superpenguin · 25/02/2011 09:21

hello and congratulations to sam ! :)
another girl!!! wow.
hope you are doing well.

I'm 39 weeks today! nothing to report.

mendipgirl · 25/02/2011 10:34

Congratulations sam. It's lovely to hear of all the arrivals! All girls too, who is going to have the first boy?
Quick update on us: the cs went really well, although I went into theatre and was just about to have the spinal when they rushed an emergency in so they handed me my drip and we made a quick exit. When it actually happened it was fab. Everyone was really nice, had our music on, one of the nurses was taking photos for us. Got skin to skin with dd2 straight away and then started feeding in recovery. We came out on weds and it is lovely to be home. Dd1 is I bit jealous but we are trying to give her lots of attention as well. So glad dh is here for another week. Not looking forward to him going back to work! The only downside of the cs is not being able to carry dd1 which she doesn't understand or like. Anyway hope you are all okay and loving hearing about all the births! And finally her name is- Flora Niamh. She looks like she might be strawberry blond like me and she is gorgeous. Love to you all. X

Muser · 25/02/2011 11:12

I need to do a major catch up on this thread. I see congratulations are due to Sam, mendip and AfterIVF. And jeffily but I think I already did that.

Birth story - skip if you want to.

My waters broke on the Monday night, about 10.30pm as I got out of the bath. I was soaking through maternity pads very quickly! Went to the birth centre and they confirmed it was waters, told me I had 48 hours to go into labour naturally or I'd be induced. I went home and tried to sleep.

Contractions started about 1.30am. I put my natal hypnotherapy cd on and breathed through them and slept in-between. They had got stronger by the morning and I put my TENS machine on, which helped a lot.

Called the birth centre at 8am as it was feeling quite intense but they told me it sounded too early to come in. Kept on with the TENS, the breathing, had a shower. I spent quite a lot of time leaning over my bed, the chair, or my body pillow. Sometimes with a blanket over my head to hide away!

At 12.30 I went in to the birth centre thinking i'd be sent home but really needing to know where I was. Examined and was nowhere near being dilated. Told to go home, have lunch, go for a walk and get some sleep. Definite undertones of "you have hours and hours to go". Was also told baby was in-between back to back and proper position, which was why my contractions felt so intense. Was given tips on how to help the baby turn.

Couldn't eat the pizza DH ordered so tried to lie down instead. Contractions started getting much more intense but I was managing with the hypnotherapy and TENS. Then I started pushing. Which I was sure shouldn't be happening yet. Went to the loo and had a massive contraction and again the pushing. Got up and saw bright red blood. DH came to look too. We decided it was time to call the birth centre again.

Birth centre said the bleed needed to be checked out on the labour ward, they had concerns about the placenta. So off we go to the labour ward, at 3.30pm.

At the labour ward I swap my TENS for gas and air. I loved the gas and air. Get examined and told I'm now 6 cm dilated. I get told not to push a lot but I don't know how to not push as my body has just taken over.

Examined by midwives and docs, much debate about what the bleed is. They eventually decide it's not serious. Then they wonder what to do with me. Someone decides to examine me again and I am now fully dilated. Midwife explains I have basically pushed my cervix away, and this has probably caused the bleeding.

Now I'm fully dilated they decide to let me have the baby. I get to pushing properly, the docs leave with one saying she'll be back in a few hours to see how I'm doing.

Now I'm free to push I feel much calmer and work on getting this done. In between contractions my DH gives me apple juice to drink and keeps me cool with a damp flannel. It is unbelievably hard work, but I never feel the pain is too much. I am off my face on gas and air though!

Midwife and DH start getting very excited as they can see the head. This next bit was the hardest thing I've ever done. Midwife tells me to stop with the g&a and concentrate on pushing. I push, and push, and just as I feel there's no way this baby is coming out she's suddenly being bundled onto my chest.

It is 5.32pm. 2 hours after being admitted, 5 hours since I was told I was nowhere near having a baby. I am stunned but absolutely exhilarated as I hold my little girl. It is the most amazing thing that I can't even describe.

So that's my story. Fast and furious! Now we're 10 days on and I can't believe it. She's perfect. It's been very hard and there have been times where I've sat and sobbed from lack of sleep. But every day gets better. And inl

Muser · 25/02/2011 11:16

Oops, posted too soon. Last bit should have said "I love her so much".

Muser · 25/02/2011 11:27

Also should have said, I was VERY shouty during contractions at the hospital. Oh my. It's just as well the gas and air muffles you quite a bit. I did manage to shut up when delivering the head. The midwife told me to concentrate and I was worried if I didn't do it quickly there might be forceps or something. God it was hard though.

Larty74 · 25/02/2011 11:33

Good story Muser thanks for sharing and nice to hear from you - and congrats again!

Has she got a name?

Muser · 25/02/2011 12:49

She has but I feel a bit weird posting it when I wouldn't post my real name.

sam26oscar · 25/02/2011 13:01

ahh big congrats muser orry about typo still in hospital on crappy t.v keyboard!! am in soo much pain!! forgot how much it hurt after! seem to have lots of time as cassie sleeps loads:) dh and ds on way but am reading but not posting as it tskes ages!!

lots of love to you all xx

spaceal · 25/02/2011 13:02

Congratulations sam, and thanks for the stories, mendip and muser - they really do help to demystify the whole thing for those of us going through it for the first time.

Still nothing more than BHs here - she's only got six days to arrive of her own accord before the induction...

Hope all are doing OK and look forward to the next arrival.

GeekLove · 25/02/2011 13:42

Congratulations muser! I am glad that it went well and that the bleed wasn't serious. Hope you are all doing well!

TooImmature2BMum · 25/02/2011 13:43

Wow, heaps has happened since I last posted!

Congratulations Sam! Well done!

Lovely to hear your updates, Muser and Mendip. Hope everything is continuing well.

Still nothing to report here - 39+1, but beyond an increase in my SPD, nothing is happening. I tried the hot curry thing on Wednesday night (slightly by accident - we were out for dinner at a Thai restaurant and I ordered a medium curry, but my starter was blow-your-mouth-off hot!) and I did wake up on Thursday with crampy backache and got excited, but after a hot shower it was gone again. Oh well.

KPidgeon · 25/02/2011 14:08

Thanks for such a detailed birth story Muser- it really helps to hear other peoples experiences. Congratulations again. I'm so impatient now but still over 4 weeks to go until due date.

Yesterday afternoon and evening I felt really tight and crampy at the bottom of my uterus/stomach.. thought it was trapped wind Blush but it lasted ages- does it sound like it might be braxton hicks to those of you who've had it? I had lentils for lunch so it may well have been wind!

Hope everyone else is hanging in there.

Lozario · 25/02/2011 14:39

Hey all, great to read the birth story Muser, that's amazing going, especially for your first that it was so quick!! My DS1 was 2 days of contractions and toing and froing! Mad how they have all been girls so far. I don't mind either way but am convinced I'm having a girl this time in the same way I was sure DS1 would be a boy. Just under 4 weeks to go until due date and skeleton feels like it might give way under the weight of this basketball bump though!!

Am going for an evening spa this eve with a couple of friends for someone's 30th - can't wait, DH working from home today so I can leave at 4 to get there in time. (I say working from home - he's currently sitting on my birthing ball playing Angry Birds on the iphone...)

KPidgeon I have BH all the time, it's like all the muscles over your bump go very hard for up to a minute or so and then it relaxes again. I'd call it a tightening rather than painful. Weird isn't it!

sam lucky you that you had a sleeper! Really hope my next one is a lover of sleep!!

My midwife says sex is the best way to get into labour.... but who can be bothered with that!!!

EvianBaby · 25/02/2011 17:24

Hi everyone!

Mendip - lovely birth story - that's how a C Section should be! I'm hoping mine is like that if my VBaC doesn't happen! I see you decided on Flora after all - lovely! It's still very much on my short short list!

Muser - Wow, great story too! It sounds like you were in control the whole time, i'm pleased it went so well.

I'm 38+1 today, seeing the consultant again a week on Monday. Basically I think i have until 41 weeks to go into labour naturally and attempt a VBaC otherwise they'll book me in for a C Section. I have NO idea at the moment which way things will go. I went 8 days over with DS so I could guess but trying to stay open minded!

Sending labour vibes to us all Smile

Larty74 · 25/02/2011 17:59

Oh dear - I must be desperate for things to do around here. Today I scraped all the limescale off every tap in the house! Hmm what a loser! It was really satisfying tho.

Besides waiting, what's everyone up to this weekend? For us it's the village panto on Sat eve -I'm hoping to laugh so much it will send me into labour! Tonight and rest of weekend will be enjoying last few days alone w/ DH as parents arrive Tues. am really looking forward to having them.

ckny1 · 25/02/2011 19:09

Ooh, Larty, that actually sounds like fun, what did you use to help you de-scale? :)

We're 38 weeks today, though CS is scheduled sooner. Went to Harrods today and will go again tomorrow as I'm hoping to (window) shop my way into labour and see if they'll let me in the store again if my waters break on their shiny faux marble floors! Shock

Wishing everyone a fun weekend, and more lovely girls (and some boys!)

jeffily · 25/02/2011 20:41

Huge congrats to you sam, I love the name too, gorgeous! And to you afterivf, lovely news.

How funny that we are such a female heavy bunch so far?! Wonder when we'll have our first boy arrival?!

mendip and muser your birth stories had me in tears- damn these hormones!

Have just been debating as to whether I should watch an episode of Masterchef or go to bed-think I've decided that sleep wins over TV, so am off to bed shortly. Hang on in there ladies. It's all so worth while when you get the little un in your arms. And I had forgotten about wind/just how tired you can be/ endless nappies at night/ suddenly being bottom of the priority list, so enjoy these last few days/weeks. Easy advise for me to give from this side of the birth I know. But do!

Oh, wanted to properly post and catch up but the littlest member of the family is suffering from wind today and so every time I put her down to type two handed she starts complaining. Off to try every trick in the book to get a mini person to burp!

Love to all

StrangewaysHereICome · 25/02/2011 20:48

Hello all - ooooh scary to be top of the list - eek!

Lovely birth story Muser sounds like you coped amazingly well. I am a big fan of gas and air too!! My first labour was similar with lots of contractions to be told i wasn't dilated at all, then 5 hours later ready to push!

niamh so pleased bubs has turned for you Smile

Me23 so pleased too you have sorted out your homebirth plans. I had trouble last time when my hb dipped by .1 below the cut off level (10.6 was cut off and I was 10.5!) for a homebirth. I really had to to fight my corner, and in the end they agreed but not after writing all over my notes that I was going against medical advice Hmm. That was the community midwives, the consultant was completely happy with my choice!

coral I had a terrible night last night, with bad rib pain on both sides, can't have had more than 2 hours sleep. I got through the day and now it's the weekend hopefully I can get some more rest. Not too much longer I hope!

Sam I hope the pain eases soon, bet you can't wait to get home - congrats again.

Jammie hope you feel better soon, if I were you I would listen to your body - Oxford can be a nightmare at the weekend. I feel I don't want to be far from home either. I am sure your friend will understand.

Take care all, hope there is more baby news this weekend Smile. Who will have the first boy??

Honeymoonmummy · 25/02/2011 22:05

Congratulations Mendip and Muser!

Nothing to report here, I'm now 37+2, nesting like mad but no twinges, baby still pretty active in there.

My BP has started to go up a bit so am keeping an eye on it with a home monitor (had high BP in first labour) and am on weekly checks.

Hattie05 · 25/02/2011 22:07

Hi all

Congrats to Sam!

Me23 - so happy for you to get you home birth now! without even needing the letter! perfect.

Well i've had dramas, as dd2 has come out in chicken pox! which means somewhere over the next fortnight dd3 will also and i'm due in a week! Shock. Really don't need to be nursing spots as well as a newborn. I have checked with hospital and the fact i've had cpox means the baby shouldn't get it, but all slightly worrying. all this time i've been desperate to meet him and now want him to hang on in there a bit longer till we've finished nursing dd2 and dd3 in the middle of the night!

Plus i've come down with a horrible cold giving me aches and shakes. So don't feel ready to be pushing a baby out now Sad.

Off to get some sleep now,

take care all,

1Catherine1 · 26/02/2011 00:07

Oh dear Hattie - What terrible timing. I hope baby does stay put until cpox is out of the household and your cold is gone- you really don't need that worry and strain on top of caring for a newborn. Would it be impossible for you to get out of the house for a few days to lower your risk of getting it? You DDs probably wouldn't understand but I freak out when kids walk into my classroom with a cold, even to the extent of telling them to sit in the corner away from me and open the windows because I don't want their germs. Hmm Ofc that's not quite the same as doing it to your own children.

Plans for the weekend include trying to finish my knitted blanket for baby's crib. I have to finish it before going back to work on Monday otherwise it's just not going to get done. OH working all weekend too so it's just me and the cats at home anyway. Also have a lot of school work to do but tbh I just don't feel like doing it - my mind is already on maternity leave which is unfortunate since I have 2 weeks left of teaching to do.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 26/02/2011 09:42

Morning all

Very very uncomfy now. I cant even get in a car without every bump feeling like the LO is jiggling around. I am trying to enjoy the movements since this is likely last baby and I will never experience these sensations again, but it is getting increasingly difficult since it feel like my whole uterus is bruised and baby keeps headbutting/kicking the bruised parts.

Have to say am very happy for half term to be over, it has been a struggle this time. Have been low on cash and havent really felt like venturing too far in my current hippo state, will be pleased to have a bit of routine back.

I have been trying all the "natural" induction methods, baths, curries and the other one Wink but nothing. He will make an appearance when he is ready I guess.

I am 39 weeks on Monday so prob shouldnt be expecting anything anyway.

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 26/02/2011 18:48

Hi all.

Haven't posted in a while as just nothing to report! Am bored of being pregnant - am 39 weeks today and have had no signs of anything happening at all. Am too uncomfortable to sleep for more than a couple of a hours at a time so I'm shattered but have at least moved flat and it now looks like DH will be able to get back so I'm ready as soon as LO is!

Have loved the birth stories - brought tears to my eyes - thank you - they are really inspiring. Just can't wait for my own! (although still dreading it really!).

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Xx

KPidgeon · 26/02/2011 19:02

Oh Hattie sorry to hear about your DD having chicken pox. Hope your other daughter either avoids it or gets it quickly and they both recover quickly. Not what you need. I know for me expecting my first I have a lot of respect for you ladies out there who already have kids and have gone through pregnancy whilst being a mum to one or two others already- hard work!

Had our first antenatal class with the NHS this morning. Due in 4 weeks so I hope I make it through all 4 classes! Was nice meeting other mums in RL!

Also viewed a lovely little cottage near East Grinstead and we are going to go ahead and rent it- so that is a huge weight of our minds. As soon as baby is born we will be moving to a quiet detached cottage in a little rural village- so different from where we are! I cannot wait!! So excited.

Poor husband had to sleep on the floor last night- what with his restless leg kicking the bed and the baby pummeling me from the inside I just needed more space to thrash about. He is good, bless him.

Hope you all have restful Sundays- good luck with your blanket Catherine. I hope these next two weeks go quickly for you.

niamh29 · 26/02/2011 19:54

Evianbaby: I'm in the same boat as you, hoping to go in labour myself before 41 weeks or else will have a cs.

Last night was a strange one, started getting pains around 8:30pm, just braxton hicks and I didnt think much of it but it got uncomfortable enough that I needed to get up and walk around and the pains eased when I was up and about. I went to bed at 10:30 but couldn't sleep and ended up getting up again, Ive never had BH that long but it wasn't turning into contractions but I also had some pressure and kept thinking I needed to go to the loo. I eventually got to sleep but was awake again between 2 and 3 with it, all pains were gone by this morning but I felt achy. Never had anything like that before and hopefully it means that baby won't be too much longer.
