horrible dicky tummy). Am bouncing on my ball in hopeful delight Grin

Deliaskis · 07/02/2011 15:09

angels that's great news! Really pleased for you as I know it was one of those 'yet another thing' to worry about pre-labour. Congrats on being strep free!

Dx

EauRouge · 07/02/2011 15:10

That's great news! Enjoy your bouncing Grin

Re: baby books and routines, I would wait a few weeks at least until you've established BF and rested up and recovered from the birth. And if the routine in the book doesn't work then always remember it's the book's fault, not yours! Tracey Hogg/GF/whoever has not met you or your baby so they don't know what's best for you. But a lot of baby books are good for getting ideas, just ignore the bits you don't like (this goes for all the unsolicited advice you get from mums at playgroup, little old ladies in the post office etc etc)

worrymummy · 07/02/2011 15:14

Congratulations to all those with their gorgeous babies!
Ledkr I am sorry you have been having a stressful time, hope and am sure that Delilah will continue to improve and that you can get some rest and nourishment too. Lovely name by the way xxxx
Clememtine Lyra Rose (ok it is a bit of a mouthful!) was born on Saturday night at home! Only a week late which is good for me!
Good birthing vibes to everyone still waiting xxx

PDR · 07/02/2011 15:24

Congratulations to everyone who has had their baby!

Nothing happening here - baby moving loads and lots of sharp cervix pains.

New Tesco's opened today - highlight of the week in our small town. We dutifully went and looked about - got our free bags for life and bought a few random things we don't need LOL Grin Such saddos.

DH is on AL now for 2 weeks followed by paternity leave for 2 weeks. I had not realised it started today as had not read the memo properly and DH seems to trust whatever is written in my diary so turned up for work at 6am as per his normal schedule Grin Needless to say he was laughed at big time and will be the joke of the company for many weeks to come Wink That will teach him for relying on me for everything!

worrymummy · 07/02/2011 15:28

BTW found what seems to be a really lovely book - Gentle First Year by Gowri Motha. Lots of advice for taking care of baby and you.

EauRouge · 07/02/2011 15:38

Congrats worrymummy! Brilliant that the babies are coming thick and fast now Grin Clementine is a lovely name.
